Big Favorite! M.Z. Potts’ (Meredith Potts) fourth book in her Southern Midlife Treasure Trove Mystery series is quite an engaging page-turner with many intense emotions. Although the story has a third-person narrative, there are several stories being told: Hannah and Ryan, Daphne and her interview subject, Kelly and Eric. Each chapter is titled with a location to indicate whose story is the focus. Journalistic integrity is raised pitting reporter instincts vs. promises made. Mental health issues are quite a hot-button topic nowadays, and Meredith provided a frank discussion and then ramped it up with a murder, a hostage, and another stand off. Good luck is had by most, not all, and a few personal issues need a fifth book. Definitely a “big” contender for Best of 2022!
Still recovering from the hostage situation at the gas station, Hannah Huntsford learns that her boss, Ryan, has suffered a heart attack. Hannah's boyfriend, Tyler, accompanies her to the hospital to wait with Ryan's sister, Gladys. Sheila Riverton, another survivor of the gas station hostage situation is preparing for an interview with Daphne, a reporter with the local TV station. Unfortunately, Sheila receives a last-minute call to cancel her appointment with her therapist.
To make matters worse, her therapist is having issues with a maniacal patient who claims to love her and refuses to take no for an answer. When the patient returns and creates a hostage situation, Tyler is called in to handle the crisis.
Will Ryan recover from his heart attack? Can Hannah handle the pressure of extended waiting? Will the situation with the therapist turn deadly? Or can Tyler eliminate the crisis?
M.Z. Potts has another mystery thriller with her latest Tiny House Mystery. This story is more intense than earlier stories, but definitely keeps the reader engaged from start to finish!! I found it extremely difficult to put this book down until I had finished reading it.
This book needs to come with a much needed trigger warning. Hannah's boss suffers a heart attack. Her boyfriend takes her to the hospital to sit and wait to see if he will be okay. While this is going on the other hostage from the gas station is being interviewed by Hannah's best friend/reporter after just being told that her therapist can't see her that day. The therapist is having troubles of her own. She runs her therapy out of an office at her home; this has never been a problem until now. She has a client that lost his mother to cancer and has become infatuated with her. She plans to tell him that she can no longer help him and to refer him to a new therapist. He is already unstable (worse than she knows); he comes back to her home while she is gone to cause harm to her husband. She walks in on the scene. Things escalate quickly. While at the hospital Hannah's boyfriend Tyler gets a call to come into work. She can tell by the look on his face that it isn't good. She stays at the hospital to wait to find out about her boss while Tyler tries to help the therapist.
The connections in the book are well written; the trauma is heart breaking.
4.5 Star review Tiny House, Big Heartache (Southern Midlife Treasure Trove Cozy Mystery #4) by M Z Potts & Meredith Potts
Audio Review:
This was an entertaining addition to the series. I found the story captivating and although it is not a long book to listen to, I was drawn into the story that MS. Potts wove. Tiny House, Big Heartache was a good cozy mystery with multiple stories within.
Hannah Huntsforfd and Sheila Riverton are both struggling on a number of fronts both still reeling from the hostage situation they were recently in. Hannah’s boss and mentor has suffered a heart attached and his survival is in question and then she learns that her detective boyfriend Tyler O’Connor is now involved in a dangerous standoff with a man who is suffering from mental health issues. There is a lot going on in this story but each chapter is clearly marked so there was no possibility of being confused. This is a well written story that kept my attention. Narrator Stephanie Quinn did a good job, and I enjoyed her performance.
Hannah and Daphne are still dealing with having been through the gas station robbery and their feelings as well as their lives moving forward.
Hannah gets a call that her boss and friend is in serios condition after a heart attack at the hospital. She rushes to the hospital with her boyfriend Tyler to be there with his sister Grace. While she’s waiting, Daphne is planning to interview another one of the hostages, Sheila. This woman is the person who was working at the gas station when the robbery occurred. She’s been seeing a therapist to manage what occurred. On the day of the interview, her therapist calls to cancel the appointment. It seems that there is something traumatic occurring in the therapist’s life during this period of time as well.
This was an interesting story of how Hannah, Daphne and Sheila lives still are intersecting as they attempt to move forward with their lives.
Tiny House, Big Heartache by MZ Potts is the 4th book in a series. It continues with our beloved main character Hannah, but she did not seem to be the focus of this book. I did not enjoy this one as much as the first three. I was looking to hear more about Hannah, her boyfriend Tyler and their tiny houses. Instead, there was a shocking murder and horrifying kidnapping attempt. Too heavy and depressing for a lighthearted cozy. It was a great story, just not what I was expecting out of book 4 of this endearing cozy series. This was a very intense read focusing on mental health. With the heart attack of Hannah’s boss as a side story, that just made this whole book very heavy and depressing. Sorry but that’s not what I chose cozies for. I hope book 5 (which I will read) will go back to the lighthearted antics of Hannah and her friends.
Hannah and Sheila are still suffering the after-effects of the gas station robbery. Daphne may not have been one of the victims but almost losing Hannah has her rethinking her life goals. Each of the women has been impacted and so have their relationships. Moving on may mean therapy, or just being able to stop at the gas station to buy a lottery ticket.
This is a good series! This book has a more serious tone than the previous ones but it is still a good read. It is well-written and deals with the aftermath of danger and trauma in a realistic way. I received a review copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
Tiny House, Big Heartache (Southern Midlife Treasure Trove Cozy Mystery #4) was a great read by M.Z. Potts. Hannah has a new emergency that turns her life upside down. Her private investigator boss has a heart attack. The doctors try and save his life, while Hannah's detective boyfriend is called to diffuse a dangerous confrontation between a psychiatric patient who stormed his therapist's home. He had sinister plans for her. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
Hannah is still recovering from her injuries but things haven’t slowdown.
Her private investigator boss has a heart attack and her boyfriend detective finds himself in the middle of a hostage situation when a psychiatric patient storms into the psychiatric with sinister ideas.
Can things get any worse as Hannah might lose her boyfriend and her boss on the same night?
This one is sure to have you reaching for the tissues--so much happens that is really not good. Heart attack--a psychiatric patient kills his therapist's husband and then keeps threatening her. All is well at the end--but get ready to gulp a couple of times! I have read many books by this author under her other name (Meredith Potts) and I loved all of them. The author wrote a note at the end which explains her mindset with this one--I hope she gets into a happier place soon!!
This was another wonderful story. Each story brings more attention grabbing characters too! Without giving anything away just let me say it's great reading!!
Now, after Hannah and Sheila were held at gunpoint, they tried to move forward with their lives. You have suspense, in this fast paced cozy. This is another great book Meredith has written. I recommend this book.
Hannah’s life seems to be upside down right now. Her boss has a heart attack , and a few other things. How much more could go wrong. Love this story. As always well written.
While Hannah is at the Hospital with Her boss, Daphne does a follow up interview with Stephanie the gas station attendant from book three, There is a major story brewing up at the same time , pulse pounding storyline .
Next instalment in Hannah Huntsford's series, a kind of follow up to the last one. Not quite as witty with more human interest and survivorship after a terrible experience. I liked seeing a lot of this story through Daphne's eyes as she struggles with what to report and keeping people's feelings in consideration. My heart went out to the survivors of this story and the last as we interacted with them. I look forward to the next in this series.
I received an ARC, and this is my unsolicited review.
I had a chance to listen to this story on audiobook. Stephanie Quinn was delightful once again as she brought these characters to life in my mind. I enjoyed listening to her vocal changes for each person.
With more than 130 reads from author Meredith Potts/KM Morgan/Amelia Morgan, I welcomed the chance to read Tiny House, Big Heartache (Southern Midlife Treasure Trove Cozy Mystery Book 4). So when I got the chance to re-read/listen to the Audible edition I again jumped at it. 2-hours 41-minutes/141 pages, well-written & enjoyable. not just another cute, clean cozy mystery she's continuing to lay the groundwork for perhaps her best character & series to date. I do regret drifting away from the tiny house premise that started this series. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
