What a perfect bedtime book! I absolutely love this little book and I am not giving it up. *grin* "Caldecott Award winners Ed and Barbara Emberley capture the wonder of nighttime in this reissued bedtime classic." Little many many reasons of why night is a nice thing, the sound and rhythm of this short story is relaxing and is sure to work some wonders on aiding your little one to sleep. I highly recommend it for all homes!

Delightful book about all the nice things about the night. Art is in Ed Emberley's signature style for his learn-to-draw books: charming fine-line drawings with rich colors. Poetry is simple without being sing-songy, and the story subtly puts across the message that the night is not scary.

Great for displays (the front cover has a cut-out letting a yellow moon show through), for small-group read-alouds, and for kids afraid of the dark.

This is a nice, soothing story about the wonders of nighttime. It would be a great book to read with a child who is afraid of the dark, to help show some of the nice, happy things that happen at night. The rhyming narrative and cartoonish illustrations make this a fun story to read aloud.

The deep cutout on the cover fits perfectly with the book title, "Night's Nice." Clever words to some, notably tedious to others. (I am one of those others.)

As for the deep cutout on the cover, it's a one-time gimmick. I've seen other picture books use cutouts and foldover pages soooooooo much more creatively. What's here could still be effective for impressing a three-year old, though. (Even if this grownup reader is not impressed particularly.)

THIS BOOK AMBLES FROM ONE CLICHE TO ANOTHER

For many readers that may bring comfort. After all, cliches are so very familiar. Reading them can help a person to feel really smart. (Or maybe annoyed.)

On behalf of the intended readership, I feel obligated to give this book FIVE STARS.
(It takes all kinds of readers to make a world.)

My absolute favorite bedtime book for my kids. It has pleasing cadence as you read the poems and are reminded of all the perks of night time. Also, my kids love finding the tiny black cat hidden in most of the pictures. The illustrations are so good, starting with the cover of the book that has a cutout for the moon.

I'd never heard of this classic picture book (originally published in 1962) until I ran across the 2008 reissue. The kitty on the cover grabbed me and I gave it a quick read.
And glad I did because OMG IT'S SO CUTE.
This might be my new favorite bedtime book.
The art looks charming retro these days and there's just the right amount of light absurdity.

This story is short and sweet about all of the things that happen at night (and subsequently wouldn't happen if there were no night). It is written in rhyming form with not many words, and is great for very young children.

this is one of Sara's new Favorite picture books for bedtime. It's a cute story. Oh but the rhyming and at bedtime drives me crazy. She loves it though so we read it together.

Great night-time tale of yellow-eyed cats, bats, rockets (fireworks), holidays and places that make night-time magical written with poetry, first published in 1962, this book is still a gem.

It's ok, not as enticing as this pair's usual work.
