Four stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Another hit from Olivia T. Turner! This bite-sized story is about Dylan, a shifter who's losing control of his bear. His family convinces him to go to an auction to meet a woman and get his mind off not finding a mate. He agrees to go. When he's there, he smells the sweetest scent... his mate.
I thought this was a cute little story. There was plenty of spice!

Short but sweet. I liked it even though there wasn’t much of a plot. It was an easy read to pass some time before I dive back down into the rabbit hole of dark reads.👌🏼😅

Plot: Dylan is losing control of his bear. He needs to find his mate, fast. But, even though he doesn't want to, he thinks that if he finds someone to spend the night with, he might buy a little time. So he goes to an auction that caters to everyone - human, shifter, alien, and when he gets there, he finds his mate, about to be auctioned off.
Commentary: Standard fair if you've read any of OTT's bear shifter stories. The one thing that didn't hit for me was the fact that Dylan was going out to find a woman to spend the night with. I thought that the bears physically could not be with someone other than their mates, not that it was their choice to not be with another woman. I didn't like that his family was so cold and rude to Lucy in the morning when they thought she was a random woman. How would it have been her fault that he betrayed his mate? But then when they found out she was his mate, everything was okay. It's the whole "everyone's a whore but the heroine" gambit, and I'm not a fan. But it was sweet that Dylan did find his mate - and just in time - and Lucy really needed someone to rescue her, so that was good.

El oso de Dylan está completamente descontrolado. A penas lo puede mantener a raya ni siquiera en la boda de su hermano. S tío le advierte que o busca a su compañera o sabe cuál es su final, la ira de Dylan va en aumento... COMO SI NO LO SUPIERA. Así que su tío le dice que vaya a una subasta de mujeres para al menos mantener a su oso distraído. Para él parece algo asqueroso y una perdida de tiempo, pero menuda sorpresa cuando quizás encuentre allí lo que más lleva deseando.
Ha sido tan dulce a su manera que raya lo absurdo. Me ha encantado igualmente para que mentir JAJAJJAJAJA. Como siempre macho alfa, amor a primer olor 😉 y final muy muy feliz. Para pasar el ratito está genial!

short and sweet - would have liked more plot
This book started off with both MCs in dire straits. Lucy was evicted and desperate for money and Dylan was close to becoming feral and needing to be “put down”. They meet at the auction and then everything is kind of rainbows and butterflies. It was sweet, but I would have liked some deep conversations about the stresses of their lives. But, since it was a steamy novella, it was mostly steam.

This is only the second Olivia T Turner book I've read. I'm enjoying this Highest Bidder series. The issues I had with the over the top ness of the other Olivia T Turner book I read felt like it made sense in this book because it was about a shifter and his fated mate.
Apparently I'm just fine with instalove, dual virgins, and OTT/obsessive when it comes to shifters and their fated mates. They are things that just don't fit in my mind very well in normal contemporary books. I loved it in this! I will have to check out more of the author's books about shifters. I enjoy some good smutty novellas in-between longer books.

Lucy & Dylan
I was contemplating if I should really give this Book 1★ but ... I just didn’t like it.
The dude is ... well your stereotypical almost rabid shifter guy in an OTT book, so no surprises there.
But once we get into Lucy's POV it just gets ridiculous. So ridiculous that I probably can't put everything in this review, it's honestly stupid.
She get's the eviction notice and the locks are already changed.
Then they initially don't allow her to get her dog. Then she gets the dog but can't get her stuff.
The Landlord says everything will be on the lawn the next day by 10.
Then she drags the dog into her car. Loses her job on the spot bc her boss called her complaining that she's late for the third time now. Then she oversleeps (even tho she has her phone to set an alarm) and her stuff is already stolen. Including her book with passwords so her bank account and credit card gets maxed out and then, when she gets to take a shower in a public bathroom her car gets stolen and her dog thrown out, who then runs away.
All that within a couple of sentences only to build up her "need" to sell her virginity at this "breeding" auction. It's so god damn overblown.
Oh by the way ... her dog runs off, she calls but then stops caring. Only at the end she enlists the help of Dylan to find her dog again.
He, by the way, is only at that auction because his uncle suggested him to buy a girl to sleep with in order to placate "his bear" because otherwise he would have to be shot. Okay.
How his uncle even has this connection to an underground sex trafficking ring (yes, that’s what it is if you look at the facts) is beyond me. Doesn’t get explained. Ooookay. Sure. Fine. I’ll accept it. Moving on.
See this Auction is a high end bidding war. Meaning a huge tent in the middle of nowhere with loads of limousines and a runway with private jets landing ... HOW IN THE WORLD did the uncle think that Dylan could afford one of these virgins?
I mean he must somewhat know the means of his nephew, no?
Anyway, Dylan sniffs Lucy, knows she's his mate, so Dylan bids on Lucy against someone else.
He gets the bid at $1,9Mio, which he doesn't have (he has "only" a couple of thousand dollars).
His opponent is pissed but the auction house owner sees how wild Dylan is and takes his money, weds Dylan and Lucy on the spot and they walk out.
Only to get followed by his rich opponent who wants to pay full price and gets killed on the spot by Dylan. Well he and his bodyguards get killed.
And no. There is no consequence. No investigation. No follow up after the murder happened.
It just does, they drive home, have some hand stuff in the car and have sex at home.
The home he lives in with his brothers and their mates.
Which brings me to these idiots.
They disapproved Dylans choice to get some random girl to sleep with that is not his mate. See, they rather apparently would see their brother shot than have him do ANYTHING that could help his bear. Because yes, killing him would have been the only option after a bear turns feral. Ffs Dylan’s bear almost ruined his brothers wedding my because it is almost too late for him finding his mate. They don’t care. They disapprove.
So much so that they are absolutely cold when Lucy walks into the kitchen with them all sitting in. They think she is the random girl Dylan hooked up with to calm down his bear.
They say hello, but only when Lucy mentions that she's Dylan's mate they all circle around her, compliment her hair etc. It feels so fake and pseudo nice.
I really didn't like anyone in this novella. And that is super rare for me.
Oh and by the way! Lucy's hair & eye colour even changed within the novel.
She get's described during the auction as having brunette hair with blue eyes but then she later has golden hair and brown eyes.
God damn, this is a novella it’s not that hard to, at least, keep your main protagonist’s features straight. 🙄

Story: Dylan (H), a grizzly shifter, exhibits feral behaviors due to his inability to find his mate. He decides to go to an auction and purchase a woman to help stave off his behavioral problems. Lucy (h) is homeless, jobless and penniless when she decides to sell herself at an auction. Dylan scents Lucy and instantly realizes she's his, and even though he may not have the funds to support the winning bid, nothing will stop this grizzly from claiming his mate. Intensely hot and sexy shifter quickie!
Audio: The narrators did a really great job with this story. The audiobook uses a male narrator and a female narrator – I always appreciate when an author goes for the additional costs of having two narrators so that listeners can hear male dialogue with a male voice and female dialogue with a female voice. Tor Thom his nice deep and soothing voice does a great job with the tone he brings to Dylan, and other male voices, and Fiona Clare gave Lucy a voice that seemed to embody her, as well as other female voices.

Honestly...
This was not the greatest I've read from this author.
I just can't get over the fact that Dylan was willing to go to an auction to find a woman until he could find his mate. Now I will say that he says in the book that he was just going to get his family off his back...but if that were the case then why is it he had thousands of dollars on hand in his truck? You know just to get his family off his back right??
Another big peeve of mine.? With books this short I can't understand why it is that the author can't keep the description of the characters straight. First Lucy is brown hair and blue eyed (this is the description given when she's on the auction block) but then when she is will Dylan she's now a blonde hair and brown eyed goddess. *rolls eyes*

Wow! This story was short but man was it hot! Lucy is homeless and in desperate need of some good luck. Deciding to put herself up for auction is a last resort. Dylan is a grizzly shifter who has watched his brothers all find their mates. Little by little, his bear is going feral and unless he finds his own mate, things may get really bad. On his uncle's advice, he goes to the auction to at least find a woman that he can be with until his mate comes along, if she ever does. You know what's going to happen when he scents Lucy! LOL The story is hot and quick but I really enjoyed it! I was rooting for Dylan and Lucy the whole time!

Another fun and sexy read for OTT. I can’t seem to get enough of her brand of growly alpha. There’s just something about it that does it for me.
Lucy finds herself in dire need of money. Dylan is in dire need of his mate. Fate intervenes and bring these two together perfectly. I loved the feral nature of Dylan. It was tempered nicely with the sweetness of Lucy.

how did i get through this

Pensé que iba a ser un libro pochoclero de romance para pasar el rato. Pero no, me encontré con un libro asqueroso en donde TODO está MAL.
La historia comienza por presentarnos el protagonista masculino, que es un hombre cambia formas de oso. La cuestión es que en este universo hay parejas predestinadas y este señor estaba rozando los 30 y pico y a diferencia de todos sus hermanos que ya están casados y encontraron a sus parejas, él no. Eso hace que su oso interior esté muy malhumorado; y tiene que encontrar una solución rápido porque si no se va a volver loco literalmente, y sus hermanos lo van a tener que matar.
La solución momentánea que encuentra su tío es que vaya a tener sexo con otras chicas para tratar de controlar a su oso. Él no está muy de acuerdo con esa idea, pero lo va a intentar. De esta manera termina yendo a una subasta de chicas.
Y es cada dónde yo marco la primera bandera roja. Porque en vez de conocer a una mujer en un bar como una persona normal, él elige y va por su propia voluntad a una subasta de mujeres. ¿No te suena como algo ilegal?
Por otro lado, hay una organización que se dedica a realizar subastas de chicas vírgenes para millonarios. Y la protagonista va a terminar aceptando ir a este lugar debido a que es básicamente pobre y no tiene a nadie a quien pedir ayuda.
Los dos protagonistas van a terminar encontrándose en este lugar y él va a pujar por ella, pero como son parejas predestinadas él se la va a llevar igual peleándose sangrientamente con todo el mundo. Y ella está encantada con esta situación porque piensa que él la está “salvando”.
Entonces lo que yo considero que está mal en la historia es cómo maneja la situación la autora, porque está describiendo una maldita organización que básicamente prostituye chicas.
Lo peor de toda la situación es que la organización dice que las chicas ingresan de manera totalmente VOLUNTARIA.
Sin embargo, la verdad termina siendo que la única manera en que las chicas entran en este lugar es porque son coaccionadas por un entorno. Es decir, porque son chicas pobres, que no tienen educación, que no tienen lugar donde pedir ayuda, que viven en la calle (como es el caso de la protagonista).
Partiendo desde este hecho, ya no hay nada “romántico”, estás creando una historia de prostitución como si estuvieses comprando un helado.
También está el hecho que esta organización pretende que las chicas sean vírgenes. Entonces pasan por una revisión médica en donde las desnudan y revisan, para después entregarlas a estos millonarios hombres que están comprando por ellas. 🤮🤮
Mi pregunta es mientras está escribiendo la autora, ¿no hay una alarma que le suene en la cabeza diciendo está mal esta situación? Esto no debería estar pasando y bajo ningún punto se puede vender como si fuese una historia de romance en donde él va a salvar a la protagonista. (Sobre todo porque él es él quien también participa como millonario para comprar una mujer, pertenece al mismo sistema de mierda no importa que sea el protagonista masculino).
pd: El libro también tiene problemas de continuidad porque de continuidad: Lucy empezó con ojos azules y terminó siendo rubia con ojos marrones.

La solución momentánea que encuentra su tío es que vaya a tener sexo con otras chicas para tratar de controlar a su oso. Él no está muy de acuerdo con esa idea, pero lo va a intentar. De esta manera termina yendo a una subasta de chicas.
Y es cada dónde yo marco la primera bandera roja. Porque en vez de conocer a una mujer en un bar como una persona normal, él elige y va por su propia voluntad a una subasta de mujeres. ¿No te suena como algo ilegal?
Por otro lado, hay una organización que se dedica a realizar subastas de chicas vírgenes para millonarios. Y la protagonista va a terminar aceptando ir a este lugar debido a que es básicamente pobre y no tiene a nadie a quien pedir ayuda.
Los dos protagonistas van a terminar encontrándose en este lugar y él va a pujar por ella, pero como son parejas predestinadas él se la va a llevar igual peleándose sangrientamente con todo el mundo. Y ella está encantada con esta situación porque piensa que él la está “salvando”.
Entonces lo que yo considero que está mal en la historia es cómo maneja la situación la autora, porque está describiendo una maldita organización que básicamente prostituye chicas.
Lo peor de toda la situación es que la organización dice que las chicas ingresan de manera totalmente VOLUNTARIA.
Sin embargo, la verdad termina siendo que la única manera en que las chicas entran en este lugar es porque son coaccionadas por un entorno. Es decir, porque son chicas pobres, que no tienen educación, que no tienen lugar donde pedir ayuda, que viven en la calle (como es el caso de la protagonista).
Partiendo desde este hecho, ya no hay nada “romántico”, estás creando una historia de prostitución como si estuvieses comprando un helado.
También está el hecho que esta organización pretende que las chicas sean vírgenes. Entonces pasan por una revisión médica en donde las desnudan y revisan, para después entregarlas a estos millonarios hombres que están comprando por ellas. 🤮🤮
Mi pregunta es mientras está escribiendo la autora, ¿no hay una alarma que le suene en la cabeza diciendo está mal esta situación? Esto no debería estar pasando y bajo ningún punto se puede vender como si fuese una historia de romance en donde él va a salvar a la protagonista. (Sobre todo porque él es él quien también participa como millonario para comprar una mujer, pertenece al mismo sistema de mierda no importa que sea el protagonista masculino).
pd: El libro también tiene problemas de continuidad porque de continuidad: Lucy empezó con ojos azules y terminó siendo rubia con ojos marrones.

I'm not used to reading novellas but this was a quick read. Damsel in distress meets her not so charming shifter mate ^.^ There is a bit of a purity obsession, but the heat was there. If you want a HEA, it's definitely a good one.

The smut was hot as hell, and let’s be real, that’s what we’re all here for.
And thank for for that because the plot was too short to actually do anything that even remotely makes sense.
The auction is terrible, the fight scene even worse.

Really wish this one was a little bit longer. If you have read other mate books by Olivia T Turner then you know the deal. One mate universe with dual virgins and a growly possessive mate. I love her fated mate books; definitely my favorite type from her.

if all you are looking for is porn, not romance, this is your book
I like steamy romance but this was basically caveman-like, over the top, giant man-bear who must rut or go insane, tiny female that needs him to save her from homelessness,…porn. There was no chemistry.
The guy kills 2 dudes, shifts back to a human and kills a 3rd guy in cold blood when he could have disarmed him and the girl gets hot for him.
Then after he claims her with his giant 🍆, she goes downstairs to find his family there and they treat her like dirt until she says she’s his mate and it’s like a light switch and they instantly jump up, welcome her to the family and hug them both.
This is not what I enjoy reading even in an insta love book.
