Latest in the Dragon Realm series and my son (12) was not disappointed. He has read all of the others and was looking forward to this final installment but now very sad it has finished. He said it was as action packed as the others and would like it again in paperback to go with his collection. The language is rich and beautiful - I found it quite inspiring in places and glad to go on another adventure with Billy. No spoilers from me but it comes highly recommended.
This was definitely the best one! The ending was perfect. I was hoping in the end that peace would come and every human would have the privilege of having a dragon and every dragon would enjoy the company of a human.

What an ending to the dragon realm series of books. I feel this really rounds up the saga really well, whilst still telling its own story. The last paragraph gives a hope for the future without giving too much away and you feel that the friendships can conquer anything. An uplifting end that makes you know its the end whilst still imagining their lives continuing. I love the characterisation of the friends throughout the whole series and Dylan never fails to make us laugh with his wry observations and Jordan and Lola really develop their own characters too in this story. A great read but I do think you need to have read the rest of the series first for it to have full meaning.
My gosh, what a ride! This is the next and final installment in the first round (for now!). Was definitely worried for my fave children and dragons for a sec... but all was well in the end! I love these kids and their dragons: they're so much fun and they work so well together. I think these books just continue to be absolute brilliance. Here, you've got a new, mystical dragon, kids finding their powers and the true power of friendship and trust.
The children drove me crazy reading this book, they were all so excited by the last in the series having enjoyed the others so much. They would have stayed up all night if I had just continued reading. The story, just like the others, was exciting and immersive and beloved by the children. We are very excited to see what the authors come up with next.
An epic story that I thorughly enjoyed: fast paced and action packed. Even if it's the last in series I loved what I read. I think it can be appreciated by children and adults. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
This is a last hurrah for the Dragon Realm setting as the two worlds are starting to tear apart and bleed into each other. In the 4th book, damage done to the fabric of the universe has seen dragons falling through the holes into the human world. World leaders are most unimpressed by this and have a meeting with the children who seem to have the ability to control these big scary entities.
The adults are not impressed when they find out that the children are not so much "in control" of the dragons, and that the dragons cannot be hobbled, captured or enslaved. I find the writing of the adult characters frustratingly silly, but this is a book for 9 year olds... I just wish it was a little more realistic, because making it so silly feels like talking Down to kids.
There is some real stuff in this book though. There is a dragon leader who organises other dragons under the guiding principle of ending all the humans. There is a real Fascist vibe and a bunch of dragons all shifting to the same colour to show their solidarity against the human race.
As the children quest for access to the Hidden Realm, to see if they can translocate the lost dragon refugees who don't want to be around humans. They seek to summon the spirit of the first dragon who was slain by humans to win her over to their cause, and help them solve the problem of Dragons having been thrown into conflict with humans.
For fans of the series there are a lot of looks back to previous adventures, and a last final goodbye before the Dragon Realm is no more. Goldie the flying pig (which I have always fancied is what you get if you mashup a Gronkle with a Quidditch Snitch) is there supporting the kids and their heart-bonded dragons. The Thunder Clan use their hiding techniques to create a dragon charmed hidden base. There is a last flight over the citrus sea, a last look at the peach trees, and memories of Ling-Fei moving mountains and Dylan being trapped in a tree..
I can see that this is the set up for launching a new series.. that will likely be aimed at a slightly older readership. The story is fun and the characters are diverse. I notice that in this episode there are gender-neutral dragons, which I think is also a really positive step.
I'm sure I'll get around to reading the next series in time, but I have a stonking TBR right now. As I read stuff for younger readers as a palate cleanser between more challenging things I can see this coming back to me in time.
I received an eARC from the publishers through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. It has not affected my opinions.
The final book of the first series of Dragon Realm! (Yes, there are going to be more books!!!! But this is the end of our time with Billy and the gang, noooo) I just love these books - they are a bright spark of colourful fun, a lovely treat to gulp down on a grey afternoon, and DRAGON DESTINY was no different.
The Dragon Realm continues its slow (but dangerous) collapse into the human realm, and now humans and dragons have to learn to live with one another (and deal with things falling from the sky, like mountains...) Unfortunately, not everyone wants to live together - and humans and dragons are trying to control the situation and each other.
That situation felt sadly realistic, but I loved the hope of the children and their dragons trying to work together against all the fear and prejudice and old grudges held by others, and working right in the face of the governments saying they knew best. (Spoiler alert: they really don't.)
We also see the children off on another quest - this time to find a new home for the dragons to ease tensions. Which means finding the first dragon ever to be betrayed by humans, and hoping she'll be amenable to helping. We get to see some very cool new locations on this quest (as someone who can get claustrophobic, that cave was awful!! really cool but *shudders.*)
While the ending certainly wraps up this "Season" of the story (as the first five books are being called) in a satisfying way that leaves the world and children altered, but their story done, there is definitely space for more (which will come!) and also an interesting new world for the next "season" to step into.

'He and his friends were the ones claiming that humans and dragons could live together peacefully, yet here was a dragon destroying Buckingham Palace in a rampage.'
Book five, the finale of this Dragon Realm series, is here - and the stakes are higher than ever! The Dragon Realm has fallen into the Human Realm, world leaders want to capture and exploit the dragons and a dangerous pack of dragons want to remove all humans. Billy and his friends just want peace and dragon friendships like theirs, but they learn this might not be possible:
"... most humans see dragons as something they can tame or claim, not as creatures that they can live alongside.'
Instead they search for a new home for the dragons, which involves invoking the ghost of the first dragon that ever existed, which leads to danger, frustration, adventure, superpowers and a twist that will change the world forever....
Although the Dragon Realm books are packed with action and adventure, my favourite part of Destiny was the beautiful imagery, which included rainbow ghosts and clouds and a neon jungle! I also loved the image of dragons on Hampstead heath and in the ponds!
Ultimately, the heart bond between humans and dragons is key in this finale - as it is throughout the series - and I believe everyone can be inspired by being friends with a creature - even a dragon.
This is a really good book and perfect for adventurous children and adults.
The whole series begins with Billy and friends unlocking the mysterious Dragon Realm. There, they have lots of fun but also danger and anger. In this final instalment in the Dragon Realm series, it is no different. Billy, Ling-Fei, Charlotte, Dylan, Jordan and Lola have been persuading the prime ministers to think that dragons are good, as recently the Dragon Realm has collapsed into the Human Realm, and a dangerous dragon, Flame, is on the loose. I love how brave and how caring the children are, and I always laugh at Midnight.
This is an amazing book, so...100/5 stars! P.s: sadly there is only an option for 5 stars- Goodreads please make the stars unlimited. Sorry for spoilers!
A brilliant wrap up to this fab series! A final adventure with Billy, Spark and all of their human and dragon friends. Messages of friendship and kindness are seamlessly woven into this series and I love it. There are new baddies and plenty of action across the realms as they fight to bring humans and dragons together!
I enjoyed the idea of this book but this book didn't need to exist. The world was wrapped up nicely. Also they were stretching things way too far in this book. It's like the authors were trying way too hard.
Tsang Song #5 Dragon Realm #5 Well the end of the series, although there is a return some time later, and there is a Book Day novella, but again, it was fine for what it was, younger readers will enjoy more, not a terrible book by any means, but a decent old read.
This is a wonderful finale to Billy's adventures in the world of dragons: fast-paced, vibrant, chock-full of draconic goodness and fun. I have to admit, those last pages got me a little emotional! It's very strange to say goodbye to these charming characters (even though we all know they'll be back in the sequel hahah). A really great book to finish the series on.
It was a decent enough ending to the series, much better than Dragon Rising, however I don't think it reached the heights of Dragon City, which remains my favourite out of them all. The same pros and cons of the previous instalments can be seen in this one as well so I won't elaborate on them.
Edit: One thing that I've forgotten to include in any of these reviews, especially the later ones, are the opening chapters of each book. I like them and the idea as a whole, and I think the authors use it very well. I may have been critical of the series at times, but I thought to end it on a positive note. And no, I will not be doing a DRAGON-O-METER on either Flame or Glorious Old. I'm tired.
