Mission Mercenaries #4

Depravity Delivered

Rate this book
The job I took was personal for my boss, but my abduction quickly made it personal for me.
There’s no forgiveness for the things they made me do to her.
It would be easy to point fingers, but what about the part of me that liked it?
Something triggered that sickness and left me needy.
I made a choice to protect her when I could, but the need to hurt her again is always in the back of my mind.
The crazy thing is, I see that same darkness in her eyes when she looks at me.
If we survive captivity, there’s still no guarantee we’ll survive each other.

5+ Depravity has been Delivered Stars

I have really been enjoying the MISSION MERCENARIES SERIES. This is so very different from the BLACKBRIDGE SECURITY SERIES that I had previously read by Marie James, this series is much darker, and it seems each book gets darker as the series progresses because this one has been the darkest yet. I would highly recommend checking the author's website for trigger warnings.

Nash and Ayla's story isn't for the faint of heart; there are some cringe-worthy moments, but you can understand why they develop their bond.

With each of these mercenary books I wonder and almost dread where Ms James is going to take us! How dark will we go and how grey will the lines be that we have to cross in order to come out at the end with some version of a happy ending!?!

This one is different from the rest…Nash is different. He is forced into a world and situation he neither has control over nor a desire to be a part of. He is as much a victim as Ayla.

Wow…I just loved the character that Ayla became. Her strength and resilience, her intelligence and quick understanding of the peril she was in.
Then her character at the end…total badA!

The connection between these two was written perfectly. With a real understanding of how their bond, as awful as it was, shapes them and brings an understanding and reliance even they can’t properly explain.

I think this is my favourite so far…not for the situation which is so far from harrowing and sadly probably truer than we would want it to be, but for the characters Ms James brings and the teaser for what’s next.

I really could not wait to read Nash’s story. Nash & Ayla’s story isn’t an easy sunshine & beach kind of story. They fight together for survival and to save each other. The things they go through will haunt them forever and no one will ever be able to understand. It’s a sad story that will rip your heart out. Be prepared.

This was my first read by Marie James. I read Depravity Delivered as a standalone, but it is the fourth book in the Mission Mercenaries series. Be prepared that this book hooks you from the beginning. It's an intensely dark read that I really enjoyed. Be prepared to feel a lot of emotions. The hold book was written well.

I couldn't take my eyes and attention off this book. It's mindblowing and unlike anything I've read before. Ayla and Nash's story captured me and never let go. I read it only in one sitting because of how intriguing and gritty their story is. I wished the second part of their story is longer, showing how they recovered together after what had happened to them. This is definitely different and this is a warning. Woo, what they went through is out of this world and unimaginable. But it's what captivated me.

The darkest of the series to date Depravity Delivered delves into the scary and nightmarish aspects of life that most folk like to ignore and want only to be evident in fiction or horror movies. Taken and embroiled into the underground world of sex slavery and other horrors Ayla epitomises “survival” simply to protect a loved one.
On a mission to locate a particular bad guy Nash is enslaved in the same nefarious world. Depraved activities which make one’s stomach roll, torture and humiliation, visions of dying to escape versus hanging on to protect another human being are all aspects linking these two people. The world is, in part, a dark and depraved place - yet with every evil there is a balance of good.

I love this Mission Mercenaries series by this author and each book brings new things, new characters and new excitement. This fourth book is quite different, its darkness is prominent but there are warnings so heed them just in case you are so you don’t get a shock. It is raw and gritty and the emotions throughout can not be ignored, I was horrified, angry and upset for the characters. But I was also proud of them, often in their despair too, as I a found their strength uplifting. I know I would have broken very easily and that’s the thing with this story—it deals with real life situations, unfortunately. 😢

Ayla is such a determined young woman, she has a such depth to her character and is inherently honest with herself. But then again the male lead character, Nash, is as well. His thoughts are clear and very truthful. I wasn’t too sure of him before this book but I am definitely all #TeamNash now. Being thrown together, literally, meant they formed a bond, and in that hellhole, that was vital for survival.

Once again, Ms. James writes such a cleverly plotted story that when reading you can’t see any way things can be resolved. I am in awe of this author’s brilliance in crafting such intricate and entertaining stories.

What did I just read?
Marie James definitely delivered on the depravity in this book!

Both Alya and Nash with what they had to endure were strong and fiercely protective of each other although neither of them could explain why, they were just drawn to each other and both secretly enjoyed some of the harsher things they had to act out while captive. A dangerously dark story with an edge of insanity especially when the story deals with the trafficking of young women and men for the pleasure of wealthy individuals with depraved minds... I have a huge respect for Marie for the way in which she told this story, which I can't imagine would have been an easy one to write as it certainly in parts was tough to read.

I can't get enough of her stories, always intriguing and thought-provoking, highly recommended.

DEPRAVITY DELIVERED is the fourth instalment in Marie James’ contemporary, adult MISSION MERCENARIES dark, erotic, romance series focusing on a group of mercenaries for hire. This is mercenary Nash Cutler, and registered nurse Ayla’s story line. DEPRAVITY DELIVERED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the storyline premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers including r*pe, torture and abuse.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ayla and Nash) DEPRAVITY DELIVERED follows in the aftermath of the abduction of our story line heroine. After dropping her younger sister Alani off on her first day of university, Ayla becomes the victim of an abduction, trafficked to the Mexican Cartel. Four months in the hands of her captors, Ayla will meet her future in another victim of the Cartel’s abuse, mercenary for hire Nash Cutler, the man with whom Alya will find a mutual attraction and kindred spirit. Both Nash and Alya are forced to do unimaginable acts, and the end result leaves behind two broken individuals, who upon rescue and release, struggle to move forward with their lives. Unable to trust one another or the people who risked their own lives to save our story line couple, Nash and Alya have only one another in the face of more threats as they battle to survive.

The secondary and supporting characters include several members of the Cerberus MC, as well as mercenaries Lauren and Angel (LESSONS LEARNED 1), Donavan, and Ayla’s nineteen year old sister Alani. The requisite evil has many faces. Alani and Donavan’s story line is next in REDEMPTION REFUSED.

DEPRAVITY DELIVERED is not a story of romance nor love but a dark, gritty, heart breaking and thought-provoking story of power and abuse, and survival against the odds. Marie James pulls the reader into a dramatic, haunting, intense and emotional story of human depravity and exploitation of the body, mind and soul.

NOTE: Please heed my warning of triggers DEPRAVITY DELIVERED is not for the faint of heart or more sensitive readers.

Before reading this book PLEASE note trigger warnings; this book has extremely dark themes, please know this before reading.

First off know this book will not be for everyone, but if you read it you will be taken on a wild ride. Marie James told readers she was pushing us and herself out of her comfort zone on this series, and she did not lie. Ayla was abruptly thrust into the role of parent to her teen sister. When it is time for her sister to venture off to college Alya is feeling a little melancholy. She is caught off guard and finds herself kidnapped and forced into trafficking. Alya is so mentally strong. So strong. I kept thinking over and over how I am not sure how she continues to have the mental fortitude to live through what she is living through. Nash took on a job, and it quickly became more than that. He too found himself trafficked. Nash is closed off and doesn’t let anyone in. Readers truly don’t know much about him, but what we do know is Ayla is his soft spot.
This duo was thrust into horrific circumstances, and found solace in one another. Their souls knew each other and they provided comfort to one another in their darkest days. From the start readers were dedicated to this pair finding happiness with each other. Nash and Ayla protect one another against the world, and trust one another in a way they never trust anyone else. This book was amazing, but also emotional- there were days I wasn’t able to read it because it was heavy. But also an important book because life isn’t always perfect, and people are thrust into situations where they are in danger. Nash and Ayla were meant for one another and I am so happy that Marie James shared their story with readers. We also got a glimpse into her other series…which left me wanting more and more of this series and her others!

Welcome back to the extremely dark and raw world of the Mission Mercenaries. If you have any triggers regarding sexual assault, please do not read this book.

Ayla was taken from the parking lot of her sister’s dorm room the day she dropped her off for her freshman year. When she woke up, she found herself in a living nightmare. Used and abused and forced to do unthinkable things in order to keep her sister from suffering the same fight. While she hasn’t lost her will to fight, she knows she can’t because she is the only thing standing between her sister and the same fate she’ll never escape from.

On a mission to infiltrate Raul Cortez’s human trafficking organization, Nash finds himself abducted and facing a very brief and very painful future at the hands of his boss’s enemy. Used, abused and forced to hurt an innocent woman so she isn’t hurt worse by their captors, Nash finds himself in an impossible situation.

Inexplicably intertwined, Nash and Ayla must first survive their captivity and then survive life after if they can ever find their way out of the depravity they're currently trapped in.

Depravity Delivered is the darkest book of the series so far. It’s truly raw and gritty and has more triggers than any book should. That being said, Both Nash and Ayla have incredible depth as they are forced to do things to survive that no one should. Ayla’s strength and love for her sister is simply incredible. And, watching Nash deal with feelings of protectiveness and more for a woman he should be able to walk away from was mesmerizing. This romance is atypical in every way and the plot is incredibly intense. Again, be aware of the trigger warnings and walk away if you need to. But, if you are willing to spend time in a truly dark and depraved setting, Depravity Delivered is the unexpected romance you have been waiting for. 4 stars.

Book 4 in this Mission Mercenaries series - this one really does deserve its trigger warnings - be warned this is full to the brim of the dark atrocities that are associated with the sex slavery and human trafficking world - be prepared to be pushed outside your comfort zone with this one.

Ayla gets kidnapped after dropping her younger sister off at campus and is taken by the Mexican cartel that took Angel. Ayla is threatened into submission by them with the threat of hurting her sister. A weekly phone call is all she gets with her. What Ayla goes through for the love of her sister is truly awful.....

Four months later and Nash gets captured by the same cartel he is sent to watch and gain intel off for Angel. Ayla and Nash are thrown together in the most unspeakable of ways and are forced to partake in unimaginable acts while people on line pay to watch. Beaten and broken, both mentally and physically, Ayla and Nash have a connection, a bond through their captivity and understanding of what each other went through.

When they are rescued and released they both struggle with normality, unable to trust, unable to move forward, both realising their connection may be the only way forward.

The boys from Cerberus MC play a supporting role in this one, helping with the rescue from the cartel.

Not for the faint hearted this one - gritty, dark, violent, gut-wrenching, heartbreaking and thought provoking - we get a glimpse behind the curtain of what life might be like for the victims of human trafficking. A dramatic read, one you can't put down..... intense, horrifying and emotional.

Phenomenal & A Must Read!!!

Marie James is a new to me Author and just got put on my absolutely must read everything list!!! OMG this book was the most raw, most depraved, most limit pushing and intensely emotional book I never knew I needed to read. It’s book four in her Mission Mercenaries series of standalone books, and I can’t wait to read the first three. Not to mention start her Cerberus MC series which had members pop up in this book.

Abducted, degraded, humiliated and forced to do things that would haunt them, Ayla and Nash find a connection that gets stronger and stronger regardless of what they are forced to do to each other. Ayla is complacent and will do whatever they want to save her sister, Nash will do as instructed if only to save Ayla from more pain than she deserves. Their story is intense and will have you on the edge of your seat emotional and heartbroken for them. These two find freedom and their HEA in each other where they both are surprised to find they need each other in every way.

This is a story that’s not for the faint of heart, it’s packed full of TW’s and please be aware of them if you have them. It’s an eye opening story into the horrors of human trafficking and of what individuals may actually be subjected to, though fictional in every sense you can only imagine what could and may actually happen to people in this type of situation. The characters, their experiences, their traumas and their ways of coping were so realistic and is really what kept me engrossed and needing to know what happens next. Phenomenally written. Can’t wait to read more. Definitely highly recommend this book!!

I lost track of time, staying up until all hours of the night while reading Depravity Delivered.

While reading about this dark topic isn't necessarily new to me, the emotionally dark places that Marie James took me were. While it should have, and at times did, feel wrong to read about the experiences that these two characters experienced it also was like nothing I've read before. It was captivating, heart breaking, disturbing, and weirdly understandable. We live in a cruel world and there is nothing that bonds people faster than shared trauma. There is certainly enough of it going around that we all have some form of trauma and it helps us bond as we meet new people, but seriously it is nothing like Ayla and Nash experience.

Why am I being vague...this book is to be experienced and there really isn't a way to talk about what Ayla and Nash go through without major spoilers. So, just know that this book does not keep any of the darkness "off the page", it is full on, so if you need to know triggers before reading, please read them.

While this book may seem horrifying, it is actually about two people who experience one of the worst things that can happen to you and through their trauma they bond and help one another heal. There were so many times I asked myself, how are these two going to come out the other side, but in a weird way, thankfully they had each other.

I am actually loving this series and the dark places James has been willing to delve. It's been eye opening and yes, disturbing, but also an amazing reading experience.

This is a dark gritty read.
That had me on the edge of my seat.
My heart was thumping wildly throughout the book.
Ayla has more responsibilities than most people her age.
When her parents died it was up to her to raise her younger sister.
Ayla is strong and resilient. She’s loyal and she loves her sister with every fiber of her being.
Ayla has been a registered nurse for three years and her sister is now starting university.
Just when it looks like things might be getting easier and the responsibilities a little lighter.
The unthinkable happens to her.
Ayla is taken.
Nash is a mercenary for hire. His aura is menacing and dark. Not an easy man on any level.
His current job is trying to infiltrate the Cortez cartel in Mexico.
Not going according to plan he does find himself in the in but as a victim of abduction.
Ayla and Nash’s journey isn’t easy to read and sometimes I had to take a breather.
Their romance isn’t built on fun dates and outings. But built around physical and sexual abuse.
They have been broken in mind and spirit.
Their horrific ordeal has left a forever destructive effect on them.
They struggle to move on with their lives. But that’s near impossible.
Their love story is forged in their mutual suffering and anguish.
Their bond is formed with their mutual distrust of everyone.
And their connection is formed through depravity.

I was waiting for this book ever since I got a glimpse of Nash in Liam's book. But nothing could have prepared me for what I experienced. Marie once again blew my mind and took me on an emotional rollercoaster.

This read starts from where things ended in the previous book that is Nash getting captive. We also got a glimpse of Ayla's past which helped me understand her and the reasons behind the things she did.

Everything Nash and Ayla go through broke my heart. There is so much pain and the hell they experience which makes death seems welcoming. I was eagerly waiting for Angel and others to come to there rescue.

As they say sometimes it's easy to bond over common trauma or pain. Even in all the depravity Nash, Ayla find solace in each other. Though some might say there relationship isn't healthy I loved there bond. I wanna say so much more but do not wanna spoil.

This is one of the darkest books in the series and I could not keep it down once I started. Despite it being the fourth book in the series it can be read as a standalone. Cannot wait for Donavan's book next. Also, the end of Cortez.

Please check the TW/CW as there are certain scenes that might trigger. Thanks to Marie and Wildfiremarketing for the advanced copy of this mind-boggling read.

This is the fourth book in the Mission Mercenaries Series, Nash and Ayla’s story told in dual POV

This book is not sweet spring showers and rainbows, it’s endless nights of twisters and destruction. Nash and Ayla bond over the worst mankind can throw at them. Through the storm they find themselves doing their best to hold on and not be buried under the weight of it all.

Nash didn’t listen to the warnings about the mission he accepted, didn’t think it would be near as dangerous as his “boss” Angel made it out to be. That was until he finds himself in a world of hurt and depravity.

Ayla has known loss and hurt, or at least she thought she knew the worst of pain, until she’s at risk of loosing the only thing good she has left in her life. Doing everything in her power to protect the one she loves, she endures all the hurt and depravity thrown her way.

Like any storm with a devastating outcome, once you weather and survive, no matter the destruction left in its wake, if you’re strong enough you can rebuild and prosper.

Thank you Ms. James this was an amazingly, deliciously dark read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

•Dual POV
•Stand-alone, but apart of Mission Mercenaries series
•*Be sure to read the TW. It is dark and intense and involves sexual assault*

“ There’s nothing perfect about us, other than the fact that we’re perfect for each other, scars, past traumas, and no plans for the future included.”

WOW. 🤯

This book was so dark, intense, and gritty, but oh so good! 🖤

Ayla is abducted from her sisters college and forced as a prisoner to perform sexual acts in order to keep her sister safe. While she is there, she meets Nash, who was also taken hostage. Through this difficult time, they form a bond that they can’t quite explain. They have done horrible stuff to one another, but they can’t help but feel a pull towards the other person. Nash isn’t someone who cares about other people, but he can’t deny the hold that Ayla has on him. Despite the horrible things they encounter, they find themselves seeking comfort with one another.

Such a great read and looking forward to reading the next book in this series! 😍

Mission Mercenaries is a dark & twisty series that makes my dark & twisty soul sing, and I simply cannot get enough despite the fact that even I (very little triggers me) end up having to pause to take a breath here & there. Depravity Delivered felt like the darkest to date in my eyes as the world that Nash & Ayla find themselves in is horrific to no end. Nash is forced into this world because of a mission, and this is when he comes face to face with Ayla, who is very much a victim in this world. I wanted to burn things down on her behalf, and unfortunately, those things are realistic since it's absolutely a chilling evil problem in this day & age. I'm telling you it was bad, and Nash was forced to do things to Ayla that gave me pause, but somehow, they became each other's salvation in a dark world that had none. The twists were coming in hot, horrific horror that gave me chills, action/danger, and a ton of brutal emotion that destroyed my heart. This story is the epitome of darkness galore, but since I'm a dark & twisty girl, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Depravity Delivered is the newest book in the Mission Mercenaries series by Marie James. I’ll start by saying this book is good but it is dark. Very dark. If you have triggers, please proceed with caution when reading. The hero and heroine are both captured into sexual slavery and there is no shortage of description about what they are forced to endure. Ayla’s strength and the depth of her love for her sister are astonishing. She has endured so much in the effort to keep her sister safe. Watching her and Nash try to navigate their new “normal” is as heartbreaking as you would imagine. I love that they don’t care what things look like or what others think about them. They are grasping onto what makes them happy with everything they’ve got. I honestly wish more people cared less about what the world thinks of them and just lived their lives. We’ve become too judgemental of a society and if it doesn’t affect you in any way, you shouldn’t get to have a say. So more power to Nash and Ayla! An enjoyable read but definitely one that requires the proper headspace to read.

Nash & Ayla

I have a love/hate relationship with this story.

Love: The abuse they suffered in captivity is so seriously depraved that it’s a wonder that they were able to move on and find their way together at all. Through all that darkness, they bonded and found their HEA together. I loved getting a cameo from Kincaid and other Cerberus members, and I am incredibly happy that Pirro got what he deserved!.

Hate: I was excited to read about the jovial and goofy Nash, but was disappointed that we didn’t get any of that. I completely understand that what he went through changed him and that personality inside him died in captivity, but we didn’t even get a glimpse of it before everything went down. I also did not like Alani’s personality, she is a spoiled immature brat who jumps to conclusions and has no faith in her sister who did everything for her. Plus Alani’s behavior after Ayla & Nash were rescued and the truth was revealed to her, makes me uninterested in reading her story.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book and will continue to read anything Marie James writes!

If you like dark reads, Depravity Delivered is the one for you! I love this path that Marie is leading us down.
Ayla will do anything to protect her sister. They're all each other has after all. So when she is kidnapped and they use her sisters safety to keep Ayla in line, she'll do what it takes. Months of the things noone should ever have to endure. Wondering if you should just give up, but knowing what it would mean if you did. Ayla was an extremely strong character and I admired her a great deal for surviving the way she did.

Nash takes the most dangerous job of his life, and in turn ends up on the wrong side of the people he's trying to take down. Forced to hurt her in unimaginable ways, Nash isn't sure either of them will survive.

Omg...I devoured this book. I was beyond intrigued. What an amazing story of protection and survival. We couldn't get to the ending we got without the horrible things Nash and Ayla went through. Well done!

If you are looking for a hearts and flowers kind of romance this is not the book for you. Depravity Delivered takes us to the darkest depths and holds you captive. Nash and Ayla meet under circumstances that no one should ever be in but a connection was formed, one that would have their minds, bodies and lives pushed to the limit. At times the chemistry has you feeling it is all kinds of wrong but as you get pulled into the dark your heart realizes maybe they were placed in each others paths for a reason. Their story will have your anxieties running high, your heartbreaking at times and you will find yourself holding your breath. As your mind is reeling and your pulse is racing you will be sitting on the edge of your seat hoping these two can heal the broken pieces of their souls together. A story that pushes you to your limit but delivers you everything you didn’t think you wanted and more.

Ayla would do anything to ensure the safety of her sister so when she is abducted for the purpose of trafficking, she doesn’t fight back in order to protect her. She is forced to do things that no one should have to and the only thing that made it bearable was Nash, a fellow participant.

Originally Nash was sent to investigate the cartel however rather than being the person who took them down he finds himself a victim of their activities and he is drawn to Ayla despite what they were forced to do. Getting rescued should mean that it was all over but they are about to realize that the aftermath of what they experienced and the danger is far from over.

Ayla and Nash were living regular lives until evil penetrated their world. The experience has changed who they are with the only constant being each other so even though they may not be able to slide back into the lives they left they might just be able to help each other heal and find a way forward.

Nash is EVERYTHING

Marie James continues to create the amazing world of the Mission Mercenaries wit this outstanding addition to the series. Hang on to your hats, you are going on a very, very bumpy ride.
Nash and Ayla’s story isn’t pretty, in fact, it’s the exact opposite. It is gritty, raw and painful. You’ll feel ALL the emotions for them while being kept on the edge of your seat.
I had to put the book down a few times. It got to me that much. More than a few tears were shed. It was too much in the very best sense.
These 2 will make you weep, smile, get angry, feel hopeful and keep you rooting for them.
We also get to visit with some dear friends from other Marie James series. I loved how they were woven into this tale. And the next book set up has me eager for it. It’s going to be a torturous wait. I always wish I could have the ability to leave more than 5 stars with books as good as this one.

TITLE: Depravity Delivered
GENRE: Dark Romance
AUTHOR: Marie James
TROPE: Forced Proximity, Suspense
TYPE: Series (Mission Mercenaries Book 4)
POV: Dual POV
MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

⚠️ Check trigger warnings ⚠️

Depravity Delivered is the darkest installment of the Mission Mercenaries series so far. The story revolves around Alya and her survival of an impossible situation so she can protect her younger sister. Nash is on a mission which causes their paths to cross in this nightmare situation.

The suspense kicks off early in the book, immediately pulling me into the dark storyline and through all the twists and turns leading up to the bit of a cliffhanger at the end. I did not want to put this book down. I am giving Depraved Delivered a rating of 4 / 5 Stars, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment.

Depravity Delivered is the next book in the Mission Mercenaries series and it lives up to its name. This book is dark and intense.

Nash has never shied away from the dangerous jobs that are given to him. They bring in more money and as a man with no connections and commitments, the danger suits him just fine. But when his most recent mission goes south, Nash wasn't at all prepared for what he would face.

Ayla has worked hard to take care of her younger sister and keep her safe. But when Ayla gets taken in the middle of broad daylight, her world as she knows it is forever changed. There is no more light in her days and she knows her time will come sooner rather than later.

Can two people thrown together under the most horrific of conditions really find their way out of the darkness? Can they overcome their beginnings to find a path forward?
