My wedding day. I should be elated. I’ll become Sofia Semenov, wife to Maxim Semenov, the Pakhan of the Semenov Bratva. But Maxim’s a complete stranger to me. He’s not a prince on a white horse. Maxim’s the ruthless devil in disguise. Hating him should be easy but when Maxim’s able to consume me with one lethal kiss, it's hard not to fall for the devil.

A simple business transaction. That was all Sofia equated to. Her father promised me a different daughter but after a tragic shooting, I had to settle for Sofia instead. Sofia Bianchi is nothing what I expected. She’s beautiful and fierce, and it doesn’t take long for me to realise she’s fit to be my queen.

4 stars.
A quick sexy story in the mafia world.
An arranged marriage.
Sofia made her life from her family, but with the death of her sister, she has to marry Maxim to save her family.
descriptiondescription
They met for the first time in her sister's funeral, there's an insta chemistry between them, though Sofia fights it.
Keeping the promise she made to her dying sister, she marries Maxim to protect her family.
description
The story is full of death, even when they're marrying, there's a hit on them.
Maxim it's not the monster she thought he would be, and she falls in love with him.
description
(Nobody was expecting that, right?)
Though there's a lot of death, keep in mind this is the mafia world, there's a guaranteed HEA.
And it's not a dark story, the characters are not that evil, for me at least...
But their lives are always on the line. That comes with the territory.

Demented Devil is a mafia romance, in which Maxim arranges to marry Lorenzo's daughter, Aurora.
But when tragedy strikes, Sofia must take her place.

This is a very quick read and I think it’s a bit too short.
Everything goes so fast that it lacks some depth.
It also hits every note for the "typical arranged married mafia story," which makes it really predictable.

We get to know Sofia and I really liked her!
As one of the daughters in this mafia family, she decides not to get involved in the business and followed her own path.
She’s introduced as a very strong character.
Unfortunately I feel like we're losing that part of her later in the story.

Maxim is the ‘standard’ moody hot mafia guy.
But.. I don’t think he’s that demented?
He isn’t overly violent, doesn’t come across unhinged and is pretty sweet towards Sofia from the start. And throughout the story he basically treats her like a queen.

Maxim’s and Sofia’s relationship falls a bit flat for me. Sofia didn’t really want to marry him, but there was an instant attraction. However we went from her ‘wanting to set some ground rules’- to her being the happy wife that knows his schedule, has cute little jokes with her husbands and we see things like: ‘he often said..’ and ‘like always’, yet we don’t get to see when they got this chatty all of the sudden.

Last but not least: this book is a dark romance/ erotica. We get one smut scene and after that there are only hints towards them having sex? We get the ‘faded to black’ thing and.. you know.. why??
It’s an erotic dark romance. The smut is one of the main reasons I wanted to read this book.

In short: the characters are nice, the story is fine, but overall my expectations weren’t met.

Thank you to Evernight Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Demented Devil was quick and enjoyable. Maxim is the new Pakhan of the Semenov Bratva who made a deal with Lorenzo Bianchi the Don of the Bianchi Familia and to seal that deal has agreed to marry Aurora Bianchi his golden daughter. After a tragedy the deal is still on, but Aurora is replaced by her father's disappointment, his younger daughter Sofia. I really liked Sofia, she has nothing to do with the family and lives her own life. Even though she has lived her own life she does agree to take her sister's place. Maxim was typical male for this genre, I like him as well. Now as with most stories this length everything moves at lightning speed. I really enjoyed the writing and storytelling, but I wish there was more to the story. Overall, I did enjoy this book and look forward to reading more by this author.

Let me start by saying anything published by Evernight is going to be a fairly quick read - which is what I happened to be looking for. Something that I knew I'd finish in one setting (about 90 minutes with the kids and husband interruptions), something that wasn't a deep, thought provoking read. It was a nice cross between smut and erotica.
.
The title doesn't fit. If this was Lev's (Maxim's brother) book it would have been perfect. Maxim as we read him isn't demented. He isn't overly violent. I mean we only get a whisper of his violence between characters that are gossiping about him. So in ignoring the assumption I made in the start that I was getting a male lead that was dark, and tormented and was going to be protrayed thst way on the pages I liked Maxim. He was a man who knew his duty, but was also aware that his new wife had possibilities to make a good partner.

Sofia wasn't weak, she was very much resigned to the life ahead of her. I thought for a woman who was so adamant against her sister marrying for the family she'd have put up more of a fight leading up to the wedding and after. She lead Maxim on no chase. Which is OK.

In the end the intrigue isn't deep, the sex is great. I enjoyed the characters once I got the lay of the land. I was hoping for more depth, but that's ok.

This was a quick, summer evening read before bed and ticked most of my boxes. I'd b curious about Lev if he gets a book so I'd say Winter Sloane did her job.

Sofia is trying to disuade her sister from marrying into another familia like their father has arranged. Events happen and now Sofia is the one to marry. Sofia is to marry Maxim and when they actually meet she says what she's thinking without any regard to who he is. This story contains violence and action from the beginning of the story and is throughout the book. There's also some family turmoil on her side of the family. There's a kind of mystery through a lot of the book, who's the bad guy that wants to kill them? Is someone from either of their families supplying the bad guy with info? Sofia and Maxim do end up becoming intimate and it's pretty hot, he's kind of dominant and likes a little bondage, nothing hardcore. This is a fairly short read and doesn't get too in depth with the characters, but events happening helped to keep me reading to see what would happen. I enjoyed reading about some of the secondary characters, mostly Maxim's brother. I am anxious to see if there will be another book about Maxm's brother.

I usually don’t really have a problem with short books. I usually still feel like we get enough time with the characters to understand their connection. But this just felt very forced, one second she hated and was scared of him and the next she cared about him. It was just confusing and a bit boring.

Demented Devil de Winter Sloane

Argumento:

Maxim y Sofía me gustaron.

🥀 Novella
🥀 Mafia Romance
🥀 Arranged Marriage

“The realization dawned on Sofia that everything was about perception. Instead of viewing this place as another cage, she could see it as a palace fit for a queen.”

Tropes: Marriage-of-Convenience, Cold-Hero, Black-Sheep-Heroine, Insta-Love, Revenge

Kinks/Spice Details: Dom/Sub, Bondage

Demented Devil follows Sofia, the misfit daughter of an important mafia boss, who is arranged to marry Maxim in her sister's place after an unfortunate tragedy. Maxim is your typical mafia antihero, he is cold and distant until he meets and falls for our heroine. The plot follows Sofia and Maxim’s journey through an arranged marriage and solving the crime against Sofia’s sister.

This book has all the key components typically found in mafia romances…
✔️ Controlling mafia boss father
✔️ An unwanted arranged marriage
✔️ Family tragedies resulting in the loss of a parent
✔️ Heroine sacrificing her own wants to aid the family “business”
✔️ Cold & violent antihero who believes he is incapable of love
✔️ Violence, sex, & revenge

I found this to be an enjoyable read, however, I really wished it was longer. I didn’t feel like I had enough time to connect to the characters, especially since so much of the book was focused on resolving Sofia’s sister's unfortunate tragedy and family politics. There wasn’t much time left for character building due to the plot-focused storyline. The romance felt quite rushed as well. I wished the heroine didn’t give in so quickly and I felt like it was a bit too fast for Maxim, who previously stated numerous times he was incapable of emotion, to fall so quickly for Sofia. That being said though, I did enjoy this story and I really liked Sofia. She is strong and works to accept her differences and come out of her sister's shadow. I appreciated that she didn’t give up the things that brought her joy, even if others disapproved. Overall this was an enjoyable read and if you’re looking for a quick read with all your favorite mafia romance tropes, this may be a good read for you!

brooding all the makings of a deliciously story that can be read in an hour or so 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, arranged marriage, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe love. By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
Sofia has always been her own person despite being born into a mafia controlled family so taking or making her own path in life by walking away from it all, she is strong, independent but finds herself pulled back into the very world she wanted to leave behind when her sister dies. Maxim sexy as all get out Pakhan with a reputation that proceeds him he is ruthless, he can be downright evil if need be without question but he also loves just as passionately and now he is making a deal with the Lorenzo head of the Bianchi to marry his daughter Aurora the one her father thinks so highly of to create a business deal and to keep peace between the two families. But his arranged bride dies leaving her sister whom her father is disappointed because she walked away from their life to forge her own path, but she is all he has left to save their family and agreeing to as much as she is against it, but her sisters asked her on her death bed. The day of her sister funeral is the day she meets the man she is supposed to marry and speaking her mind about it all not realizing she is talking to the man she is to marry which only intrigues him more. The attraction is there for them intense regardless if she doesn’t want to be neither of them can deny the attraction or the magnetic pull between them drawing them to each other eventually giving in to that pull but will he continue to protect her when the dangers come because the dangers are coming for the two of them, there is an air of danger surrounding her family which comes with some violence will her new husband keep her safe, what is her father up to, and can they find happiness in something that was arranged/forced upon them?.

At first, I thought the plot of one sister taking the place of the other sister in an arranged marriage to save an alliance between powerful crime families was going to be a frustrating read. Usually, the FMC are all piss and vinegar, full of fight, making their situations harder than they have to be. These females usually know what is expected of them before going into the marriage. Heck, they are from crime families. Most books have the woman marrying for advantages, not for love. Yet, the character almost always get bratty and fight these exhausting battles.

This story felt more . . . I don't know, idealistic to me. Sofia knew what situation last before her. She knew that part of her wanted to rant and rale, but also knew it would get her nowhere. It may even make Maxim be cruel or hate her. She chose to allow herself to see situations in a different perspective, this a different light. A house that could be just another prison, fortified and heavily guard; she chose to she as a palace that her husband wasn't to keep protect, a safe sanctuary for her.

I appreciated this mindset in the characters because it is a short book, so it is fast-paced. Having characters that never said "I love you" or were overly loving right off the bat kept ensuring grounded. It allowed for the growth and development that would, I feel, naturally take place without that forced and fake feeling.

I really enjoyed this book and hope there will be a story about Lev. That dark soul needs it.

This was great, but I think this could have been amazing.

Demented Devil by Winter Sloane brings us Maxim Semenov and Sofia Bianchi. She’s the daughter of an Italian don and he’s the head of the Russian Bratva. Their ties are to strengthen their organizations and their marriage was arranged but their happy ever after, if possible is all their own. Sofia attempts to love the monster that is Maxim Semenov and Maxim finds he’s trying to be a better man than before.

This was cute and a great story, I just wish it had more. I felt like we skimmed over everything. It was like a quick retelling of a really great mafia romance. I enjoyed all the characters except for one or two. I honestly thought the sister faked her death at first to get out of the arranged marriage. I almost wish it did happen to give the story more drama. But it was still great. While I didn’t think the story was meaty enough I really did enjoy Maxim and Sofia’s relationship. They knew the marriage was happening and I feel like they gave it an honest try from the beginning instead of fighting each other. I also enjoyed Sofia’s revenge. While she could have been more feisty I still enjoyed her character. Maxim and Lev were well described as brutal and psychotic but I feel like I didn’t see enough of that in the story to get that vibe from them.

For being a short mafia story it was great. For it not being too detailed and in-depth, it left me wanting more. But I’d still give this a recommendation, especially for those who need a quick fix on a mafia arranged marriage romance.

Aurora Bianchi is to marry a stranger, her father has promised her to Maxim Semenov, a ruthless mafia bad boy, to secure an alliance between the Bianchis and the Semenovs. But when Aurora is killed, her sister Sofia has to take her place. But rumor has it Maxim killed his last wife...

Sofia doesnt have that much experience with relationships let alone being married, but she finds herself quickly settling in and enjoying married life more than she really wants. Maybe Maxim is the one for her after all? He is convinced he has found his Queen, now its just the matter to make her feel like one.

I read this in about an hour, its an arranged mafia romance and that is exactly what yopu get. The characters are really good despite it being a short story, and the storyline is great. Sofia and Maxim are a cute couple, I really like the "hard exterior/bad reputation man falls for the right one and then we get to see the real him"- trope that this has, but I wanted a bit more of their romance. I would say that the level of smut in this are moderate.

This little novella made me want to read more of Winter Sloane's works

This is a fairly typical arranged marriage mafia romance and a very quick read; it took me less than an hour. I would have liked more development in the relationship between Sofia and Maxim; we didn’t really get that many moments between them to show why their feelings towards each other would change. I also wish Sofia was a stronger character. She’s introduced as a rebel who has left the family business and she encourages her sister not to settle for an arranged marriage, but then she puts up no fight at all when it comes time for her to marry Maxim. It just felt very inconsistent and I didn’t understand her decisions.

Finally, if you’re going to market a book as erotica, there needs to be more than one steamy scene. Why all the fade to black?? That’s the whole point!

Typical mafia arranged marriage
Sofia’s sister Aurora is supposed to marry Maxim but after an unfortunate turn of events, Sofia is the new bride to be. Sofia has always rebelled against her father and wanted nothing to do with the mafia politics and relations or business. Her father saw her as a disappointment. I liked this story. I liked Sophia and Maxim together. I liked watching them go from strangers who were wary of each other to companions who loved one another (even though they didn’t say it). However, I felt like a lot was missing from this story. Like there were blanks here and there, and had the author added a little more detail to certain aspects of the story, I feel like we would’ve connected to the characters and the story much better.
Was it great? No.
Was it bad? Also, no.

This is a mafia arranged marriage romance and it is Maxim and Sofia's story and it is definitely a must read. Maxim is in a arranged marriage to Aurora for business reasons only for tragedy to strike and Sofia takes her sisters place for her father even though she was angry about having to go through it as she had kept herself away from the family business but will have to make the most of the situation as she will now be thrown into the mafia life style. I loved watching how Maxim and Sofia grew stronger together and how there relationship developed along with there strong and intense chemistry and I couldn't put this book down as it was action packed, addictive and had a great characters and a storyline that pulled you in and kept your attention throughout and I can't wait to read more book's by this author in the future.

This mafia book was what I found pretty short and sweet, which was a good thing because it went by quickly. That being said, it definitely reads like a mafia arranged marriage story and hits all the usual tropes and topics we tend to see with this type of book. Sofia was a great character who I actually really liked throughout it all. Often times she gives off strong character traits which are not always seen in the FMC of mafia books. Because of this, she was one of the best characters in the entire book. Maxim is the badboy, but not really cause he's actually very soft towards Sofia, something that's a change from the typical mafia books I've read that I didn't mind.

Overall this was a fun mafia romance book that I would definitely read again!

Not what you expect and so much more

Demented Devil is the story of Sofia Bianchi and Maxim Semenov. This arranged marriage starts out as a business transaction with the uniting of two families. But Maxim and Sofia have a spark from the beginning that only grows until it explodes between them. They are drawn to each other, even as they fight each other and their attraction. Maxim was not expecting Sofia in a lot of ways and she definitely was not expecting Maxim. But as Sofia starts to see things differently things become much more intimate between them.
This is a short and entertaining read. The story-line is nicely crafted and the characters are both interesting, I loved Sofia and her strength.

This was quick, fun and a little bit steamy! Typical love story where a daughter has to marry a mafia boss in order to become allies. Maxim was arranged to be married to Lorenzo’s daughter, Aurora. When they were about to meet Maxim, they were ambushed, and Aurora protected her sister. Before her dying breath, she asked her to protect their family. Fast forward, since her sister is dead she has to marry Maxim. Sofia is the black sheep of the family but later on as the story progresses, she decided to marry Maxim.

It was definitely short so there is not much character development. However, I did enjoy Sofia’s character because she was strong. If you want a short story, fast paced mafia romance then this one's for you.

Demented Devil follows Sofia, a daughter of a mob boss who wants nothing to do with the family business and Maxim, the Pakhan of the Semenov Bratva as they are forced into a marriage. This book is a shorter mafia novel with a lot of forced proximity, and heated banter between the two main characters. I really enjoyed the plot and how it unravels throughout the book and was hooked on the characters pretty quickly. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a "lighter" mafia romance with an enemies to lovers trope.

I do wish the book was a little longer- I felt that the plot and how the characters fall in love moved really quickly and I wanted more from these characters! I also wish there was a little more smut, a lot of the smut was inferred.

If you are looking for a quick mafia style romance - this is it!

Sophia is the black sheep of her influential family. She has no interest in conforming to the ways of her familia.
That is until tragedy strikes and she makes a promise that she intends to keep.

Maxium could care less who he marries, all his future bride will be is a transaction. There's no way he could or would develop feelings; he never has before so now will be no different. Or will it?

This is a short, face paced mafia style romance filled with tragedy and hard choices.

Maxium is the devil, Sophia might have just met her match with him.

It was supposed to be mafia romance right? Then where was the romance? I started this book thinking it's Mafia one, we'll get arranged marriage angst, the hate to love romance, spicy scenes but what did I get?

A fast paced half story? With umm no plot? Wasn't Sofia supposed to be rebel one? Why didn't her actions said so? She just accepted everything easily. And there wasn't any chemistry buildup or any powerful scene between the leads. They married, had few conversations and then lived happily ever after. (coz we get epilogue very very soon)

Where was the erotica? One scene doesn't mean it's an erotic book.
Lord, what did I just read? This book delivered exact opposite of everything it was supposed to.

Forced Marriage Mafia Romance

Maxim and Sofia begin their life together as a result of an alliance between the Bratva and one of the Famiglia’s. While the book touches on some darkness, I don’t consider this a dark romance. The book is easy to read and is a great read. Like some of the other readers, I expected it to be a bit darker given the title, but the story does not disappoint!. I hope we hear more from this world and would love to read Lev’s story. This is the perfect book for those that love Mafia Romances, but have difficulty with the really dark aspects of some of them.

Sofia goes along with everything but its not long before she sees Maxim in a different light. Soon things heat up between them. Will this arranged marriage turn into something deeper between them?

I was so focused on Lev and how much I liked his personality that I had a hard time focusing on the main story. Here are my unfiltered thoughts as I read:
“She should have been with Lev
I wish this was a why choose
A lot of the chapters read like one big scene and not like distinct chapters
Her personality is giving bipolar
I do love that she’s not a prude. I was getting bored of that trope. A lot of the chapter breaks don’t have very good continuity. It’s either like a chapter was broken up randomly in the middle or that a chapter was skipped for length.
The pasta 🥹
I need more Lev what the fuck
He has like 5 lines
Omg Lev is so cute. I can’t.
I NEED A BOOK WITH LEV”

This book was sweet and deadly. At the beginning there was a lot of killing and action among the main characters clearly establishing this is a mafia book. The relationship or lack there of between the main characters made it seem like there was not going to be a HEA, but after a near death experience and a short hospital stay the romance kicked in to seal the happily ever after for this short but sweet book.

Maxim and Sofia are fireeeeeee! I absolutely love this book and could not put it down! It’s short but intense and it keeps you wanting to continue reading without putting the book down! It has action, grief, love, and all the juicy things!
