This book is for all those who love the sea, who have thrilled to the sight of the full moon rising over the ocean, who feel the pull of the tides, and who have dreamed of making sea magic.
You will learn how the moon, sun, and sea together create the magical ebbing and flowing tides and how to work with them. You will experience the spiritual power and beauty of the goddess of sea and moon and learn how to forge your own deep and abiding relationship with her. You will discover how practical magic and folk customs have been used to protect us against the might of the sea, and to ward off the powers of storm and flood.
The book will show you how to use the gifts of the sea to create spells and charms for use in your own life, to increase your well-being, and to protect your home, family, and friends. It will demonstrate how you can invite sea spirits into your life and make magic with them. If you wish to go deeper, it will introduce you to the profound occult concepts of the greater tides that lie behind existence, and that govern our lives, births, and deaths.
I found this book to be a good introduction to sea witchcraft practices and techniques. I feel like it provides a good starting point to go and develop further practice and research into areas within this book. I like the mix of practical tools and information along with the mix of mythology, folklore and the author's personal practice and experiences.
This book covers rituals to celebrate the moon and working with the tides and seasons of the sea. Along with sea spells and crafts.
I believe this isn't a complete book on sea witchcraft and the only one you will ever need. It is a small guide and introduction.
If you have an interest in sea witchcraft and want to introduce it to your practice or begin a practice I would recommend this book. If you have already read a lot on this subject you might not find it as much interest to you.
I enjoyed some of the concepts in this book especially in relation to mixing witchcraft and care for our oceans. I resonated with the idea of being conscious of the footprint we leave in performing our beliefs. However, I wasn’t a big fan of some of the language. I found it was too much of “this is how it should be done” and “you must do this” for my taste. There was acknowledgement of having your own take or way of doing something but I still found there was a bit too much of a hard line on some things. I’m also not a fan of spirit work or scrying so I felt a lot of this book wasn’t for me. Regardless, I will probably incorporate bits and pieces of what I did like as I go on.
