Meet Ken Clarke. Cool. Kick-ass and way above average in the looks department.
She's super smart and hits the drums like a rock star. She has a beautiful face, and rocks the androgynous fashion like she just stepped out of the covers of a magazine.
Even girls screamed for her and guys... well, thanks to her father, she had lost her faith in men a long time ago. And she didn't think that any man was worthy of her trust.
Her world revolved around her fragile best friend, Jennifer. She made it her mission to protect her.
And then Nicholas Atkins entered the picture... Smart, devilishly handsome, smooth-talking Alpha Male who thought every guy in town wanted to be him, and every girl wanted to sleep with him.
Jennifer suddenly fancied herself in love with him, much to Ken's disappointment.
Soon, Jennifer was busy chasing after Nick. Ken was busy keeping her away from him. Nick, on the other hand, had a different agenda in mind.
Ken didn't know that while Jennifer was so desperate to win Nick's heart... Nick would do everything to win hers.
If you have read Jerilee Kaye’s books, then you are familiar with her modus operandi. Her romantic love swooning stories are not short, they have plenty ups and downs and little drama towards the ending, the characters are not perfect, they have flaws and vulnerabilities. Passion, love and fate have front seats, the family and friends dynamics as well as relationships are explored. The heroes are usually the Prince Charming type, I know “too good to be true” and the sex scenes are not too many or detailed.
In this story the heroine, Mackenzie Belle Clarke aka Ken Clarke, had a characteristic that I haven’t encountered before, she was androgynous. Kudos to the author for introducing this type of character, but unfortunately didn’t work for me. Her ambivalent attitude confused me a lot throughout the story and tbh tired me. It was very hard for me to connect with her.
I found farfetched that she was perfect in EVERYTHING! She could play drums as a pro and sang pretty well too, aced in her studies, played basketball, was a great cook and also very good at drawing. There was a lot of push and pull from her side towards the hero that became a little exhausting. Nick, the hero, was amazing!!
Before the end, there was a shocking drama that was eventually resolved and led to a hea through a wonderful epilogue.
Incredible! I’ve read every jerilee book they all make me cry they are all fresh ideas and never fail to disappoint. Love how modern this book is and how it incorporates gender identity and conflict in gender and also mental health awareness
Am first when I started to read this book i struggled and that’s me been honest I didn’t really like the female lead! She was abit too much, she kept saying over and over am Ken Clarke and just seemed full of her self. But I kept on because I love this author, and am so glad I did
I ended up falling in love with the female and male lead, especially the male! Every guy should be like him! He’s a walking green flag who can make mistakes and own them!
And the female lead I love her growth she made during the full book! She cut out the toxic and made her self so much better, it’s a beautiful story and well written. Definitely a feel good book
Unique storyline. Unique but amazing protagonist. It's so refreshing to see a character that is not your typical Cinderella, sweet, innocent, abused damsel in distress. At first, I thought I Ken was a boy, but my oh my! I was in for a shock in the middle. LOL! It was a pleasant surprise. Nick is just amazing as the love interest. This book is truly a journey for me with tons of lessons to takeaway. Yes, Jerilee Kaye, made it clear in this story, that you love the person, regardless of what they are. Indeed a beautiful, heart-wrenching story with a HEA.
This is a unique, amazing story. It tells of a unique MC and the persistent boy who loves her no matter what. It touched on so many social issues, and individuality and being yourself. The romance is so sweet! I would recommend this book!
MMC says he is not a liar or a r*pist but by the end of the book he is both. Having s*x with FMC who has had a bottle gin and is not able to tell reality from dream/fantasy is not okay.
Also the authors overuse of exclamation points ❗️ is ridiculous. There are 3 times as many as there are pages in her books.
Again!!! What a great writer!! I fall in love with these characters and the rollercoaster of emotions!!!🥹 I love a good romance which has twists & turns throughout the story to keep me guessing!!! A must read!!! More people need to read Jerilee Kaye’s books, she is amazing!! Very underrated!!!!!! 10/10 ~ Molly x
