Falling
In 1970 when Jasper Johnson, world traveler and playboy extraordinaire, is unceremoniously dumped in drab Three Falls, Tennessee, he feels as if he has somehow tumbled from grace. Like a grape plucked too soon from the vineyards of Chateau Montaigue or a pebble loose from a mighty rock atop Mount Kenya. What does any of this mean? And does his restoration lie with a woman? He can’t imagine it would.
The very capable and highly desirable Karen Stone is dissatisfied with her job, her school, and her life in general. Leaving Chicago, she comes to All Saints Negro Christian College. Here she hopes to find more than textbooks and human intellect can provide. Karen wants to know why, the reason for all things, past, present, and future. Something has to lie beyond this dimension. Will an unlikely meeting with a strange man aid or hinder her quest?

I love this book because it deals with human frailties. It delves into what happens when life circumstances shatter our perception of self.
In this story, strong-willed Karen and world-wise Jasper have to redefine who they think they are and see if their new identities are yet compatible.
Question: are the answers they seek within or without? I believe as humans, we all come to a point when we ask the same.
