The overall recommendations are fine, if not pretty generic, but there are so many parts of this book that seems like it was written by a computer. There are very odd phrases that no native English speaker would say and strange anecdotes that seem almost too wild to be true. It seems this book was written by taking generic self help content and mashing it with a fiction novel.
Maybe I'm too far into the stress pipeline but this felt a bit "Baby's first busy period at work." - Was hoping for something a bit more novel than keeping a journal and resting. Also the whole section on fatigue made me roll my eyes so far into the back of my head (I do have CFS so might be being a little harsh on that bit, which is why I bumped it to 2 stars).
I found the book confusing and not relevant for me. I wanted more strategies for recovering from mental collapse, not basic awareness of self management.
This book is genuinely life-changing! I really liked the author’s approach to overcoming stress and burnout. It’s a compelling read with great research, actionable strategies, journal prompts, and practical advice to help you understand stress better and how to stay out of burnout in the long-run. It gave me many « aha moments » as it shed light on many concepts and ideas that were new to me and it definitely changed my entire approach to mental and physical health. It’s been a few weeks since I finished it, and I still find Amber Pierce’s ideas impacting my life - I keep using it as a reference to make lasting improvements to my health and well-being.
Most importantly, it left me feeling empowered and enlightened at a time in my life when I thought there was no way out. It helped me move forward and I can’t recommend it enough! I even bought a box full to share with friends and co-workers.
I really appreciate that this book exist! Anybody dealing with burnout or a general overwhelming life situation can find useful tips how to make their life better bit by bit. Without quitting, without leaving it all behind and moving to Bali. There is another way and the techniques presented here are worth Hibbing them a try. I will try some of them personally and most importantly I’ll start journaling as this is the main tip from this and many other books on the topic of burnout and work challenges.
Sometimes I wish there was some sort of quality control with self published books. It was well written (possibly by AI as others have suggested) and easy to read, unfortunately there wasn’t much insight to be gained. There was a bit of ‘research’ quoting from other books and some papers, followed by exercises. Some of the quoted books sound interesting and I will put them on my tbr list and a few of the exercises sound interesting, which is why I gave the two stars.
Really helped me identify the causes of burnout. I really appreciate that the author is sharing her personal experiences so it is very relatable. Practical, realistic solutions for how to find your way back out of burnout, particularly thought the section on setting boundaries to be helpful.
The first half of this book covers definitions and diagnosing tools of burnout, with the strategies for managing symptoms and recovering from burnout coming in the second half. I appreciated that this book emphasizes the control we have over our recovery and providing multiple strategies to mix and match to create the best toolkit for yourself!
I was given this book on a whim, and it turned out to be the most amazing timing. It is real and relatable. I would recommend this to anyone who feels that they are burnt out, or heading towards burnout.
Really incredible approach to burnout! Some of the tools I would never have thought of myself. Very grateful for the way it is written as I felt like it truly spoke to me. Definitely recommend to anyone suffering from burnout!
I really loved this book. So easy to read, so clear but above all so helpful. It really helped me to understand what was happening to me… it also helped me to find my way back to myself again. I truly recommend.
Highly recommend that you read through this book. The author has done a great job going through such a tough subject that many of us are dealing with on a daily basis (usually without even realizing it). Read 'Burnout Recovery' right away - you'll be so happy you did by the time you finish it.
Funny that it took me almost a month to read such a short book. I must be overwhelmed in life and…burnt out. This book was resourceful and helpful. A good reality check.
It was a good overview of burnout phases and some useful techniques worth trying to prevent, tackle and recover from it. I expected a bit more science behind it and more backed up advice though.
