There Be Dragons

In October 1900, two Greek sponge-diving ships were forced to shelter along the eastern coast of Antikythera Island, an insignificant speck of land home only to goats. Anchored for two days waiting for a storm to pass, divers discovered sunken remains of a shipwreck dating to the second century BC. Among the many precious artifacts recovered was a mysterious device consisting of thirty-seven interlocking gears. Now dubbed the Antikythera Mechanism, it was initially thought to be a mechanical calendar, but its origin and true purpose have never been fully elucidated. The ancients who made it, however, knew and used the mechanism’s powerful the ability to predict the occurrence of time portals. Nicomedes, a gifted young student of the famous mathematician Archimedes, is lured forward through one of these portals to a university campus in the modern day. Unknown to Nicomedes, and those who accompany him, they have been brought forward two thousand years to play a vital role in helping save humanity from itself. Orchestrated by the Moirai, the three Greek Fates, the plan takes an unforeseen and near-disastrous turn, but help comes from an unexpected quarter.
