Orc Warlord

Orc's Captive Bride

Rate this book
I used to believe in destiny. But I’d always hoped that destiny would be kind… not this. Kidnapped on my wedding day by a band of lawless raiders intent on securing their own piece of history, I’ve been stolen away to be set at the mercy of an orc who has never heard the word. The leader of the Adid Rebels, Manus is an orc who believes that a wealthy bride will make the elvish lord of Medober recognize his claim to his father’s legacy. Escape seems futile, but I’m stronger than I look, and there may yet be a way to save myself and escape whatever cruel fate Manus has planned for me. Even if the lord does recognize his claim, that doesn’t mean he’ll let me live… I only have one ally, but I don’t know if I can trust him. Durz has his own agenda, but I’ll do whatever it takes to survive this. Orc’s Captive Bride is a dark fantasy romance. It contains dubious situations, mature content, and graphic violence some readers might find offensive and/or triggering. Here be monsters…

Again, the reader is doing a lot of waiting around with the character who isn't doing anything.

Okay, look, I know I'm supposed to let this go because of the genre and because I know what to expect or whatever.... But the squicky dub con-ness of the relationship is just real creepy up in here.

The woman is literally being held prisoner. By carrying on with her, Durz is only endangering Edyra while NOT AT ALL trying to help her escape. I have serious issues with this guy. He gets butthurt and disappears for days at a time whenever she lashes out at him a little bit. She is forced to rely upon him for absolutely everything and none of his comrades can be trusted to even feed her regularly. This is emotional and physical abuse and neglect. Gross.

He's literally one of her her captors and she sleeps with him to gain his assistance in helping her escape. AND HE'S PERFECTLY AWARE OF THIS. And not only that, but this simple act "ruins" her in this society. He knowingly takes that tainted offering and, frankly, doesn't compensate her for it. It is NOT a nice story.

The worst part is that Durz doesn't even need to be gradually introduced to the error of his ways or become disillusioned from Manus's cause. He already hates Manus and has been biding his time for-f******-ever. He's not trapped here by circumstance in any way. He has always had choices. Ugh. Durz, dude, what is the matter with you?

3.75 again BUT I've just finished the third book and that one gets a 4. Only SJM has received 5 from me sooooooooo just saying ya know.

Aaaanyway, I didn't like Edyra right from the get go and when I realized this one was only about her, i just about gave up. And Im glad I didn't because Druz more than made up for what I felt was lacking in my connection to Edyra.

This one wasn't fast paced and is mostly set in a stone hut. There is some violence towards the FMC and I usually don't like a surprise pregnancy but I didn't mind this one. Mostly because the pregnancy wasn't the main plot and the relationship didn't hinge on it.
The author has done some real good work here. The spice in this book was used more to show the budding relationship between Edyra and Druz and it was used appropriately and wasn't overly graphic.

If you really wanted to, you could easily skim over this part and you wouldn't miss much.

I liked this one slightly better than the first, mostly because I liked Eryda more than Mae. I will say I was very confused because I went into this assuming Manus—the rebel orc warlord who kidnapped her—was the romantic interest, so I was VERY surprised when he choked her. Turns out, not the love interest!

Instead, there’s a bit of Tristan and Isolde type thing here, where Manus’s brother and compatriot Durz falls in love with her & cares for her in her captivity. I will say I would have preferred more romance & less scenes about, like, washing in the river or eating shitty food.

The Travails of Edyra

Edyra has had about as much luck as the 9th Marines had along the DMZ.
Like the first book, ‘Orc’s Unwilling Bride,’ the story moves along quite well with a large cloud of mystery unresolved. Well written. I’m turning to book 3 as soon as I finish this review.

Super enjoyed it! Short, interesting plot and the spice is good enough. Only thing I didn't like was the FMCs. Kinda annoying how they keep wanting to break the rules and be independent women lol. No. Pls I'm not insisting on running into danger. 😂

The story continues...

Your heart will cry for all that Edyra has to endure in her captivity. The plot line is intense and has a few surprises. If you have a hard time with abuse read with caution.
