Hoy les traigo la segunda entrega del detective Robert Kett.
Hace unos meses leí y reseñé Sin rastro, el primero de esta entretenida serie.
Aunque son casos autoconclusivos yo recomiendo siempre leer las sagas en orden porque así vemos la evolución de los personajes.
En este caso, tras unas semanas de baja tras los acontecimientos del primer libro (no digo más para no caer en spoilers), el pobre no puede ni recuperarse en condiciones del caso anterior que se vuelve a ver de lleno envuelto en una trama muy extraña; una joven ha aparecido en el bosque medio devorada por lo que parece ser un perro de enormes dimensiones.
¿Tendrá la leyenda del Black Shuck, o también conocido como Black Dog, algo que ver?
¿Quién o quiénes se encuentran detrás de este horrible crimen?
A medida que algunos detalles vayan saliendo a la luz el equipo de investigación no dará crédito. El intrépido Kett volverá a resolver muy oportunamente por su cuenta lo que esconden esos bosques de la localidad de Norfolk. Al igual que en la primera parte, la resolución no vendrá dada por la investigación per se sino por las capacidades intuitivas de Robert 🤔
Lo dicho, muy oportuno, lo que hará que nuestro héroe particular sea siempre el que dé con la solución, con el elemento de la ecuación que quedaba por resolver.
Pero bueno, se lo perdonamos que bastante tiene ya con resolver los casos y lidiar con sus tres pequeñas terremotos 😂 ¿Cómo lo hace? 🤔😂😂
Nos seguimos encontrando con unos grandes personajes, con carisma y unos diálogos muy divertidos.
En lo referente a la historia en sí, no derrocha originalidad ni una trama muy elaborada pero son novelas perfectas para iniciarse en el género o simplemente para pasar unas horas de desconexión.
Redondeo a cuatro estrellas por lo ágil de la trama, lo bien perfilados que están los personajes y porque rompe con los tópicos, aquí nadie es alcohólico, ni tienen traumas irreparables. Tienen problemas personales como todo el mundo, de hecho Kett viene arrastrando una depresión desde la misteriosa desaparición de su mujer meses atrás. Pero a pesar de todo, se toman todo con bastante humor y eso es algo que se agradece en medio de tanto asesinato truculento.
👌Por mi parte lo tengo muy claro, seguiré con la serie, porque deja frentes abiertos y porque me encanta como escribe el autor.
La investigación principal queda bien cerrada pero hay algo en lo referente a la vida personal de Kett que tengo muchas ganas de saber como se resuelve.
¡Toca esperar al siguiente! No queda otra 😅

Pues ha estado a un tris de las 5 estrellas pero...
El culpable no me ha terminado de cuadrar o de creérmelo.
En fin 2º libro del inspector Kett y la verdad es que me ha parecido incluso superior al 1º el cual ya me ha había gustado bastante.
La investigación policial me ha parecido bastante real y si bien el descubrimiento del culpable ha sido como un flashback no me ha desentonado, pero si quien era y no digo mas...
Las partes en que salen las niñas le dan un toque de humor al libro, con un padre intentando cuidar a tres trastos, jajaja y torbellinos de 1, 3 y 7 años.
Estoy a la espera de que sigan traduciendo esta serie.
Tres cerditos para ya!!

I quite enjoyed Paper Girls - but this one is very odd. The characters are very enjoyable and the back story of Ketts family is good. Then we get to the actual murder and investigation - which is what its all about really. Its fanciful nonsense, like something out of a cheap horror comic book. Its not badly written its just so outrageous that it bears no resemblance to possible reality. Very strange !
Having said that I did finish reading Bad Dog and I will read book #3.

Another fantastic book in the series! Easily as good as the first instalment in DC Robbie Kett’s chaotic life as a detective and a single father.
A great read and a solid follow up.

Als het lichaam van een jonge vrouw wordt gevonden in Norwich, denken buurtgenoten in eerste instantie dat ze is aangevallen door een wilde hond. Maar inspecteur Robert Kett weet dat deze wonden onmogelijk door een dier kunnen zijn veroorzaakt.
Dan duikt er een tweede lichaam op, nog bloederiger dan het vorige, en weet Kett dat hij jacht maakt op een meedogenloze seriemoordenaar die nog lang niet klaar is. Een moordenaar die misschien ook jacht maakt op hem.
'Wees niet bang' is het tweede deel van de serie met Robert Kett en ja... ik ben fan! Ik raad je aan om bij het eerste deel te beginnen, want hierin leer je Kett en zijn gezin al redelijk goed kennen.
Oom in dit deel begint het al meteen spannend en ik wilde snel verder lezen. Er wordt namelijk een lichaam van een vrouw gevonden en ze is gruwelijk aan haar eind gekomen. Het lijkt erop dat ze slachtoffer is geworden van een wilde hond en ze is vreselijk toegetakeld, maar Kett weet zeker dat dit niet door een dier is gedaan.
Samen met zijn team gaat hij op onderzoek uit, maar dan valt er een tweede slachtoffer en de wonden komen overeen met de eerder gevonden vrouw. Is het toch een wilde hond? Of heeft Kett gelijk en is het een mens?
Ik vond dit verhaal dus al vanaf de eerste bladzijde goed! Het is spannend en heerlijk gruwelijk! Een beetje zoals bij Chris Carter, dus als je van dit soort verhalen houdt: ga deze serie lezen!!!
De zoektocht naar de dader vond ik ook erg goed en er zijn meerdere verdachten. De opbouw is prima, er is meer dan voldoende spanning én de schrijfstijl is heerlijk!
Robert Kett is een heel erg interessant personage en hij loopt zelf met een heel groot drama rond (waar je in het eerste deel ook heel veel over leest).
Het einde smaakt zeker naar meer, want het eindigt met een cliffhanger. Je begrijpt dus wel dat ik héél graag deel drie nu wil lezen! In het Engels zijn hier trouwens al zeventien (!!!) delen van verschenen, dus dat wordt nog heel lang genieten van verschillende moordzaken!
Ik wil @boekerij heel erg bedanken voor het recensie-exemplaar!

Paha koer" on tegelikult krimisarja teine raamat juba, esimene sellest on "Ajalehetüdrukud" kuid juba kahe loetud raamatu pealt võin öelda, et see on megahea sari. Minu jaoks on see pürgimas lemmikute hulka ning ootan põnevusega juba uut osa.
Raamat algab põnevalt ning väga olevaks jääb kuni lõpuni välja, sellest ei puudu ka humoorikaid hetkeid. Tempo tegevuste ja juhtumite ümber on lennukas ning raamat saab loetud kiirelt. Tegelaskujud on muhedad ning mulle väga meeldivad Kett ja Porteri duo, nad sobivad omavahel hästi kokku ning tekitavad parajalt huumorit.
Ning las ma veel ütlen...Oh jummel milline lõpp!!!! Pole üldse aus inimesi(mind) niimoodi kannatama panna, jättes eriti põneva ja küsimusi tekitava hetke lõppu. Ma vajan uut osa! Kohe! Palun ilmu juba rutem..

Kažką naujo ir netikėto trileriuose atrasti darosi sunku. Kai tiek jų esu perskaičiusi, tai ir nustebinti nelengva. Ši serija labiausiai džiugina net ne nusikaltimais ir narpliojimu, o pagrindinio veikėjo gyvenimu. Tyrėjas čia toks paprastas ir žemiškas, kad atrodo tokį kaimyną ar kaimynę turim visi. Pavargęs sunkiame darbe, kuriame valandų skaičiuoti net neišeitų, vienas pats auginantis tris mažametes dukras ir skęstantis visiems taip pažįstamuose tėvystės rūpesčiuose.
Autorius situacijas pateikia taip pažįstamai: nuo bandymo spiegiančius vaikus prisegti auto kėdutėse, iki pertraukto svarbaus susitikimo dėl vaiko skambučio, nes jis verkia jog išsikrovė planšetė :D Tėvai mėgstantys detektyvus tikrai turi šitą seriją pabandyt, nes ir pasijuoksit, ir akis pavartysit dėl visų vaikiškų kaprizų, kuriuos patys kasdien išgyvenat. O ir fainas nusikaltimų mįsles minsit.
Kalbant būtent apie šią dalį - nebloga. Yra daug įdomių kabliukų: ir šiurpi kaimo legenda, ir žmones žudantis milžiniškas šuo. Susiskaitė tikrai neblogai, o ir pats paskutinis užmestas jaukas apie įžangą į trečią dalį labai nustebino. Spirgėte spirgu kaip jos laukiu! Ar seriją būtina skaityti iš eilės? Taip. Mat kaip ir minėjau, pagrindinio veikėjo asmeninis gyvenimas čia tikrai svarbus, nes jis ieško savo dingusios žmonos.

This is the third of the DCI Kett stories that I have read, and Kett made a brief appearance in The Harder They Fall. Each of the Kett novels have been great crime mystery novels, and interesting reads. But they are dark books with terrible crimes. Definitely not for all readers. Over ten years ago, I read and loved the Lockdown series published primarily for a young adult audience by Alexander Gordon Smith. When I found out he had a new crime mystery series in the works I had visions of his skill turned to series like Wired in the Blood, or the Commander. There is just something so appealing about a British crime drama or procedural, I was hooked from the concept. And I have read a mystery or crime thriller a week from the pen of Alex Smith since reading that first story. The first short story is available for free on his site, if you are uncertain but I will warn you the stories are very addictive.
The book begins 6 weeks after Paper Girls. DCI Kett who was on compassionate leave after the abduction of his wife. Is now assigned to the special task force in the area he went away to, to get away with his kids. It is the area he grew up in. After solving the first case in spectacular fashion he has been asked to stay on. For the benefit of the department, for his own health, and for his kids. When we first see Kett in this story he is meeting with a shrink to get cleared to return from duty. His injuries both physical and emotional from the paper girls case are not fully healed. When his commanding officer steps in and forces the shrink to clear him because there is a new case and he needs Kett working in.
But right from when he first sees the body he suspects that all is not as it seems. It looks like it might be an attack from a large dog, but Kett sees indications that lead him to believe there is human involvement also. Unfortunately, the body is found right on the border between two departments. And by the end of the story Kett has greatly upset both commanders. But as usual Kett has a knack for figuring out things that others do not. And soon he realizes what is happening and places himself in great danger going in alone again.
But to find out what happens you will need to read this gripping crime drama yourself. It is a good read it what has shaped up to be an intense addictive series.
When I was younger, I went through a phase of reading mysteries. A lot of books by Andrew M. Greely, Tom Clancy, and Robert B. Parker. And DCI Kett is a great character in the genre. But upp until last year I had not read much in the mystery or crime genres for over 25 years. But last year I did read a lot of crime and mystery books. I read all the books available by Maureen Jennings, the Jack Reacher Series by Lee Child, and the Hunt for Reacher series by Diane Capri. I said it before and I stand by it, I really believe that the writing in this story kept up with them all. It is a great third story in a series. Again it sets us up for some intense action in the coming volumes.
This is a great read for anyone who enjoys the crime, mystery, thriller genres!

It looks like it might be an attack from a large dog, but Kett sees indications that lead him to believe there is human involvement also. Unfortunately, the body is found right on the border between two departments. And by the end of the story Kett has greatly upset both commanders. But as usual Kett has a knack for figuring out things that others do not. And soon he realizes what is happening and places himself in great danger going in alone again.
But to find out what happens you will need to read this gripping crime drama yourself. It is a good read it what has shaped up to be an intense addictive series.
When I was younger, I went through a phase of reading mysteries. A lot of books by Andrew M. Greely, Tom Clancy, and Robert B. Parker. And DCI Kett is a great character in the genre. But upp until last year I had not read much in the mystery or crime genres for over 25 years. But last year I did read a lot of crime and mystery books. I read all the books available by Maureen Jennings, the Jack Reacher Series by Lee Child, and the Hunt for Reacher series by Diane Capri. I said it before and I stand by it, I really believe that the writing in this story kept up with them all. It is a great third story in a series. Again it sets us up for some intense action in the coming volumes.
This is a great read for anyone who enjoys the crime, mystery, thriller genres!

Wonderful, can't wait for book 3!
Ok so it's only book 2, in this series but I'm hooked. The characters are brilliantly thought out, especially the protagonist DCI Robert Kett, Savage, Clare etc.
A harrowing story and police procedural, to catch a killer with, what looks like a savage and brutal murder by man and beast.........it isn't all what it seems. Cleverly put together and puzzling questions add to that the absence of solid evidence or even leads makes this book , almost impossible to put down!
The clever banter between characters is wonderful, the relationship between Kett and his three young daughters is in parts giggle worthy (he was woken by giggling and a toe up his nose).The stress of his job, and being a lone parent after the abduction of his wife who is still missing in London, creeps into your head like a personal loss, a very emotive and scary story with several threads running through it.
One of the nice things in this series, we see a glimpse of the personal lives of the characters, as well as their professional and more often than not, dangerous situation they find themselves in!
Highly recommend this series!

Another great book from Alex Smith.
With a woman’s body found out in the countryside, DCI Kett and the team initially think she was attacked and killed by a dog. However, the post mortem reveals that it was a person who killed her, and the hunt for the killer gets underway.
There’s more banter between Porter, Savage and Kett which I loved and Kett’s three daughters are as entertaining as ever.
Another great read.

This second installment of the series picks up six weeks after the end of the first installment. Robbie is still obsessing over the clues and message that he discovered about his missing wife in the last installment. He’s also put a name “Black Dog” to his depression, that at times manifests into a delusion of a big black dog. He’s also still physically recovering and as the story opens, Robbie hasn’t been released from the department shrink and mandatory psych evaluation to go back to work. That is until Superintendent Clare barges into the session, and in a scene that had me cracking up, Clare makes it very clear to Dr Richard Johnson, Double Dick, that Robbie will be going back to work immediately. Lmao😂 Yeah, I like Clare!!!
The book summary lays out the premise for the primary storyline of the investigation of a murder and the secondary storyline of Robbie’s continuing struggles of taking care of his three daughters without his wife. While I completely understand that being a single parent struggling with keeping reliable childcare is a tremendous problem for many people, Smith does manage to use British humor to lighten the tone of this major issue. As any parent will agree, finding a wonderful babysitter, or as they say in Britain, childminder, is an absolute godsend!!!
Most of the story revolves around the investigation of the murder that leads Robbie and the team to a pair of felonious brothers as well as another death. After that, the end comes pretty quick, and it’s quite the shocker! I never saw that coming. At 270pgs, this is a really quick read and while most of the story is a solid 3.5star, I'm feeling compelled to round up because I love stories that make me laugh! Der zweite Band der Reihe um Detective Chief Inspector Robert Kett hat mich regelrecht umgehauen! Nach dem ersten Band, der schon gut war, hat dieser Teil mich endgültig überzeugt. Ein echter Pageturner, den man kaum aus der Hand legen kann. Die Geschichte ist spannend, manchmal brutal, und die Auflösung hat mich richtig überrascht.
Im Mittelpunkt steht eine grausam zugerichtete Leiche im Wald, die eine bekannte Norfolk-Legende zum Leben erweckt: den Shuck, eine wilde Bestie. Doch die Wunden des Opfers sprechen eine andere Sprache, und Kett kämpft nicht nur gegen einen gefährlichen Serienkiller, sondern auch mit den eigenen Dämonen – dem Verschwinden seiner Frau und einer Schussverletzung.
Das Buch ist perfekt für zwischendurch: kurzweilig, spannend und fesselnd. Für das volle Leseerlebnis empfehle ich, die Reihe chronologisch zu lesen, um die Hintergrundgeschichte von Kett richtig zu verstehen.
Wenn du auf düstere, atmosphärische Thriller stehst, die dich an den Rand des Sitzes treiben, dann ist dies genau das richtige Buch.

I really didn't like this follow up to Paper Girls. I still enjoyed DI Kett and the other police characters but the story was poor and borders on the ridiculous. Not sure if I will move on to book 3 even though I would like to know if Kett gets news about his missing wife.

Really enjoying the DCI Kett series of books from Alex Smith. This, the second book in the series, was just as good as the first, and can't wait to dive into number 3! I like the fact that there is an underlying story that is carried through each of the books, while DCI Kett also has a new challenge in each new book.

Das war spannend, aber nicht so gut wie das erste Buch! Ich werde trotzdem weiter die Serie lesen, da ich sehr die Charaktere mag!

Bad Dog is the second book in the DCI Kett series. After a good opening book, the second failed to live up to its predecessor. The premise of the book is strange and the plot becomes more unrealistic as you venture through the book, which resulted in my loss of attention, the ending was no better than the plot, leaving me cold. I'll read the next instalment as I like the characters, although the focus on his daughters can become a little tedious. Hoping the third instalment goes back the standard of the opening book in this series.

Conoceremos al inspector Robert Kett quien tras el secuestro de su esposa se traslada a Norfolk para superar el duelo por la ausencia de Billy con sus hijas.
Al poco tiempo es requerido en la comisaría del distrito para la búsqueda de unas repartidoras de periódicos desaparecidas.
Conocerá al equipo asignado al caso y se involucrará en una investigación en la que nada es lo que parece.
La he devorado en una escapada Barcelona-Madrid, enganchadísima con el suspense, la acción y los toques de humor que me han sacado más de una 🤣
El autor ha desarrollado unos personajes tan bien perfilados que enseguida haces tuyos.
Kett desprende un magnetismo especial 😍

Al abrirme las puertas a su mundo, necesitaba seguir con Kett y su equipo, y esta entrega ha sido ESPECTACULAR 😱
Una mujer aparece en el bosque asesinada brutalmente y a primera vista esa desgarradora imagen parece obra de un animal, creen que de un perro grande y salvaje pero pronto se dan cuenta de que es un asesinato a manos de un humano😰
Kett se enfrenta a un caso espeluznante. Tendrá que utilizar sus recursos y su intuición para resolver un misterio que amenaza la vida de los habitantes de Norfolk.
Capítulos cortos, descripciones detalladas, giros de vértigo y una trama impresionante.
"Perro Malo" ha superado todas mis expectativas 🙉 Brutal y despiadada es una novela policíaca muy negra.
Perdiendo horas de sueño en una lectura compulsiva he sentido miedo, y sí, se han colado en mis sueños
El final lo he vivido como si estuviera allí con el equipo.
Las escenas de acción son impresionantes debido a la pluma, magistral, del autor quien se sitúa en mis🔝
Necesito YA la tercera entrega de Robert Kett, ¡qué nervios!😅

Bad Dog by Alex Smith is the 2nd book in the DCI Kett Mystery series. Recovering from his injuries sustained in his previous case, DCI Robert Kett is asked to stay on in Norfolk and help investigate the brutal murder of a young woman with injuries consistant with being attacked by a wild beast and the locals believing the legendary Black Shuck responsible. DCI Kett has his hands full with his wife still missing and three children to care for. I love the way the police family come together to help support him and his children. He has made some terrific friends but still seems to take high risks in solving his cases. He seems to realise that he is letting his family down by not taking better care of himself. The killings in this book are particularly gruesome and the mystery was rather strange and depraved. I did not enjoy this one as much as the first book for this reason, but I did like getting to know the team a little better. There are hints that the mystery of his wife's disappearance may be resolved in the next book. A superb and captivating police procedural with a particularly deranged killer.

Druhý díl si drží laťku stejně vysoko jako první díl Doručovatelky. Čtivá detektivka se zajímavou zápletkou, ve které autor prolije příliš mnoho krve a některé drastičtější scény mohou odradit citlivější čtenáře. Zápletka působí lehce neuvěřitelně, ale autor splnil vše, co od podobného typu příběhu očekávám. Nevadil mi ani snadno odhalitelný pachatel. Hlavní hrdina šéfinspektor Robert Kett je sympaťák a jeho tři dcery pěkná kvítka, takže o zábavu a vtipné scény není nouze. Vedlejší postavy si rovněž oblíbíte. Výtku mám však k české obálce, která se mi vůbec nelíbí a více mi k příběhu a celkové atmosféře pasuje ta originální. Na závěr musím vytknout (!) rozdílnou velikost knih ve stejné sérii. Opravdu nerozumím tomu, jak se to může v dnešní době vůbec stát. Kvůli tomu si nepořizuji ani Tři malá prasátka, což je třetím dílem série, protože mě to docela vytočilo.
