Une culpabilité affamée et pesante que je porte en moi depuis bien trop longtemps. Je ne pense pas pouvoir m'en débarrasser un jour. À quarante-deux ans, je me suis habituée à ce qu'elle fasse partie de moi, mais j'aimerais essayer.
Tout ce que j'ai à faire, c'est arrêter de fixer le bâtiment comme s'il contenait toutes les réponses de l'univers, et de monter ces escaliers pour parler directement à Olivia. Rien ne sera résolu tant que je serai là, sans rien faire d'autre.
Je soupire profondément, je regarde autour de moi pour m'assurer que personne ne me regarde – même si je n'ai aucune idée de la raison pour laquelle je m'en soucie – avant de finalement sortir la tête de mon derrière et de me diriger vers l'intérieur. Mon cœur bat à tout rompre alors que je monte les escaliers, en suivant les indications que June m'a données, jusqu'à ce que je voie la porte. Numéro vingt-trois. L'appartement de son amie dans lequel elle séjourne pendant qu'elle se remet de l'accident.
Avec un peu de chance, une fois que nous nous serons liées, Olivia me laissera lui acheter un logement. Elle n'a pas besoin de vivre sur le canapé de quelqu'un si ce n'est pas ce qu'elle veut.

Pourquoi est-ce que je me sens tout nerveux en attendant que la porte s'ouvre ? Je ne peux pas rester immobile, ce qui est étrange pour quelqu'un qui a toujours été décrit comme un « mec cool » . Peut-être que j'ai toujours détesté cette catégorisation ringarde, mais en ce moment, j'aimerais être exactement cela.
Tout autre chose que ces tics nerveux.
"Bonjour?"
J'ouvre et ferme la bouche à plusieurs reprises, ressemblant probablement à un poisson rouge sans idée, alors qu'une superbe femme blonde aux courbes se tient devant moi, me regardant curieusement. Les vêtements de yoga moulants qu'elle porte font des merveilles. Son décolleté implore d'être touché alors qu'il déborde de son haut moulant et de ses leggings moulants, ne laissant rien à l'imagination. Elle me laisse sans voix et peu de gens peuvent en dire autant.
« Allo ? » répète-t-elle. « Puis-je faire quelque chose pour vous ? » poursuit-elle, l’irritation perçant sa voix. « Parce que nous sommes en train de cuisiner, alors… »
"Papa?"
Oh mon Dieu ! Voilà Olivia. Ma fille. Elle a une vingtaine d'années, mais pour l'instant elle ressemble à une coquille vide. Elle a mes yeux noirs mais les cheveux bouclés de sa mère. Un mélange parfait de moi et de June. La regarder me fait mal au cœur, à cause de tout ce qui m'a manqué.
« Tu es mon père, n’est-ce pas ? » Olivia s’avance pour se tenir à côté de la blonde, les sourcils froncés, curieux. « Mais qu’est-ce que tu fais ici ? C’est un peu… bizarre. »
« Euh, ouais, c'est probablement le cas. » Je secoue la tête, essayant de me remettre dans le bain parce que ça ne se passe pas bien du tout. Je ne pensais pas que mon mutisme serait le problème. « Mais j'ai parlé à ta mère, et… »
« Urgh, maman », gémit Olivia en rejetant la tête en arrière. « J'aimerais qu'elle accepte que je vais bien. Vraiment. Je n'ai pas besoin qu'elle intervienne tout le temps, ça me rend folle... »
Avec un gémissement, elle disparaît dans l'appartement, me laissant debout, maladroitement, près de la porte, à regarder sa colocataire incroyablement sexy. Je suppose que le fait qu'elle ne m'ait pas claqué la porte au nez est un plus.
« Je suis Elijah Agnor. » Je lui tends maladroitement la main pour qu'elle la serre.
« Isabella Henry. Tu veux entrer ? Je ne sais pas si Olivia veut parler, mais… »
« Je veux juste lui offrir quelque chose qui, je l'espère, lui fera du bien, car elle ne semble vraiment pas très heureuse en ce moment. »
« Elle a traversé beaucoup d'épreuves », dit doucement Isabella avec un haussement d'épaules.
Une fois invitée à l'intérieur, je trouve Olivia recroquevillée en boule sur une sorte de canapé-lit. Ouais, je ne pense pas que ce soit la situation idéale pour elle, après une rupture difficile et un accident. Même si j'imagine que c'est plutôt sympa d'avoir une colocataire aussi gentille. Une colocataire qui est très agréable à regarder...
Non pas que je sois ici pour surveiller la colocataire d'Olivia.
Les choses vont déjà assez mal.
« Olivia, ta mère m'a contactée uniquement parce qu'elle pensait que tu aimerais prendre des vacances. Je pars sur l'île la semaine prochaine et j'ai pensé que tu aimerais venir… »
« L' île ? » se moque-t-elle, complètement incrédule. « Mais de quoi tu parles ? Tu peux passer la journée à discuter avec d'autres riches, mais les gens normaux ne parlent pas comme ça. »
Aïe. Donc je ne l'impressionne pas.
C'est compréhensible. Je ne sais pas grand-chose de la vie qu'elle a eue en grandissant avec June, mais je suppose qu'elle n'avait pas des milliards en banque. Mais elle n'a pas à me détester à cause de mon argent, je peux l'utiliser pour l'aider.
« D’accord, d’accord. L’île de Laucala », je me corrige humblement.
« Oh, bien sûr, celle-là, bien sûr. Comment ai-je pu être aussi stupide ? » Le roulement des yeux est énorme.
« Alors, tu aimerais venir quelques jours, quelques semaines ? Pour te ressourcer et t’éloigner de tout ? »

Je croise le regard d'Isabella et je suis presque sûr qu'elle peut sentir à quel point je me sens impuissant. Mon Dieu, j'espère qu'elle va m'aider ici parce que je me noie. Olivia ne veut pas m'offrir un canot de sauvetage, et je suppose que je ne peux pas vraiment la blâmer.

« Peut-être que ce serait bon pour toi. »

« Isabella, ne te mêle pas de ça. Je ne veux pas aller avec papa… »
« Tu ne penses pas qu'un peu de temps loin d'ici et de la situation pourrait t'aider ? Je ne sais rien de l'île de Laucala mais elle me semble exotique. Quelle meilleure façon de se sentir à nouveau soi-même que de profiter du soleil et de boire des cocktails ? Pense aux plages. »
« Les Fidji ont les plus belles plages… »
Oups. J'aurais mieux fait de rester silencieuse. Deux paires d'yeux féroces qui me regardent fixement, ça ne fait pas très bon.
Mais j'ai besoin que ça marche, encore plus maintenant que je me tiens devant Olivia, réalisant ce que le passé m'a pris. Des choses se sont produites, et même si elles ne me plaisent pas, je n'ai rien pu faire pour changer ce qui s'est déjà passé. Mais je peux faire mieux maintenant, si Olivia me le permet.
Il y a tellement de promesses sur le bout de ma langue, tellement de choses que je voudrais offrir à ma fille pour qu'elle ne me déteste plus, mais je ne le fais pas.
Je ne peux pas.
Chaque mot qui sort de ma bouche semble la pousser à me mépriser encore plus. Isabella s'en sort bien mieux que moi.
Même si je ne suis pas sûr que ce soit la vraie raison pour laquelle je ne peux pas la quitter des yeux.

Best friends Isabella and Olivia joined her father, Elijah, who had invited Olivia to Laucala Island. She had been in a car accident and he thought it would help her to get away and relax. A Little Taboo Secret
It’s a losing battle for Isabella & Elijah to deny their strong attraction towards each other. It feels so right to be in each other's arms even though there is an age gap but what will his daughter, Olivia say when she finds out her father is having a fling with her best friend while on a tropical island? While Olivia is getting over her break-up & getting involved with a new guy on the island, instead of reaching out to her dad to mend their relationship, Isabella & Elijah keep meeting secretly & it feels so exhilarating to sneak around, finding those secret locations where they can have those romantically hot moments in each other’s arms. When they leave the tropical island, will they be able to end this whirlwind romance or will they be able to admit their feelings to the world & have their HEA?
An enjoyable story where a brooding divorced billionaire dad not really interested in a romantic relationship feels a flicker of life when he first meets Isabella. The heat they feel towards each other, ignites into an inferno, to the point where they can't keep their hands off each other. I would rate this novel as a 4+ stars.

This is a lovely story about Isabella and Elijah. They meet when he has had almost no contact with his daughter for years and after the insistence of his ex he tries to contact Olivia again because her relationship has just broken down and she has to go away for a while, she does want to come, but only if Isabella comes along. Once on a trip to Bali, Olivia goes crazy leaving her father with Isabella and the more they stay together, feelings begin to spread and they eventually give in to them. The storyline and build-up is great and the characters are perfect. But what happens when Olivia finds out that her best friend had a relationship with her father and they broke up again for fear of the relationship she has with her and her father tries to rebuild a relationship. Are you curious about the answers and whether they might come back together or not? Then I advise you to read this book yourself, it is well worth it, you will not regret it.

Father daughter reconciliation with a twist!
I really liked this book! Olivia and Isabella are best friends. Olivia is estranged from her dad, Elijah, and he wants to reconcile so he can be in her life. He invites Olivia on a tropical vacation to talk and spend time together. However, she won't go without her best friend Isabella, that is how Isabella and Elijah meet. Olivia meets a man while on the island leaving Elijah and Isabella spending a lot of time together. I agree with them both about the magnetic pull that they have. They have a night of passion and agree it won't happen again but they can't stay away from one another. I love that when Olivia finds out she isn't selfish about them being together, she's actually really happy they are together. Book wraps up in a sweet surprise hea.

Elijah was hoping this trip would be a chance to bond with his daughter, but it seems she had other ideas. Sparks fly between Isabelle and Elijah after he saves her from an unwanted advance a drunk guy was making. Its not long after that they stop fighting their attraction. What will his daughter say about them being together? Can they have a future together?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. It's a book that any book lover would enjoy.

I was naughty for one night with my best friend's grumpy dad. It wasn’t supposed to end with this baby bump. He swooped in and protected me one night from the drunken horn dog who tried to get more than I wanted to give. I liked Elijah & Isabella's book. It was an intriguing read. And am voluntarily leaving my review.

I made it about 50% through the book before just giving up. The editing was horrible. It was such a distraction I couldn’t read or become invested in the story line.. to the Author pull this book and send it back to the editor’s so they can do their job right!

I don’t know but, Lisa Ryan’s book was super hard for me to finish, the chemistries wasn’t strong and it’s just an ok book for me.

Grump Daddy is a father dating his daughters best friend romance. The novel did have some interesting twists that sets it apart from other novels in this trope. I did like the strength of Isabella and her work ethic. It was the perfect fit for the “grump”!
