This book was subpar. I didn't find myself 'getting lost in it.' I honestly expected more of a climax, but the book was more of a flat line. Consistent with the friends adventures, but nothing much more than that. If somebody were to ask me if this was worth the read I would say wait until the end of the summer after your summer TBR list is drying out then MAYBE it would be worth picking up. Then again there are so many other awesome summer books that have recently released or that are releasing soon so maybe just shelve this one for awhile.
When Justine Emerald passes away suddenly, her three friends, Valerie, Michelle and Lisa gather to say their goodbyes. They soon find out that Justine had a request for them in her will, and that was that the three of them embark on a holiday together to all of Justine’s favourite places.
As the friends leave on their journey, they start to question how Justine died and vow to find whoever is responsible. As they become more suspicious of Justine’s ex-husband, they start trying to gather information in the places they visit. Throughout their trek across the country and back, the three women also realize they are on a journey of self discovery. Each woman must face her inner self and do some deep soul work. As they begin to find the answers they are searching for, their personal lives and friendship is on the line. Will their friendship survive the trip?
Amelia Addler has brought us a fabulous stand alone novel with the Summer Request. I loved the depth of the characters and how she gave us four unique and complex women. I found a commonality with each of the characters and enjoyed each of their stories. The story had emotional moments but also gave us moments of laughter while the friends were sleuthing throughout the novel. A huge thanks to Amelia Addler for the gift of the book. I voluntarily read and reviewed the book and friends this is one you want to tuck into your book bag this summer.
The Summer Request starts a new series with heart, humor and suspense. Three best friends on a road trip to spread the ashes of their friend who died much too young. This well plotted book held my attention from beginning to end. The friends have trouble because no one seems to be talking about how their formerly healthy friend died so suddenly. As they take the trip Justine planned, they start investigating. There are several very funny moments as these women renew their relationships, mourn their friend and plan revenge on her ex-husband. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey.
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Good story The characters were wonderful and their interactions were realistic, complex, and fun to read.
The story seemed very involved. There was not only the past and current relationships between the friends, but their individual relationships with their families, the mystery they are investigating and all of the crazy situations they find themselves in.
Justine has died. Her lifelong friends had gone their separate ways but Michelle, Val and Lisa come back for Justine’s memorial and reunite for a trip planned and paid for by Justine. Questions surround Justine’s death and Val and Justine’s mother really think her ex-husband killed her. Val enlists Michelle and Lisa’s help in her investigating. Secrets the friends have come to light and Justine’s death has a way of uniting them all.
This is the story of three friends, Valerie, Lisa and Michelle, who get together to fulfill the last request of their best friend Justine. I enjoyed this story of self-discovery and detective work as they try to figure out why their young healthy friend passed too soon. There are some fun and poignant moments as only best friends can have. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Not the worst book i've read, but its not the best either!!! I nearly gave up on the book when i was halfway through teading it, but i decided to carry on with it! The main 3 lady characters in the book argued quite a bit which i found a bit irritating! But i did want to finish the book to see what happened! Don't think i would read another book by this author! Although i did like the ending to it!!!
I was lucky enough to receive an arc copy of this book. I love this author and have truly looked forward to read each of her books since I discovered her. This book is different than her other books in that it is a whodunnit. It has mystery, romance, intense friendship and moments of sadness and humor.
IDK why no description, but BookBub says: "When Justine passes away, she leaves a request that her three best friends spread her ashes on a glamorous beach trip. So Valerie, Michelle, and Lisa head out to sandy beaches and five-star hotels. There’s only one problem — they’re pretty sure Justine’s husband murdered her, and it’s up to them to prove it."
I didn’t know what to think going into this book. I thought it was going to be more of a thriller. It was more about three best friends and not so much revenge. It was an easy read though and I liked the authors writing style.
Loved it. So empowering. Great friendship story. Life after divorce and finding yourself again! This is 4th book I have read and loved them all. Thank you!
