A Herb for Happiness

Rate this book
Poor Wade. Not only does he have to cope with his immense wealth, a Social standing outranked only by Royalty and the devastating looks that have beauties falling at his feet… now he has inherited the Dukedom of Mortlyn. It is all so boring!
Worse still, his staff expect him to waste time accommodating some pretty Rector’s daughter. Why? he demands – and to his amusement and scorn he is told the villagers believe she is a ‘White Witch’ who cures them of all ills.
But, when he meets the wise, mysterious and beautiful Selma, his scepticism dissolves.
Now and forever, he is utterly spellbound.

A cute one. I liked that the heroine was a healer and used traditional herbs. Thus the title of this book.

She is the late vicar’s daughter and she has been healing the Duke’s people and the villagers. They all know her and love her!

The Hero is skeptical at first but then sees her skill when she first tends to his nephew and then himself after an accident.

There is an evil cousin who is trying to kill the Duke, hence all the “accidents” occurring. But not to worry, he is dispatched satisfactorily as only Barbara Cartland can. 😂

Beautiful beyond words... again!

Rarely I praise Dame Cartland's short novels, because she used to be so much repetitive on her plots.
This one isn't so.
I have three collections after Dame Cartland: one is named, obviously, Eternal Collection. A second one is Pink Collection. The third one is named Best Collection. In this one go all the books that are, obviously, the best of the other two collections: the ones that are worth of being read more than once.
This one is directed to the Best.

I really liked this book. The story gives us more details about the use of herbs and how some estates maintain an herb garden for health purposes. The Duke may have been cynical at first, but he is eventually won over by Selma's skills and personal faith. Now that Selma becomes a Duchess at the end of the book, she will have to hire someone else to take her place since her skills have been so indispensable.
