On September 27, 1986, Grace moved into her newly renovated home with her parents and little sister. The home was her mom's dream house. Until the nightmares started.
Forty years before, the town of Bakersfield covered up the murder of Sallie Bell and her daughter, Juno. Thought to be a witch, the town leaders burned her house down with Sallie and Juno inside. The house was eventually renovated and the Bell land turned into a new subdivision. The people in town knew, though, that Sallie Bell never left.
Once Grace and her family move in, things start happening. The boy two houses down, Logan, says it is because Sallie Bell won't let the house rest. She wants revenge.
And she will start with Grace's little sister.
What happens when a town tries to cover up their sins, and how will Grace and her family survive when they stop behaving like themselves?

This book was badly in need of a good editor. So many grammatical mistakes and typos that distracted from the story. And the writer apparently kept forgetting what year the story was set in. The first page says it is set in 1986, yet there were multiple times the teen main character had a mobile phone. Once she checked the time and another she used the flashlight. (Two pages earlier she said she wished she had brought a flashlight so I guess she time traveled a few decades to get a mobile phone?)
I only finished it because I was reading it with my daughter and I kind of enjoyed pointing out all the mistakes.
Despite being left wondering what happened to Logan and the issue of it being 1986 and the MC having a cell phone, I LOVED THIS STORY. It was classic Kelly. I had chills from the very beginning of the story. In fact, I devoured the book in one day.
Sallie Comes Home was a great spooky month read, and included ghost story tropes and edge of your seat scenes that will please upper mg and ya readers. Kept me guessing till the end.
It could be 5 stars, but I did not like the abrupt ending. What happend to Logan? I would want to know that. I was very sad that Kelly did not put another chapter about that, to bad.
