If you told me this morning that I’d read a book today involving a resurrected prostitute, on a mission from Lucifer, yielding a chainsaw made of body parts, having intercourse with a non-binary individual, I would’ve said you were crazy. But here we are. I love Judith Sonnet’s writing so much. It can be classy and elegant, but also quickly turn into depraved and ugly. But her talent shines no matter what. I was going to rate this 4.5, but you all know how that goes on Goodreads. RJ is a great character and she quickly grows on you both as a troubled mortal and an undead legend. Her bloodlust is perfection and there is some really good depth to her, even through all of the madness of this story. And her relationship with Bennie is so wholesome and pure, despite starting out as a business arrangement. Lucifer is actually an active character, which was nothing like ever imagined. You enjoy him as much as you despise him. And the vivid, unique descriptions of hell was downright awesome. This is just a fantastic, short read that’ll leave you with all sorts of mixed emotions. And the intermission that Judith Sonnet included had me laughing for several minutes, too.

Well, what a crazy ride that was!! My first Judith Sonnet book, and I’m hooked!! This had everything Heaven, Hell, Lucifer, Angels, Zombies, drugs, sex, 💩 a ton of blood, gore, flesh, and all the usual goodies, that we all know and love with Splatterpunk. RJ is a sex worker who has not had a very good life. She is married to a scumbag, who sits around all day, watching porn and playing with his dick. He uses RJ like a trash can, and takes all her money. She meets some shifty characters in her line of work, but this gal turns the table on this scummy lot, and goes on the rampage, getting her revenge. There’s a whole heap of stuff in between but ya get no spoilers here 😁 this is a fabulous, bizarre, extreme horror book, which had me cheerleading RJ all the way!! A must read for lovers of the genre, and a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating!!

This was surprisingly well-written and easy to follow.

There's a bit of everything thrown in here too, it was just a fun read.

RJ, the main character is likeable. There are a few very dislikeable characters but they get their comeuppance and it's delightful.

I'll be on the lookout for more from this author.

Highly recommend it to Splatter fans!

RJ works as a hooker. After some terrible clients with filthy sex habits she is taken as a sacrifice by members of the Church of the Yawning God. Tendrils fill her. Will she die or is a second shot of life given to her? I think you can guess how the story goes... she comes back and goes for Nico first, then violence, bloodshed and gore work through her demonic chainsaw... well, the tale didn't start as bad as you'd expect but soon it became a bit confusing and repetitive (even with bits of nasty details you originally don't want to know). The author can do far better than this. But the cover is absolutely outstanding. This point is seriously given.

Chainsaw Hooker by Judith Sonnet
https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/

Feeling as though born a whore and will die one, RJ Almond’s profession happens to be prostitution. Filled with the scum of the streets, the dangers and risks are extremely high as she works the red light district overnight. Not to mention she’s married to a loser that takes full advantage of RJ’s kindness. She eventually falls victim to an outlandish savage violation, little did she know the crime would involve cultists, zombies and demons.

Author Judith Sonnet prepares her readers for a demented Sonnet Ride that include entering vile territories of disgust, gross-out fetishes and perverted hellish tormentors. Unleashed upon these pages of Chainsaw Hooker are infernal city-scapes of cosmic ancient creatures and bizarre demon-gods that Clive Barker would approve of. Leave your values and morals at home by reason of…this is splatterpunk at its best.

Prepare yourself…Judith Sonnet has officially put the X in extreme. The explicit depictions of violence and sexual immorality flows from chapter to chapter like a river of blood and bile. Chainsaw Hookers has more foul moments than a loaded adult diaper. By the way…I personally loved the well needed Intermission that Sonnet provides between the reproduction of roadkill and the sensation of spoiled milk. These simulated senses are a staple of what’s to come your way.

From laxative lovin’ to passionate golden liquids, breakout the plastic sheets for this one folks, “urine” good hands with Judith Sonnet. Enjoy this little piece of Hell on Earth, I certainly did. This is a five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation. Trust me on this one friends.

'When Heaven meets Hell!'

As the author quite rightly says 'a crude, bombastic and dirty little tale' which certainly satiated my bloodlust, grossed me out and without a doubt made me smile and hell, just laugh out loud!

Thoroughly enjoyed this 'unclean' journey from Earth to Heaven to Hell to Earth to Heaven to Hell...

A fun piece of extremely graphic escapism that reads like a superhero character taken from an adult comic strip and, indeed, as the author quite rightly implies, could be viewed as an X-rated movie...with all the trimmings!

If the mood takes you, then certainly one to enjoy.

Yep, most definitely from saw to sore...simply mellow and beautiful, man!

Rating: 4.1 buzzzzingly good, blood and gutsy, devil-filled stars.

So, this is only my 2nd book by Judith, but she has fast become one of my faves! Her writing style is so addictive. It flows so smoothly, is fast paced and action packed, and keeps you wanting more, constantly, resulting in you burning through the pages, and finishing breathless and more than satisfied!!

RJ is a hooker, at work and at home. Her man is an out of work, drunken slob and a bully! She has dealt with some really weird and fucked up shit in her time, so things couldnt get any worse….right?? Well, when shes attacked and then finds herself in the depths of hell, she is given the opportunity to return and seek her bloody revenge, with the help of a new and very awesome friend!

This was one hell of a crazy, wild and insane ride! Absolutely drenched in blood and other bodily fluids! A supernatural, extreme, debauched tale of zombies, The Yawning God, Lucifer, good vs evil, love, murder and vengeance! I particularly loved RJ and Bennies relationship, it proper got me in the feels! 🖤

The gory action and adrenaline fuelled build up was there the whole way through, and left me buzzing at the end! This was everything I wanted it to be, vulgar, depraved, brutal, nightmarish, grotesque, stomach churning. A really messed up, visceral, head fuck and so much fun!
I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel!!

Oh, and a big shout out to Chad Lutzke, thank god you designed this cover!!

This was a wild over the top bloodbath. You got hooker with a chainsaw fuckin up demons and zombies and ultimately bringing hell and bringing vengeance to everything and everyone including god. I mean what more could you ask for. I really liked the grind house feel this book had and some of the kills made me laugh... This book was a hell of a trip and one I highly recommend people take cuz it was pretty awesome

As soon as I see Judith Sonnet as author, I know it's going to be a great read. As I usually am with my book choices(Sorry, but it's true), I was right in this one, and it was in fact exactly what I was hoping for, and more.

This wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be, I knew it would be a revenge story perhaps, but other than that, everything came at such a wonderful surprise.

The story is entirely unique, and I loved the idea of bringing Hell and Demons and other fantasy-esque things, into the gory and fun world that the author has created. I loved the whole resurrection idea, aswell as Lucifer, who for some reason gave me Russell Brand's character from 'get him to the greek' vibes.

I love how when it comes to the gore and extreme horror side of the story, there is nothing spared, and it's not one for the people with a weak stomach, but as all you extreme horror readers know, the grosser the better, and this was perfect!

RJ is a likeable main character, and makes a brilliant anti-hero? You might call her, I guess! The chainsaw was a mystical demonic addition and added well to RJ's character, as well as adding a lighter aspect to the book.

This is a fun, humorous and gory read, a super unique plot, and a smart likeable main character that makes you cheer her on with her mission. I can't wait to follow RJ on her journey and see who she chops up next!!

This book is hell…literally.

Sonett has never been one to shy away from the more extreme elements of this sub genre of horror, but Chainsaw Hooker is on another level.

This is 120 pages of insanity: blood, guts, explicit sex, over the top violence, and a mean spirited look at Heaven and Hell, all turned up to 11, fed with a hefty amount of speed, and finally all cranked out at a frenetic pace of a drug induced Lovecraftian nightmare…

I teetered back and forth with my rating but settled on 4 starts because believe me, this book is most assuredly not for everyone (if I recommended this my mom, she’d probably wave a cross in front of me and scream for Satan to leave my body) but good God this is one hell of a fun ode to the grind house/exploitation films of the 70s, Troma, Sam Raimi, and one crazy ass romp through Hell.

Thus spake the Chainsaw. . .

If you haven't already added this to your TBR, bought it, read it, and had a bloody good time, you are seriously missing out.

Judith Sonnet is back with this quick, bloody, fun read. CHAINSAW HOOKER is every bit as ridiculous and gross as you'd imagine. These two qualities are Sonnet's forte when it comes to writing. They are unmatched in my opinion because no other author has made me simultaneously laugh and want to throw up at the same time.

With CHAINSAW HOOKER, we get the pleasure of meeting RJ, a sex worker that just can't catch a break. When a group of weirdo, cult junkies sacrifice her to their God, she wakes up in Hell. But RJ is offered a deal. Return to earth and reap some souls for Lucifer himself, and get a little revenge of her own.

The amount of blood, guts, and gore in this book will have you thinking about those cheesy horror movies you buy just for the splatter. Judith Sonnet has managed to write the equivalent of those old, cheesy b-movie flicks at the drive-in and the horror genre is better for it. She is a force to be reckoned with and CHAINSAW HOOKER is her love letter to the genre.

But don't be fooled. There's also a lot of heart in this book. I love that this is a fun read with a likable character and a few nuts that are fun to see mutilated. You can tell Sonnet had fun writing this book.

Almost as much as you'll have reading it.

A hooker, a chainsaw, Zombies, Demons, Hell... and Lucifer..

My first Judith Sonnet Novella and my mouth was open half of the time while reading. WHAT A FUCKING WILD RIDE THIS WAS! And I loved every second of it.

RJ is a working girl and married to Nico. Nico is a POS and blows all of her money on booze. One night RJ is getting attacked and kidnapped by Zombies and dragged to a basement where a otherworldly deity kills and devours her. She wakes up in hell where Lucifer makes her an offer. She can return to earth and kill for him. He needs bodies and blood (because God and Jesus are kinda a..holes). She receives a very special chainsaw for this work and soon she gets to work and boy, does the blood and gore just spray left and right.. a literal orgy of blood and guts.

This story contains every trigger warning you can imagine. Enter at your own risk. However, If you one of those people (like me) that lives for these kinds of stories, it's fun, gory, amazing, and absolutely fucking wild.

My bank account is going to cry because I will have to buy every book by the author now.

"This was Hell, and torture was forever."

RJ is a sex worker having problems with her abusive husband and her weird clients. One day, a cult of junkies abduct her and she is shown a bad vision of Heaven and Hell still at war. The Devil wants her on his side and sends her back with a demonic chainsaw to seek vengeance.

First of all, what a name for a book! It just reels you right in, making you wonder what this woman is capable of and the events that led her to becoming the 'chainsaw hooker' 😆

This story is exactly what it sounds like, but I had fun reading it. It was a revenge story full of blood, gore, and dark humour. It had a resurrection, a demonic chainsaw, a badass female protagonist, drugs, sex, the Devil, and angels. Need I say more?

Make sure to check out the trigger warnings if you like the sound of this!

3.5⭐️ rounded up.

I usually am the type who needs all the details, all the time, to be fully immersed in a story. Well I regret that now because this novella gave me FAR too many details, so much so that corners of my mind wish they’d never came across them. Extremely gross, extremely engaging, extremely enjoyable. I’ll definitely be looking for more of Sonnet’s work. I wouldn’t be angry at a sequel either, “Chainsaw Hooker: Trick the Devil” has nice ring to it. 😸

Over-the-top with blood and other bodily substances, it's about what you'd expect from a story with this title. This is my third Judith Sonnet book, though this one is a bit different in tone. This book is a bit of a high concept, the plot is easily explained in the synopsis: RJ is a sex worker who is having a shitty life, until she dies, then she comes back with a chainsaw. This book is just gross, from beginning to end. But surprisingly, it's not all overwhelming gore. The main characters here are quite likeable. I found the protagonist, RJ, pretty well-drawn for her story as well as very sympathetic. There's also her nonbinary client/lover, Bennie, who is downright admirable. This starts in squalor, but RJ's story develops into a more optimistic one despite all odds. At one point, one character says, "You're like a superhero," and that's kind of what she feels like: the superhero from one of the spatteriest comic books ever.

A tome that masterfully detangles the human condition, fully realizing the potential of the literature as a means to decipher the nature of life itself.

Nah, I'm messin' wit ya. This is CHAINSAW HOOKER! And that's what you're gonna get.

This isn't the first Judith Sonnet book I've read. I've enjoyed her work in the past and this is no exception. It's a short, quick read - barely passing the 100 page mark, which surprised me, when finished because the story felt more fleshed out than I would have expected when done. I love that feeling, when someone is able to keep the plot moving without getting bogged down with lengthy dialogue sections that seem to exist only to reinforce what you already picked up dozens of pages ago.

None of that here. Judith Sonnet introduces our protagonist, shares where she is in life, puts her into danger, provides a path forward, adding additional dangers along the way as we move to find out how it all ends. RJ, the titular "Hooker" from the title, is indeed making a living from prostitution. She's not happy with her personal life, professional life, life-in-general. Day by day she's selling pieces of herself that she'll never get back and the price that she gets for it, seemingly goes directly to others who could not care less about her needs.

Something happens (no spoilers here) and she's given an option to seek revenge (now the "Chainsaw" of the title comes into play). Her path will bring nothing less than Heaven and Hell into the conflict with her. As you may expect based on the cover, title, and summary, the level of sex and violence in the book is extreme and may not sit well with those who are more comfortable with mainstream horror. This wears it's splatterpunk love on it's sleeve and only those with a dark sense of humor and a strong stomach should probably apply.

So, why 4 stars and not 5? Well, I think it fulfills what it wants to do and I enjoyed the ride, so it's a sure recommendation to anyone that enjoys more "Extreme Horror" novellas. The main annoyance I had was with the text itself. A number of misspelled words, usually things that would not be caught by spellcheck (because they are words - but clearly not the words that were intended), are to be found, at least in my Kindle edition. These did pull me out of book, but that may be a personal issue that may not impact you as a reader. I do think that having some trusted friends/fans read the text prior to publishing with an eye toward finding these errors in the future would be beneficial.

All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone who looks at the title and cover and feels like they'd enjoy it. It's short but filled with a story that just keeps getting larger and larger. If you can handle gore, violence, sex, assault, and sentient chainsaws - this is the book for you.

This was actually nearer a 4.5 out of 5 for me.

I became aware of Judith Sonnet's books from watching the excellent YouTube channel Reading With Meg (check it out - trust me, you will be entertained). The title of this one screamed "read me!" so I decided to choose this delightful tale as my first Judith Sonnet book. And I'm so glad I did.

I was thoroughly entertained by this revenge story about undead prostitute RJ Almond annihilating scumbags with the Devil's chainsaw. Talk about kick-ass! If whilst reading this book you think, "No, she won't go *there* surely?.....": trust me, Judith will go there *every* time :) What you get is a novella involving bucketfuls of bodily fluids, entrails, organs and other body parts coupled (lol) with vile, depraved, grotesque sex acts - as well as a combination of both of these - all described in full eye-watering detail. So much brutal, gross and juicy blood-soaked carnage! So: PLEASE take heed of the warning that this book contains extreme violence else you'll be in for a Hell of a shock!

Something that I wasn't expecting is that the over-the-top nature of some scenes also makes them funny. Yes, it's a jet-black humour but humour it most definitely is! I also found the book to be written and structured in a way that added to its effectiveness. In the Afterword, Judith writes that she wrote this book while mourning the tragic and unexpected passing away of her much-loved cat Soup. As a cat lover myself this made me like Judith even more. I'll definitely be reading more of her work.
