The title of this trilogy was the best part of these books. I felt the writing style was more middle grade, and I could not connect with the characters. The Magick system was all over the place and hard to follow. I found the books fell flat for me.
I look forward to this series continuing. Along w tibias of true Magick The levels remind of another book 📚 I have read that talks about The Lords of Karma. Hope to see book soon. Cherie wife of Stanley
Story flowed well and quickly. Some twists, and turns, not too predictable. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. Not gory, not preachy, not religious, was uplifting.
Good thing I like far out fantasy. This definitely fits that idea. Its a complicated technical story that is sometimes hard to follow. A lot of mind-blowing. Three stars is generous, the Constant foul, and unnecessary, language is a big put off. The constant usage of the F word is off setting, but the numerous "Jeeze" and the rest of the Lords name thrown in are unnecessary. The mildest multiple cuss word is shit. I don't feel I'll be following this series. I finished these three books because that's what I do. My friend deleted it after the first few pages!
I read to escape. To be entertained. So when the news comes that the money-grabbing wealthy in this 'world' are willing to do anything to make more, I'm only reminded of the high-jinks going on in our reality.
Also, there is way too much explaining/description to the point it gets confusing. Since there's basically no closure for each book, I would guess all of them will be the same and that is not incentive for me to continue the series. I have the second box set but we'll see if I ever read it...
The storyline is unique! The use of chakras and their power will intrigue mature practitioners of the esoterics. The constant action will keep younger audiences riveted! If there is a down side, it's that character development could be more expanded on because there are worlds within worlds and interesting beings that are introduced. I bought the 3 book set and finished it in less than twenty four hours! Magick comes alive in this series! I have purchased the next set of books because Steven Atchison does not disappoint!
The ending was too abrupt! The stories share about things each of us can do to help the growth of our evolution as well as help me to see, not clearly, that some of my former conceptions have been so far from accurate that "A nickel would never equal two cents" even with the current inflation. The author is someone whom I plan to follow. Now, I just wish it would be possible to find out what happens next.
I really like the overall concept of the story. Blending the magick with real-time social, economic, and spiritual concerns is done in such a manner as to be very intriguing and engaging. Character development could use some work, maybe more time and details put into these "power ups" that one of the main characters is experiencing continually... But I'm interested to see where it all heads.
This series includes a bit of what I’d call sci-fi, mixing in a scientific sort of twist to the usual paranormal fiction. Of course, there is the classic battle of good versus evil. Some thinking is required, or at least it was for me. But I thoroughly enjoyed the first 3 books. Looking forward to the next one.
Great books! My daughter recently went to school in Scotland so it was great to read about the same places she talked about. I also loved how it was tied in with modern times. For example the virus. Bitcoin, the problems with the media. Right now I'm looking for more. Very accomplished writer who makes you want to keep reading and never put the book down.
This was my first time reading one of Stevens books. I was pleasantly surprised with the contents. Not only was it great to read about Magick in Scotland, it was great he helped to set the story in areas of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Jessica and David are an unlikely couple looking to find a way to stop earth devolving.
different witchery with a conspiracy theory backdrop
parts of the cell very interesting as it brings in a whole new possibility of magic. However, there is so much political conspiracy theory woven in and out. It’s a wee bit absurd. The writing is OKay, but not great. lots of space filling crap. I read these three books, but I’m not going on in the series
I am always intrigued with how authors manufacture novels from a germ of an idea to whole worlds of fantasy. I can't wait to read the next books in the series. It has been intriguing so far, and I look forward to seeing how the story develops and progresses. Very appealing heroes and heroines, dastardly villains, and fantastical otherworldly beings.
This box set is a very interesting first three books in the series, with a little different take on magic. The author introduces a rather large cast of characters, and weaves his stories such as to include some current events of the world. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Fantastic, I will buy, reread, and read again. Thanks you for the beginning of a wonderful tale. Love, Magick ,adventure all await as you travel through the beginning of a young man's tale of awakening as a wizard. The ups and downs of learning and discovering one's self, then love. Can't wait to finish the series.
I have enjoyed the series very much. I was looking for some type of urban fantasy after I had completed all of the urban fantasy series that I have been reading. I found this particular series, the witches of Scotland on the Goodreads board and I have been impressed with the storytelling at the depth of characters.
I have found this 3 book series to be quite intriguing. The books held my attention and have something to think about as I read them. Would like to see a continuation of the series. 💖
I have read this book and giving my honest review. A new author. Not my usual book about witches etc. got into the book after chapter 2. A-lot going on. Left on a cliff hanger. Hoping you enjoy also.
I like the magic of the book. Just an ordinary guy. Or is he? I think we all want to be 'more'. This time th e people are in more ways than 1. Most people who enjoy modern day mystical would enjoy this series. On to find the. next to complete the series.
I enjoyed this first three books on the witches of Scotland. The characters were interesting, and the plot had its twists and turns I’m looking forward to the next book set.
A new twist to the whole power of witches and warlocks. Married with corrupt big businesses and pharmaceutical companies makes for an interesting read. Enjoyed this series and it does make you think outside the box.
There is soo much real world mixed in with this world that it keeps you reading . You hey to a point where this real world theory hits you and you are taken aback by it. Worthy read for sure!
Fairly well written books. Subject is interesting but a little excessive and repetitive in the explanations though some are pretty good examples. So far all-in-all an interesting series to make you thoughtful with a little fun, romance and mystery thrown in
