Horrible Story

Full disclosure: I couldn't finish this book, so I may have missed some redeeming feature(s). BUT as of 68%, the story was still horrible, so I gave up. You've been warned.

This one was kind of weird. It had moments of being good and interesting, but then there was a lot that felt like it was something I had read before. The plot did not seem original, and I don't think this is one I will remember in a few days. There was also this super annoying thing where the author left out the subject of the sentence constantly. I don't know what the purpose of that was, but it was just distracting. I did win this book in a Goodreads Giveaway, and I am grateful to have won. This book was not horrible and I definitely finished it, but I am just going 2 stars on this one.

Simply riveting.

McCray sure knows how to keep his audience turning pages. Edge of your seat suspense and the perfect balance of great characters and a well-planned plot.

Intense but predictable

Mike McCrary writes intense books. The characters of Hannah and Sloane seem like something out of a video game, and their reactions to everything became predictable, which is why I’m giving “For You” three stars instead of four. It is suspenseful but also violent. Reader beware.

This just didn't connect for me. The writing style threw me a little, and lot of the plot lines didn't match up for me. The action seemed kind of random and unexplained, and I didn't buy into the story.

This story takes violence to a whole new level. Personally, I didn't particularly like it. As usual, nowadays, it left the reader with questions - but I shall simply forget it (not difficult!) as I have no intention of acquiring the follow-up!

I was intrigued by the premise of 'For you.' A man commits an atrocious crime, murdering three innocent people and says he did it for 'Hannah Rush.'

'checks his watch. Slips his glasses on.'

The omission of filler words like the/ he, gives the author an interesting writing style, which adds to the characters' authenticity and keeps the story fresh and engaging for the reader. The climactic scenes are fast-paced and intense with just the right amount of slower backstory and build-up.

Poor Hannah had only been innocently flirting with the man in the coffee shop, completely oblivious to the dangerous path it would lead to.

'Connect the dots, man, It's what's between the words. It's the in-betweens that can save us. Or slaughter us.'

I thought this repeated refrain from Zack worked well and was thought-provoking. The author does a great job of painting this character as the villain.

'The world caves in on itself. Feels like she's slipping into a bathtub filled with warm milk. She stops fighting. Allows it to overtake her. Eyes flutter, then close.'

There is also some beautiful, descriptive writing to be found. I was completely invested in Hannah's story and got quite emotional at this point.

The character, Sloane, had also been through a traumatic experience and was known as 'final girl,' The survivor. It was great to read how the two woman worked together against the man who had such a huge impact on both of their lives.

The twist at the end had me on the edge of my seat. The author cleverly drip fed information about how important. Hannah's family were to her- her niece, Luna and her sister Courtney (Corny) I was willing them to find a safe hiding place.

I will have no hesitation recommending 'For you' and wish the author every success with publication.

For You - I got the criminal wrong because I disregarded some of the characters and I was immersed in the book. Well written and well thought out, but the talented Mr. McCrary always does well with his books. Strong characters and good story lines made this another McCrary book difficult to put down until the last page was read. There is violence and blood but not exaggerated gore. I really liked the ending, it couldn't happen to a nicer person. 5*

Someone Savage - I am used to being surprised, amazed, shocked, etc., and definitely entertained by this author but this book runs ahead of his other books. McCrary has written some excellent stories. The gamut of emotions range immensely, as in his other works. The characters whether good or evil are realistic and the reader is emotionally drawn into the pages. If you saw Die Hard in a theater, you understand what I mean by participating. No, I did not scream and engage in Krav Magua but mentally I was involved in the action and dialogue, as always the storylines were well thought out and intriguing. The relationship between the older siblings was fun and heartwarming. Alison is a hoot. having Hooper facing demons of his own added a lot of depth to the story. The good characters showed that what it takes to survive still exists and that quitting and self-pitying is not part of survival. The profanity wasn't immensely used for those of us who can form sentences without "bad words". Cannot wait for the next book. 5*

Hannah can't believe her eyes, right there on the TV news is a murderer and a hostage. She knows the young man covered in blood, spoke to him that very morning. And now he screams to the cameras, "I did it for you, Hannah Rush!"

That is the beginning of a story full of twists and turns; violence and blood; fear and more fear. Hannah is running from police who seem to think she might be an easy solution. She is running from Zach, the murdering barista, who escaped with his hostage. She is running from life to avoid death. And she just found out she may not be alone.

I received a free Advance Review Copy with the only stipulation being that I write an honest review. Honestly, I think I hate Mike McCray. I don't read books like this. But every time I see he has written another, I read it because he goes beyond the genre and puts out a book that makes me read it because it is so well written.

It was ok, not good. Very violent. I didn’t see the character development to cause this mousey character to turn into a killing machine, and the other characters don’t seem to have a compelling reason for doing what they did either. (Keeping it vague to not ruin the book in case you still find it in yourself to want to read it). I’d rather give it 2.5 stars instead of 3, but I wholeheartedly suggest you skip this book and go read something else.

hope there’s a “Sloane” sequel!

This is the second book I’ve read by Mike McCrary; it won’t be the last! He writes strong, but flawed, female characters including, in this book, Hannah and Sloane. Hopefully there will be another book detailing what happens to Sloane. I really need to know how she uses Hannah’s dark web information to find those who find joy in heinous acts of violence.

The Title Follows The Book's Storyline Well

Kept my attention. A little too gory in spots for me. Liked the surprise ending and twists and turns throughout the
story. I had some trouble relating to the characters in the book. They didn't seem real to me. They were more like actors or actresses in a movie.

Read this within a couple of hours, and it had such potential to become a 5-star. Starts with local barista Zach, who has just killed three people and says his actions are because of his crush on Hannah, a regular who visits his coffee shop.

As the story progresses, it becomes increasingly far-fetched. This is a short book, but I felt like more could be said.

WOW

What a story!!! The storyline is so riveting that it kept me on the edge of my seat. I truly couldn’t put it down until I was done reading it. Full of action, drama and suspense throughout the whole story. I haven’t read one of his books before but that’s going to change.

Thrilling thriller. Took me away for a wild ride with Hannah and Sloane and it was all over far too soon.
The bad guys (mostly) got theirs and the good gals might just have survived. And, at the end of the day, that’s all a girl can wish for, right? The right (and guts) to survive.

mentally Ill sickness

I tried reading this, then decided to read a little every so often. This is a story driven by mental illness, I can’t see the point of this story at all as I believe people have a lot of pain in living and this book seems to glorify it somewhat.

Slow start -great finish

Started off slow and I had a hard time getting into it. I didn't like the main character at first but ended up loving her in the end. The ending was suspenseful.

What a twisted thriller! I really didn't expect those type of dots to be connected, and the character development of Hannah was superb. I really enjoyed it, and I really wanted the real villain to get what he deserved. So yeah The other main character needs to handle that bizness!😏
