Texas Promise #0.5

Harrison's Resolve

Rate this book
He might only be ten, but when he uncovers a plot that will hurt his friends and their families, he knows the right thing to do… until he realizes his father is the one behind the plot.

Moving is stupid, or at least that what ten-year-old Harrison Rutherford thinks when his father forces him to leave their comfortable home in Laredo and move to the desert town of Twin Rivers, Texas. But the people he meets in Twin Rivers aren’t all that stupid, especially not the group of boys who befriend him or the pact he makes that will follow him into adulthood.

But when Harrison discovers his father’s true motives for moving to Twin Rivers—and the suffering it will bring friends—he finds himself faced with a choice that will shape his life for the next decade…

From moving to Twin Rivers as a boy to becoming the most prominent lawyer in Austin, follow Harrison Rutherford on his quest to free himself of his father’s demands and meet the unexpected woman who can change his life for the better—if he chooses to let her.

Set against the jagged mountains and vivid sunsets of Texas’s Big Bend region, Harrison’s Resolve is a meaningful story about being loyal and doing right.

Naomi Rawlings is the author of historical Christian novels, including the Amazon bestselling Eagle Harbor Series. While she'd love to claim she spends her days huddled in front of her computer vigorously typing, in reality, she spends her time homeschooling, cleaning, picking up, and pretending like her house isn't in a constant state of chaos. She lives with her husband and three children in Michigan's rugged Upper Peninsula, along the southern shore of Lake Superior where they get 200 inches of snow every year, and where people still grow their own vegetables and cut down their own firewood--just like in the historical novels she writes.

Harrison’s Resolve is the latest installment in the Texas Promise series and serves as an introduction to the main characters of the books from this series when they were boys and is also a novella bridge between Tomorrow’s Constant Hope and Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer. It is a short, yet satisfying, story for fans of this series.

It has been so fun watching as each man from the original group of friends found his happily ever after. I so enjoyed seeing these men as boys and they way their various loyalties and friendships were founded. Harrison’s full story will be next in book four of the series, and Harrison’s Resolve sets up the background for that story nicely. I’m looking forward to watching as Alejandra and Harrison work together in the book to come.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness! This is a perfect lead-in for Harrison’s novel. It gives you a backstory of how he met his friends, which it was so nice to get another glimpse at Wes’, Sam’s, and Daniel’s childhood; how he met Alejandra, the lead lady of the upcoming book Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer; and an intro of the problems with his father.

Harrison always wants to help everyone around him even though it would mean he is isolated. He is such a giving character, and you can’t help but like him.

Alejandra is certainly not who anyone thinks she is. She has multiple hats that she puts on for different people. She, like Harrison, just wants justice for those around her.

In the Bible it talks about how the parent’s iniquities would be passed on to their children to the third and fourth generation. This seems to be the case for Cain. The kids his age looked down on him because of his “well-known” mother, which was completely unfair treatment to Cain; however, it’s so common. This novella just made me anticipate Cain’s story, Tomorrow's Lasting Joy, even more.

My favorite part was when the boys first become friends. You see all the different personalities that make up each boy. No one was the same, which was refreshing because it kept the novella interesting.

Harrison’s Resolve leaves you in a perfect spot for Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer. It doesn’t end off on a cliffhanger, but it did make me wish I had Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer already.

This book was clean from curse words and inappropriate sexual behavior. Aside from mentions of a prostitute or a woman leaving a home of a man, it was clean.

I requested and received a complimentary review copy in ebook courtesy of the author for my honest opinion. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

Harrison’s Resolve by Naomi Rawlings is a sweet novella in her Texas Promise series. I have it marked as 3.5 in the series because it is told from Harrison’s perspective and his book is next to release, but it could be read at any time in this series. This is a very short story coming in at only 88 pages, so an easy story to read in one sitting. What I love the most about this novella is that Rawlings depicts the day the boys — twelve-year-old Sam, Daniel, Wes, Harrison, and Cain — make their unique blood oath to either marry by 30, or after 30, or the losers get their heads shaved. It was so fun to see the boys go from playful 12-year-olds to serious little men. It has been fun throughout this series to see if any of the men will get their heads shaved. So far, none have, but we still have Harrison’s and Cain’s stories to go, so time will tell if they become baldies for love. LOL! I also really appreciate how this novella gives a few more critical details to Harrison’s childhood — details that help readers understand how his father wrested control of Twin Rivers’ trade center. This quaint story has definitely whet my appetite for more! I cannot wait for Harrison’s full-length novel, Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer, to release in November! All in all, Harrison’s Resolve is a fun, endearing novella that I highly recommend.

I received a copy of this novel in eBook form from the author, Naomi Rawlings, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This was a novella about Harrison and his father. It took place in 1886 on earlier. Harrison‘s mother died and when he was born and his father raised him. They ended up moving the fort Afton and Harrison made some friends there. Harrison story continues as it goes to college and gets a lot of grief But he does not agree with his father‘s business practices. His father wants him to take over the freight business with Harrison has other ideas. The other character in the story is Alejandra who seems innocent enough but it’s called in the web of the deceit when her uncle Raul sent her to Fort Ashton to spy for his cattle rustling business. I found this novella very interesting and and I hope the next book will be also. I recommend this book for those who like western drama in the beginning love story.

Another great western by author Naomi Rawlings, Harrison’s Resolve is a Texas Promise Novella that will keep you turning the pages and since it’s a novella is easy to read in one sitting.

This book is a great prelude to Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer and we see the men as boys. Getting into trouble, making blood oaths, and so many things that boys do. And then we see them turn into men. Any baldies among them? Read the book to find out why that’s a thing.

Rawlings does a good job setting the story in the dusty desert, and making you see and smell it. I could hear the creak of the saddle leather, too. This makes the book even more enjoyable. Strong characters with a good storyline make this a really good read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Harrison’s Resolve is the latest installment in the Texas Promise series is a novella book that fills the background and is a stepping stone between Tomorrow’s Constant Hope and Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer.
I really enjoyed the novella as it gave us readers more insight into the main character Harrisons childhood with his friends Wes , Sam , Daniel and Cain .
It’s a short story which I think is a great introduction to Harrison’s and Alejandra’s story and I am so looking forward to reading the full book when it is published

I got the novella free to review but all the views are my own .

I have loved this series and this book is such a good bridge between the past and the present stories. I loved seeing how Harrison met the rest of the group of boys and how they developed friendships that took them through adulthood. Even though they took different paths, their friendship and loyalty remained. Harrison's character is evident as he risks being a social outcast to protect and defend those who need him. I am looking forward to the next book and seeing his and Alejandra's relationship develop.

Somewhat Disappointed

Much of this Novella is information I have read in the other Texas books. A bit more detail has been added but not a lot. Much of what was added I had already attributed to Harrison’s life in my own mind by reading between the lines. I gave it three stars because I probably needed a reminder before reading the next book. If I had known there was not going to be very much new material I probably would not have bought it. You may have forgotten what has been written about Harrison in previous books, it will be a valuable reminder.

Harrison’s Resolve by Naomi Rawlings
Texas Promise Series Book 3.5
Harrison Rutherford left town as soon as possible and went to law school. Living the society life in Austin and staying clear of his father and his ways at Fort Austin. This novella tells about Harrison’s earlier life, where his father moved him from Larado to this desert land, and how he met his four friends with whom he’s still close.
Looking forward to his story in book four of this page-turning series.

Harrison Rutherford arrives back in Twin Rivers after his father's "stroke" rendered him incapable of running Ft. Ashton. Harrison meets the maid assigned to tend his father, and senses that she has secrets. Boy, does she have secrets! She's been spying on Rutherford Sr for two years and knows all the dirt on him & his nasty band of hustlers that have been tearing up the county for two years. Will the electricity between Harrison & Alejandra ever catch fire? Read and find out!

This was a nice companion novella for this series and a little intro to Harrison's story. If you've enjoyed this series then you'll like kinda reading a snippet into their orgins as friends. Plus, a sneak peek/hint into Cain's story. This was a quick enjoyable read. I'm intrigued to learn more of the heroine and her backstory.

Harrison's Resolve built just enough intrigue to make reading the follow up full length novel a must. You just have to find out how Harrison and Alejandra's story ends. Naomi is one of my favorite authors, the Eagle Harbour series being one of the best I've ever read. This Novella doesn't disappoint

I just loved Harrison’s Resolve… I enjoyed getting a peak into the boys’ lives, and Harrison’s character. I love that he just wants to do the “right” thing, especially for others. It made me want to read his story with Alejandra even more! I just can’t wait

Skip it. too expensive.

Only maybe 20% new material. Feels really slapdash and rushed. For instance, in the last book the girl Harrison talked about marrying was called Adeline. Here she’s Adelaide. That’s just carelessness. This should have been .99, not 3.99.

This book had a lot of a previous story but filled in some blanks to better lead into the next book. Ms. Rawlings does a great job in telling the stories so you really get to know the characters in the nooks.

Did you ever wonder how the 4 friends from the Texas Promise series met? Check out this novella by Naomi Rawlings, Harrison's Resolve, to find out. Beginning when Harrison is 10 years old and he and his father move to Twin Rivers, Texas. There he meets and becomes friends with a group of other boys.

A good story about friendship and the trials and how it begins and continues into adulthood with this group of boys.

I received this novella from the author and all opinions are my own.
