The tower has fallen. Banners fly. War brews in the rubble.

Felix Nevarre, slayer of the Ravager King and destroyer of Domains, isn't going down without a fight. The Guild Tower has fallen, and Haarwatch has been split into factions vying for supremacy, and the people despair as monsters overrun the city.

Bloody battle is waged through the streets, but Felix’s power has grown—his core stuffed full with the spoils of his victory—and he's looking to put it to use. When the Inquisition advances its grip on the city and waves of monsters attack, he pushes back.

A new faction rises, gathering beneath Felix's banner those that are too weak for the Guilders, or too faithless for the Redcloaks. The goal of this faction isn’t domination, but survival. In their midst, a dangerous idea begins to brew. It sings in the Spirit and ignites the Mind, while the Body trembles with bated breath. A blue flame blazes away in the hearts of the fearful, leaving behind only hope…

And Fury.

This book has the same problem as the previous books in the series. For the first 1/4 of the book I thought there was some improvement. Things slowed down a little bit and there was more time for at least a little training and learning more about the world. Then everything reverted back to the way it was in the previous books. Non stop action. One fight leading to another fight leading to another fight. The first fight is almost impossible and then it keeps on getting more difficult from there. I listened to the audiobook and it was about 8 hours of non stop combat. There has to be more balance. Every fight can't be that intense, it is too draining to the reader. I get tired of hearing about how all choices having consequences but Felix has to make life altering choices with no preparation or information about anything. It is like having a 5 year old make decisions about foreign policy and telling him later it was his choice and he needs to suffer the consequences of his flawed decision. The world building is still not good. I have no idea why Felix was brought to the world. Zarra seems to know something but wont say what or why. She just makes comments about how she cannot affect his choices. Whose side is she on though. There are the primordial and the old gods but I have no clue what they want beside power. There is just way to much going on without any information about why. There are parts that I really like and wish they could explore more in those areas but the rest make this just a mediocre book. I will probably continue the series but I can understand if other people would drop it. There are times I was getting really frustrated while listening and wish the story would just progress.

Bloated.

That best describes this book. Take out the system notices and you would cut out a quarter of it. There is still barely any story. The hints of bigger things are boring, the time to begin filling in the clues has long past. The MC is still a sheep when dealing with other characters, for someone suppose to defy fate and the gods, that is just silly.

There's a whole lot of action and progression in this, and even with all of that happening... all I can seem to focus on is whether or not Felix finally gets a clue about his feelings for Vess! What an idiot. A lovable idiot, but an idiot nonetheless.

A great story ruined by garbage

You know when there's this wonderful story, but the author keeps doing really annoying and dumb things to pad the pages and artificially increase unneeded drama? Yeah. That's how this series turns out.

-Constant character POV switches
-Too many characters that dilute meaningful relationships.
-No character growth, with MC or side characters
-Over the top, irrational bad guys feels like Saturday morning cartoons.
-Constant shouting of abilities
-Info and stat dumps aplenty
-Secret plot armor because the author can't think past the basic plot
-Too many abilities to keep track of
-Editing needs alot of work (first typo on page 13)

Sadly a truly unique and fun story is ultimately ruined by either an incompetent or greedy author with a poor editing team.

good book, still too wordy. Needs to be tightened up quite a bit.

Good story, plenty of things going on. Maybe too many characters, and too many action sequences that go on chapter after chapter. Still don’t like the fact that the MC is used as a pin cushion, and for quite a bit of the book a one trick pony. There are so many characters in the book that in my opinion, the book strays from the MC quite a bit. But it’s enjoyable. I will probably read the next one.

Weakest so far. Very forgettable. Had me turn my brain off for hours of the book. Missed key pieces of information because there was no actual buildup. It all felt the very same. Very mundane book.

The characters after 4 books I've no love for any of them. There is no real coolness to Felix. All he does is constantly struggle to understand what his gift is. It's boring. Get it over with and finally move the plot forward.

I barely remember the names of others characters. The enemies are goofy. It's all comes together to form a story that I simply cannot take very seriously.

I was looking for brain dead progression and this was a good start but eventually the lack of substance has worn on me. I will probably forever forget about this book unless I come across a raving review of this series in years to come praising books 4-7 as absolute masterpieces.

meh

The scale of the the magic system isn’t proportional. He can face gods and primordials but struggles with normal people tiered above him. To make it worst the magic is boring now. 4 books in and he is essentially using the same ability he did at the beginning. What happened to the curious and intelligent person that learned cloud step from watching . The author is trumping up a boring set of abilities with all the glamour of stats and levels. To make it worst the fun brilliance the MC had is lost and he is now just a emotionally wrecked brute. His fighting is essentially flash some lightning (he can barley control) and punch things with glowing fist. The cool aspect of eating and gaining abilities is absent.

good story but needs a diet

This first book in this series was good. Very entertaining well written. With every book after the author introduces more and more characters along with further complexity, much of which does little to advance the story. This last volume has so many POV changes it should come with a may cause seizure warning. The last third of the book is one giant running battle and we see it through the rapidly changing eyes of about six different people. While some of them are interesting and do flesh out some details I think the book would be better without much of the extra weight.

Aggravating

These books are absurdly ,over the the top, feminist.
Virtually All the leaders and powerful or special characters are female. Like 9 out of 10 people in books are female. The men are almost all just fodder or unimportant or bad men. Grand, aster Heirophant, leader of the whole continent basically, female, master Dragoon and next leader, females. Heir to thrones, females. Top alchemist, inscriptions, archivist, healer, herbalist, etc, all females. And more. It's simply absurd.

Needs more story progression

Overall, it’s a pretty interesting story, but the majority of it is Felix with his inner turmoil or fights. It’s still good, but very little happens in the story itself. There’s next to no character development in the traditional sense, even though everyone levels up. You have no idea why the hand doesn’t like Felix or what anyone is feeling. You just have fighting.

Boy, this author is putting these characters through the ringer. The fight scenes are epic and just long in this one. I think they did more fighting than anything else. A lot of Felix’s enemies got eighty-sixed in this one and some cool new powers were introduced. More mysteries still about.

This book was just quite dull and bloated. There was a lot of stat & skill sheets and constant battles with little to no down time. There’s no time to breathe, characters aren’t given any moments to make any meaningful connections either. I probably won’t continue with this series.

There is only so much anyone can take, when would you say Enough?

Felix has been in constant state of survival since being pulled into this world. He’s had to hide what he is, what he can do and where he’s from for too long. He’s finally going to open up to his closest friends and share some of the truth.
Meanwhile the Archon’s plan for Haarwatch proceeds without anyone the wiser. Soon all hell will break loose within the city and Felix and Pit won’t survive as they are. Running from one fight or struggle to another is wearing Felix down, but as more and more people get behind his “Fiend” persona he begins to find that connections run deeper than anyone had said. Because power is everywhere if you are strong enough to take it and keep it.
Control of Haarwatch as well as it’s citizens lives are at stake as beasts attack from the former Foglands, while within the city the zealots of purity sabotage the wall, citizens of the city hide in fear, and the Guild that protects it all faces annihilation as the Archon’s minions arrive with an augmented force for the final confrontation. This city and its inhabitants will never be the same, if they survive at all.

not bad, but no as good as the other books

This book was only okay when compared to the other books in the series. The overall writing was good, but there were a few noticeable issues.

1) The battles were way too long. Way too much dialogue.
2) The main character needs some new tricks. Given that he can learn any skill easily, it’s pretty ridiculous that he doesn’t have a single strong magic attack.
4) There were some things that just didn’t make sense when it comes to the last boss fight.

Much of the story is chaotic. Felix gains mastery and levels at such a pace that it's hard to keep up. There's no ebb and flow to the music - it's all crescendo.

4.5 stars. The team is evolving along with Felix, and plenty of time was spent in their POVs. I am happy to be reading a series in this genre, which isn't just one dimensional.

I’ve been really disappointed in how little happens in these last two books. It feels like the majority of the book is just descriptions of similar fights that don’t end and Felix struggling to contain power of some kind, the author built a likable and interesting cast of characters in the first book and we barely get to see them interact

Not great but did like some parts in it would of been much better if Atar and Alistair had died eww everytime menchan them skip as fast as can or would stop reading there ruining this story for me.

Changing names of skills makes it hard reneber what do especially when terrible one's like manifestation of corenarch would been much better and easier rember if kept as was that's just one example.

Liked who ended up with the town authority thought that was best choice & made most sense. Also keep on forgetting what adamant discord skill was lol.

Akso I like the stat info and system messages there one of my favorite things in the books.

Travis is an impeccable narrator, as always. However the story suffers from unusual amounts of cringe due to it's mid-combat banter, "Just die", "Stand still", and "You cannot defeat me, just surrender"... I mean for reals? If it was one cringy villain, that's totally fine. But it's every one, the protagonists, everyone is fighting and telling their opponents to "stop"... for reals? Haha it was EXCESSIVE.
Also, every other time Felix uses his magic, "his channels burned and writhed in pain"... like, if that actually caused him to stop using his magic due to overuse, fine. But it just feels like random, nonsense, filler text, especially due to the frequency.

TLDR: I think the author should slow down and focus the story to improve it.

This series is mostly good, but there's something off causing my mind to constantly drift off while reading or generally not caring about what's happening, or more likely it's a bunch of small things or little things done poorly all adding up to a slightly unsatisfactory experience. To be clear I still mostly enjoy the books and is closer to a five star than 3, but still...
So, some of the little things that are adding up:
-There's so much high octane fast paced action and fighting that it loses meaning and gets boring. The first two books had a good balance (though book 2 had other, plot related issues), while the last two (first half of book 3 was okay I guess) have been too much.
-Felix's skills, abilities, magic, etc have been too random and he's had little choice in his build. The randomness might be what bugs me most and I never thought it'd be. His mentors have tried to get him to focus, and he's tried to combine a bunch of the more random ones and evolve them into singular better skills, and he's super duper special in that he can use ANY mana/magic, so it's gotten better, but in the midst of battle he just had too many tools and options, plus not having a focused style makes it harder to picture sometimes or extrapolate the battle (unlike other LitRPG greats, Zac has axes and chains and he charges straight at enemies, Jason has short blades and poisons and attacks from the shadows, Jake has his bow and poisons and is adaptable thanks to his sphere of perception, and so on). Like I said, it's gotten better and doesn't even bother me TOO much, but is a little thing adding to the others.
-The author does a good overall job with characters, their interactions, dynamics, dialogue, development, and such, and I think it'd be nice if he leaned into that more. He does have a tendency of overdoing the evilness of the villains without giving them a single redeemable quality, trait, or whatever.
-There's been minor talk about The Continents past, but almost no hints or talk or anything about the rest of The Continent to instill interest, intrigue, and wonder about the rest of Felix's new world and what else he could explore. There hasn't even been any talk about the easiest way to do this: by talking about Ves's Dad and his country, kingdom, or whatever it is. They say harrwatch is basically just a small outpost to blockade the foglands but no one's talks of anything else.

I'm sure I have more little things that irk me but I've already put too much time into this. I'm still intrigued enough to continue and likely get caught up on the series, cause even a mid tier LitRPG is more enjoyable for me than most other books, it's just disappointing cause the story and author show glimpses of great potential. I think if I could sum up most of my critiques, it'd be for the author to slow down and focus the story.

I'd really like to give this five stars, I really enjoyed it, but...
*spoilers*
The battle for authority was horse shit. Eliza DuFont winning made no fucking sense. And because of that the last 4th of the book was tainted, because it was built on a completely nonsensical foundation. Felix had to have at least, AT LEAST, twice as many contribution point as her, yet because she tapped the last scale with a sword she won? Fucking horse shit. Felix was still the one who destroyed that and all the other scales, the Corresters, probably hundreds of ghouls, and thousands of the lesser ones. Maybe if the book told us that since Felix is an unbound he couldn't win it it would be less maddening, but it made him a challenger? That doesn't make any fucking sense either. Why allow him to challenge if he can't win?

Also another nitpick, the authority wasn't supposed to be able to be used against challengers, but then she was able use it to advance herself to master tier?! Seems like fucking using it against challengers.

Sigh, like I said I loved this book, but man, don't tell me 2+2=7 and then expect me to gloss over it.

Looking forward to the next one.

Can We Have Some Consistency?

Long story short, the writer will write one thing and then 5 pages later what was said couldn’t happen like using a specific power in a fight…is used. Leading to and drawn out fight/battle, that could have been ended two chapters prior. Each book seemingly is getting harder and harder to read , I literally just skip pages if not chapters at this point to get to a point that actually matters for the story or ain’t just fluff or contradictory to what was already written. I hope the next book can salvage it for me, I won’t give it another shot after. Also ENOUGH with the drawn out introspection that really isn’t consistent with the main character.

I really enjoy this series. It is world is fun, I like the powers that the MC has, the story is entertaining and even the side characters are starting to grow on me. That being said, I need to vent because there are many things that have been bothering me.

Webnovels that are converted to books eventually start to show problems and those problems are getting to me with this book. Since chapter one it feels like Felix has been running around nonstop. There is little time to relax, train or develop the characters beyond combat situations.

The villains keep Team Rocketing from book to book. I wish we could move on from certain antagonists. Dufont is super annoying, it doesn’t make any sense how she came to power, she admits she isn’t that strong, and even why the Inquisition let her have a place of authority, which they conveniently try to address too late. Her assassin should have died by now but is still strong enough to be problematic even though Felix could hold his own against her in the first book.

With all of Felix’s stats and titles he should be at least twice as strong as anyone else his level. Maybe that is why he can fight against gods and primordials but then why does he struggle with equivalently tiered individuals at time? His mental battles are overly prolonged and maybe that is his best battlefield because that is where he fights the strongest opponents. All I can visualize is Felix trying to take a massive constipated poop while grunting and groaning the entire time. I wish he could just fight the big bads straight up and win or lose. There is too much deus ex machina with these victories. Since all this has happened twice now, I expect it to happen again. Just like him getting blocked from using his abilities.

Zarra is Dumbledore. On paper she is one of the most powerful people around and could make huge differences to the point some of these storyline wouldn’t exist but she doesn’t do anything. Since other perspectives are used quite a bit, it would be interesting to see others’ stats and skill levels for comparison sake.

I really did enjoy this book and will continue to read the series. The good out weighs the bad.

This book was just as good as the other ones, I honestly think this book was betetr then the previous ones. I think book four might be the best so far. I really enjoyed the pacing in this sequel, and how the sequel concluded.

Travis did amazing with this book, he always does good with his books so it's not surprise to me. This book was performed so well, Travis certainly deserves a 5 star, I'd even give him a 6 if it was possible. Travis fits this book so well it's crazy, even if I tried I couldn't find a better narrator for this book.

I loved how strong he got in this book, one of the main reasons I love this series so much is because of the progression. Nicoli really did good with that.

I also like how he didn't go off with the plot in this book, I feel there was some filler, but overall I felt the story was progressing and we were getting somewhere.

I don't really see a change in characters, I do think Felix has some character development in this book, but most of the side characters are the same.

I'm not gonna go in much detail with the plot, but some of the plot twists in the story are just super good. I honestly really loved the plot in this book, in my opinion it was intriguing and interesting.

Overall, I love this series with a passion. I personally this book is the best in the series so far, and I recommend it with a smile on my face.

Good series! A little convoluted but still enjoyable and exciting.

I really enjoy this series. The biggest complaints are when the pace of the story is lost because the author is trying to tell the story from many different perspectives, using the supporting cast and antagonists. The problem with this is you just dont care about them. The story starts to get convoluted when all these perspectives are thrown at you as the story evolves into a meeting of all parties towards the end of the book. I understand the author is trying to craft the narrative from different views but it's too much in ruins the pace of the novel. There's also some logical issues here where the main character Powers up and yet can never seem to become a better fighter or overcome obstacles simply because every single new obstacle is always worse. Also trouble with overpowered main characters is they start to forget they have certain abilities or conveniently remember at the last moment that a unused skill becomes relevant.. and it starts to become contrite. All that said, I'm still enjoying the series and look forward to seeing where the author takes it.

I love this series. It is insane. The world building, the friendships, enemies, quests, battles, war, all of it. And I also love that it has Gay, Lesbian, and Gay relationships in it.

It is an incredibly long book/series, so if you do not like to read A LOT, don't even try.

Don't start or read this series If you read very slow, or don't like long books/series as this series is around 8,000 pages long, and each book ranges from 500 to 900 pages each. It's its incredible series, but it is not for the faint of heart or the low on time.

SPOILER
Ware all who enter: Felix is Unbound, from Earth, and summoned to the Continent. He is being leveled by the goddess Vellus as well as the Unending Mae who has tampered with him and his skills and race for both good and ill. He will have to sunder his skills to repair himself from the damage the maw has done. Only once he eats her and becomes a Primordial Nym does he truly begin to repair the damage and become something/someone to be feared.

This would be a 3.5 if that was an option. Honestly, if evaluated in comparison to other LitRPGs at this point in length, it would be at least a 4.
Well written, usually a good flow to the author's words, but the story is starting to lag. For the first time in the Unbound series, there were parts I felt like skimming through as signs of issues that have put me off others in the genre have begun showing themselves.
The "mentor" in this hero's journey is also putting me off the book. Without getting into spoiler territory it's hard to explain, but there's a lack of consistency in the character's words and actions that make me think that Gonnella, when writing this book, might have not had a clear vision of where the story was going once this multi-pronged arc is done.
I still like the story enough to read the next, "Threshold," but will take a break between Fury and it in order to get some perspective back.

So much happened!!

Felix, at the end of this book, is a completely different character than he was at the beginning. This change was entirely due to his leveling and evolution as both a Nym as well as Unbound. There were a couple of points, mostly during major battles, that I found the rate of his evolving skills to get confusing, and I had to stop and reread these sections several times to understand what was going on.

I’m excited to see how this story develops. Will we find out exactly who/what the Pathless is? And why did that entity remain when all others left? Is Haarwatch even a part of the Hierocracy any longer? Why do the Initiates all claim that following the Chant is an easy way to power when all evidence points to it being the much more difficult means to attain power?

Solid book but starting to get stale

Really enjoyed this series up to this addition. Still enjoyed this one too, but the overall plot and pacing is starting to drag a little, causing me to take a lot longer to finish this one. I'm not sure how far you can push OP powers but still be clueless and basically helpless to bigger bads? Also, the POV switching was very distracting. I don't mind seeing inside the minds and lives of the character foils, but if you're going to do it, go all in, not just a few pages of "insight" and move on, it just doesn't carry the same meaning and weight (eg. Robert Jordan was one of the best at carrying alt character plots).

All in all still an enjoyable book, but if the next one doesn't pick up the dramatic tension and keeps bouncing randomly between POVs, I may have to move on.

Book four

I found a few mistakes in this book which I will try and post on GoodReads. A couple of them I found were just weird. For the length of the book though it is well written and decently edited.
My major problem with this book is toward the end. His skills are evolving, mid battle without him, doing anything other than needing them to be stronger.
I found this to be a cheap tactic to upgrade your hero without doing anything every other time is it upgrade his needed items or had to do something these skills just upgraded because he needed them.
Character wise, the MC is extremely overpowered so the fights drag out for no reason. He basically could’ve ate everybody.
Overall, I give this book a seven out of 10
