The balance breaks, and the land of Nora seethes under the late summer sun. Men fight monsters, women turn to horrors, and the Ilim stand debating in their lofty halls. In the city of Kor, the rebels struggle to find a path out of the shadows and into the light, to hold what little they have gained. Yet the wars of innkeepers and princes may cease to matter soon enough. For the blood gods plot in twisted whispers, a new champion arises, and a strange, grey haze grows on the land, enthralling man, woman, and Ilim alike. And love at last will meet its limit.

4.5 stars - as I was reading, I kept thinking, “wow I can’t believe this is where this story has gone.” It was a good thing. I appreciate the creativity, staying true to the book’s themes and characters while also branching out to make this book unique - all while moving toward wrapping up such an epic story. This is just the sort of book I’m looking for in fiction/fantasy. Adventure, love, courage, while not pulling any punches about the danger and darkness that challenges these things. Really well done.
