Paradigm 2045 #3

Omandi's Daemon

Rate this book
The thrilling conclusion of Robert W. Ross’ best selling Paradigm 2045 trilogy!

Bladerunner and a grievously wounded Charlotte Omandi have escaped from Drac’ath, while also having assured Earth’s survival, by gaining its admission into the Galactic Confederation.

Omandi and her crew regroup with their Phadex allies on the hidden refuge planet, Rulia. While there, a long awaited message is unlocked and delivered by Rulia’s lost founder, Talus. It sets off a string of unlikely events that brings Charlotte into a shadowy world of assassins. Meanwhile, Linnea Sorenson travels to the legendary planet Aluria, where strange magics are rumored to exist...magics that can only be unlocked by the young telepath.

Rejoin Charlotte and all your favorites as they seek new allies including the enigmatic Leas-ceyln Mott, an Eridani so feared, the Elevated would commit planetary genocide rather than allow her free reign.

Throughout it all, Omandi struggles to stay true to her ideals, even as the entire Galaxy seems bent on Humanity’s destruction. In the midst of such trials and tribulations, she must also contend with Thomas Rogers, the young half-human, half-Eridani, who has awoken something in Charlotte she never thought to find among the stars.

As the Paradigm 2045 saga hurtles toward its exciting conclusion, it becomes clear to everyone aboard the Bladerunner, that their ultimate success may rest with…Omandi’s Daemon.

Like RW Ross Sentinels of Creation series, I liked each subsequent book less and less. This was a pointless travel book without a resolution and which brought an unsatisfying end to this trilogy. But, not to worry, you will be able to finish the story in some as of yet unwritten series. Before the end of this book I told myself I would not continue this series if it didn't end and that holds true. I stopped the Sentinels of Creation series because I liked each book less than the previous one only to find out the author intertwined the two series into one. I will save myself some time and not start the next series.

I use ratings to decide which books I am going to buy, and I recently decided I am partially responsible for inflating the ratings on books. Either they were 5 star or 1 star. I decided to use the star rating more objectively as follows:

★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will).
★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this.
★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad.
★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time?
★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.

great ending

Robert has given us another great end to his series. I love the banter the characters have with each other. This book had me on edge of me seat many more times throughout it. I can’t wait to see what is next to the crew and some other characters that may show up from another series of his. ;) I hope you all enjoy this book and ending as much as I did. This has been a great ride for me. Thank you Robert for this amazing series and looking forward to what other books are yet to come.

While Charlotte Omandi has escaped from the Drac’ath, she is by no means finished. Nearly fatally wounded, Omandi recovers on the planet Rulia. She and the crew of Bladerunner expect to recover from their latest mission only to discover there is another deadly threat that Omandi and her team must face head-on. They encounter assassins, a mantle of power, and are forced to participate in various trials and tribulations.

Robert W. Ross, the author, is a masterful storyteller captivating his audience with incredible characters and storylines peppered with rich plot twists. His talent for weaving a story to include several different themes is remarkable. There are several subtle themes throughout the book that include topics such as romance, familial relationships, religion, gender, race, and more. The relationships are multifaceted and complex yet are written with clarity and ease.

It is not enough that Ross identifies and builds Charlotte as a strong female leader through her actions, but he reinforces it in a unique and entertaining manner through dialog between Charlotte and Edmund. Another female character, Linnea, demonstrates her strength when she encounters a mantle of power, a mummy, a deadly decision, and love. The male-female relationships are refreshingly egalitarian, with each supporting the other as needs dictate.

There are several things I enjoy about this book. One thing I feel is essential for readers to know before investing in this series is that Robert Ross does not take his character's fate with gratuitous intent. Meaning he doesn’t just put them in harm’s way or give them riches or death because it’s expected. Rather he builds them slowly and with deliberate care demonstrating not only how much he cares for them, but how much he knows his audience wants to connect with the characters. He is the same with this storyline and plot twists, they are not flippant but rather well structured and executed perfectly.

I highly recommend this book and the series with great enthusiasm. Once you start, you will not be able to put the book down.

Looking forward to reading more by Robert W. Ross!

Lost interest at the beginning, not for me

I enjoyed the first book in the series and somewhat enjoyed the second book in the series. When it came to this book I can honestly say I found this book hard to listen to because I lost interest in it. The cat jokes, communist references, religious references and a captain who reminded me of Kirk put me off because they took away from the story for me. I found myself losing interest in it and I began listening/reading for an hour a day to get through the book. I wasn’t surprised by any part of the book. As I said in my reviews of the other books in the series I saw the parallels between the confederation and our world with all events happening now. Based on how this book ended the series is wide open for more books. However, I don’t see myself at this time reading the next book in the series. It just wasn’t for me.

Well then

That was a fun ride and a well deserved respite for the crew of the Bladerunner. Looking forward to what most likely be another trilogy as the crew bends time and space with help from a Junior Sentinel.

i can also use the break from this author. I crammed both series in less than two months, and there's only so much god fluff i was willing to tolerate in such a short period of time. This heathen prefers his sci-fi hard, and the mystical mumbo-jumbo reserved for the realm of fantasy, and preferably in short supply. That said, Ross' writing and story telling is so good, that i managed to nearly ignore the woowoo, and get lost in the universe he was creating. I have added Robert Ross to my short list of favorite authors.

Really enjoyed this series. I feel like there were definite nods to a variety of sci fi and even superhero stories I've enjoyed in the past, but not clear rip-offs in anyway. More just like parallels, or different-spins.

Decided I enjoyed this series so much, especially with the awesome narrator, that I jumped right into Robert's other series (which it sounds like could dovetail into this).

Loved the story from start to end. The author brought this space faring adventure to life with lots of action, interesting yet quirky characters, humor, intergalactic politics, faith, death and everything in between. I wish Charlotte got the ending and person she needed...

I'm listening to the Audible edition, which is not available in Goodreads. Will need to switch this when available. This book was slower paced than the previous two books, but still very enjoyable. A recommended series.
