Fae Haven #3

Promises Kept

Rate this book
Words have power. Almost as much power as love.

When a dying woman makes him vow to watch over her baby, the last thing Adam Christensen expects is for anyone to take him so fully at his word. But then the woman’s brother shows up on his doorstep, baby in tow, with wild stories of magic and fae and going on about promises, and everything changes.

At first, Kalen is too busy drowning in his grief to notice Adam beyond the bare minimum. But soon enough, Adam’s warmth, his humor, his unwavering heart all manage to sneak through the cracks in Kalen’s armor. Somehow, Adam becomes more than a roommate, more than a co-parent to baby Moira. He becomes Kalen’s friend, someone Kalen can trust...someone to love.

But Kalen’s time is limited and he’s only supposed to stay until Adam and Moira don’t need him around. Falling for each other was never part of the plan, and that’s the least of their worries when the past rears up and threatens to destroy their little family. Adam’s promised to take care of Moira, though, and he's made promises to Kalen as well.

And promises are meant to be kept.

Promises Kept is the third book in the Fae Haven series. It features a half human baby with fae magic, a mortal in desperate need of family, and a warrior fae in need of peace. While each book in the series features a different couple, they are meant to be read in order.

Elizabeth Silver is a writer, a tarot reader, a Level Two Cat Lady, and an internet junkie. Her day job is terribly dull, her hobbies oddly specific and quirky, and her husband the most patient person a writer could ask for.

A New Jersey native, Liz is a proud nerd and an awkward human being. She likes to think it makes her endearing. When not writing, Liz can be found collecting tarot cards, chasing Pokemon, fighting her way out of YouTube spirals, and/or performing online searches that will probably land her on a government list somewhere someday.

I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review, and I read it in one sitting.
Adam promises a dying woman that he will take care of her baby daughter. It turns out that the woman is fae, and her daughter is half fae and half human. A promise to a fae is binding, and the baby and her uncle Kalen soon move in with Adam.
This book is part of a series, and I'm interested in reading the other stories, but this one is able to stand on its own. The growing romance between Adam and Kalen is heart-melting, and the sex scenes are delicious. The two men and their little girl become a precious family, and it is a great story.

This is book three of the Fae Haven series and the main characters are Adam Christensen, a first responder, and Kalen, a fae who meets Adam for the first time, when his twin sister Naomi crashes her car, right in front of Adam who was on his way home. Adam called 911 for assistance and made his way to the crashed car, finding a baby girl in the rear of the car, with her mother in the front having some serious injuries. When his colleagues arrive, the mother is repeated asking Adam to promise to look after her daughter! What he doesn’t realise is that the woman is fae and a promise made to a fae is a serious and lifelong thing. Kalen feels his sister dying and arrives before they can even get her out of the car, using his fae magic to make everyone forget he was even there and that there had even been a baby there. Baby Moira is very upset to be separated from Adam, having somehow understood a bit of her mother’s plea to Adam and the promise he made to Naomi as she died. Kalen goes back to the fae world with Moira, but when the council of elders hear about the promise Adam made Naomi, he is told to return her to Adam and that he can stay until she comes into her magic, if she does, since her father Steven is human. He only wanted Naomi for the magic she could do, wanting her to do as he asked and make him rich! Naomi was running away from him with Moira, knowing he would use Mira as well, if she stayed with him!
Kalen turns up at Adam’s house with baby Moira and has to remove part of the block he put on his memories of the accident, which although only a day or so for Kalen, has been over a month in the human world. He tells Adam about where he is from and about magic, even doing some magic in front of him and telling him about the promise he made Naomi and how important it was, with regard to her baby! Adam puts Kalen and Moira up in his spare rooms, with Moira definitely remembering Adam and favouring him for comfort! Lots of stuff is going to be needed for the baby and Kalen tells Adam he has plenty of gold and can pay for it all and will need to stay until neither of them need him in their lives any longer. Adam finds Kalen incredibly attractive, but tries to temper his feelings, not having any clue if Kalen feels the same. Moira starts to show some magical ability near her first birthday and Adam decides to throw her a party. His sister Rachel lives nearby and is the only one of his siblings that still speaks to him, since he told his family he was gay. Even his parents are uncomfortable with his choices. Kalen’s parents come to the human world initially to meet Kalen’s brother Connor and his boyfriend Matt and it soon turns out to be quite a gathering with his cousin Niall and partner Ben, and Rachel and her kids also there. Kalen’s father Puck is told to behave as some of the human guests don’t yet know about magic or the fae world and they can’t let that be known unless they have a good reason and solid relationship with someone. Puck likes to give friends and family his very potent moonshine and it ended up with one of the previous characters being too drunk to remember they should have returned to their partner in the human world and ended up missing for months!
Kalen and Adam finally kiss, even though everyone already thinks they are together, and the fae don’t have any hang-ups about relationships between any partner they fancy, being very fluid in their love lives. Their relationship starts off slowly and Kalen is reluctant to get serious with Adam, knowing that he will have to leave once Adam and Moira can cope without him. Kalen soon becomes more than a co-parent with Adam and he is no longer a roommate either, as their relationship gets steamy and begins to get serious. Talk soon turns towards love and Kalen even wonders about hand fasting, the fae equivalent of marriage, but for life with no divorce! Adam had already promised Naomi that he would care for Moira, but he reaffirms that to Kalen as well, and no promises of love and being together always are also flying around. Promises and thanks to a fae mean something serious and are meant to be kept. Your word means something to a fae and can he trust Adam’s word, when he has seen what happened with his sister and even his brother Connor is having issues with his human partner. Just as they settle into their new lives together, the past comes back to threaten their happiness and bringing deadly danger to all three of them! Their family is ripped apart, but the Dark One will be the final judge on what happens next and who Moira should stay with. A great romantic tale, with a baby who brings these two strangers together and forces them to work together to raise Moira and be the best for her. Romance and love easily follows with the love between Adam and Kalen quickly ramping up, and promises and trust being easy to find and keep between them. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Adam and Kalen . . .

Wow, Adam and Kalen are fantastic in this adorable story. Adam Christensen, a human, makes a promise to a dying woman who was involved in a car accident. She asked him to take care of her baby daughter Moira. He immediately promises, not expecting it to mean anything. But the woman is Fae and promises to Fae are binding. Before he can even think about it, a sweet baby girl and her Uncle Kalen move in with him!

It is wonderful to watch and read their interaction with each other as they bond in love over Moira. She is the focus of both of them. She comes first in their lives as the three of them seem to naturally form a family. But Kalen is only supposed to be there for a limited time. And when his father, Puck, arrives to visit his granddaughter, both Adam and Kalen show their protectiveness over their shared daughter.

I really admired Adam and Kalen and was so glad to see them fall in love. Their friendship was genuine and Adam helped Kalen get through his grief over his sister. Seeing them work out their problems was also a good sign. But can Kalen stay with Adam? Can they become an official family? Or will he have to return to his magical world? And what will they do when Moira’s father, who abandoned her mother when she refused to provide any more magic for him, threatens to take Moira to “motivate” Kalen to give him what he wants – as he demands wealth and power in return for the child?

Promises Kept by Elizabeth Silver and Jenny Urban is part of a series set in a small town I lived in. This is the second time that has happened to me. Having lived in NYC and NO, I expect to read books set in those cities. Not so much for smaller towns in the Rockies. I have to confess to a life-long weakness for stories about the fae thanks to reading Peter Pan at an impressionable age. In Promises Kept, the last single fae in Puck’s family, Kalen, gets involved with Adam, obviously a human, thanks to both caring for Kalen’s niece. What I really enjoyed about this book was it was not insta-lust. Both men are focussed on the baby and only eventually fall in love. I also liked the major impediment to their happiness and how it was resolved. I know this is the end of the series, but I would read another book set in this world. I received a free ARC of this book and I am leaving a review voluntarily.

I loved this book. It was a fun, sweet romance. Adam and Kalen were such wonderful characters and I loved watching their relationship develop and grow. I also really liked that this wasn't an insta-love or insta-lust story. Kalen was grieving over his twin sister's sudden death due to a car accident. Adam witnessed it and rushed down to help. He promised the woman he'd take care of her baby just before she passed away. Little did he know she wasn't human and he would be held to that promise. Their relationship built up around caring for little Moira together until they fell in love. This was easily my favorite book in this series. 5 stars.

Beautiful story that I loved. Great storyline that had drama, action, suspense, romance, and hot & sexy scenes. Adam and Kalen are wonderful characters with great chemistry and passion. They become roommates in order to take care of Moira, Kalen's sister's baby. I love Adam's commitment to take care of a baby that is not his family, based on a promise he made to a dying stranger. Watching Adam and Kalen growing closer throughout the book and working together is spectacular.

This book brings together some compelling elements— there’s a found family, forced proximity, fae-human dynamics (pro-tip, As Adam learns, if you make a promise to one of the fae, it’s not something you can break). Adam and Kalen have chemistry that works on both physical and emotional levels, and the process of them going from strangers brought together by circumstances (see half-fae, half-human baby and a promise) to something more is enjoyable to watch unfold. 4.5 stars.

When Adam promises a dying woman he will take care of her baby, he has no idea exactly what that means. She was Fae and a promise isn't some casual thing. Thus do Kalen and Moira enter his life. Adam and Kalen are so sweet together as they slowly grow closer and fall in love (no instalove here). Of course, with Adam being human and Kalen being Fae, there are some obstacles to their being together, but love wins. Very enjoyable story.

Promises Kept is the third book in the Fae Haven series and is seriously good!! Adam is a human, he makes a promise to a dying woman to take care of her baby daughter Moira. The dying woman is fae and Adam is now bound to honor that agreement. Before Adam realizes it, Moira and her uncle Kalen are living with him. This was sooo freakin good, couldn't out it down. Overall, fantastic!! Well written with great pacing!.

Another Fun Fae Story

This was another fun story from this fae series. Following Adam and Kalen develop their relationship while dealing with the aftermath of an unfortunate event was a sweet story. Worth reading.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Wow!!!

This was amazing. I love the world and characters. I want to know more. The elders fascinate me, especially the one we saw here. Love to know more about that one. Heck I just want more of this world any way I can get it.
