From award-winning Lisa Kumar comes a contemporary fantasy romance novella of a banished elvin lady who gets a second chance at life--and love--in the arms of a sexy human doctor.
Freshly banished to Earth from the elvin land of Eria, all Alalise wants is a new start—no males needed. When a sexy single father crashes into her life, a bond she never thought possible forms between them. Will this human doctor be able to capture the heart of a reformed temptress, or will the baggage of their pasts end their relationship before it has truly begun?
Content warnings: this novella mentions past sexual abuse and a current ring of human trafficking and drug use, but nothing is overly graphic. This story contains adult content.
This story was previously published in the anthology Wicked As She Comes. The Mists of Eria series is suitable for lovers of elf/fantasy romance and fans of Sarah J. Maas, Elise Kova, and Miranda Honfleur.
I'm a mother and romance writer who grew up in small-town Indiana. I studied psychology in college and worked off and on in the mental health field over the years. I now reside in Southern California. When not spinning tales of romance and fantasy, I can often be found with my nose buried in a book. I also love going for walks with my youngest son and taking Zumba classes. One of my stories, Bound to the Elvin King, won Ind'Tale's 2015 RONE award for best Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
2.5 stars It was OK, the writing isn’t bad, but this story should have been longer. Things felt very rushed. The story had started to pick up and then it just ended. Characterization was very inconsistent. For example, one chapter she’s thinking she doesn’t like kids, two chapters later, and without any interaction with any kids, she's prepared to be a mother. Alalise acts cold at the beginning, but then she finds out Hayden might be her fated mate and all of a sudden she’s all lovey dovey. It was way too fast, so everything feels very shallow. Alalise is very unlikeable in previous books, but there was no development here, we're just told she's nice now. It felt like a different character. Finally, this has so very little magic that removing a few sentences it could be a contemporary Romance.
What a great story featuring wonderful characters and bringing in the past characters was brilliant. I absolutely loved this book and would thoroughly recommend it hoping others enjoy it as well. Banished to Earth Alalise is surprised by the way she feels so attracted to Hayden when she meets him. Looking after his daughter and protecting her from her mother's bad decisions is what Hayden does while looking at ways to get full custody of his child. Can these two people be the solution to all their problems as fated mates.
The story was great, but I wish the transitions had been smoother. I think this book should have been longer to include scenes that were skipped over like them talking with police the morning after. The sudden jump from them being so hesitant to them jumping into a relationship was just to soon and didn't seem realistic (given this is fantasy I know that probably doesn't make sense). The plot over all was good, and the spice level was minimal but perfect for me.
Maybe it's me, but I prefer the human female x mythological creature then the other way around. It's short and to the point though, a good palette cleanser.
