Will Their Love Survive The Storm Of Time

All her life, Madeline Whitmore has had dreams of a man standing on a cliff looking out at the sea. While on vacation in Scotland, a sailboat cruise up the coast to Aberdeen becomes a nightmare when a sudden storm capsizes the vessel, and she’s pulled from the water by Iain Fraser, Baron of Glenburnie. The only problem is, she’s somehow landed in 1896 and doesn’t know how to get home. Even more disturbing is her attraction to Iain, and the desire flaring between them.

Iain Fraser lost his first wife to childbirth, and even though his twin daughters need a mother, he refuses to marry again as he’s unwilling to risk another life simply to sire a male heir. When he pulls Madeline from the North Sea during a terrible storm, she presents a mystery he can’t solve. The only thing he’s certain of is that his attraction to her is growing, and if he’s not careful he might just wind up with a wife he doesn’t want, but might not be able to live without.

This is a rather typical time-travel romance. The heroine travels back in time to the windswept coast of Scotland, where she is saved from drowning by a handsome Scottish Baron. The Baron, whose wife died giving birth, is father to twin girls. The story has al the aspects we would expect, although facets of the time travel are left unexplained. I would have rated it higher, but it makes to my pet peeve list due to the mixed up dialect and problems with characterization.

If you are going to write in dialect, it's important to get it right. Take this little snippet of a servant speaking to the Baron. “Ye supper will nae doubt grow colder if ye dinnae go down now, my Lord."
It should read "Yer supper will nae doubt grow colder if ye doonae go down now, me Laird."

[Explanation: Ye means you, not your. In dialect, your woud be yer, or maybe just the yuh sound, as in Y'supper. Dinnae is dialect for did not. Do not would be doonae, or even doona. In dialect, my would be me, and Lord should be Laird. (Yes, I realize that looks confusing)]

The Baron constantly slips in and out of dialect. He uses ye for you, then in the same sentence says you're instead of ye're. Then a few pages later, he drops the ye altogether saying "I dinnae ken what you did, lass, but thank you.” Caring so about getting the dialect right may seem picky, but for those who know the difference, this kind of thing takes one right out of the story.

The other issue with this story is the way Madelyn speaks to Iain. In one scene, his daughter has gone down to the site of the shipwreck. It's dangerous, and he's immediately going to head down there to find her. But, Madelyn physically pushes him down into a chair, and angrily orders him to stay. This is because he is just getting over a headache. Then she tells his othed (10 yr old) daughter to keep an eye on him until she returns, and that she's not a nice person when she's angry. To top it off, in front of the child she says “I won’t think twice about ripping you a new ass, if you don’t do as I say.” Are you kidding me!!! Why would she be so vulgar in front of a child? And he just stays there. He's the big hero, an aristocrat, and he is going to sit in that chair and not utter a single peep, while this person he doesn't know, and who can't even explain where she came from, is going to bully him and search for his daughter alone. Yes, I know it's fiction, but the people in the story should not behave so out of character for their gender, position and the era in which they live.

I really liked the first two books in this series. Sadly, this one has gone wrong.

Another epic story in this forevermore series , Monica has certainly done it again , this series has been a rollercoaster ride of excitement and romantic torment .
Forever my lass set in the Scottish highlands is an exciting and passionate read I found it so hard to put down .
Madeline and Iains story is a fiery , romantic , sensual and passionate and has you holding your breath at times and swooning at other times .
Liam’s adamant he will never give his heart and marry and Madeline who is lost in time and falling big time …..
A beautifully told story of love that travels through time and lasts forever .
Although this story can be read as a stand alone , reading the others in the series you get to know some of the characters that pop in and out of each book .

So Monica Burns has a very special place in my heart. She was the one that actually converted me to Regency. I read Forever Mine and then every books she had written up to that point after that. I just love her writing. One of my favorite series of hers is Order of the Sicari. So unusual and different but awesome writing.

This is my 22nd book by her. I read almost all her books in 2015 and 2016. she had one book in 2017 and nothing again until 2019 and even then this is only her 5th book since then. I am glad to see her writing more again.

I loved Madeline and Iain. I loved this story. Time travel was always my first love of reading and this one does not disappoint. So good. The story, the characters, the sex.. so good.

Forever My Love (Book 3) By Monica Burns

Five stars, I didn't understand the beginning with prophecies. Madeline travels to the 1800's through a storm into Iain's arms. It was understood they were waiting for her arrival. Little reference to the future. Love, sex, forgiveness and hope. Good ending.

Love Iain and Madeline’s story. In life as in this book one has to believe. Believe anything is possible and love can be found anywhere in time. This story is not a true time travel but one of belief and the imagination of the author. Definitely a must read

I really enjoyed Madeline and Iain's story! It was fun watching these two find their HEA. Iain's daughters were a fun addition to the story!
