Respawn #2

Respawn: Lovers Lost

Rate this book
The System is generous. Not with presents, but with predicaments.
Cheater now has a straightforward goal, or so it seems to him. To everyone else, his endeavor sounds suicidal for a high-level veteran, never mind a newcomer whose intellect is still shackled by the System.
Cheater sees only one way forward: develop his skills, conquer monsters, and become stronger, faster, wiser, and more fearsome with each passing day. Until he makes progress on his own capabilities, he cannot hope to achieve anything else.
But the System has intentions of its own. Namely, to hit Cheater every step of the way with unforeseen, unpleasant refutations of his noble plans.

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Now, since I have to keep explaining myself to people who don't like my reviews, I guess some clarification is in order.

1. I am 100% against criticism for works of art. Art is subjective, meaning reviews are irrelevant. The observer's opinion is only relevant to the observer. It is my belief that regardless of what others might say, I have to experience the art for myself.

2. I read upwards of 20 books a month. The $10/month I spend on K U, feels like I am cheating the authors. But since I can't afford 20 books a month if I were to purchase them directly, all I can offer is a positive review. That leads us to the final point.

3. If I get to the end of a book, then it was worth my time. I give those books 5 stars because it helps the author get exposure. That is the only reason I write reviews at all.

I understand that people are people and they are going to do what they do regardless of my stance. I know the way that I review books upsets some people. I am sorry they feel that way but as many have said, they will just ignore my review going forward. In fact, if you made it this far through my review, you should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews here. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

Better than book 1 because it dumps that appalling woman but the protagonist just mopes about her during volume 2. I still don't get the point of this series, which is a retread of the superior HumanHIVE STYX books.

Book two

Mistakes: I found seven wrong words used scattered throughout the book.
Plot: New region. New enemies. Time to level up.
Characters: I found the Mc much more enjoyable than I did in book one.

Lovers Lost (Respawn, #2) by Arthur Stone:

With this novel, Stone further explores the complexities of life, love, and destiny, delivering a compelling and emotionally resonant narrative that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Stone's writing style remains engaging and evocative, with vivid descriptions and well-crafted prose that draw readers deeper into the world of Lovers Lost.

In this book, readers continue to follow the protagonist as they navigate the challenges of successive lives, each one presenting new trials, relationships, and revelations. As the protagonist grapples with the memories of past incarnations and the echoes of lost loves, they must confront their own desires, fears, and regrets.

The world-building in this installment is expanded upon, with Stone delving deeper into the rules and mechanics governing the cycle of reincarnation, as well as the larger setting in which the story takes place.

I've just finished the entire Respawn series, books 1-6 and I really enjoyed them. I listened to the audiobook while I was at work and found the entire idea of a character having multiple lives VERY interesting! Every time our character Rock/Rocky/Cheater died he would learn from his mistakes and always make his death come at a cost to his enemies. I really wish the book had continued into a 7th book, there are so many places this story could go however I understand why it didn't because this isn't the sort of story that could really end anywhere. Thanks very much Arthur Stone for writing something so interesting!(I'll copy and paste this review on all 6 books.)

A fun, though short continuation of a very good story!

Love the premise and world of this series and so far, they have been a very good read. With the coming of the 2nd book, we can see Rocky start to get his game on a bit - which is a blast ;) - though this books sure felt a LOT shorter taking just an afternoon to read instead of a day. Still looking forward to the next in the series!

Second volume in the STYX/Continent series.

It's what is expected. Cheater - the new, more descriptive and appropriate, name of "Rocky" - progresses while separated from the feminine interest introduced previously. All the usual tropes of the russian litrpg appropriate for the settings are followed, shit happens, and so on.

It is a good and reasonably solid, if not very exceptional, series.

Finally lvl 10!

It took awhile but Cheater hit lvl 10. Did he find his lost love along the way? You could say he found some good stuff. It was a great book. I NEED to know what the System is. I could guess but I could also read the next book LOL.

I’m liking it

At first I wasn’t sure. It’s not D&D LitRPG so it took some time to get my head around it. But the first book got my attention, and I wasn’t sure I’d continue liking it, but I do.
Guess I’ll try the next one also.
You might like it.

A thousand times better than the first, but writing flaws are super annoying. Author occasionally gets his books confused, mentions random "styx" references that have absolutely no context. pretty frustrating

Much shorter than the first one. Another litrpg series where the books don't have a plot, but on the whole the plot moves slowly forward in the series. Makes reading any one book not that gratifying. Otherwise well written, good characters, dialogue is good, and good action.

Odd but good

I find this series a bit hard to like but I do like it. I think it's interesting and I'm placing to read the third book but... I can't even day what the issue is. On top the next book

Very pleased and waiting for the third part and beyond. And I hate the twenty word minimum by amazon. So tiresome.

Similar flaws as the first one though not as pronounced. Hard to say if that's because of improvement or if the character just didn't end up in the same situations.
Though I do appreciate that this series doesn't lean as heavily into stat sheets and system messages as some LitRPG novels, it would be nice if there was a bit more of that kind of thing. Sometimes it's hard to say if the book even really counts as LitRPG because the rpg elements are so neglected.

Great books!

I love these books, I just wish it hadn't taken me so long to decide to read them. The low rating on book one had me fooled, but this series is one of the best examples of the genre I've read.
