Solid series but seems to have flattened out a bit over the last few books. The characters are fairly static effectively acting and saying the same things over a dozen books - Gerd's hungry, Egil with the "fantastic" and "irrefutables", Camu speaking like a 4 year old still, Viggio bragging.... Small attempts are made of moving them forward, but they're sporadic and a bit out of left field. Also, wish the writing got a bit more sophisticated. I know it's a youngish adult series, but you'd like to see the writing progress a bit.

I enjoyed the series, but feels like it should wrap up in 3-5 books. The "gang goes on adventure" stuff is fine, but after 16 books it starts to turn stale.

Favorite in the Series So Far
This book brings the dragon pearl thread to a close, in an unexpected way.

The team reunited with Gerd, who is not 100% but good enough.

The team reveals what they have discovered thus far to Gondobar, leader of the rangers. They get approved to investigate further and try to gather enough evidence to prove the existence and characteristics of the threat, which is too fantastic for most to believe.

In the early parts of the book the team breaks up into smaller units, taking on various tasks assigned to Egil to investigate the mystery. Meanwhile Lasgol and Camu or focused on magical training. There are long expositions where the leader of the ice wizards is tutoring them and explaining how the various facets of magic work. Not a rigorous sytem by any means but at least some concrete guidelines and rules.

Lasgol and Camu both solidify their existing skills, find out what level they are at, and also develop one new skill each (ice breath for Camu, enchanted elemental arrow for Lasgol).

Viggo and Ingrid's relationship continues its awkward progression. Astrid and Lasgol hardly get any time alone together.

The investigation, teamwork, and follow through leading up to the end game are fun and have some surprises. it is more plausible now that the team has sanction to spend time investigating, rather than how they previously mysteriously always managed to have enough time to spend most of it on non-job-related projects.

The story concludes with the fallibility of the team, self-analysis, and an unlikely surprise and cliff hanger.

The pieces have started coming together about a threat to all Trevia regarding the return of the ancient power that is prophesied to destroy all Trevia. Astrid’s Uncle and his Defenders of the True Blood and the warlock Drugan’s Visionaries are in the middle of it all. But Gondabar won’t believe them and take it to the king until they get solid proof. So, while Lasgol and Camu receive secret magic training from the head mage Eicewald, the others split up and follow the various trails to find more proof.

Meanwhile, the Royal Princess of Irinel has arrived at the capital and it’s rumored that there will be a Royal Wedding. Unfortunately, Princess Heulyn hates the panthers for their insolence at her unwanted return back to her parents.

I feel badly for Ona. Camu gets all the attention, but it’s Ona that is loyal, obedient and almost as smart. He’s just not a flashy as Camu. I think I’d prefer to be with Ona.

Footnote: 1) Their conflict between the the East and West is like our war between the North and the South.

Fave scenes: Lasgol’s protection skill, Lasgol & Camu’s mage grades, Nilsa & Astrid invading the fortress and Camu, Ona & Viggo defending the ramp.

Redundant and Repetitive

This book is the worst of the series. There is too much detail about magic. You have to skip most of the book to make it through to the end, and Viggo is an absolute bore continually calling Lasgol a wierdo. We heard you the first 627 times. He seems to never mature. Lasgol constantly berates Camu for stubbornness. OMG! This writer had a great storyline but has butchered it in every single book. There is way too much detail about the rangers' mundane, everyday life.

A Good Book Progressing the Story

This book in "The Path of the Ranger" has a slower pace than most of the books in the series. Much of the book is devoted to Lasgol and Camu learning the principles of magic and developing new skills. The rest of the Panthers continue the hunt for the leaders of the two sects and the dragon orb. The expected action finally arrives at the end of the book. I recommend this book.

After searching high and low the panthers finally found what they were looking for and followed the fanatics and their slaves to a new area they'd not been to before and will have to admit it was something for which I didn't think would happen but it did. The Panthers completed some of their goals but now they have a much bigger problem that they will have to deal with sometime in the future. Only the Ice gods know if they will be up to the task to finish it.

Get through it

I'm obviously invested in this series at this point but at times I feel in just trying to get through it rather than focusing in the enjoyment simply because of the repeated information that has been mentioned 100 times but is presented as new. Honestly if the author focused on the story more than repeating information that is obvious to a 6 year old, you could have done this in 10 books of about the same length or less. The author is very talented and has a great story, it just moves too slow.

my first spoilers review
Glad the Snow Panthers couldn't stop the reincarnation of Dergha Sho Blaska the immortal dragon. Can't wait to see what plan they create to eventually defeat it. well, I'm assuming they will. Gerd returns to the team, which was nice. Honestly this whole book could have been shorter if the endgame was the same and The Immortal Dragon still being reincarnated. If they would have stopped the reincarnation, I would have rated this book a 3/5. Onto the next book.

Good story, not so great writing

The storey is good and the characters are likable, but the author is a little too descriptive at times. Everything is great or grand or arcane. Overuse of certain words gets very repetitive. All in all, a good series, but the author needs a bit of work on their writing style

Book 15

The series has devolved a bit and the MC spend most of the time running around then so happen to get back together to save or find something. Book 15 was very redundant and split the characters into finding more about the dragon and cult. In the end and after running around the continent they find what they are looking for and ultimately fail.

No longer enjoyable.

Past due for a conclusion which seems no where in sight. Character and storyline development has stalled. This and past three books appear to be fillers to extend the series. Skimmed most of this book. Very repetitive and not up to standards of initial books. Unfortunate. Time to move on.

I thought this story was better then some in the series but not the best I understand he needs to explain learning magic but god does he do it in the most boring way I wish he would move away from the school topics as I have said in the past but I’m actually excited for the next book with the ending of this book

Exciting and Great Read

I am still thrilled and enjoying these books. Ruby's narratives are so full of clarity that I feel as though I am a part of the action. I find myself rising and fighting along with the Panthers. The descriptions and active scenes are so descriptive and well played. It is obvious that Urvi's time in military service has served him well.

... Mi puntuación: 2.5 / 5

While I’m willing to recommend this book I must disclose to you that I’ve read all 20 in the series. The last book is an unmitigated disaster. The author was clearly tired of the work and just gave up. You can enjoy the journey if you want but trust me when I tell you that you will be utterly devastated. I can’t get over it. I’ll never read another one of his books again. You have been warned

And the dragon becomes a reality!

I am deeply invested into completing this series until book 20! Enjoying the Panthers mind set and always wishing for them to complete their adventurous missions successfully. How will the Panthers deal with the dragon leads me straight into book 16, The Druid Queen.

not as good as others

To much technology training. This is book 15. Would prefer more action not learning and training. This one got boring. Not excited about book 16 at all after this one

I would’ve rated this book higher except for one thing that just doesn’t make sense to me. Why didn’t Camu cancel the magic of the orb? They have shown him cancelling magic before, including magic of those a lot higher in grade than him. Why then didn’t he even try in this book?

The Saga Continues.

The Panthers continue with their adventures. This volume, like some of the others spends several chapters involving the lessons the Rangers are learning in minute detail, which I frankly skimmed through…..

Rise of the Immortal

Another great book. The Snow Panthers have stumbled on a group of fanatics that are trying to bring back an immortal. They are trying to stop them but always seem two steps behind. Will they succeed? These books keep one turning the pages.

This was a leveling up novel. Lots of character growth and set up for the next book. It’s not your normal novel structure, but after 15 books I clearly like the characters and deviating from standard story telling is acceptable.
