I was a good worker who wanted to be a bad girl, So I went where good girls don’t go. That’s where I meet him. Shah. Boss of the galactic underworld. We’re not complete strangers. Our paths crossed once a long time ago, and he hasn't forgotten me.
In Shah's world, no good deed, or good girl, goes unpunished. He's going to make me his sorry little hostage. He's going to show me what a mistake it was to walk into his world. And no matter how much they pay to get me back... He's never going to let me go.
Amazon Top 100, USA Today bestselling, and #1 bestselling author in multiple Amazon categories, Loki Renard writes sizzling hot, occasionally dark and twisted stories of dominance, submission and discipline.
The setting was interesting. There are drones (factory worker bees who are 'conditioned' for maximum efficiency), the Elites (the factory owners) and criminals (those outside the system). I think I would have enjoyed this book more if Shah (the MMC, a criminal) was a little softer towards Dreamy (the FMC). Having an ultra possessive MMC + mind control themes (because Dreamy is a drone) + dubcon and spanking/discipline was a bit too much for me!
I really rather enjoyed this short story, and that says a lot because my luck with this author tends to lean towards the not enjoyed side. But what I loved is that we have a quiet, shy and obedient FMC here. Which is something we don't get enough of and that I can relate to a lot more than all these "badass" chicks we always get. Okay, yeah....here she was legitimately brainwashed to be that way, but still.
Dreamy (because she doesn't have a real name) is a worker drone. Her entire being revolves around folding boxes and always doing what she is expected to do at the times she's expected. But something changes one night when, for whatever reason, she decides to leave her cell of a room and go down to the docks instead of to sleep. Here is where all the criminals and non Colony people gather and she attracts the wrong kind of attention immediately. But she also is found by a dangerous someone from her her past.
Shah is one of the most wanted criminals by the Colony. Him and Dreamy actually have a history of a sort because she's the one who helped him escape being caught by ones who would kill him on sight many years ago. He actually says she's the one who made his whole empire possible. And now that she has appeared in front of him again, he's going to take her and keep her this time.
Dreamy's programmed compliance makes a lot of things easy for Shah, but at the same time he sees the strength within her every time she speaks to him in ways nobody else would dare. Shah basically tells her that he took her to pretty much be his sex toy, and strangely enough, Dreamy doesn't mind. What he makes her feel is unlike anything she could have even imagined. But of course there's more to it than that. Despite the fact that Dreamy is nothing like the typical women Shah usually gets with, it's so easy to tell that he's been in love with her since their first meeting.
Obviously there's going to be a little bit more going on here than just these two in the bedroom despite being a shorter story. Shah still has his criminal enterprise to run but he has a traitor on his ship and things go bad fast. And while the traitor was kind of predictable, the depths of their betrayal went crazy deep. So that part was more surprising. While it also explained by the colony was so obsessed with getting Dreamy back, it also didn't make any sense. Because like she repeatedly said, she was replaceable. So I still don't really get why they expended so much time and resources on it. I was good with how this ended though. It mostly worked.
All in all, this one was a rare win for me with this author.
It took forever for this fairly short read to get to the point. I rarely DNF a book, but I almost did this one. It was at 64% before it finally clicked into place for me.
I loved, loved, loved Ransom the first book in these standalone romance novels in this series. Hostage not so much. In the end I did like both Shah and Dreamy, and liked the conclusion to the story.
I started this series because I was interested in the next book, Alien Psycho, which is already in my Kindle to read. If I had read Hostage first, I am not sure if I would read the others even though I did end up liking the resolution of the book and the whole brainwashing concept. Which would have been a shame really because Ransom was rip, roaring hilarious!
Patience is a virtue, and if you have patience, you probably will like this book too. Finally, onto Alien Psycho!
Hostage (Possessive Protective Aci-Fi Alien Romance Series) by Loki Renard. I love a good sci-fi romance and this series has been waiting on my TBR for quite some time now, and as part of my reading challenge this year is to try to get through as many of my TBR as possible, coupled with the fact the fact that I had the entire series sitting, waiting- well it was a no brainer. #whodoesntloveagoodbingeread This is Shah and Dreamy’s story. He's the Boss of the galactic underworld and she's his hostage. Their past history colours their relationship, and adds an extra layer of complexity to the situation. Add in some kink and some dubcon- and things get a little heated. Sci-fi romance with drama, angst, darker elements, possessive alpha male, challenges, twists, chemistry, steam, BDSM, kink, dubcon, and more. Happy Reading…
This is not my favorite Loki Renard book. There was way too much other woman drama.
The hero is a famous criminal. Heroine is a worker drone. She breaks her programming and goes to a bar looking for something not part of her routine. Hero sees her and protects her. They met one time years ago, she saved him from the police by showing him a secret way to escape. He decides he owes her freedom so he kidnaps her from the bar so she doesn't have to work 16 hours a day everyday.
He loves her and is obsessed with her. She is the only woman he wants. The other women on his ship can't understand it.
They think heroine is a spy. But it isn't her, it's hero's ex one night stand who wants heroine gone and frames her.
Dreamy didn’t know why she did it. She was just on autopilot. One minute she was in her room getting ready to go to sleep to then start another day in the factor, the next she walked out into the dregs. She sure didn’t expect to meet Shah. Seven years ago, she saved Shah. Now, after all this time he isn’t going to let her get away. He should have taken her then, but now is his chance to change all that. She was meant for him. But something is going on. Is she bait? Why are they being attacked? I have to say I had my doubts too. I had a feeling about who was to traitor but how it all came about, WOW. Dreamy may not seemed like a strong woman but she was. We learn a great deal about her and Shah past and how it is tied together. But is this the end or is something coming?
Dreamy’s life at the colony is based on a schedule of work, rest, sleep repeat day in day out until she breaks the program only to wander into the arms of the wanted criminal Shah… But in typical Loki style that I have come to enjoy there is more to this story than meets the eye with its twists of betrayal, mayhem, steamy scenes and a little fist pump of revenge that made this for me a hard to put down book and can’t wait to read the next book after the hint at the end…
Is there a second part to this book, because the author left this book with a cliff hanger. Why are the people proofreading these books tell the author or suggest to the author that the book is incomplete. Per example if Zelig memory is coming back why in god’s green earth would she just end the book and not do another one to finish the whole story. The rating I gave this book is because it is a really good book even if the ending is incomplete.
Ok I enjoyed the book even thou it's not my usual but I've read a lot of books by this author n they never disappoint. Although different from my Mafia books, this one was very interesting. Good plot, interesting characters. Yummy, Hot sexy times. Short but sweet with a great HEA.
So addictive, and hard to put down, so I didn't. I read it straight through. Dreamy and Shah are hot together. They have a history but it's hidden. I think there are parallels between Dreamy's existence and how focused people get in their own lane. Until some force of nature hits them out of their routine and a new path opens up. Shah is Dreamy's force of change. I loved everything about them.
Big companies on the Colony takes people and programs them to do one job for life. Dreamy decides to go for a walk one night even though her programming shouldn’t allow her to do so. Shah a famous criminal finds Dreamy and takes her back to his ship. The relationship develops between them and now they must learn who is trying to kill them. Recommend this book
Great storyline and wonderful characters with lots of action and twists and turns. Shah is a criminal who met Dreamy in the past but lost her back to the Colony. This time when she is taken from him, he has a plan to get her back and his plan works to perfection. Dreamy and Shah find peace and the family they want.
Loki has created a dystopian world well worth reading. The story is original and creative. The characters are likable and intelligent. There’s lots of action and a major twist that will blow you away. Loved that it was not heavy on cruel sexual practices at all.
I story was very entertaining with plenty of surprises I wasn’t expecting. The unexpected kept me happily reading until the end. The characters are likable with plenty of steam in their relationship 🔥 I will definitely being reading more in this series!
Loki Renard really knows how to weave a story around hot, hot sex. Her aliens/creatures/males are everything a perfect fantasy man should be and more. The females are relatable and fully human, not paper dolls. A can't put it down read....
The writing style is 2 dimensional. No depth, no characterisation, the story seems to be on speed. Its all very weird. Nothing remotely dark about this, its like a harlequin romance but with one sex scene of anal sex.
Wow, this was surprising. There's a twist near the end that had me open-mouthed. The ending was so lovely and the hero's thoughts about the heroine were so touching, I almost cried. Hot times are 🔥 and there's a lot of 🍑 whipping, tbh 😬 but she often enjoyed it so... 😂
4.5 stars Super hot! I loved this story and the unique pieces of it that made it different than others in the genre. It's not often in romance the story is really different but I found this was! I found a few inconsistencies got to me, like when he tells the whole story of how he met Malik and Zeki and then the next chapter she doesn't know they are brother and sister. But other than that I really liked this one!
So we never find out the heroine's REAL name, but i loved her nonetheless!!! Her innocence and sass were a perfect blend! Shah was dominant, yet vulnerable. And M?!? I need to know that he finds happiness!! will Z have a "routine break" moment too?!? This looks like the start of a great series!!!
Loki Renard can write a damn novella. This book follows Dreamy a drone worker and Shah the criminal outlaw. It is deliciously spicy. Loki is one of the best writers I’ve found when it comes to a dominant, possessive male love interest who has a sweet spot for our female main character. If you are looking for a quick steamy read I HIGHLY suggest this book!
Loved it! I’m really into omegaverse, but I hate when the female is always fighting submission. Though Dreamy is programmed to be obedient, it was so nice to have a MFC be soft for once.
