Never tell a lie. Especially not to a cocky CEO who knows exactly how to seduce you. They always come back to bite.
I should have remembered that before I spent the night with Liam Salinger.
In my defense, he’s stupidly attractive and knows it. He also willingly admitted to me that he never sleeps with the same woman twice.
So I shouldn’t feel too bad about lying to him the next morning. We can forget about each other and get on with our lives, right?
Wrong.
We’ve both been chosen as godparents to my best friend’s gorgeous newborn. Which means we’ll be spending a lot of time together, much to our mutual disgust.
And yes, he looks great cradling a tiny baby against his expensively attired chest. Plus he’s funny, irreverent, and weirdly protective toward me.
But I’m not going to fall for his charm. Not a second time.
Carrie Elks is an international bestselling author of traditionally-published and self-published novels. Her books are sweet yet sexy contemporary small town romance stories. You can find her in all these places:
“Never let a man treat you as anything but a princess,” I tell her, my voice rough. “You deserve so much more than what you’ve been given.”
This was a lighthearted and enjoyable read. Sophie & Liam's chemistry was undeniable and it was also nice seeing Ava & Myles with their baby. While I enjoyed the plot, there were some issues I had with the characters. Liam was the only one who was mature in this relationship because Sohpie was careless and always tried to run away from the situations. She didn't even have a proper reason to back why she was so scared to give Liam a chance and her acting like he won't be able to commit all while his actions depicted otherwise annoyed me tbh. The conflict in the end was over dramatized and could've been solved of Sophie just went and talked to Liam tbh. But overall, I genuinely enjoyed this book and I can't wait to get more of The Salinger brothers.
This is the kind of businessman romance I like to read. Like most of the time I forgot that Liam was a multimillionnaire, he acted like a normal man and didn't overuse his powers in every situation and Sophie was perfectly independent. So, I liked that. Also, this book gives off small-town vibes (it was not tho) which I liked too, just like in book one.
I didn't think there'd be a better Salinger brother than Myles but Liam is undoubtedly the BEST. This man is so fine. I liked Sophie too tho she was a bit childish and her hesitation irked me. Anyway, their banter was so good. But I just can't believe that all these people are in their late thirties and early forties. they sound so much younger, especially Sophie.
Carrie Elks' men are so freakin romantic and sweet, I guess I'll try out her other series sometime.
"Step backward,” he urges, whispering in my ear. “Come on, you can do this.” I let him pull me this time. When we get into the hallway he closes my dad’s bedroom door then puts his arm around my shoulders, steering me to the front door. “You’re doing great,” he murmurs. “One foot in front of the other.”
What kind of a guy in his early 40s talks to a woman in her 30s that way even if it's after catching your parents doing the *deed*??💀💀 The start was pretty promising, I was enjoying it until page 130 when Sophie and Liam suddenly gets *intimate* out of nowhere and also Liam apparently falls in love with her by page 150.😂 The reasoning for Sophie lying to Liam was just outright stupid and lame. I thought it was gonna be a major plot twist or smthg but after a while, I already guessed what it was and it was basically nothing lmao. And Sophie is literally in her 30s, why would a grown ass woman cry over confessing a stupid lie infront of a grown ass man.😭 Liam's in his 40s and his character's sweet but also absurd and doesn't go with his age. I don't mind older characters or anything, but they need to act like it lol. The sex scenes were super cringey and the dialogues were corny af.
Another major turn off was the dead ex lover trope. It's just so sad no matter how you pan out the situation. When Liam explained how things went down with his fiancee, it just made me feel bad for the fiancee and it also made me dislike him bcs his reasoning for lying to her and asking to marry is also silly. It makes no sense to make Liam the 'good guy' in that situation. I get that the author was trying to show that Liam and Sophie are endgame but she could've done that without the dead lover trope
Easy, light, and sexy - I devoured this with no trouble! While I enjoyed the first book in this series of interconnected standalones, I liked this one a whole lot more. I was intrigued by the relationship dynamics from the first few pages, and it continued to keep me on my toes the whole way through. Since this hero has been clear that he never spends more than one night with a woman, our heroine is relieved that their drunken night together is sure to keep him away - because she's not sure she'd be able to resist falling for him otherwise. Except... that's not quite how things go for these two, and it was fun to watch this commitment-phobic hero fall head over heels before he even knows it's happening. Add in plenty of spice, just enough family moments to tie the series together, and a playful feel, and this was easy to binge in one sitting.
The story follows Sophie and Liam, two people who wake up together after celebrating a little too hard. While Sophie is attracted to Liam, he's been clear that he is not a relationship guy. So Sophie is almost grateful that they spent the night together, because she doesn't have to worry about him chasing her any longer. Liam also lives out of town, so Sophie will not have to see her best friend's brother-in-law anytime soon. Unfortunately, that all changes when Liam relocates, and he's suddenly back in Sophie's life in a big way. He also doesn't seem to be running scared, and doesn't seem deterred that they've already slept together. Sophie may be off-limits in a variety of ways, but Liam can't seem to make himself stay away. As the two spend more time together, they forge a tentative friendship with the undercurrent of more... after all, what's a little pleasure between friends?
I was a little nervous going into this one, because no strings/friends with benefits relationships are not favorites of mine, so I was pleasantly surprised that this didn't have that kind of vibe for the most part. Liam is the kind of sweet, smitten playboy who is easy to fall for; he's out of his element and trying to figure out how to move forward. I also liked the surprises along the way (no surprise babies, don't worry!), and how they changed the situation between them. This was both tropey fun and also a little unpredictable, which made it perfect for bingeing. It never delves too deep and stays light and sexy the whole way through, which was exactly what I was in the mood for. I also liked that we got some more family moments (but not an overwhelming number of them) to tie the series together and get me excited about future installments featuring Liam's other brothers. All in all, this was just the kind of rom com I was hoping for, so I'm happy to round up to 5 stars.
This is the second or third book I've read recently with the MMC named Liam. Is this just a popular name lately? Anyway...I did enjoy this book, although not as much as the first book. It felt a bit too similar to other things I'd read, but it was still a cute story with enjoyable characters. Some of the dialogs had me cringing instead of swooning, and this is another one of those stories where you want to yell at the characters to tell each other things! I really did enjoy the book overall, though; it was a light, fun, and steamy read. 3.5 stars.
I've liked this author's works so far, so I'll probably continue with this series on Audible or KU!
З першої книги Ліам зачепив мене більше всього, але його книга вийшла трохи слабкішою за першу. Мені не вистачило емоцій між героями, якоїсь драми. Авторка намагалась її закрутити, але цього виявилось замало.
He literally combined their last name together because he didn’t want her to be the only changing her last name when they marry. (This may be a spoiler, sorry!) but he just does things like this throughout the book, just supports her a lot. I love my men in their 40’s. Mature and hot.
The book is okay, the plot isn't anything special or interesting really. Of course I liked the enemies to lovers part, but I didn't like the fact that all of the sudden they were smitten with each other. I feel like the built-up is very important in this situation and this just didn't happen here. In the end there's just not a lot of substance 🤷♀️
Sophie and Liam meet when her best friend and his brother fall in love. He is a rich player and she is looking for more, so they don’t seem compatible at first. They spend one night together and agree not to tell anyone and pretend it never happened. They have to spend more time together when their godson is born and they realise they are still attracted to each other, but are both wary of getting involved. He has had an unconventional childhood and an unusual extended family set up which has made him stay away from relationships. She wants a loving, committed partner and doesn’t think she will find this with Liam. The more time they spend together, the more Liam realises what he is missing in his life and wants to make his relationship with Sophie work, she needs more persuasion. Sophie is also having trouble at work and I loved how Liam was there for he but didn’t take over. I loved Liam’s relationship with his family. This was a great addition to the Salinger series.
The story of Sophie & Liam, bff and brother of the 1st book’s couple, is a very enjoyable frenemies-to-lovers romance story.
The pace was great, had me hooked from the beginning till the end and you don’t have to read the first one to enjoy it but I would suggest you do because it’s easier to connect with all the supporting characters. I liked the brothers’ relationship and how they were always there for Liam. And I loved Liam, he was really cool. Sophie was nice too but I wish there was some explanation of her hostility towards Liam in the beginning. Just like in the previous book, I once again felt that the transition to realising they can’t stay away from each other wasn’t very smooth. I wanted to know what made Liam fall in love with Sophie and when.
-Dual 1st person POV -Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ -No 3rd act break-up
Overall: 4.25/5 ⭐️ for me and I liked it more than Strictly business.
No offense to the author but either we need to redefine “enemies to lovers” or authors just need to stop forcing it. She disliked him for like 2 chapters and to be completely honest, I don’t know the real reason why.
I feel like they knew nothing about each other so how the hell did they fall in love?
The lie was stupid and the reason confused me.
It was a very easy read and yet, I found myself skimming.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
‘Strictly pleasure’ is the second book in the Salinger brothers series. The main characters in the first book ‘Strictly business’ were Myles Salinger and Ava Quinn. In this story we got to see how Myles’s younger brother Liam and Sophie West (Ava’s best friend) fell in love. We met both in the first book and they were both interesting secondary characters so I was very curious to read their story. And after finishing it I can say that I really liked it!! This story was also told from both POV’s and again the main characters were more mature in age. Liam was forty years old and Sophie was in her late thirties.
From their first meeting there was chemistry between Liam and Sophie, but both had their reasons to ignore it. More so after their one nightstand (which, much to his frustration, Liam couldn’t remember anything about!), where both agreed to never talk about it again and to forget that it had ever happened. But that was easier said than done. Because after that night every time they met they acted more like enemies than friends. But then circumstances forced them to spend more time together. First they both became godparents of Ava and Myles’s child Charlie and then Liam decided to spend more time in Charleston instead of New York and then Liam bought something that Sophie offered on a charity ball for her work. All of this led to Liam and Sophie interacting more, talking more and spending more time together. Both discovered that there was more to the other then they thought. But insecurities are sometimes hard to overcome. Can Liam convince Sophie to give him a chance with her heart?
So yes, Liam was a playboy but he had his reasons for choosing for that lifestyle. He was really a great guy with many good qualities, I really liked him. He was charismatic, social, confident, friendly, intelligent, a hard worker and funny in his own way. A real gentleman, except in business, there he was very ambitious and relentless but also loyal. He was very thoughtful and caring for the people he loved and he felt very protective of Sophie, he encouraged her and helped her when he could and he was very patient when she was having doubts about starting a relationship with him. Just like many of his family members I was surprised by his deep feelings for Sophie. Once he decided that he wanted her, he did everything he could to show it to not only Sophie but everyone around them. She was the one for him. I loved that side of him!!!
If I had to describe Sophie at the beginning of the book, I would have said: a confident, ambitious career woman with a great passion for her work as a meteorologist (you really felt her love for her work, I was a little jealous of it) and also a great friend and daughter. But the more I got to know her the more I realized that she wasn’t so confident when it came to relationships and love. She was very insecure and had major trust issues, so afraid of getting hurt again and her heart broken. I could understand why she was hesitant to open her heart completely to a new relationship but in the end she showed Liam that she was 100% going for their relationship. It was a very romantic and special scene. Liam and Sophie were perfect for each other. There were a few steamy sex scenes in the story and I especially liked the scene where one of their phone conversations got very intense and hot!!!
Just like in the first book, this was an entertaining, well-written story with funny conversations and amusing situations in it but with also a few serious and emotional scenes. It was well balanced between something light but also something serious. Again the story surprised me in little ways, where I thought this would happen that happened and where I thought that would happened this happened. I liked that very much.
We got to see many familiar faces again, there was Myles and Ava with their newborn son Charlie. It was so beautiful to see how they lived their new life as parents. There was Sophie’s father, a great character. We got to see Sophie’s friend Lauren again and got to meet some of Sophie’s colleagues at the television station, they were all great persons except her boss. He was not so nice. It was lovely to Liam’s family again, his mother and his younger brothers.
I can’t wait to read Eli’s story, that’s the next book in this series.
I was a bit apprehensive about this book at first, as sometimes rom-coms don't always hit for me. But to my surprise, it didn't have that vibe throughout most of the story.
Liam, the charming and infatuated playboy, is easy to adore as he navigates unfamiliar territory and tries to find his way forward. The unexpected twists and turns that crop up along the way, (don't worry, no surprise pregnancies!), really added to the story's appeal. It was a delightful balance of cliched, romantic tropes and unpredictable plot elements, making it perfect for a binge-read. The story never got too serious, keeping things light and flirty the entire time, which was exactly what I was craving.
Additionally, the family moments sprinkled throughout (but not overdone) were a great way to tie in the rest of the series and get me excited for the upcoming books featuring Liam's siblings.
Overall, this was the perfect romantic comedy that I was hoping for, and I'm thrilled with the outcome of this book.
I really liked this book. It was a great addition to the series and it's made me really look forward to the next one. The characters were really easy to love, the enemies to lovers plot was done well and not too heavy-handed, and the way the couple approached the relationship was so adult-y and well reasoned.
Both Sophie and Liam had commitment issues but worked through them without creating silly and unnecessary drama (which is sooo often the case in romance novels), and I loved how easily they came together. Their past traumas were explored quite well - not so much that it was a downer on the book, but not brushed over so it had no impact either.
My only issue with the book was that I wasn't so keen on the 3rd act issue with Sophie's job. The mistake she made was certainly an interesting one to watch pan out but I wasn't so keen on other people's reactions to it. It felt a bit too far fetched that lots of people from her workplace would protest that she'd been asked to take a few days off whilst senior management carried out an investigation, as well as covering it in a news segment on the news show they had all walked out of. I also wasn't sure what favour/action Liam called in at the end of the book. It's drawn to attention that he asks his assistant who has PI connections to do something to help, but we don't find out what that help is and I really want to know!
Liam Liam Liam, what a loveable alpha. I loved the connection between Sophie & Liam. They met in book 1 when his brother Myles meets and marries Ava ( Sophie’s bestie ) Liam is a wealthy alpha with a rule of one night only, no repeats, his growing up with a father divorcing over and over gave him a fear of being hurt and the impression love doesn’t last. Sophie is the opposite she wants it all and can’t think of the hurt she’d get from a one night stand as she catches feelings and fears hurt from that. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and Liam seems to infuriate Sophie probs due the the avoided chemistry. Sophie’s boss was a total douche and I loved the fact of Liam defending her and realising she wouldn’t have handled him seeing certain interactions with said boss so not only did he conceal himself he dealt with the boss after she left. I definitely loved his talent style. When Liam realised he loved her he showed her even when we was away jus5 so she knew he had her on his mind.
I didn’t want to put this down till the very end, I absolutely loved it.
I absolutely loved this book.. Liam and Sophie don't seem compatible at first.. after all he never sleeps with a woman more than once and she wants more than that. Liam tries his best to woo Sophie, but is it just because he wants what he can't have when Sophie tries to avoid him at all costs.. which is entertainingly difficult as they are joint godparents to Charlie (Liam's nephew and Sophie's best friend's son). I devoured this story as Liam is so lovable and I so wanted him and Sophie to have their HEA !!
I just love this family and their group of friends. Liam and Sophie were hilarious. They constantly fought and the tension between them was sizzling. The way they somehow kept halving a reason to interact was comical. Sophie made him prove he really was serious and I loved that. I was taken aback by learning why Liam has always steered away from relationships. I didn’t see any of that story coming, it was rough and made me feel a certain way. I enjoyed this story and I’m excited for the next book
Your home or mine?” she asks. “Both are home to me” It’s the truth. Home is where she is. It’s where I want to be 💛
I absolutely devoured this book in a day and I’m not sorry about shirking my responsibilities…just don’t tell my boss, k thanks 😉. This was so so good and had a great mix of banter, tension, laughs and some really steamy scenes. This is book 2 in this series and I thought I loved Myles but I just clearly hadn’t met Liam yet.
Liam is Myles’s brother and Sophie is Ava’s bestie and both are chosen to be godparents of their baby boy. Liam and Sophie had some great frenemies vibes in the first book and just always seemed to be on each other’s last nerve, so to say I was shocked that this started off with them both waking up in Sophie’s bed is an understatement. Sophie is just as surprised at the development because she tells a little lie to Liam to get him to leave and not ever contact her again. Liam however isn’t deterred by her running him off but at the same time can’t get her off his mind. Liam is the perpetual one-night stander and Sophie is not that type of girl so Liam knows he’s going to have to woo her if he stands a chance. And woo he does! I mean if a guy is willing to watch Grey’s Anatomy and send me a lunch buffet at work consider me officially wooed. But beyond that Liam becomes such a simp for Sophie that even his own family doesn’t recognize him and my heart couldn’t have swooned more, now its just a matter of getting Sophie to swoon too.
Like I said I absolutely loved this book!! I seriously couldn’t put it down, it was such a fun, light and easy read and if you’re looking for something like that I highly recommend this! And also check out book 1 even though this can be read as a standalone its worth the read as well. I am so loving this series so far and already cannot wait for book 3 to come out….I’m just plotting out which Salinger brother is next *fingers crossed for Eli*.
Can’t inhale these quick enough. That about sums it up. I knew from the second paragraph Liam was going to be another sexy Salinger. I was right and this was very cute.
