Who you are in the dark is who you really are
A night you can't remember was either a really good night or a really bad one. When Erin O'Reilly wakes up in a notorious womanizer's apartment with a hangover, a new tattoo, and a gap in her memory, she has the feeling she had one of the bad ones. But it turns out New York had a worse night than she did.
A power outage in a city is a dangerous thing, between looting, traffic accidents, and interrupted emergency services. Somebody has tampered with Manhattan's power grid, plunging the city into darkness. Is it a reckless prank gone wrong? Or something much worse?
An unexpected lead arrives in the form of a young man who walks into the Major Crimes office and confesses to a brutal murder. There's only one problem; the NYPD can find no evidence the crime took place. Erin will have to rely on her K-9 Rolf to untangle the truth behind a psychopath's scheme. After all, a dog's nose doesn't need light to point the way.

great read

Tho it ended too soon. I’m never ready for the final chapter. I like the interactions between Erin, Cars, & Corky. I especially liked no violence with the mob in this story. “Do you know who I am?” And the response: priceless!!

If You Kill Somebody, Keep Your Mouth Shut!

by Barbara Kelley

Blackout is Book 17 of The Erin O'Reilly Mysteries, written outstandingly by Steven Henry. The entire premise of this book is if you have truly performed the perfect murder, then it is best to keep your mouth shut, and not brag about it to a feisty, smart lady detective, who has access to glocks, tazers, and a mighty cadaver sniffing canine partner named Rolf. This series is my number one favorite read and I've given every book a 5 star rating. We learned a lot more about Corky's personality, and what he will or won't do. He was a key part to helping Erin get the evidence she needed to bring down this future serial killer, by catching his sorry hind end with murder number one. As always, I love Erin and Carlyle's relationship, and my favorite character of all is that fun-loving puppy dog, Rolf, who just loves chasing the bad guys, and maybe getting a chance to bite those guys in the butt if they get out of hand. I gave this book 5 stars and will read book 18 next because it is already in my Kindle library.

Happily for me I am yet to tire of Erin O'Reilly, Rolf, Vic, Carlyle and Corky, et.al. as Erin chases criminals (sometimes skating the line professionally) and working undercover against the Irish mob. I appreciate Erin's tenacity and strong values while following evidence to put the bad guys away. I appreciate the policing overall, love Vic's sardonic dialogue and all of the action with Rolf. My gut twists a bit with all the stress Erin particularly experiences with her undercover assignment. Whenever reading Erin's adventures, I wonder how author Henry will ever get Erin and Carlyle out of the whole Irish mob thing at least without them either dying or having hits put out on them or in witness protection. Forced to continue reading this series, I sigh with a smile.

#17 in erin or reilly mysteries!

Yet another 5 starer and another favourite of mine. This one was just so hilarious. I absolutely loved all the moments where vic was in the scene. Loved how major crimes unit worked as a team to solve this case. And overall a very very enjoyable read!

I look forward to re read the series all over again! And i cant help but feel disappointed that after a few books this is going to end. I hope not although thats impossible but the characters are just soo loveable!! And i have been listening to audiobooks for this series and the narrator did an outstanding job of voicing every single character. It doesnt feel like its done by the same person!

gotta love Corky!

Corky to the rescue. Great story. Beginning to ending. Sometimes wonder if the bad guys are bad… sometimes. Fun plot that continues the Erin/ Carlyle story

Erin wakes up totally out of it, with a pounding headache and some confusion as to where she is. She hears water running so makes her way to the source and pulls a gun on the person showering. It's Corky, who is surprised and amused. Turns out she had spent the night before drinking herself into a blackout. Her arm hurts and she learns she had wanted a tattoo. She tells herself she is worried for Cars, who was on a business trip for Evan; that he is planning to kill Cars while on the trip. She worries her drinking is getting out of control.
On the other side, NYC has a major power outage and she is part of a team looking for the person who did it. And then a polite young man turns up at the Eightball, to confess that he murdered someone the night before. Plenty of plot to enjoy.
