After the death of Queen Orlagh, the once Seelie Queen of faeries, and her evil henchman King Eldon, king of Zoanthia, trouble brews in the faery realm. While the Seelie and Unseelie courts struggle for peace under the new rule, a monstrous faery takes control of Zoanthia.
Colleen O’Brien, High Priestess of the New Orleans witches, is fed up with faeries threatening her city. Her friends defeated the key players. Life should be back to normal. Yet, the good times haven’t started to roll. Instead, humans and fae are captured and killed all over the city as the vampires reestablish their government, and fearful witches punish innocents. Colleen must do what she can to establish peace for her friends, New Orleans, and the faeries in Elfrice.
But must she do it with Niz, the rakish, insufferable nix that has been a thorn in her side for almost twenty years?
Southern-born Victoria Clapton is no stranger to writing. She completed her first book of poetry at age eight and her first novel at age thirteen. Multilingual, friend to all creatures, (and in particular, especially a friend to cats in need of rescue), Victoria is a forever curious world traveler with a mysterious knowledge of things and places that encompass many lives ago, an avid collector of saga books, a practicing vegetarian and yogini with her feet well balanced in earth’s splendor. She and her cat companions enjoy all things Viking, faery, vampire, new writing instruments, herbology and anime.
I have enjoyed THE BINDING universe series from start to finish, with powerful, interesting fae, vampire and witch characters and a neat setting in New Orleans as well as fantasy realms. COLLEEN UNBOUND was a great book with a water magic theme and also some cool Irish magic lore. Colleen, a water witch, has a tragic past that we learn more about as her backstory is slowly revealed. Her fated mate Niz is a water fae and there may be more to him than what we initially see. I loved their shared magic connection and bond. Some wonderful scenes in this, particularly BBQ in New Orleans, and the library scene! I loved once we traveled to the underwater realm. Such cool world building and a wonderful ending to the series! 5/5 stars.
Just finished this book and already thirst for more tales of Voodoo, Witches, Vampire and Fae. Victoria Clapton weaves these tales of New Orleans and the Faery realms so well that they seem like old friends and when the book is done you lust for another visit and perhaps a bowl of Al’s Gumbo. Read it!!!! Devour it!!!! Enjoy the ride :)
This was such a good read. It told me the story of colleen and it was perfect especially the end. Colleen got what she finally deserved.. So glad I find this series. Its a must read
