Court Legacy #4

Eat You Alive

Rate this book
Vicious.
Vengeful.
Prick.

Ares “Wolf” Mallick has it out for me. He’s one of four self-imposed gods at Pembroke University, and unfortunately for me, I was on his radar well before that.

He single-handedly blames me for ruining his junior year of high school, and three years later, he’s come to collect. He says I owe him. He says he owns me, and he’s determined to destroy everything I’m working toward unless I bend to his will.

Dirty.
Rotten.
Faker.

It seems Ares is in need of a fake girlfriend. He says he needs a shield to keep his fangirls off his jock, and apparently, I fit the bill. He wants someone he can control and gives very few details beyond the initial ask.

Let alone where he was for most of last year.

It appears the big bad wolf has secrets, and he intends to use me to execute his schemes. If he wants someone he can control, though, he’s howling in the wrong place. I don’t break easy, and this phony relationship may prove to be just as much of a nightmare for him as it is for me. Ares “Wolf” Mallick and I can’t stand each other. So why, regardless of whoever’s watching our “fake” relationship…

Are we both having such a hard time keeping our hands off each other?

Eat You Alive is an enemies-to-lovers, fake dating romance that contains dubious consent and situations some may find triggering. Please see note inside the book for listed trigger warnings. The book is recommended for readers 18+ and is book four in Eden O’Neill’s Court Legacy series. Eat You Alive is not a standalone and is the first part of a duet. Part one also ends with a cliff hanger, so please be advised.

Author's Court Legacy is a spin-off series about the children of characters featured in Eden O'Neill's Court High and Court University series. It's not necessary to read the previously released series to enjoy Court Legacy. This is a new series that can be read completely on its own.

If you are as dumb as me and read this book thinking it's a standalone, it's not

i NEED to stop taking recomendations from tiktok, they always sound good and end up being awful

about the book:
- i liked the idea of the plot and the characters but the execution was a mess
- the author and i have very different definitions of what's right and wrong

Ares fucking sucks.

He's wishy-washy with his feelings - saying one minute he wants Fawn and needs to be with her and then the next dumps her like hot trash. He abandons her multiple times after sex and repeatedly degrades her. This goes on for the entire novel - all the way to the end.

Every single person in this book either makes weird, rapey comments to Fawn, says awful things about her weight or makes slut-shaming their main personality. Basically, everyone in this book is a fucking one-dimensional twat and I don't understand why Fawn had to look so fucking weak all the time. Ares doesn't even apologize for half the shit that he does to her. He just sticks his dick in her and calls it good.

If it's one thing that makes me burn like the pits of hell, it's bully romances where the lead acts like having sex with the love interest makes everything good.

This was just disappointing. Kind of growing to expect that from tiktok recs.

+ thank you eden for sending me this ARC!
+ bully romance, please check tw’s !
+ cliffhanger ending

“He’d ruined me, but what was worse was I wanted to be ruined. I wanted him. I needed him.”

frankly, i have come to the realization that eden o’neill could write her grocery list & i would absolutely devour it. i had such high hopes for this book and they were EXCEEDED.

this book not only has amazing tropes like forced proximity & fake dating, but as always, the writing was absolutely incredible. o’neill creates such a mesmerizing story, along with its intriguing plot, amazing characters and ASTOUNDING chemistry. ares & fawn are absolutely the definition of soulmates. they suit each SO WELL it’s unreal.

it’s only been a few weeks since i read the last book in sloane & dorian’s trilogy and i didn’t realize how much i missed these characters !! i missed wells & thatcher’s humour, their friendship, i missed sloane and her remarks, and dorian’s possessiveness. and wow did i miss ares, he’s most definitely a personal fav 🫶🫶

as for fawn, i loved her being a new addition to the group! she fits in so well, especially with her & sloane’s dynamic!!

i finished this book in a few hours and let me tell you, i need the next one NOW. that ending ?? still picking my jaw off the floor.

anywho, if i haven’t convinced you already —— GO READ THESE BOOKS!!!!

not putting spoiler warning bc i think people need to know more about this book before stepping into it so they can decide if it’s for them or not. plus it’s not really spoiling anything cause in this book…there’s nothing to spoil luv.

DNF 38% the bullying isn’t consistent in the sense where the H contradicts himself page after page, he really is a prick and in my mind not redeemable. and that’s saying something cause i’ve read some interesting shit. but this?…

h isn’t a pushover but at the same time she is, again, confusing. H let’s his friends be creeps to her and feel her up against her will at the BEGINNING OF THE BOOK, then continues to stay friends with them and ignore the fact that happened (she ignores it too) and then FINALLY steps in to help her…oh wait he didn’t help her, cause she’s trapped in there with him (literally what he told her) then has the nerve to ask her to fake date him or he’s gonna air out her dirty (mind you, VERY personal) laundry.

this is the reason i don’t read bully romances, enemies to lovers? eh sure, but bullies? hell no. i was bullied growing up and never in my life felt attracted to my bullies.

i wanted to give it a shot thinking it wouldn’t be as bad as penelope douglas’ books but i was wrong. so wrong. this is the first lengthy review i’ve done on a book ever, so yeah i’m pretty pissed. H is pissed at h for the pettiest reason imo, like there could’ve been worse but he’s just a big man baby who can’t control his emotions. it honestly wasn’t her fault, it was him -SHOCKER-

if anyone knows any GOOD bully romances that don’t umm hurt the h like this please lmk. cause this and PD’s books ain’t it. there’s that ongoing joke of “my feminism flies out the window for (insert book bf)” but like in the case of these kinds of books…stand up girl. please stand up. this asshat can’t be worth it, and most of the time it’s proven he’s not worth it over and over again and they still fall for him bc “my body can’t help it.” or “my mind says no but my pussy says yes”…so many SA victims blame themselves bc their body reacted, and they hate themselves because of that. this shit ain’t it. please have better idols in terms of romance, or just grow up and get a real sense of the world cause that’s pathetic.

I've previously read a book by this author that didn't go too well but I decided to give her another go. And now I know I'm not the reader for her. I decided to read this series out of order so that I could start with the book that stuck out to me the most and it was actually okay. I can't say it can be read as a standalone but there wasn't anything that confused me since I hadn't read the previous books.

My issues were more to do with the main characters and their story. Like the other book I read by this author I didn't believe the hate these characters shared. The thing that made them "enemies" seemed a little stupid since we didn't get a huge backstory on how it effected the hero much. And the bullying parts seemed like over the top reactions to that. I didn't see a connection between Ares and Fawn and they came off as really bland. The scenes where they hated each other I didn't believe they actually did and then the random turn to them liking, or at least being friendly to one another, again didn't seem believable.

Then we got a very sudden change near the end that then finished the book on a cliffhanger which I hated and I was just happy to be done with the book. I'm not mad I gave this author another chance and I can see why I've heard a lot of great things about her, but again, she's not for me.

A Friendly Head's Up...

This is not a standalone. This is the first book in a new series or duology and it ends ABRUPTLY.

Overall Rating: One ⭐️

Eat You Alive is all over my TikTok feed. I was hesitant to try it because I've been so disappointed by all the Dark / Bully reads lately. This one didn't disappoint in disappointing me either!

I like dark romances. I like bully romances. The line is different for everybody.

Unfortunately, this book crossed the line for me.

What I'm Looking For:
The men can be morally compromised—mobsters, murderers, monsters, etc. They cannot be physically or sexually abusive to the FMC and they cannot be a cheater. Those are hard lines for me.

When it comes to bully romances specifically, I understand there may be some pranks, harsh words, and humiliation. Especially when the story is set in a school. But there's a difference between being a bully and being abusive. If the harsh words have the FMC Googling therapists in her area or the humiliation is sexual, that crosses my line.

Bullying done right makes for a great read. Especially if the bullying is followed by intense groveling. I want the MMC so disgusted with himself over how he treated the FMC that he becomes a monk and spends the rest of his days pining or brainstorming ways he can redeem himself. That's the sweet spot.

If you're looking for the same things, this book isn't for you.

Also (and this is less important), the writing has to be good. The writing here was crap! I would read a line or paragraph and say out loud what?? before starting over because the words just didn't make sense. Ain't nobody got time for that shit.

Give this one a PASS.

Let me start by saying that I don't read college romances very much but this book by Eden O'Neill was pretty damn good!!! While I don't have much in common with 20 somethings I can remember and appreciate the angst and drama of being that young again. Wolf is definitely a alphahole with his good looks, money and powerful family backing and while he could be a total douche bag who not only used blackmail but force to make Fawn do his bidding he had moments of depth as well. . And even after he humiliated Fawn she still wanted to believe their was more to him.Especially after seeing his relationships with his friends and family which showed a totally different side to him. Both have their demons but finally they were starting to understand the other and between the hot steamy sex and enjoying each others company it looked like they'd had a shot at true love. What started out as faking a relationship became more and being a typical guy the minute the love word was used he totally flaked out and left Fawn not only broken hearted but feeling used. Both characters are very complexed and very strong willed which turns up the angst and flares their interactions keeping the storyline at a nice pace. I can't wait to read the second book Eat Your Heart Out!! If the teasers are indication its going to be a wild ride! In more ways then one!😉 Until next time Luv's💕💋

Most contradicting characters in a book ever!

This was a struggle to get through and the mmc's reasons and actions, and as a result the fmc is treated in a derogatory manner.

Eden has done it again. She ate and left no crumbs.
Ever since I first read Court High, Court university, and the first three books in Court legacy, I’ve been hooked.

First off please look up TW’s and also know that this is a bully romance. It also has a cliffhanger

You can technically read this book as a standalone, however I strongly suggest you read Court High, Court University, and the first three books in Court legacy, I say this because you will understand the group dynamics better and understand all the family trauma.

Eat You Alive follows Ares aka Wolf and Fawn as they navigate a fake relationship. If you’ve read the books prior to this then you are aware that the men in these books can hold a grudge. They also love to have their payback. Ares and Fawn met years ago, he claims she ruined his junior year of high school. As they cross paths again it’s the perfect chance to have revenge.

With knowledge of Fawn’s past Ares decides to do what our court boys do best, he blackmails her. He needs a fake girlfriend to keep everyone from constantly being around him, and she needs him to not spill her secrets.

During their fake relationship as we should all know by now the line between fake and real starts to blur, and their feelings for each other start to blossom.

I love how Fawn and Ares both have such distinct personalities. I loved reading them open up to each other.

I loved getting to read about their friend group because I missed them. It’s been too too long 😩. They made me laugh and I just want to be apart of their friend group. I loved their parents, I’ve missed them!!!

This book had me in a chokehold, I finished it in less than a couple hours and I’m already excited for the next book in this series!

Thank you Eden for sending me this ARC, I literally screamed when I got it.

Momma gave me eyes and this is what I did with them 🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪😩

This book literally just sweeps all domestic violence under the rug. Men are literally spending the entire time physically abusing Fawn and there are no repercussions for any of it. Sure, she gets mad. Sure, she gets distance. When the fights come up, she doesn’t even mention that Ares strangled her the night after they had had sex.

His POV doesn’t even feel bad about it.

As someone who was a victim of domestic abuse, the moment I see physical violence, the relationship is over. The fact that she continues worrying about him, especially since he’s been nothing but awful, actually triggered me to the point where I was shaking.

I can handle bully romance, but only if the abuse, physical and mental, is actually addressed in the story. This is honestly the most offensive thing I’ve read in a while, propagating male abuse in the worst way. It wasn’t hot, it wasn’t sexy, I didn’t have any fun reading it.

Fawn literally invites herself back in their stupid bargain to go on a hiking trip just DAYS after Ares STRANGLES HER, and she never even mentions it to him. In what world is that something someone would do? It was basically negating the humiliation, borderline rape, and abuse that he had inflected just pages before.

So it’s alright for men to do that so long as they are attractive, rich, and have big dicks?

She even missed him after that.

Ares is literally scum of the earth trash who manages to turn everything about him. When she finally comes clean about what happens to her dad, he manages not even let her go a couple minutes of speaking about it before he literally decides that now would be a good time to tell his own tragic backstory. He actually has the audacity to one up her.

They have absolutely no romantic chemistry, their time together and getting together doesn’t feel earned, and he’s not at all good to her.

Literally, this entire book is about Ares and his “tragic past” as if it at all excuses him for being the worst fuck boy to grace the pages of my kindle.

It is such a shame because I love Fawn, but it’s almost as if the author hated her for how little regard she gave for her own character’s backstory, feelings, and integrity.

This is just not a good book for me.

MAJOR alphaholes?! Fake dating?! Forced proximity?! Sign me allllll the way up 👏🏼

Where do I even start? This book had me in a chokehold from the very first chapter. I can’t remember the last time I binged a book in under 24 hours, but Eden has done it again!

Going into this book, I already knew I loved Ares but I was not prepared for THIS 🥵 He was ruthless and vengeful yet protective and passionate and I loved that we got to see so a more tender side to him. And the spice?! 😮‍💨 I’m still sweating tbh.

But THAT ENDING?! Ares’ story is being split into two books but I was not expecting THAT.

I am officially obsessed 🤩

Eat You Alive is book 4 in the Court Legacy series. Ares’ story can be read without reading the previous three, but it definitely helps to read them all!

This is a bully romance so check TW’s (listed before the prologue in the book!)

Is the writing a bit cringy??? Yeaaa….Wells calling Heath bro every 2 seconds while they’re hooking up made me laugh like I cannot take this seriously at allllll 😂 okay back to Wolf and Faun…okay I might have a soft spot for super hot tough guy being mean to annoying skinny chick who made fun of the plus size fake girlfriend but for a while he’s such a dick to her and then when he is nice it’s so short lived and I get why (don’t wanna spoil too much here) but damn my heart broke for Faun at the end and now I’m zoomin over to eat your heart out BYEEEE

I’ve come to the conclusion that there is a formula for horrible writing which includes 1) exposition dumping 2) inner monologues 3) badly written characters. At the basest of levels, this could have been a good story, but it is so far from that it’s laughable. I know so little about these characters by the end that this book is basically pointless. It is following the formula of a romance novel, but doing it so poorly that it is impossible to suspend disbelief long enough to think of these characters as real people. I could have loved this. I love plus-size romances, and this book even has a bisexual character that could have had so much character development, but instead he’s a one dimensional fuck boy like every other faceless friend of Ares. Even the initial reason why Ares wants to interact with Fawn doesn’t make sense. Not to mention the way his friends react towards her, which is violent, rapey, and so fucking cringe. I wanted so badly to like Ares, but he just kept being the most generic gym bro athlete on the planet. The execution of portraying “alphaholes” misses the mark so hard, it’s on another goddamn planet. They are not adult men who actually like women. These are adolescent boys who think exerting dominance over someone is “breaking them.” This may be a personal preference, but when I encounter a dominant character in a book I expect them to have more than just one personality trait. I also expect them to be decent human beings, and not dudes who have unfounded raging jealousy, have no understanding of bodily autonomy, and are cool with never addressing the trauma they inflict. Also, the “like stated before” made me lose my fucking mind. When has that ever been a thing outside of an actual live conversation with another human being, let alone a craft device in a book that other people are supposed to read? Why are you telling the audience that you’ve already stated something like they don’t fucking know? And it happens like 3 goddamn times. These characters never have a single real conversation. When something happens between them that is non-consensual, they never discuss it. It clearly bothered Fawn, but she gets past that humiliating trauma because he has a monster cock and is strong enough to pick her up. The list of infractions goes on and on. Don’t waste your time, or do— if you want to be mind fucked with a mental dildo that smells like a rape van parked outside of a sporting event.

I am…underwhelmed. Not sure how much of that is my fault for not reading this series in order, but I did not enjoy Wolf enough to deal with his abusive behavior. I did not find either of their backstories to be particularly compelling, and the story in general just fell a bit flat.

None of the hatred felt like it had roots - it was literally a petty high school misunderstanding. I prefer my dark romance with a bit more meat to the story, but if you enjoy quick-read bully romances you might enjoy this more than I did.

I am in such denial right now. There is NO WAY that Fawn is dating Bruno. I refuse, she can't. Ares and Fawn have so much trauma and they bond over it and they love each other despite what Ares thinks. Even in the other books he pushed the people he loved away and he's doing it again. I am currently mad at Fawn if she is dating Bru because there is NO WAY that she would do that to Wolf. If she did I don't know what I will do. Wolf has gone through so much and the fact that he has cancer kills me because this poor kid has been through enough. I am so excited for the next book oh my god. I love the nickname Red so freaking much and Red and Wolf better be happy by the end of this series. It made me so happy to see Dorian and Sloane happy together, it really warms my heart. I am so excited to read the next book!!

I have literally no clue what I just read…

This whole thing started off as a train wreck. Physical and verbal abuse turned into romance turned into controlling enemies to lovers? I think?

Don’t even get me started on the ending, because it literally just ends directly in the middle of a scene. The feeling of realizing that was the end would even the same thing if you were watching a movie, and in the middle of a sentence it just stopped.

The smut in this wasn’t even good. It was always borderline abusive, which don’t get me wrong I understand the whole like “kink” factor. But there were a few sexual assault/borderline rape scenes that made you just question everything in this whole book. Including why it was even written and published in the first place.

This was probably my least favorite thing I’ve ever read.

Received an ARC for this book. I was looking forward to reading about Ares/Wolf because he was one of the intriguing alphas in the pack of the legacy kids.

I enjoyed this read. I read it in one sitting. Though I wasn't totally blown away like I expected to be— considering this was WOLF who we're reading about—I found it an enjoyable read.

I did, however, skip ahead because there was a lot of "telling" and sorry, I just don't do well with the massive info dump in story lines.

Eden is one of my absolute favorite authors. I love how I can picture each of the legacy kids and their individual looks and styles. She paints them beautifully in her books. I don't know, but I just wanted a little more depth. At times, it felt either jarring or forced. Somewhat surface-level when the writing was trying not to be.

I found Fawn likeable. I liked she was ambitious and smart. And Wolf, well, he was just Wolf. Aggressive, masculine and depraved.

Can you imagine my motherfucking HEARTBREAK when Wells' encounter was captured in all his A$$ fucking glory? It literally had me **convinced** that there is no way Wells and Bow are going to have the loveable union that I've created in my mind because Wells was written in a way where he leans more to the male-loving side. Which is fine if you're into that, but damn. Maybe Eden will convince me otherwise?

I love this author, and there is nothing that will stop me from devouring her books. I just wasn't blown away and was so-so imo. The legacy crew leans a little more to the darker side of romance than the Court crew I find. Maybe we'll get softer, poignant touches with Bow's story. Because out of the crew she seems the meekest, and more unique in that she's shy and indifferent.

**I RECEIVED AN ARC FOR THIS BOOK AND AM VOLUNTARILY LEAVING MY REVIEW.**

this was the best bully romance i've ever read and i gave this 1 star so that says a lot
it was the best cause she wasn't a fucking pushover - yes she was attracted to some of his bs but she didn't let him walk completely over her - so respect from me babes

but the conflict and the whole fake dating this was so confusing and seemed pointless
like bruh really - the author couldn't come up w something more angsty and reasonable for HIM to ask HER to fake date

also it's wasn't consistent like he would say something and then a page later he would say something that contridicts that ??!?!!?

omg you know what i fucking hate w passion WHEN GIRLS SAY I LOVE U FIRST
GIRL STAND UP !!!!!!!!!
bruh she was too nice at him in the end

and OMG i read the bonus chapter for the ending and i had a feeling that's who bru was but wtf don't tell me she's gonna date him ?!?!?!?!? why?!?!?!?!!?

anyways i'm still gonna read the next one cause even tho didn't like this i'm a nosy bitch and i wanna know what happens lolllll

The Court Legacy is shaping up to be just as brilliant as the other Court series books before this. Ares/Wolf's book was a cracking read and a great addition to to this series. Ares and Fawn have a checkered history together. So when Fawn enrolls at Pembroke University Ares has revenge in mind but it comes in the form of making her do exactly what he wants any time he wants her too. They both work out that events in lives have run parallel and that they both have had traumatic events that have tainted the life their living now. I may have not liked some of the things or some of the ways Ares/Wolf treated Fawn (he needed a good slap for some of it) but apart from the steamy parts i liked the dynamic they had. Fawn was no pushover and she gave as good she got!! That ending was just knockout too and with the bonus chapter they completely floored me. It definitely made me more eager to get my hands on Ares and Fawn's next book

So, my best friend discovered this book on tiktok. The scene that was highlighted was AMAZEBALLS. It was an instant must read. I mean, enemies to lovers? Hell yes! Bully romance? Absolutely!

But this went south fast.

While I love enemies to lovers, and I've been into bully romance lately, this one...was just too much. I just felt like Wolf crossed the line to abusive. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. Add in the fact that this ends in a cliffhanger and, well...I'm out. I didn't like the book enough to want to know what happens with Wolf. I will say that Fawn deserved better.
