“When powerful people want something, getting in their way can kill you.”
Maverick is the fourth book in the Rocky Mountain Thriller Series by Ann Voss Peterson. It is a romantic suspense with mystery, suspense, drama, danger, tension, action, adventure, investigation, forced proximity, and plenty of angsty drama.
--- “Please protect my baby boy.”
Confirmed bachelor Lucas Nash traded the Rocky Mountains for San Francisco Bay nine months ago and vowed never to return. Then he discovers a newborn in his boat, with a note from his ex pleading he protect her baby.
Suddenly forced to learn how to care for an infant, Lucas finds an unlikely ally in private eye Sophie Dorsay. Sparks and bullets fly as they confront the Wyoming town that rejected him to search for the baby’s mother, fighting to keep the child--and each other--alive long enough to find the truth. ---
While I have loved this series, so far- this isn’t my favourite of the series- and it definitely didn’t feel as intense as the first three books. To me, this has a bit of a ‘soap-opera’ kind of feel to it which was a bit frustrating.
I really felt for Sophie, and am not convinced that she really got her HEA. I can’t reveal the why of this, without spoiling the story for you- but IYKYK. I was devastated for her. Plus, J didn’t really get the Kharma he so fully deserved in the end.
While this is a romantic suspense, there is very little in the way of ‘intimacy’- so if you are worried about graphic scenes, there is really only one that comes about three quarters of the way through the story- and it’s very short and not too hot to handle- and can be easily skipped if you wanted.
This felt quite rushed in parts, which I was not expecting from Ms. Voss Peterson.
But am curious to see what she does next.
Happy Reading…
Thank you, Ann Voss Peterson!
