Born in the Midwest, I live in New York's scenic Hudson Valley Region with my husband and two sons. A huge reader since childhood, I penned my first full-length novel in high school on a typewriter in my parent's living room. That was when my dream of becoming a published author was born. Life happened, and it took a while, but I can honestly say: it's the best job ever.

If you're looking for puppies, rainbows, and sweet romance, you won't find that here. My stories tend to run dark, gritty, and adult, full of action, magic, intrigue, antiheroes, mysteries and monsters.

A totally enjoyable zombie story with some pretty intense moments. It's a short novel so nothing too epic in scope but very well executed. The problem is that there have been a lot of similar stories in book/tv series/film format and here we don't get anything new or different. For a reader though that hasn't digested a lot of similar stories, this might be a perfect point to try and get a taste of the undead..

A kick-ass book about zombies, family, and survival.

It took me a bit to read this one, I have had this one on my e-reader for almost 2 months now, but I am still not 100% sold on zombies again. But last week (writing this in June) I was waiting for a friend at IKEA and had a bit of time + felt in the mood for some action/horror.

In this awesome book the zombies are everywhere! There is a virus around and it turns people into rotting corpses who are hungry for some fresh meat (and to spread the whole virus, as is always how it goes). We follow mother Amy and her daughter Lila as they try to fight their way to safety. I loved how we immediately got in the midst of something. I have read plenty of zombie stuff and a lot of them begin when things go from OK to shit hits the fan, but in this one we are right at the shit hits the fan stage. We see that Amy’s boyfriend is being eaten, she is stalked by what used to be her mom, and oh yes, did I mention there are more zombies around? I loved it! I was immediately into the world of the book and I was desperate to find out who would be safe and who wouldn’t be. And I was curious to learn more about Amy and Lila. And the book keeps up the strong action vibes for quite a while with some very scary moments as well. There is a small lull but after that it is non-stop action again. The author also writes the surroundings so well that you at moments you were, just like Amy, looking for a place of safety. To see where to go and what to skip.

I loved reading about the zombies, or the virus that turns people into these things (it isn’t just the bite it seems). It was interesting to learn how people changed. How at first they were fine, but slowly they would just rot. Necrosis would set in. And they would get urges. Violent ones. Hungry ones. The author really wrote the zombies well. From the ones who have just changed and are still quite cognizant and have more knowledge of things to the corpses that are just bones and small bits meat keeping it together. And how hungry they were. How desperate they were to find some fresh meat. There was one part that will stick with me and that was the story of Phil. I am not entirely sure if it is true given Phil, but that part of his story just haunted me. I am sure it will haunt other readers as well.

I loved reading more about Amy, about her family, about her bad dealings in life. It didn’t distract from the zombie parts, in fact, it just makes you root for her more. You want her to succeed.

The addition of Marcus to the story was a fun one. And I, despite knowing that this is a zombie book and you can never really do this, was already shipping them. Marcus was such a sweet character.

But the last part of the book just PISSED me off. For many reasons which I will put under spoiler tags, because I seriously need to vent. The whole air raid stuff? I mean, seriously, I get it army you want to be pre-emptive about shit given the zombie parade in the city, but you know that there are survivors there as well, why not at least give them a chance to evacuate. Now you have ruined so many more lives with your shitty action. And then the whole OMG the metro tunnel thingie is blocked and I cannot do it all alone (because of course no one helps out) so I have to be bitten by a zombie to gain superpowers. What the fuck. No. It would have worked for me, or at least I would have accepted it, if our MC turned out to be immune. Like she would have the superpowers but she wouldn’t turn into a zombie and have to kill herself and leave her 9-year old who has been through a lot already all alone. I was just so angry and I wasn’t one moment of sadness, yes, maybe for the poor girl who has lost everything and then her mom as well. Fuck that, it felt way too convenient to have this happen.

Other than those two things I did have a lot of fun with this one but yeah, those two things did dampen my enjoyment so I am given a lesser rating. 3.5 stars is still a great rating but yeah, it could have been 4.5 stars.

I am always fascinated by books like this. It was a quick read and had a lot of good action in it. I usually do not like zombies but I didn’t mind the idea of them in this read. The female lead was good and I found the story enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book. This is my first by this author. I met her yesterday at a local mall and was able to get a signed copy.
While short, her writing style immediately draws you in. The ending story was somewhat of a different take on the general zombie story.
Quick, enjoyable read

"I was brave and strong when it counted."

I got this book at Saratoga Comic Con, and next time I'm at SCC I will be having words about that ending. If you love The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, or any other zombie story, you absolutely should read this novella. It's simply incredible. Great work!!!

Necrosis starts by plunging the reader directly into the middle of the action and it doesn’t let up throughout the entire book. It’s pretty wild from beginning to the end. This was a really quick, fast-paced read that I read in about a day. I didn’t want to put it down once I started it. It felt like a fully threshed out novel and wasn’t missing any pieces. I didn’t like how it ended though, which ultimately was a ‘me’ problem definitely not a book problem. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the characters, especially those that had just been introduced, and I felt so bad for Amy after all she had fought, and been through. I would definitely like if the author published a sequel for Marcus, and Lila, heading to the government facility, and their lives later on.

This is my first time reading a book by C.L. Schneider, her character and world building pulled me in and sunk their teeth in. Amy is a single mother with a 9-year-old daughter named Lila. In 4 months, the world Amy had learned to navigate had crumpled. All that mattered anymore was the need to survive and to protect.

Amy’s life before necrosis was never easy, she stumbled through life, going from substance to substance, abusive boyfriend to the next. Then the virus hit the world it wasn’t a biblical event, or a nuclear mishap it was a virus that changed the host, one single bite transmitted it to the next person. An average time of 36-48 hours and they would be lost to the feral animal instinct to eat and survive. Now was her chance to do better, the world had been reset all sins have been washed away. Her compassion to help those that she thought she could put her and her daughter in danger more than Amy could admit but now it was just the two of them again. It was them against the world and Amy refused to let her anxieties take hold of her again, it could cost Lila her life and that was not an option. A stranger trapped in a donut shop in her hometown makes her realize the biggest truth. We’ll be a people with no past. Millions of faceless, nameless creatures wandering the Earth, all lost to history. Within the moments she was distracted hordes and hordes of the undead begin to fill the streets, a group of 75 passing her with more to come. Her daughter alone four blocks away surrounded by the undead reaching for her with feral instinct for their next meal. Amy runs into the hordes fighting to reach her daughter when gunfire rings out, the undead dropping rapidly. All logic had been eclipsed by a fierce, blind determination to save her child. Rescued for now they are taken to a massive, abandoned building, hundreds of survivors existing together with the mutual desire to live. An old childhood friend, Marcus, is there and Amy and Lila finally have a true moment to relax and rest. Three days to evacuate before bombs drop on the astronomical number of undead spreads throughout the city, the promise of a save location to wait out the apocalypse in the mountains and the hopes of a cure soon.

The promise of hope from her friend, the unwavering reality that the undead were once people. The details the author gives makes you see the images in your mind, description of an undead “Remnants of chipped, red polish speckled one lone nail on the left hand.” The living, the dead, and the undead were once all a person with dreams, and a story. Will Amy be able to protect the one good thing she has in her life; or will they both become a lost footnote in history.

All was well in the Amy’s world, albeit life wasn’t easy, she had her daughter and that was what mattered, the fleeting relationships with men, drugs, sadness and a slow spiral into the darkness were just that, fleeting, she still had her mothers love and support, until one day it all changed and the virus took hold. At first it was contained and there were only a few infected to start with, but as soon as it took hold, people started changing, they called it Necrosis and suddenly it was everywhere and it terrified Amy.

She knew it was a bad idea to try and get to her mother as soon as she entered the city, but she had pushed and now she was looking at her necrotic mother and freezing, just like every other time she was faced with violence, but this time, she had something to defend, this time, she had to protect her daughter and that was all that mattered. So muttering an apology, she put her mother out of her misery and escaped her childhood home before more of the infected could get to them, now they just needed to get back to the truck and get the hell out of there, but nothing is as easy as first thought.

They managed to get back to the truck, but there was also a need for supplies, so while it was quiet and infected free, Amy decides to see if there is anything to scavenge, but unfortunately, she is betrayed and this leads to confrontation and risk, especially when the infected breach the shop next to the truck and her daughter is in danger again. This time Amy is prepared to do anything to get to her and devises a plan to distract the infected so that she can get to the truck, but can she get there before the other parade of the infected get to her? Can Amy keep them both alive and escape the city before it is too late? This is a dystopian apocalyptic tale which plumbs the depths of a mothers love in ensuring the survival of her child in a world filled with danger around every corner, it pulls you in and keeps you on edge throughout, as you follow along this story which is perfect for the horror lovers out there.

"Raspy sounds of hunger pushed from her rotted throat, washing over me with the smell of old blood and things long dead." This is the sentence that greets you when you open this tale of the dead. It eeks and reeks and creeks of sounds of the dead. C.L. Schneider describes in such intricate detail the vast difference between the living and the dead. She pulls you in with the dead sounding so close to humanity that when we hear from the characters, we know the feeling of seeing what was once human be so appalling and yet show slight shadows of the dead's former self. I am a huge fan of apocalyptic books and stories and this does not disappoint. This fantastic story starts with Amy, the mother of Lily, her nine-year-old, standing in her mom's house, after months of fighting for her life and with her boyfriend, she hoped, against what she already knew, that her mother was alive. As you follow her along in this journey of trying to fight and survive the dead, you become attached to her and her daughter and you will right along with her. Surviving, along with her, you become immersed in it and almost willing them to survive. This is one of the best stories in this genre. I give it a 5-star. definitely recommend. Though I warn you, because of how descriptive and alive these characters and things become in the story it can be a little unsettling. Definitely looking forward to C.L Schnieders's books in the future.

~ You're New Favorite Horror ~

This author is one of my all time favorites, after picking up her Nite Fire series last year, I just absolutely love the story-telling, world building, and relationship dramas. Necrosis is no exception. I wasn't expecting to find a horror, post-apocalyptic read, but when I saw the book suggestion come up I of course immediately picked it up. SO LOVED THIS!!!

The reader is immediately thrown into an emotional state, calling on relational ties. The bond between Amy and her daughter is made so real, it's hard to not find yourself right there with them feeling empathy for their struggles to survive. So much happens so fast, I feel like I will want to go back and re-read this, as there is such a splendid amount of detail. My favorite part of this is that when mobs come up, the drama carries you through the thrills so fast, you almost feel like you are right there with them out of breath and emotionally charged.

There is a wealth of metaphors for a person's own reality, which I greatly appreciated. All in all this is a separate genre I feel, from what I normally pick up from the author, and loved it. Which is so exciting. Thank you so much for this zombie horror story, it is super spook and gave me all the feels. My only question is, do we get more?!

This is not my usual type of book, I like cosy mysteries but I stumbled over this author awhile ago and have been a fan ever since. I can honestly say I have never listened to a book that made me cry so much and yet I couldn't stop listening. Talk about tugging at your heart strings. So why did I keep listening? Because the talented author makes you care about what happens to the characters and before you know it you are invested in there out come and can't turn off. This is a zombie apocalypse so be prepared for a fight to the death and if like me take tissues. I am still not sure horror is my thing and I wouldn't watch it on tv but I might just give another book in this genre ago, especially if this author is writing it.
Amy and her daughter are stuck in the city with a virus that is quickly spreading, killing everyone in its path. The virus strips away a person's humanity that drives them to violence and a hunger that is only sated by human flesh. Can they escape with there lives? Or have they left it to late?
I liked the narrator. She did an amazing job making the drama, the fear and anguish come alive.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.

Entertaining Quick Read!

Thanks to the author, C.L. Schneider, for providing a free audio copy of this book. All opinions provided in this review are my own.

This was an entertaining quick read. Pretty much as soon as the book begins, we’re thrust right into the action. We meet our protagonist Amy and her 9-year-old daughter Lila. Amidst the chaos and fear of an apocalyptic virus, she has to fight to protect herself and Lila from zombie type creatures after the virus has gotten most of society.

Before necrosis, Amy did not have it easy, with substance abuse struggles, and not having the best past relationships. Post necrosis, she has a chance to be better and protect her daughter. They come across many obstacles on their way to safety. Can she shield her daughter from the violence and savagery, and keep them both alive another day?

This was overall an entertaining read. It was quick and there was a lot of action throughout. I enjoyed following Amy’s journey, and the supporting characters were also good in this.

Narrated by Jess Jacob, she was amazing at capturing the character of Amy, and all the emotions that she was feeling throughout her journey. She was able to bring the story and all the characters in this to life!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a gripping apocalyptic read. It was scary how the author's writing took something that should be make believe and turned it into something you can imagine happening. The authors writing was gripping and made the story one that i couldn't put down.

I loved the relationship between Amy and her daughter Lila. As a mother myself I understood every thought and emotion that Amy went through and her courage to push forward to protect her daughter.

The world is falling apart. A virus is infecting people turning them into mindless predators who know nothing but to kill. Amy and her daughter are trying to get somewhere safe, away from these monsters and to protect themselves. But is anywhere truelly safe?
With danger and possible death around every corner Amy fights constantly to make sure the her daughter is protected and safe. But there is only so much a mother's love and protection can do.
In the face of odds not in their favour can mother and daughter survive and escape this horror show or will they succumb to this virus. It only takes one bite after all

I have been a long time fan of this author for quite some time, they have a gift of bringing everything that they write to life. I love how the visual words by this author are always perfectly done, and everything from the characters and setting of the story comes to life right before your eyes!

This book alone, was impossible to put down as well as stop reading book. The book is a fast and quick read, but the book itself is nothing short of being purely epic. The book had a lot of action, and suspense that kept me wanting to know more. Great descriptive words and uses as always by this author. As usual, the author had a way with how they wrote the book! I very much enjoy it. I kept flipping pages and wanting to know more. This book alone had become one of my personal favorites by this author! Loved it!

This book was full of intrigue and suspense. The writing was gripping and was a real treat for the eyes to envision! Without a doubt, a must read! not one to be passed by any means! I highly recommend it!

Necrosis is a fast-paced thriller about a mother and daughter, Amy and Lila, who are trying to survive this new world riddled with a deadly virus that is turning people into flesh-eating undead. Amy is trying to do everything she can to keep her daughter safe from harm. Just as they think they may have found the closest thing to real safety; the rug is pulled out from under them, and hard decisions have to be made. How far is Amy going to have to go to keep Lila safe?

I could not put this one down once I started reading. Though not a long story, the author did not skimp on action and detail. It definitely brought forth many emotions as I imagined myself in Amy's position- being a mother of a child who is the center of your universe and you just aren't sure you can fully protect them from the world outside, but you'll do whatever it takes to give them their best chance. Definitely recommend! Phenomenal author. I will be keeping an eye out for C.L. Schneider in the future.

Necrosis by C.L. Schneider

Another fantastic read by the author. Schneider knows how to keep readers entertained. Necrosis was a great read. If you like horror then you'll love this book.

Amy is a single mother and everyone is being infected. This disease turns you into pretty much a zombie. Her daughter had to watch her grandmother kill someone. Can Amy get her daughter to safety before it's too late? The quote I chose for Amy is: “I suppose. But not all kids are my kid. You’ve learned how to take care of yourself in ways I never had to at your age. You know how to make a fire and a shelter. How to bandage a wound and find food. You know when to run and when to hide. And you learned how to listen. Sometimes. Most importantly, you’ve learned how to think on your feet. It’s an instinct that will help you survive. You know that’s what’s most important to me, right? Your survival. No matter what it takes.”

Highly recommended for Horror lovers.

Necrosis is the first book I’ve read by C. L. Schneider, but it won’t be the last. This story kept me at the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

Amy was a single mom trying to survive in a viral outbreak that turned people into man-eating zombies, while protecting her nine-year-old daughter, Lila from getting infected, killed or turned. Although Amy hadn’t always been the best daughter and had made many questionable decisions in her life, she would prove to be an amazing mother at the end of the world.

The author’s writing was impeccable. The characters were real and relatable. The zombie apocalyptic world was dark, gritty and intense. Great pacing throughout with tension in every page. The last couple of chapters had me flying through the pages until the bittersweet and brilliant finale.

This is a dark, emotional story about fighting for survival, a mother’s love and sacrifice. I highly recommended it.

Necrosis by C.L. Schneider is a gripping zombie apocalypse survival story that grasped me tightly in its hold. I have read and loved all Ms. Schneider’s books, so it was a no-brainer for me to snap up a copy of this to dive into. This is a bit of a different direction to her other books that I have read- but, hello, zombie apocalypse….. which turned out to be my favourite of all her stories.
This is the story of Amy’s fight for survival for herself and her young daughter after a deadly virus sweeps the world- leaving chaos, destruction, and masses of infected in its wake.
This fast-paced, tense, and gripping story is full of action, adventure, horror, danger, dramatic developments, intrigue, sacrifice, challenges, mother’s love/mother-daughter dynamics, family, hope, darker themes, and emotion.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, C.L. Schneider!

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when starting Necrosis. The synopsis sounded pretty promising so I went with it. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth and emotion written by C. L. Schneider. The reader finds the main character, Amy, haunted by her past, but trying to survive into the future. There is so much information added to the story as well. Not only does the reader get the main story of a zombie type apocalypse, you get the emotional story of Amy’s life. The story line is well thought out and the characters are realistic. Filled with descriptive writing, Necrosis takes the reader on a wild ride filled with terror, hope, disease, and, ultimately, ends with a mother's sacrifice to save her daughter. This is definitely a must read for anyone who likes zombie apocalypse stories with feelings.

I absolutely fell in love with this book. Not only am I a big fan of the author but I love the way this story was written. The words on the page paint amazing pictures of everything from the setting, the way the characters look to even the feelings and smell. You can almost picture yourself in the story watching everything unfold. I really couldn’t out it down it was so enjoyable, it is a very quick, easy and fast read which really makes me sad because I feel like the story went to fast. This book was filled with so much it kept me wanting more, lots of action, suspense, it was entertaining, captivating, and gripped me and wouldn’t let me go till I was done. Everything about this book was amazing. Do not pass this book up, especially if you like zombies. This book will hold on to you and not let go till you are done.

“To all the mothers out there. You’re braver and stronger than you know” having read this quote on the first page, instantly made me know that I was going to enjoy this book. And I did! I read this book in one sitting..I couldn’t put it down. The intensity had me hooked. I couldn’t imagine trying to survive during an apocalypse! Especially with my young daughter. Reading this had my heart racing because I kept picturing myself in Amy’s shoes and having to protect my child from actual life now. It’s terrifying. It’s heartbreaking. I cried so much at the end! Being a mother and reading this just had me in my feelings! And If you can bring out my emotions, that’s a damn good book to me! Highly recommend this!

Though this isn't the first book I've read from this author, I wasn't too sure what I'd see when I first began to read Necrosis but I had high expectations. Of course, my expectations were met and quickly surpassed. As a person who adores the spooky aspect of fall, I feel like this gave a perfect start to the season! We're brought into this apocalyptic world with a bang and follow mother Amy on a mission to keep her child safe in a world turned upside down. As with any zombie-outbreak story, there are tough decisions, devastating truths, and a minefield of terror threaded throughout. Even so, the love and bond that only a mother can know is strong and keeps the worst of the darkness at bay, in my opinion. I can't wait to see what C.L. Schneider comes up with next!

Necrosis by C.L. Schneider

Necrosis is Post Apocalyptic Sci-Fi and once you start reading there’s no stopping until you finish. I’m a huge fan of this author and I’ve read several of her books but this one is my favorite yet. It’s a short story but backed with action, and Adventure. This authors style of writing and attention to detail along with amazing characters make for one heck of a story. Get ready to follow Amy on her adventurous mission as she tries to keep her children safe in this world that has literally turned upside down. There will be tough decisions to be made but will the right one be made? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Necrosis is a fast read that starts interesting and never slacks off. Amy, the main character, is easy to identify with and relate to. Going through a zombie apocalypse with her 9 year old daughter, Lila, brings out several life changing decisions. Sometimes she has to make choices that may cost her direly, or hurt someone else to save themselves. This seemed like a very realistic (given the circumstances) approach, and the choices were always real-life like scenarios. Friendships and her old life falls away, and basic survival instincts kick in. This is the 1st book I have read from this author, and I loved the writing style, world building, and character arcs. I absolutely recommend this to everyone, it was not too much horror or gore, and was very easy to follow!

I found myself thoroughly immersed in this book from start to finish. Despite its brevity as a novella, the characters quickly found their way into my heart. The dynamic between Amy and Lila struck a perfect balance between heartwarming and heartbreaking, leaving me emotionally invested in their journey. As a newcomer to this author's work, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease with which I consumed the story; their writing style facilitated a rapid read while still providing ample detail to fully engage my imagination. While apocalyptic novels aren't typically my go-to genre, the opportunity to witness characters evolve and navigate the complexities of their relationships kept me thoroughly engrossed.

This is not your usual zombie apocalypse book. It’s also a story of redemption and mother/daughter love. There is no stronger love than sacrificing yourself to rescue your daughter from a buried subway and possible zombies. I found the story so intriguing that I couldn’t put it down. I had to spend every free minute reading it to find out what happened next. The action, drama and romance is wonderful in this story. Such a well-written story, this the best zombie story I have read in a long time. The characters are well-developed and well-thought out. The ending throws me for a loop but soo, soo very good. You have to read this book. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

I enjoyed reading this book. This is an author that I have loved reading from the first book I picked up by her. I enjoy her writing skills as well as her attention to details that make her stories realistic. Her characters are unique and creative. This book is no different. It is a creative journey that kept me coming back for more. This is a shorter story that certainly packs a punch with adventure. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their story with ease. They have great growth as well as the plot throughout the story. This is an easy and entertaining story to read. I really enjoyed this new book by this author. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Amy just wants her daughter to survive, no matter what. During a zombie apocalypse, they venture into town and get met with all kinds of challenges. Amy is all about protecting Lila, who is only nine years old. On the hunt for food, water, and shelter, they end up surrounded by a zombie horde. Luck is on their side, and they find refuge. But once again, things go downhill and fast. Will a mother’s love for her child be enough to save her or will her daughter not see what all she has given up for her?
This was a quick but excellent read. I absolutely loved the story. It truly proves how far a mother is willing to go to protect the ones she loves.

Fighting to stay alive and trying to protect the one thing you hold dear in all the world but that world has turned into a vicious dark world of survival and the unexpected.

Necrosis is a quick intriguing read that is action-packed and an emotional read. It will break your heart and warm it at the same time. I was glued to the pages finishing it in one sitting. I have read all of CL’s work and I have enjoyed them all and was excited to see she had a new book out. I think this is one of her best works.

A zombie apocalypse, a mother’s love, sacrifice and redemption and lots of nail-biting suspense.

This gripping tale is a must read if you love things a little dark and zombies.

The world is lost to a disease that leaves the body as a zombie. It only takes a single bite to become infected and there is no cure. Amy will do anything to protect the one thing in the world that means the most to her, her daughter Lila. Every day is a battle for survival. The number of living souls is shrinking rapidly by the day.

Necrosis is a quick read about a mother's love and a zombie apocalypse. It has detailed descriptions woven into the story that gives you a movie-like experience as you read along. It is a great short read so if you like zombies and survival stories this is a must read.
