She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances!
This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Certainly worth your time!!The main characters are caught up with issues that many of us deal with in our lives, guilt over circumstances beyond our control. Are we worthy of forgiveness? Forgiveness is freely given by the Lord, but can we forgive ourselves? Some romance and a lot of twists and turns make this book a most enjoyable read!

Book two in the Northern Intrigue Series, this book focuses on a completely new character, Keely, and a character that was introduced almost in passing in the last book, Burke. While a few characters like Veda, Harlan and the Weavers had a role in this second book, Rod and Wendy played a very minor role here. This second book had a very different feel than the first book. It didn't have the severe winter weather as the first book, and the descriptiveness about the small town wasn't as in depth as in the first book. I didn't feel like I was drawn into this small town buried in snow. The new characters that were introduced did also not seem as well developed. I felt like a lot of the story focused on Burkes physical attraction and desire for Keely, to the point it made me dislike Burke. Even the mystery of who the arsonist seemed to take a backseat to Burkes overwhelming desire to "touch" some part of Keely every time they were together. I found myself growing weary of how often he thought about wanting to reach out and touch her.
I really loved the first book so much, that I'll move on to the third book at some point, in hopes it is written in a similar style as the first book.

Keely Turner is the daughter of the owner of the mill in Steadfast. She is the high school principal. She is also the one in charge of the Family Closet Ministry to those in need in her town. Her younger brother Grady is always in trouble it seems for breaking first one rule or another. He flaunts the fact that he is never caught and/or made to be responsible for his transgressions.
Burke Sloan is the new deputy in town. He is the guardian of his nephew Nick for one year while he finishes high school. Nick is having trouble adjusting to the fact his father has divorced his mother and gone across the country with another woman. He is feeling abandoned and acting out his frustrations. Burke also is finally dealing with the fact that when his wife died he cut himself off from the rest of his family because her death left him feeling like he had failed her.
His first day on the job Burke meets the high school principal who is a complete surprise to him. She is not a middle-aged lady with a bun, an attitude, and orthopedic shoes. She is young, attractive, and very compassionate. She is determined to get to the bottom of the pranks being perpetrated at the school. The problem with that is that her brother, who has been kicked out of yet another boarding school, and Burke’s nephew are the prime candidates for all the mischief and trouble going on at the school.
Burke and Keely find themselves thrown together more and more as the trouble escalates at the school. Both insist that their relationship remain professional even though both of them are coming to realize that there is definitely an attraction between them.
The sparks fly as the town becomes divided as the trouble increases and the threats move into the community at large. Add all the pressures of dealing with the cast of characters the often occupy a small town and the scene is set for some dramatic revelations.
I recommend this book for those looking for a book with intrigue, mystery and of course the sweet romance that you can expect to find in Lyn Cote’s work.

Keely is the principal at the local high school. When school starts, she has two students who seem to enjoy causing trouble. Her brother is one of them and she wonders why her father won't do something to control him. But it seems her father is wanting her to be the one to control Grady. The other troubled student is Nick, nephew to the new deputy in town.
Keely finds herself attracted to Burke from the first time he comes to her rescue. And it seems there are those who are trying to play matchmaker. But when Grady and Nick seem to be suspects behind everything going on around town, it causes a strain between Burke and Keely. But at the same time, Burke finds himself attracted to Keely so when they are thrown together, he enjoys the time with her. Things escalate and he can't figure out wether the incidents are being caused by one person or if there is a copycat. He helps Keely with a few projects, things on her new home, things at the local thrift store, and things at school. The whole county seems to be against Keely because she comes from a rich family. Its rumored that the only reason she is the principal is because her father bought the job for her. Burke hates hearing comments that are made toward her about her money and her family.
There's also a side story about a baby that showed up about 6 months earlier and they finally solve the case of the unknown baby and then deal with the mother and an awkward situation.
The story was well written and interesting. It was crazy trying to figure out who was causing so much havoc. And watching Burke and Keely come to a point where they could accept each other was interesting.

Autumn Shadows is the second book in the Northern Intrigue series. I read the first book, Winter’s Secret, a few years ago and decided it was time to get back to reading the rest of the series. This series is set in a small, Wisconsin town and is peopled with interesting characters. Each story includes a romance, mystery and suspense, and an opportunity to get involved in the life of a small town.
Autumn Shadows focuses on high school principal, Keely Turner, and pranks that began at her school, which seem to be escalating and becoming more dangerous. Deputy Burke Sloan, who is new to town, is assigned to the high school to determine the source of the pranks and to offer protection to the students and specifically to Ms. Turner.
The story is entertaining and keeps the reader guessing as to who the miscreant or miscreants might be. There are also many relationship problems which add depth to the story, and an excellent spiritual thread that is woven throughout the novel. The romance that begins to develop between Keely and Burke has many obstacles to overcome in order to arrive at a satisfying ending.
I recommend this novel to those who enjoy romantic suspense in Christian fiction.

Another book I really didn't want to put down. Keely Turner is the daughter of a very wealthy man in town, so everyone says he bought her the job of principal at the high school so that she could make sure her brother made it through high school. Keely isn't ready to just pass her brother on any of the various stunts he pulls around the high school and the local sherrif isn't happy becaue there are fires cropping around town, he and his nephew just moved into town, everyone wants to point the finger at his nephew and her brother. She and Burke Sloan end up being thrown together so often they can't deny the sparks flying between them. This book is really a good read....I really liked it.

This was my first inspirational romantic suspense book. I enjoy romantic suspense because I like a good mystery to be solved while the leads are falling in love. Autumn's Shadow provides two likeable leads in small town northern Wisconsin with all its quirks and blessings. Lyn Cote clearly captures the nature of a small, rural town, but adds the touches specific to Wisconsin.
The mystery involves who is vandalizing local buildings, and it's engrossing throughout the book. The balance of romance to suspense is just right, and the suspense keeps the reader intrigued as much as the love developing between the emotionally shut-down deputy and the all-too-giving school principal. My only quibble is that the outcome of the mystery is what I suspected from the beginning. While there are many options for whodunit here, and the author deftly makes us consider all these possibilities along with the two leads, I would have liked something just a bit more unexpected for the "big reveal."
This book is part of a series, but one can read it as a stand-alone and be thoroughly satisfied.

Autumn's Shadow is a christian romance between principal Keely Turner and Wisconsin Deputy Burke Sloan. After principal Turner is threatened with multiple threats, even gunshots through her window and eventually her kidnapping. Naturally Sloan acts as Turner's protector throughout the book as he tries to solve this chain of pranks. Both doubt their love for another as they feel the Lord has not granted them his blessing, using their careers as an excuse to dismiss one another, but also to hover.
I did not necessarily dislike the book, but it was very predictable. The pranks and the kidnapping as the climax made the book flow in a way to where it just became boring. I knew that Sloan would realize his love for her and his need for action right after she was kidnapped. And once returning Keely, it was easy for the Deputy to throw him in jail. Him being a blast from the past, Keely's ex-boyfriend of 5 years. Like I said, very predictable. This book was surprising a let down, considering I loved her book in this same series "Summer's End".

This was a kindle book so it took me a while, because I still love the real books! That said, I was amazed how many glaring mistakes there were in the text--misspelled words, missing words, typos, etc., so I don't know if I had a draft copy or what. The copy editor in me sees every mistake, so it makes it harder to like the book. That said, it was a nice story although it could have been shorter with less repetition of thoughts and feelings. There was some suspense in finding out who was setting fires, but it wasn't roller coaster suspense.

I really enjoyed this book! It most definitely kept me intrigued! I wanted to solve the mystery of the fires just as much as the characters! I had to read it in one day because I had to know!
I loved the character growth and development. It was real, and paced wonderfully! I was rooting for both hero and heroine through the whole book!
I probably should have read book one first, I am going to and do that before I read the third, because I am anxious for the next story! :)

Light Christian romance between the new deputy Burke Sloan and Keeley Turner high school principal.
This book has romance, intrigue nd a crry over mystery on top of the new one presenting it self in this book of an arsonist .
Burke and keeley have to wade ther way through multiple issues including there own but together with faith they get through.

Baggage
I always enjoy Lyn Cote's books. A young caring principal, with an undiscipline brother and a new deputy with a needy nephew in tow face many "fire happenings" in their small Northern Wisconsin town. The principal's father is rich and tries to control everything, even his daughter. However, pride tumbles

Clean, slow, predictable and preachy. I didn't like that the author kept having the two main characters question the reasons they were attracted to each other. That was definitely over done and slowed down the plot.

This story started out slow for me then with each chapter seemed to get better and better. A good story with strong characters mixed with suspense and romance.

Started this series years ago.. have no idea why I didn't continue. It wasn't because I did enjoy book 1. Likely I didn't have book 2 and I got distracted by other books. LOL! I had no trouble picking back up with Book 2 and have already started book 3. I so enjoy Lyn Cote's writings. I like mystery and intrigue, but over the years I have grow to not like super tense and heavy reads. Cozies are fun, but I do enjoy a bit more of a challenge. These fit the bill 100%!
Cote's characters are well developed and while this book focuses on Burke and Keely, characters from book one popped up here and there and an underlying storyline was continued forward, which give the series a strong since of continuity.
And yes there is romance, but it is not the absolute center of the story nor is it over-the-top romance. To me, it is real life.. relationships happens.. romance, friendships, etc. And that is what happens here.
Burke and Keely are both new to their positions.. he as deputy sheriff and her as school principal. I'd Enjoy This Author More If...
I like Lyn Cote's stories because they generally move along at a good pace, the characters are varied and relatable, and the stories are clean. I also appreciate that she writes from a perspective which is faithful to God.
But what I do not like is the constant use of two words with the same meaning when one of them would be quite enough. Another thing which bothered me was how she didn't differentiate between inner thoughts and inner dialog. There is a difference when the character is thinking about things in a general way, then abruptly the next sentence reads something like, "Why do I do that?" Italics or single quotes would've been nice. She did actually write with italics for this once, but I never saw another correct instance. There were a few typos, but they didn't really pull me out of the story. If it wasn't for those things, I'd have given this book five stars. Still, the story is a good one. If you enjoy inspirational, suspense romance, then do give it a try.
I like Lyn Cote's stories because they generally move along at a good pace, the characters are varied and relatable, and the stories are clean. I also appreciate that she writes from a perspective which is faithful to God.
But what I do not like is the constant use of two words with the same meaning when one of them would be quite enough. Another thing which bothered me was how she didn't differentiate between inner thoughts and inner dialog. There is a difference when the character is thinking about things in a general way, then abruptly the next sentence reads something like, "Why do I do that?" Italics or single quotes would've been nice. She did actually write with italics for this once, but I never saw another correct instance. There were a few typos, but they didn't really pull me out of the story. If it wasn't for those things, I'd have given this book five stars. Still, the story is a good one. If you enjoy inspirational, suspense romance, then do give it a try.

High school principal Keely Turner has her hands full. An unknown student (who she fears may be her kid brother) is pulling dangerous pranks around town, her father is sabotaging her attempts to move out, a baby is rescued from a car prior to explosion, a local father is abusing his daughter, and a new deputy has brought a troubled nephew. As they grow closer, they seek to identify the infant and determine who is wreaking havoc before someone is injured or killed.
I like Keely. She is a good woman and a good principal. I love how she draws Burke out. I loved the redemption of Jayleen and her companionship with Nick. There were several typos and punctuation errors. Thoughts were sometimes italicized, but often not, which was confusing. They had a search warrant for bullets but waiting for the gun owner to surrender them, which makes no sense. And Burke reads the rights of a suspect prematurely and almost seems to try to bar the suspect from speaking. I definitely enjoyed Bitter Autumn better, but this book was decent. I did love the redemption theme.

A Good Clean Read
I enjoyed this novel. I'll tell you upfront it is a Christian novel with Christians in it and Christian themes. But it is a really good book. The story is intriguing and kept my attention the whole day that it took me to read it. I did not miss the swear words or the sex.
This story is a mystery. Who committed the crimes? It's also a romance. It's about grief. It's about bad choices and selfishness and the rewards of such. And it's about families and relationships.
I get it 5 stars for ticking all the right boxes.

Kee.y Turner is the new principal at the high school. Nurse Sloan is the new Deputy. She has a delinquent and bullying brother in her school. Butkr has a belligent and defensive nephew he's been forced to finish raising. What could go wrong, especially when Keely & Grady's parents are the richest people in town. Grady gets in trouble at school but so does Nick. Sorting it out makes for good reading. Can't wait for the next book!

Two of six
This story for me was perfect timing. I laughed, prayed, thought, prayed some more, and cried. There was peace, joy, concern, unselfishness, hope, promise, and love in this story. Such a blessing. My second read in the series, and I just downloaded the other four. Thank you, Lyn Cote, for these books.

This was a well written and interesting Christian romance/mystery novel (it really is both genres in equal measure). The characters were portrayed pretty well, and I liked most of them. I enjoyed this novel, which is the second book in Lyn Cote's Northern Intrigue series. I didn't like it as well as the first book of the series (and I had my issues with that one too) because the romance was based almost entirely on physical attraction; the couple became a thing even when they'd only spent maybe 10 hours in each other's company and most of that time, Burke was acting in his role of deputy either during an emergency or just afterwords. I actually liked more of the characters who weren't the main focus in this story. Anyhow, it was still an enjoyable novel, and I plan to read more of the series.

A great way to spend a snowy day
Autumn's shadow is a sweet romance and mystery with enough of each to keep you reading. It is clean cut, but deals with real life with all the hurt and pain we face daily. Im ready for book 3 in this series.

I really appreciate this story. So many details align with what most everyone has dealt with or felt. Strong characters, intrigue and mystery with the blessing of God entwined, makes for a wonderful read that you can't put down!

Always ready to curl up with Ms Cote's books!
A joy to read! The small town Burke has come to be a part of and work for his friend, the sheriff, is in big trouble. Someone is targeting the high school and the danger of someone getting hurt is escalating. What a time to fall for the principal! Very good story with multiple problems affecting the people of the town.
