"Defied" follows the story of young Ave, who dreams of being able someday to travel the world with her shapeshifter best friend, Bes, and see all that's waiting for them outside their little town. But her hopes meet an unfortunate and harsh end when the tyrannical Vojka's army of Devoted raid her home, and destroy the normalcy she knew forever. Ave is forced to flee the town with only Bes and a mysterious little tornado that seems to be a manifestation of her own magic to help her, and soon stumbles upon a mysterious place sheltered by illusions... Guarded by an amethyst-eyed young man, with whom she develops an immediate bond of an ancient magical sort. Ave will have to learn to control her new gift, and determine whether she trusts her new soulbonded mate enough to trust him with her life.
This book was absolutely hilarious. I had the pleasure of beta reading for Persephone Steele, and. Oh. My. GOSH! I literally spat my tea once, after a particularly sassy line by almighty Ave. She's witty, sharp-tongued, and a lovely smartass. Definitely would want to meet her one day! But it was cutesy Bes who won my heart over. He's quite a bubba boy, and although my OTP looks more like a brOTP, I still have high hopes! All of the characters had me howling with laughter.
I really can't wait to see what Persephone has in store for the next installments in this series!

Fantastic start to a new series
I had never heard of this author and there were just a few reviews of this book, but I took a chance. Let me tell you now, this story is fabulous ! Loved the MC. She's hilarious with no filter, strong, and has a huge heart. All the characters are well written and unique. No Insta love, but a mutual appreciation and more organic growth. It's steamy, action packed, hilarious, with a great storyline. Can't wait for book 2!

Firstly, I would just like to say that this book is NOT a standalone. I somehow missed it was apart of a series so just throwing that out there in case anyone else also missed it. This book is hilarious and a definite must add to my re-read list. I am so excited to read more about the MC, her bonds, and the world in future books. This book mainly focuses on the MC and her forming relationships with her first bond along with her bonds sister and his best friend along with progressing her relationship with her own best friend.

Absolutely Hilarious!
I loved this book from beginning to end! I don't think I went more than a few pages without laughing or crying.
This book is full of hilarious hijinx, strong friendships, danger around every corner and magic that makes you grin.
This book had me gasping, crying, laughing and yelling. It gave me all the feels and I can't wait to see where the rest of this story goes. I have the feeling that this is just barely the beginning!

This one was not for me. I'm not really sure why others are praising the elaborate plotting, as I felt like it had many plot holes that needed explanation (see my reading comments/rants for more detail). Moreover, I just didn't care for Ave; she was over the top and annoying. She didn't act like an adult at all, and I have no idea why these men would be attracted to that. We got no explanation of relationship development for one of the harem; he just suddenly likes her and she likes him back. Lots of telling, not nearly enough showing. I'll be passing on the rest of the series.

This was a book I was not expecting. It was a breath of freshness in the RH genre in that it was not just an RH story, it was a well-crafted fantasy story that I can already tell will be an epic series. At times, I forgot that this was an RH story, which made those elements really stand out and they became more powerful and meaningful as a result. You would not expect this level of worldbuilding, plot, or character development from a first-time author; so, I am highly anticipating the next release in the series. I can't say it enough: this book is a breath of fresh air and creativity into this genre, and the author not only treats the reader to what we expect from an RH story, but also gives us an interesting fantasy world to live in while we experience it.

Couldn't get into it
I couldn't get into this one. Made it about 36% and just found it too silly for my taste. I was feeling it in the beginning, but I think when our heroine meets her first guy she just became to annoying for me. There seems to be some serious sh*t happening in her future and around her and yet this girl jokes and makes funny everywhere? And it's not even witty or remotely cute. Her inner dialog is also annoying. Ava's character just really turned me off.

Wow
This book is awesome. I can't wait for book two. It had comedy, and action, which is what i look for in most books i read. It's been a while since i have found a book that blend the two so well. Infact i woke up my daughter a few times from laughing out loud. I would definitely recommend this book.

READ THIS GEM!
I love this book! It had me cracking up numerous times. I fell in love with the main character and her inner monologue. So excited to learn more about this world the author has created. I will definitely be reading book 2 when it comes out!

My new favorite series and Author
I read Alot, and Love this genre... Your "book baby" was beyond words. I laughed till I cried, couldn't put it down, and was completely absorbed into this world. I am so sad it is over (for now!) The story was so unique, hot, Hilarious, heart breaking\ warming all at once. Please keep writing for my own sanity, I need your brain (Whizz and whatever other Amazing things you create) in my life!! Thank you for sharing this and I CANNOT WAIT for more!!

hysterical bits of architecture & inner monologue
I enjoyed the first book in this series. It has a steady flow, diverse set of characters, hysterical architecture, some really funny inner monologue from the FMC, and a couple of twists that were rather shocking. I am looking forward to reading the second book!

January 23, 2021Hands down, funniest book I have read in a long damn time. Totally relate to her use of humour as a coping mechanism, even in the worst of situations. You'd never guess this was from a debut author, but I'm glad she decided to write 'cause I can't wait for more. bring on book 2!

I was looking for a light- hearted book to read and saw a passage from this book in one of my book groups, and thought I would give this new author a try. So, okay, this is not really light- hearted like I was looking for, but the book did make me laugh several times. The FMC has an immature sense of humor that I can appreciate. I look forward to reading the next book when it is available. I hope the characters are developed even more and am curious as to where this plot will

Fun!
This is a high fantasy, but imbued with all the snark and verve of a modern paranormal. Set on a different world with multiple suns, it dances with familiar mythology while carving out its own path - one that seems to be leading to an epic battle of both the past and the future. Oh, and it is very much in line with the hero’s journey - even starting with an tragedy.
First person, limited multiple POV, though most is single POV. FMMM, RH, high fantasy. Not exactly a cliffhanger, but close. A “to be continued”.

A RH epic fantasy, you say?! Hell yeah it is! I honestly could not put this book down, and...I may or may not have re-read it at least 3 times already!
Full of highs, lows and suspense, all with a comedic twist, Ave's story is a phenomenal read! Each character has a heart wrenching and well thought out back story that leads to immense character development throughout the book. Connections between the characters all develop naturally and are consistent throughout.
I honestly could not express how much this book made me feel. The range of emotions that I experienced when reading this book was insane! Ave has a horrific start to her tale that would see anyone shutting themselves away to deal with the pain and heartbreak, but not her. No. Ave may have an innate sense of humour that simmers in the background, but that comes out full pelt when she is dealt shit cards in life. Humour can reach anyone in the darkest of spaces and Ave utilises that fully to help her cope with the heartache and agony that life has dealt her. Along with her sidekick Whizz, no-one can stand in the way of the dynamic duo.
I honestly cannot wait to read the sequel of this author's debut! Ave won me over from the very first page and has me pining for more! Pick it up now and read it for yourself, you won't regret it!

I thought this book was hilarious. I heard great things about this book, and I wasn't so sure with the description of the book....because a tornado with its own attitude just made be think, how does that work, so I took a chance like many others and I'm glad I did. It was funny and sweet. The FMC is a strong woman that loves to make jokes and pulling pranks. Definitely nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy life with the tragedy she has had to overcome. I think it was a good start to this series, hope to see more relationship building between her and her soulbonds as well as more plot building with the Devoted and her connection to why they are after her. Can't wait to see what this author has in store for us in book 2.

I really enjoyed reading this book! I felt a part of the crew with the jokes and teasing and fighting and pranks and I can't wait to see what they all get up to in the next one! I lived how genuine the relationships felt and how even though the characters were connected, everything didn't happen immediately. They were given the chance to develop naturally as the readers got to know them along with Ave. I'm looking forward to a new setting in the next book as well as the introduction of a new race and culture! I recommend reading this book if you love laughing and feeling connected to the characters.

Enjoyable Read
I really liked this book. I think the overall story is just getting started and there is so much potential. I am looking forward to the next book. I liked the characters a lot but with the FMC even though I liked her snarkiness her sense of humor was just a little too juvenile for me.

Got it on the first try
The author comments tell her trials on this trail and her thanks to all her supporters. They have started something very good. This story almost starts like fairytale. There's a prophecy. But our heroine never heard of it. I'm old so a 24 year old virgin with no clue and living and acting much much younger kind of threw me off. It is however a good story and great start. Will be awaiting more

Dnf @ 80% I just couldn't finish it. Ave is supposed to be 26 but I swear she acts more like 14. The entire book was very immature with very little plot and no character growth. I kept thinking it was going to get better but I was wrong. Waste of time!

Are we sure that Persephone Steele is a new author? Defied is a great start to a new series. I found it a little hard to believe a 25 year old being a virgin during any time period/world, but anything's possible.
The mc takes a little getting used to because she can be a little ridiculous. Once you get to know her, you can't help but laugh right along with her. I loved the characters, and laughed my husband awake when the mc found out what she and her friends got up to when they had a fun night out.
Overall, it's an interesting storyline with great characters, and a little slap-stick humor. I will definitely be continuing this series.
