I also know it's tough being a parent of a child with ADHD — ADHD affects every aspect of life (family, school, relationships, money management, and more), which can lead to feelings of shame and failure on both sides if things don't go as planned. This book is terrible. In one chapter it states that teachers blame sugar for the ADHD child’s explosive episodes thanks to our “puritanical” roots then pages later lists sugar as one of things children with ADHD should avoid. This books is full of these contradictions and baseless claims while not offering any of the skills promised in the title. The publishing company should be ashamed.
This is a very good overview. There is good research and some practical advice for parents. I only wish there were a few more specifics - “if they do this, try this.” Overall, would highly recommend.
This book is useless. It’s nothing you can’t find in a free Google search and save yourself the money and time in reading it. I kept waiting to get into the actual information to help with what the title claims, but it never came. It’s just a copy and paste of the basic tips for any child, not just a child who’s been diagnosed with ADHD.
How you deal with this disorder is the key to having peace for you and your child. Understanding the causes and triggers is one strategy. Learning how to play games that diffuse the anger is another strategy. The author also encourages parents to keep up with the latest medication options and other breakthroughs in deal with ADHD.
This was just ok. Nothing in it was eye opening or something I didn’t already know as a parent and teacher. I suppose it could be helpful for someone who didn’t know anything about ADHD.
