Oh, it was deep alright.
Bottom of the ocean tied to a rock kind of deep.

To say Adam and Ella have some issues to work through is putting it mildly. There’s the fact Adam’s a Dream-Walker, the fact his brother Kyle dream-dated Ella before Adam plucked up the courage to introduce himself, there’s Ella’s newly discovered “side effect” and then there’s Jeremy. Bloody Jeremy. He might be a smug womaniser, but he can promise Ella one thing the other two cannot: that if she dreams of him, it’s because she wants to. No one else is going to put him there.

But with the world thrown into chaos, Gerome Clarke on the loose, and the Human Justice Department wanting Ella back under their “protection,” Ella has little time to figure out who or what she wants as she is plunged deeper into this world which once seemed so absurd but now seems unavoidable.

Lessons are learnt and secrets are uncovered in Complicity (The Dangers of Dreaming: Book 2).

Author Chloë L. Blyth has followed up her fantastic rom-com Duplicity-The Dangers of Dreaming: Book 1 with the fabulously wild ride of a story in Complicity- The Dangers of Dreaming: Book 2. Complicity picks up where the story ended in Duplicity, following the main characters, Ella, Adam, and Kyle as they try to unravel the numerous mysteries surrounding their unique abilities while also trying to evade capture by government forces and others who want to utilize their powers for their own gain. While I experienced Duplicity as a rom-com with a side of danger, as I read Complicity, I quickly realized that the groundwork for a much more thrilling story had been laid within the plot of Book 1. Complicity sees that groundwork through, and what began as a rom-com with a hint of danger to the MCs in Book 1, suddenly takes a turn into more thrilling themes with antagonists who are actually quite villainous and three protagonists who have some catching up to do if they want to win the battle they find themselves in against their numerous foes! Dark humor breaks the tension and adds to the fun of this story.

There are elements of mystery in this book series for certain, and maybe elements of science fiction or even fantasy. Many of the characters possess supernatural powers. However, the powers are generally not of the superhero variety. These powers can manipulate the feelings of others, cause confusion, mayhem, and emotional damage. The choice to use these powers for good or nefarious purposes depends on the morality of the individual in possession of the power. In this book series, even the good guys experience conflict when faced with getting what they want by using their powers, or refraining from using them and doing what is morally correct. Author Blyth uses glimpses into the thoughts of the various characters to reveal their internal conflicts. Humor is frequently part of the contemplation process for each character. Wrong choices are frequently considered with pros and cons weighed which helps make the characters very relatable. Temptation is palpable. The struggle is real! Not everyone makes the best choice the first time around. Some have to learn the hard way. Inner morality and strength of each character evolves as decisions are made.

Characters that were mentioned but not thoroughly introduced in Book 1 are brought into the storyline of Book 2 and make a seamless transition into the story as they contribute depth to the backstories of several main characters. Author Blyth also brings back Kristina, Ella’s amusing work collogue, and Frankie, an occasional love interest of Kyle who just can’t seem to commit to being on the side of good even as she tries. These two women have new roles to play in the story as it evolves throughout Book 2.

At the end of Book 1, I wasn’t entirely certain who the good guys were going to turn out to be and who the bad guys were going to revealed as. Book 2 leaves little doubt which characters are on the side of good. However, the story ends on a cliffhanger, shortly after the introduction of a particularly questionable ‘good guy.’ Not only that, the story introduces a whole new realm of possibilities. Similar to how Book 1 ended, leaving me to consider the story wasn’t a straight rom-com, Book 2 ended leaving me thinking the author was about to take the story into an new genre where her characters and their unique abilities could flourish. I'm looking forward to Book 3 in this dynamic series so I can find out what author Blyth has in store for her readers next!

Dream-Walkers…Need I say more?

“We fell in love with both eyes open, I wasn’t going to let that go so easily.”

First, the cover…it’s so pretty! And fits the whole vibe of the book 🤩

This story was completely captivating, I devoured this in one day! It was much awaited after that cliffy in the first one.

~Oh, before I forget, I want to give major props to Chloë because the world building she has created is phenomenal, especially for this being only her second book ever. I’ll never understand how people can come up with these enthralling stories and ideas and then on top of that write hundreds of pages for it 🤯 I could never. But back to my review lol~

There’s not much I can say without spoiling it (as it builds off of Duplicity), so I’m gonna be somewhat general/vague in this review.

This is a drama, but there are such funny, quick-witted comments that made me love it even more- like this quote that made me laugh (given the situation 😆): “I knew it was going to be deep and meaningful. Oh, it was deep alright. Bottom of the ocean tied to a rock kind of deep.”

Complicity does a good job of recapping what happens in the first book, Duplicity; however, this is the sequel, so it is necessary to read Duplicity before Complicity. Have no fear though, both of these books are so great, you’re not gonna want to put them down once you’ve gotten your hands on them.

The storyline does move quick and it is a filled, action-packed book💥 I definitely needed to take a breather after some of those twists and turns 😮‍💨👀 but then the suspense got to me and I picked it back up 30 seconds later.

💭I loved the flashbacks and deep dives into the characters. Each of their personalities shone through the pages. Jenny was intriguing- I wish there was more of her and her mystery. And Gerome was such a good villain. 😫

The only critique I have is that it sometimes reads as if I’m being told what’s happening instead of it showing me. It can leave me feeling disconnected from the scenes and characters since it may occasionally read choppy. This is mainly with the characters’ inner monologues/thoughts, and less to do with the dialogue/story.

Adam - We have a MMC who has doubts and insecurities! I loved it, as it is so rare for a man to be shown as less than perfect or alpha or in control all the time. He is flawed, but I love how he was written.
Ella - She is quite the FMC, very self-aware, smart, and doesn’t let anyone get away with their BS, especially in regards to her.❤️‍🔥 Her “skill” tho 😭 Girl…
Jeremy - I did not think I would like him as much as I did. The author has a way of making you feel one way towards a character and then a whole other emotion later. It’s impressive.

❗️There are triggers so please be mindful going into it❗️

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I’m anxiously awaiting book 3!!
I can’t wait to read more by Chloë L Blyth in the future!

I read the second and third books in the Dangers of Dreaming trilogy by @chloeblythauthor back to back and I'm so glad that I did! Each book takes off immediately following the cliffhanger of the one before it, making it impossible to put down!

Our FMC Ella and MMC's identical twins Adam and Kyle remain at the forefront of the story, but we also get to know the characters of Jeremy, Gerome, Jenny, Kristina and Frankie in far more depth. With each chapter coming from a different perspective, we're able to understand situations from multiple POV and gain a better insight into people's true motivations.

Dream Walkers remain at the forefront of the story alongside the Human Justice Department, although we learn more about the history of the Resistance and the varied powerful beings within this world. The world itself grows quite significantly and I enjoyed that I couldn't predict the direction that the twists would take.

Ultimately, after finishing the trilogy, I'm really happy with how it ended. It's not at all how I would have predicted but you know what, it's better! I love that this wasn't a cliche series and that I really needed to focus on the characters motivations or I would miss a vital clue.

Thank you to @chloeblythauthor for providing with an ARC of Unity 💕 All opinions are my own and I've written this review willingly.

This book was even better than the first, I was wondering what Chloë would add to this trilogy and keep the story going but I love the direction she took it, it had me on the edge of my seat!

It seems things get more complicated, friends turn out to be family but had to stay secret so no one finds out about their special capabilities when they are dreaming.
Ella is even more important than she realized wanting to find her parents might shed some light on why she is so special but Gerome Clarke is making it very difficult for her to know her real past.
When the truth does come out everyone is running around like crazy animals trying to figure out facts from fantasy, it's going to take some willpower to stay focused to get through all the lies , secrets and fake people in the way.
This was a roller coaster of a read! I highly recommend this trilogy.

Not getting into too much detail to keep this spoiler-free, I love this world the author's created. The twists. The turns. Jeremy. That is all. Oh, and now the song Dream Weaver is stuck in my head. Can't wait to see where this story goes in Book 3!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Complicity by Chloë L. Blyth is a dark, addictive sequel that raises the stakes in all the right ways. The emotional intensity, rich character development, and twisty plot kept me hooked from start to finish. Ella’s journey is gripping, messy, and deeply human, and the dynamic between her, Adam, and Kyle adds a compelling layer of tension. Blyth writes with sharp insight and wit, blending fantasy, romance, and psychological depth seamlessly. A powerful continuation that left me desperate for the final book!

Fantastic part 2

I am really hooked up in this series.
And I recommend it. It has multiple POVs that, at some moments, get slightly confusing. But it gives all the backstory you need to get more into the world.

Intriguing and different

I really enjoyed this and the jumping time lines the pacing is a bit slower than book 1 but still so interesting and definitely worth the read
