This book was okay. Some good information on so-called “aliens” (aka demons), but there are better books out there on this subject (for example, “Alien Intrusion” by Gary Bates). My biggest complaint with this book is the authors dogmatism on subjects such as the pre-trib rapture (which I felt was an unnecessary deviation from the main topic anyway), over-confidence that the rapture would happen in his lifetime (this book was written in the 1990’s), and also that aliens will definitely be involved in the anti-Christ’s end time agenda. It’s one thing to speculate on these issues, but I was put off by how the author discussed these issues as if they were set in stone. Anyway, not my favorite book on this topic.

I thought this was a great book with a lot of insightful and scholarly research. Lewis concluded that those who claimed to have experienced UFO sightings or alien encounters have also dabbled with the occult at one point or another in their life. The final conclusion is that alien encounters are actually encounters with beings from the spiritual world, namely demons. And it is with this that Lewis believes is Satan's attempt at deluding the world into believing in extra-terrestrial life in order to divert our attention away from God.

ARE UFOs PREPARING US FOR THE ANTICHRIST, AND COVERING UP THE RAPTURE?

Primary author David Allen Lewis wrote in the Introduction to this 1991 book, “Even if you thin that UFOs are a result of hysteria, or that they are hoaxes, still this book will help you understand one of the most amazing phenomena of all time… Whether UFOs are real or not, the idea is real… IT is a part of both secular humanity’s and the New Age movement’s belief structure…. If the alleged messages that contactees are receiving are true, then the Bible is not true… Christianity must be radically altered to fit the new paradigm… There is no longer any reasonable doubt in our minds that modern UFO manifestations are supernatural in origin and activity. This statement is the result of almost forty years of research. This explanation will… lead many people to a new respect for the Holy Scriptures.”

He observes, “Without exception, every person claiming a CE-3 contact that I have researched, corresponded with, or met had one thing in common. Each had a prior connection to metaphysical activity or cults. Some had been in devil worship, witchcraft, psychic phenomena, New Age, channeling, and so on… Those involved in direct contact with UFO aliens already had a connection to the dark side of the supernatural world.” (Pg. 15)

He outlines, “Here is an eight-point position statement that will help you understand this book… 1. Whatever these objects are, they do exist. UFOs have a physical manifestation… 2. They are not from other planets. They are not spaceships that have traveled at warp-speed to visit our world… 3. They are supernatural in nature… the UFOs are from the realm of the paranormal or the spiritual… 4. They are demonic… 5. The purpose of UFOs is deception… They have definite plans and purposes, and those plans do not augur well for mankind… 6. They figure into the end-time scheme of prophecy and its fulfillment… 7. They will play an increasing role in preparing a segment of humanity for the reception of the Antichrist. 8. Several of the Bible’s end-time prophecies can now be more clearly understood when we consider the UFO delusion. For example, the UFO idea will provide one way for sinful humanity to explain away the rapture of the Church.” (Pg. 24-25)

He also suggests, “Why is it the world can believe in supernatural phenomena and supernatural beings but reject the biblical teaching on evil spirits? If one wants to get an overview of the subject from a nonbiblical perspective, and interesting book to read is ‘The Aquarian Revelations,’ by Brad Steiger. He traveled… interviewing hundreds of people who claimed to have had actual contact with alien beings from UFOs. The essential ‘message’ … is that we’re about to destroy ourselves on the planet Earth. The ascended masters… will select a human person and endow him with supernormal powers and knowledge. This man will lead us to world government and world peace.” (Pg. 43)

He records, “In the political arena… former president Jimmy Carter must be noted. Carter not only saw a UFO and believed in UFOs, but he caused funding for Project SETI to be appropriated in the late 1970s… Astronauts Gordon Cooper, Eugene Cernan, John Young, and Edgar Mitchell have all expressed belief in ETs and UFOs.” (Pg. 106)

He says, “Brad Steiger is a New Age advocate, trance medium, and researcher… He has summarized the UFO gospel: ‘…Man stands now in the transitional period before the dawn of a New Age. With peace, love, understanding, and brotherhood on man’s part, he will see a great new era begin to dawn… If man should not raise his vibratory rate with a set period of time, severe Earth changes and major cataclysms will take place. Such disasters will not end the world, but shall… burn off the dross of unreceptive humanity. Those who die in such dreadful purgings will be allowed to reincarnate on higher levels of development…’ In short, here is a scheme of salvation for needy man that makes an end run around Jesus Christ and cancels the necessity of the atoning work of Calvary. If UFO advocates are right, we don’t need Jesus; we need the space brothers!” (Pg. 170-171)

He argues, “Does it seem too far-fetched to say those left behind will interpret the Rapture as an alien invasion? It isn’t. Ruth Montgomery writes the following astounding passage in her book ‘Aliens Among Us’: ‘Although most Earthlings will lose their physical lives when the earth shifts on its axis at the close of this century, a good number of enlightened ones will be evacuated by the galactic fleets and returned to Earth for its rehabilitation.’ The Rapture will be explained away with a mix of pseudo-science, New Age revelation, and both fabricated as well as misinterpreted evidence that will seem to prove that the Rapture is an alien invasion.” (Pg. 202-203)

He concludes, “Many people are in danger from this deception. Is there an antidote? Do we have the answer? How can we lead people back from the brink of destruction and resist the evil forces that seek our annihilation? Our answer is that they can find life in Jesus---who gives life that is eternal.” (Pg. 234)

This book will be of interest to Evangelicals (mostly of the Pre-Mill, Pre-Trib type) studying UFOs and related topics.

I don't give a two-star rating because I didn't like this book. In fact, I can't think of really anything this book said that I disagreed with. Alas, the truth of this was muddled in what I can only describe as a "raving" tone. Only people who already agreed with this book's premises (guilty as charged) would be convinced by this book; Lewis and Shreckhise do not do a very good job convincing the unsaved (who, admittedly, likely were not their target audience).

The other reason I deduct points is that this book, while brief, managed to overstay its welcome via sheer redundancy. I felt as if I read the same ten to twelve paragraphs written over and over again with mild variation. This read like a student paper, particularly one whose writer is DESPERATELY trying to hit the minimum word count.

Still, this has some good information which aligns quite well with what I've been thinking/saying for a while now. Worth a skim if not a full reading.
