Blair Graves #1

The Haunting of Solomon House

Rate this book
Blair Graves’ father went missing seven years ago.

The legal death of her paranormal radio host father tilts her world sideways on its axis. When no will can be found, Blair is forced to adapt to a quickly shifting reality. One in which she’s forced to sell her family home.

When a historical fixer-upper catches her eye, she goes all in, hoping to escape her father’s legacy and the long shadow cast by his very public disappearance.

But when the house starts presenting more problems than just the creaks and groans associated with old age, Blair starts questioning what she knows about life, death, and what comes after.

When the very arrogant and handsome Cash Kelly--a ghost-hunting expert--offers his help, Blair is sure he’s the same kind of attention-seeking, conspiracy-promoting, dollar-chasing content creator hack as her father.

As she begins to question his motivations for helping her, the haunting escalates to a dangerous point, forcing Blair to confront the reality of the world her father believed in.

And what it means to be his daughter.

The X-Files meets Supernatural in this urban fantasy series about the strength of a father-daughter bond and how, sometimes, truth really is stranger than fiction.

Holy shitballs. I wasn't too sure what I was getting into when I started this one. I've never been a massive fan of the paranormal side of thriller/horror books, so I've always avoided them. But when the lovely Marnie sent me a copy of this, obviously I had to read it. I absolutely devoured this in one sitting. I've sat here so long, I have become one with the sofa, I may or may not have forgotten that I am supposed to feed my kids (jk don't come at me), poor sods had to fend for themselves today.
I have officially fallen in love with this story and the characters, and I'm dying to read the next book. Hell, I'm not even bothered that there is some romantic shiz building up. What has happened to me?
This is a must read. So get on it.
PSA: Do not read books about ghostly animals in the dark when you have a black dog. My poor boy snuck up on me, and I jumped so hard I'm pretty sure I levitated for a few seconds, and I nearly booted him across the room.

I loved this book and the characters! I know it’s described as being a cross between Supernatural and the X-Files and I adore that! I can see the similarities between Blair and Cash and Sam and Dean lol. This book was so intriguing and fun! Diving into book 2 right away!

Marnie is my go to when I want to read a thriller/mystery book and this one did not disappoint!

After Blair’s dad went missing 7 years ago, she sells his house and ends up buying the Solomon House. The Solomon house has a history of death and mystery, which Blair does not know about in detail until she starts seeing and hearing strange things. An investigator named Cash Kelly (who also happens to know her dad) ends up getting involved and what they discover and unravel - well, you’ll just have to read it to find out.

A troubled woman buys an old house with a dark history, and when strange things start to happen seeks the help of a paranormal blogger to investigate. This is a old style ghost story without gore, beautifully written with strong characters, an entertaining, involving plot, and a great ending. I loved the way the author brought the story to life. I would love to read more. Highly recommended.

"The Haunting of Solomon House" by Marnie Vinge stands out as a compelling and captivating debut in the Blair Graves Series, seamlessly blending elements of mystery, the supernatural, and family drama. Vinge skillfully crafts a narrative that draws readers into a world where the lines between the living and the supernatural blur, leaving a lasting impression.

At the heart of the story is Blair Graves, a character whose life is upended by the mysterious disappearance of her paranormal radio host father. The legal declaration of his death catapults Blair into a world filled with uncertainties and challenges, setting the stage for a riveting exploration of family secrets and the paranormal. Vinge's storytelling prowess is evident as she intricately weaves a narrative that balances the emotional weight of family drama with the allure of the supernatural.

The choice to sell the family home and invest in a historical fixer-upper adds a layer of intrigue to the plot, setting the stage for a series of events that go beyond the typical challenges associated with home renovation. The house itself becomes a character, presenting problems that extend beyond the physical realm, creating an atmosphere of suspense and unease.

Blair's journey is further enriched by the introduction of Cash Kelly, a ghost-hunting expert whose character brings a dynamic and intriguing element to the narrative. Vinge skillfully develops the relationship between Blair and Cash, infusing the story with a blend of skepticism, curiosity, and undeniable chemistry. The complexities of their interactions add depth to the overall narrative, keeping readers engaged and invested in the unfolding mystery.

As the haunting escalates, Vinge masterfully builds tension and suspense, prompting Blair to question her understanding of life, death, and the supernatural. The exploration of Blair's identity as her father's daughter adds a poignant layer to the story, delving into themes of legacy, truth, and the often mysterious nature of reality.

"Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction," and Marnie Vinge expertly navigates this truth in "The Haunting of Solomon House." With its well-crafted characters, atmospheric setting, and a perfect blend of mystery and the supernatural, this novel is a standout addition to the paranormal fiction genre. Vinge's ability to create a world where the unexplained becomes tangible makes this debut a must-read for fans of ghostly mysteries and family dramas alike.

Who or what is really out there? Find out in Marnie Vinge’s THE HAUNTING OF SOLOMON HOUSE.

When Blair Graves’s father is legally declared dead seven years after his disappearance, she needs to confront the memories of a man who played with the paranormal more then he played with his own kids. Her father, an AM radio paranormal talk show host has been missing for seven years and she is now responsible for deciding what to do with the family home. When her twin brother Blake runs into needing money for a gambling problem, Blair decides to sell the home and buy a new fixer-upper. The Solomon House was once a grand home where fabulous parties were hosted for the crème de la crème of society. The house was sold after a tragic accident during a July 4th party. After that it was a funeral home, but has now sat empty for years.

Blair moves in with high hopes of restoring it to some former beauty. With the help of her best friend, Noelle and her boyfriend, Hooper, Blair moves and settles into her new home. Almost immediately strange occurrences begin to happen, and Blair wonders if she’s made a huge mistake in her purchase.

Along comes another radio show host who held Graham Graves in high esteem, looking up to him as his mentor. Blair fights, her desire to allow him to help investigate her home until she just can’t take it anymore and offers Cash Kelly the chance to interview her about her father and look into what is happening in this home. As the two investigate the strange occurrences, they find secrets hidden all over the place that show glimpses of the reasons for THE HAUNTING OF SOLOMON HOUSE.

This is my second novel from Marge and the first Blair Graves novel. Miss Vinge has the ability to make you feel like you are creeping around dark quarters, and you just feel the breeze and hear the squeak of an opening door and floorboards. All of this makes for a very enjoyable, entertaining read.

I received a copy of this book for a honest review. All opinions are my own, and given voluntarily.

*Blair is facing a milestone that no one wants to ever have to face. The official date to declare her missing father dead. A not so gentle nudge from her estranged twin brother finds her forced to sell the only home she has ever know, and purchasing a home as a new beginning? A fresh start? A haunting she wasn't prepared for? With the help of a handsome stranger, Blair seeks answers to many of life's questions, but most importantly, how do I get these strange things to stop happening?*

On the surface, this novel is an absolute thrilling and fun story of a classic ghost hunt. You can read it just for that and have a blast doing so! I, however, am cursed with the gift of having to look deeper into every detail and once you crack the surface of this otherwise fantastic story, it becomes an even more haunting and beautiful tale of grief, loneliness, and moving on after tragedy.

It's very clear to me that this author knows how to write about grief. Not just any kind of grief, but living grief. The kind of grief that hits in such a different way because you have no closure, no answers, and only a million questions as to why? When we meet Blair, she appears aimless, like she is simply existing a world with too many "what ifs"? To me, this is a very real and raw representation of how grief can freeze a person in place. We as readers get to go on a journey with her, and experience her pain, deep longing, and crippling loneliness.

I would both recommend this book to both people who want an exciting thrill ride with the paranormal and those who also want to read deeper and experience the rocky ride that is grief alongside the main character. I am very excited to read more of Blair's journey and I hope that others give it a chance as well.

Thank you Yellow Truck Media for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Blair is a lonely woman who has had a rough life. Not knowing where her father ran off to, he was deemed legally dead and she was left to navigate life on her own. Her unstable twin brother only reaching out to her when he needed financial support. She had no other option than to sell the house that she grew up in and share the money with him. Leaving her without a home, she no other option than to purchase a new project home. What she found there were secrets harbored over many years. She enlisted the help of a YouTube content creator named Cash. Their journey together through the secrets of The Solomon House were exciting and ended up building an unexpected friendship.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It kept me interested from beginning to end. I felt connected to the characters and thought the supernatural writing was fantastic. It was believable and not at all cringy. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was there was a lot of repeating of the same words and scenarios. But overall, a great read! I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of Blair and Cash in the next book. Great job Marnie Vinge!

This was a great spooky read. I love paranormal books, but ghost dog??? Absolutely Yes!!! Blair buys a fixer upper house and starts seeing and feeling things almost immediately. Her father has also been missing for the last the last 7 years and before disappearing, he was into spooky things and hosted a show featuring things like ufo's, hauntings, Bigfoot.. all the spooks. Blair always wondered if one of those things led to his disappearance and while there is no conclusion to what happened to her father in this story, we do get a conclusion to the haunting happening in her house and why it is happening. Cash Kelly, who is also a paranormal investigator makes his way into her life claiming that her father was sort of a mentor to him and helps her with her ghostly issues. The story is set up great for the next in the series where they Cash and Blair seem to be going on a trip together and I can't wait. The story is captivating and well written and I absolutely loved the characters so far. Blair and Cash work well together and seem like there could be some sort of chemistry there. Also.. Blair has a twin who wasn't mentioned too often in the book, but I hope we get a little more history on him in future books. Definitely check this one out.

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for a honest review.
I was disappointed with this book as I was expecting more from the summary. Blair and her twin Blake's Father has been missing for seven years and now been declared dead. Blair uses her share of inheritance to buy a dilapidated large house to do up as a project which unbeknown to her is haunted and she sees ghosts and apparitions but is very skeptical. Her Father was working with the paranormal and she resented his work which took him away from the family. CaskKelly who worked with her Father contacts her for an interview for his programme and she reluctantly reaches out to him for assistance. The events that occur shed light on cold case murders from 100 years previously.
Can they get anybody to believe them and how do the consequences affect their relationship. It is a ghost story with a bit of romance but is highlights Blair as a sad troubled woman who resented her Father's work and highlights how it affected both her and Blake's childhood. It is actually quite sad how it has effected her adult relationships.

Basically about a woman trying to come to terms with her dad missing for 7 years and a broken relationship with her twin brother. She moved into a new house that’s enormous and also haunted.

Overall, I thought the book was okay. I was a little annoyed with the character going on and on about her dad for the first few chapters but I makes sense for the character since she is grieving. I feel like the second half of the book was better, however I feel like there was so much more opportunity with the haunting scenario. I wanted more spooky/spooky events!! I felt having a dog ghost was interesting but because the house used to be a funeral home, I felt there was a missed opportunity there to spook things up for sure! I did like the ending though because I always enjoy a nice wrap-up where things turn out okay in the end. I just needed more scary!!!

Note: I did read this as part of the author’s ARC team and agreed to write a review.

Murder Paranormal Mystery Suspense.
Murder Paranormal Mystery Suspense.
What I enjoyed most was the murder mystery paranormal suspense about this book. The lead up about how Blair Graves acquired The Solomon House establishes the foundation on lots of grief, anger, loneliness and just in general raw emotion. We as readers understand where she’s coming from and the denial of what is before her. It’s honest and heartbreaking. However, her plea for a friend and help comes in the gorgeous shape of Cash Kelly, paranormal believer and investigator. These two team up to solve a cold case that happens over a century ago thereby giving the unsettled spirits their restitution so they could move on. In itself, I got invested into solving Mrs Solomon’s murder along with Cash and Blair. Yes this does have a HEA. I can see this turning into a series but glad it is just one story. This was deep and emotional.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It kept me interested right from the start. There was so much going on throughout the book. The story was captivating and had me so engaged with it. I loved it. It was full of tension, suspense, mystery. I loved how they discovered the clues and figured out the mystery. I kept trying to guess ans figure things out with them. And the scene where it was what it could have been was so moving. I can't wait to continue Blair's story in the second book! I'd recommend this if youre into paranormal mysteries, ghost stories, and anything occult and unknown.
P.s. absolutely adored the addition of the chuffing animal.

I devoured this book in one sitting.
Blair Graves is a brilliantly flawed, relatable protagonist, and her search for answers about her father’s disappearance gives this haunting real emotional weight. Solomon House is creepy in all the right ways — atmospheric, not gimmicky — and every chapter ramps up the tension beautifully.

Cash Kelly stole the show more times than I care to admit.

If The X-Files and Supernatural had a book baby raised on ghost stories and heartbreak?
This would be it.

Already craving book two.

Blair has just bought a new house but when strange happenings begin she turns to Cash Kelly a ghost hunter who she can't seem to work out his motives and then the haunting reaches dangerous levels. I am not usually a fan of paranormal but this book has changed my mind. It's haunting, real and had me silently screaming, okay maybe not silently but quietly. The characters are down to earth which makes it feel more realistic and I really like Blair. A story that will have you hooked and jumping and questioning every little noise you hear!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I enjoyed this book, it was my first paranormal read.
The characters are relatable and down-to-earth. I loved seeing how Blair and Cash’s relationship grew throughout the book.

The paranormal writing was done very well and I found myself having to turn on a light so I wasn’t reading in the dark.

I did find the beginning of the book a bit too slow for my liking although I do understand that Blair was grieving it just was a bit too much for me. That is the only reason this book isn’t 5 stars for me.

I love a good ghost story!

This one is about a woman who buys a dilapidated house and finds herself haunted not just by the weird stuff happening in her house, but also by her own unresolved issues with the men in her life. And there are plenty of my favorite things in this novel: big dogs, solid best friends, the 1920s, spare prose, and creepy happenings and romantic tension all at once.

Recommended, especially if you're looking for a quick spooky read.

I received the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was intrigued by the title, but it kind of didn't live up to the name. The "haunting" wasn't much at all, and I felt it lacked in that aspect. I could sympathize with the fmc and her journey with grief. I wish there an epilogue, but I am noticing there is a second in the series, which I'll be reading for hopefully closure? All in all, it was 3 stars for me

Such a good story. This one has something for everyone! Blair has a missing/dead father. She had to sell her home. Her brother well he’s no help. She buys a fixer upper that comes with somethings she hadn’t planned for. Enter the handsome stranger.
This book has mystery, a bit of Romance and maybe a touch of paranormal.
It is definitely a thriller.
I definitely recommend this book.

This was a great start to what promises to be ab exciting series. The story follows Blair who is struggling to come to terms with her father's disappearance and subsequently being declared legally dead after seven years. The story flows smoothly and the haunting is quite descriptive pulling you into the story. I really felt for Hattie and the way she had been treated. Blair's Project Unleashes Secrets

So well written you'll hear the noises of the Solomon house in your minds eye. The suspense is killer and kept me glued to this book, but the secrets this house holds gave me the willies. I'm glad I stumbled upon this author and I can't wait to read more books by her.

I'm not a fan of paranormal stories typically but I will tell you this one drew me right in. I think the main characters feelings on the matter really helped in that aspect. I loved the characters who were very well developed and the writing style was phenomenal! I also liked how it leads into a second book, but without leaving you on a cliffhanger. Highly recommend!

I love this slow burn book, it had a ghost dog name Duke. This book is about Blair finding peace with the fact that she will never no what happened to her dad. Finding the truth about what happened in the Solomon house bw the couple. In the end there is some form of just, love, and peace in the house. Can't wait for her next book.

It’s an interesting story, well written a little scary. This is my 4th book by Marnie Vinge, I have enjoyed all of them.
