Ruby wants to escape her old life and moves to some town where nobody knows her name or who she is. The local cult ends up wanting to kill her as a sacrifice, but only moments before her death she strikes a deal with the summoned demon.

Z, who has been caged for the last decades, isn't the most pleasant coeval to be around after being freed. The demon is a succubus and therefore you can imagine what kind of payment he's got in mind.


You can expect lots of spice from this read (i'd say around 70/30 spice/plot). Forced proximity, enemies to lovers, genderswapping-demon are the main things to expect.

Overall a quick to read novella that was fun, but nothing special.

We get cult, sacrifice, demons who have abnormally large appendages and really enjoy a rough - ROUGH - play date.

Overall a pretty enjoyable book. It's exactly as advertised - a sweet, short, smutty demon romance. And the added gender shifting was a surprising addition I loved. It just needs a bit more proofreading.

A decent story but lots of errors

Well, the basic premise of this story was good - innocent girl gets sacrificed to demon incubus by wacko cult, but falls for said demon in between forceful ravaging. That was about the most positive part. The beginning started out ok but was rushed right into the kidnapping and sacrifice. From there if kind of spiraled downhill. While the ravaging bits were pretty intense, the rest of the story fell to very, very poor editing and huge gaps and jumps in the plot. Things happened that had no explanation and there were places where it seemed as if an entire chapter was missing because it jumped from point A to point C - even point D. It was a quick read but I'm glad it was on KU because I was enormously disappointed and left wishing it had been properly edited and fleshed out. My rating is about a 2.5 and that's being generous.

The dedication said it perfectly, this book is all vibes. This novella would definitely be a great spooky season read. Ruby is all alone now that her sister died and she wants a fresh start. She moves from the big city to an eerie little town. Being drugged and kidnapped was not the new beginnings Ruby was looking for and she isn't ready to die. Z is an incubus that has been trapped in this spooky little town. When he is summoned by the cities cult and gifted a sacrifice it is his chance to be free. The gorgeous human female is on the brink of death so he makes a deal with her. Ruby was a very relatable character. She has been through so much loss and is just existing. Although she never really believed in the paranormal it still fascinated her. When meeting a demon she is scared but she also feels excitement for the first time in a long time. Ruby doesn't know much about the sex demon but she feels an intense pull to him. Z is a demon that is excited to take advantage of the willing human female before he returns home to the underworld. He shouldn't care if he hurts her or if he will never see her again. That's not in his nature but yet he can't help imagine what it would be like to keep Ruby. I really loved the back and forth between these two. The tension, banter, and spice were so good. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who likes books with a feisty stubborn FMC, rough sex, macabre vibes, revenge and a gender changing incubus.

After her sister’s death, Ruby decides to leave the big city and move to a small one. However, when she gets there, Ruby realizes there’s something strange going on in the place. Since she is fond of the dark and somber things, she doesn’t bother going away. Everything is fine until it isn’t.


One day she is captured by a cult which intends sell her soul to a demon. The demon they summon up is called Z and he is an incubus who decides to make a deal with Ruby instead. He will save her from death, but he wants something in return. Do I have to say what? Tip: he is an incubus…


Anyway, I am no expert in monster romance and started reading it without previous notions. It was less dark and more romantic than I expected. I enjoyed the reading and if you are a fan of this kind of romance or want to read something different, grab this one. It’s free on KU.

This wasn't my favorite read, but also I don't really know why.
There was nothing that really stood out as bad or not gripping. The writing was decent, the smut was very readable and the plot a fun twist to it. But for some reason I just didn't enjoy it.
It left me feeling kind of BLEH.
And the only thing i can attribute it to is the characterisation. Nothing made me like them and nothing made me dislike them. At least if they were bad it would have made me feel SOMETHING! But instead, i got nada.
If your a big demon fan this might be more your thing. But it just left me feeling a little cold, potentially at no real fault of the book, but also maybe could use a little more interest in the characters.

All Elle Mae books have a five star for me so obviously!!!
She's my fave sapphic author btw, and I've been dying to get my hand on this book for ages. I think I've read all her other books so I was super happy when I got this one.

Tbh, I didn't really expect the story line. It wasn't exactly sapphic, actually it was between a man and a woman, and I think one time the man transformed to a woman.
Also, it's just really smut with tiny plot, but I still liked it a bit.

Not my favorite of her books, but alright.

Short and intense

3 stars for this story. I like the premise, the execution but the grammar was poor. This needs a re edit rather badly. Lots of very awkward sentences and dangling participles (no pun intended). I’m sure some will call me a grammar fiend, but in this day and age, there is no excuse for poor writing.

I loved the fucking demon. Just the idea that it can change its gender and that it technically isn't a man, it just made it better. If it was a male demon, only, I think I would've hated it.
