Rate this book
Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust is the second book in Mindy Quigley's delectable Deep Dish Mystery series, set in a Wisconsin pizzeria.

Newly single pizzeria owner Delilah O’Leary is determined to keep her restaurant afloat in the picturesque resort town of Geneva Bay, Wisconsin. To boost her bottom line, she sets her sights on winning the hefty cash prize in the town’s annual “Taste of Wisconsin” culinary contest. In her corner, she’s got her strong-willed, “big-boned” cat Butterball, her wisecracking BFF, her cantankerous great-aunt, and a nearly -flawless recipe for Pretzel Crust Deep-Dish Bratwurst Pizza. But while Delilah and her team have been focused on pumping out perfect pizza pies, her ex-fiancé has cozied up to a new squeeze, juice bar owner Jordan Watts―Delilah’s contest rival.

When one of Jordan’s juice bar customers is poisoned by a tainted smoothie, Delilah lands deep in the sauce. Accusations fly, suspects abound, and a menacing stranger turns up with a beef over some missing dough. Between kale-juicing hipsters and grudge-bearing celebrity chefs, Delilah must act quickly before another one bites the crust.

Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust is book 2 in the Deep Dish mystery series by Mindy Quigley! I read it back-to-back with the first one and am anxious for the third to be released! There’s just something so comforting about cozy mysteries and pizza! In this one, Delilah is thrust into another murder when her ex’s new girlfriend has a poisoning at her juice shop! Good thing Delilah and her cop friend Capone can share insights into the case because if she wants to win the cooking contest, she needs to find the killer! Another great addition to the series! I recommend it to any fans of cozy mysteries especially if you love culinary cozies!

Maybe this came to me at the perfect time, or maybe I'm just a sucker for stories that take place in my home state. Either way, this was SO GOOD. I finished it last night and went to bed with a smile on my face.

In book 2 of the Deep Dish Mysteries, we continue to follow Delilah and Sonya on more hijinks, navigating the restaurant business and personal life stuff. Along with them is cranky Aunt Biz, on-a-diet Butterball, best-ex-boyfriend-ever Sam, new-love-interest detective Cal Capone, and the rest of the staff at Delilah and Son's gourmet deep-dish pizza place.

We're also introduced to a few other residents of Geneva Bay: Melody's cousin Mac, the owner of the local "juicery" Jordan Watts, an excitable chamber of tourism employee named Harold and a Bulgarian transplant/doctor/waitress/smoothie maker named Jarka.

This one amps up the Wisconsin-ness quite a bit from the first and I'm obsessed. Delilah and Jordan are competing in Geneva Bay's Taste of Wisconsin competition and the hunt is on to capture Wisconsin in food form (enter me, researching whether or not this competition is real). I loved that this felt like summer in Wisconsin. The people are definitely people you meet here, they talk like they're from here - Mindy, you gotta give me an "ope" in the next one.

The mystery was good, I figured some of the twists out before Delilah, but I like that in a cozy. It was so fun. I definitely laughed a couple times and it's so easy to fall in love with these characters. If you're a cozy mystery person, check this one out.

Huge thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for giving me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

We arrive in Geneva Bay, Wisconsin as Delilah O’Leary is working on her entry for the annual “Taste of Wisconsin” culinary contest. She is trying to find the perfect recipe for a Deep-Dish Bratwurst Pizza with a pretzel crust. Delilah’s ex has moved on with Jordan Watts owner of the local juice bar. Jordan is also working on her entry for the contest.

Delilah shares custody of the large lovable feisty cat Butterball with her ex Sam. Sam has put Butterball on a diet and that makes for a very hungry and unhappy kitty. Delilah agrees to meet Sam at Jordan’s juice bar to give him Butterball. While there chaos ensues when a customer is poisoned and dies after drinking a smoothie. Was the victim the real target? How did the poison get in the smoothie? Are other people in danger? Delilah and Detective Calvin Capone are reunited as she finds herself deep in the middle of another murder investigation and on his suspect list.

Then another body is found with a connection to Sonya, Delilah’s BFF, sous chef, and namesake “Son” of Delilah & Son pizza restaurant. The heat gets turned up high. A killer needs to be caught before anyone else gets burned.

I am really enjoying this series set in my home state. Talk of bratwurst and cheese and I am right there. Haven’t ever had bratwurst on a pizza but I guess it could easily replace Italian sausage.

Delilah was a little harsh in the first book mostly due to her OCD tendencies but I didn’t notice that as much this time, but her Aunt Biz sure is acting strange. Sonya was more of a focus in this story when her past catches up with her. All three of these women are strong with their own struggles. They are all also very stubborn and have a hard time accepting help even from each other. That being said, they are cleverly crafted and I was really drawn into each of their stories. I still am not a fan of Sam but by the end of this story, he earned a few points that may change my opinion in the future. I really love Aunt Biz who knows everyone in town having taught most of them.

Readers are introduced to some new characters too. Harold Heyer, president of the Geneva Bay Convention and Vistors Bureau. With the culinary contest, he seems to pop up everywhere. Molly McClintock aka Mac is Melody’s cousin and she is up to something. Jordan Watts, owner of Juice Revolution, and her employee Jarka, who was a doctor in Bulgaria but until her English improves and she can take the necessary tests she can only find work at a smoothie shop. Mac also works at the juice bar. All these characters had a purpose in the story and were fleshed out throughout the story.

Wisconsin has been said to popular with the Chicago mobsters back in the 1920’s and the author draws on that history both in Delilah’s restaurant and in the mysteries which makes them even more intriguing. With plenty of suspects, twists, and turns I was delightfully entertained. I was able to put some of the clues together before Delilah but not enough to not be surprised at the reveal.

I loved all the descriptions of Wisconsin and that the author takes the time to make her characters sound like Sconies. She also adds humor in all the right places.

Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust is a marvelous addition to this series. The characters have grown in ways I like and I am now invested in their lives. The ending sets up a very interesting twist that I am anxious to see play out. The story gets a strong 4 star-fish from me. It was a very enjoyable cozy getaway. I am looking forward to the next book.

A Golden Doodle and a Miniature Poodle are on a bed with a softcover book against the Doodle's chest. The book is Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust by Mindy Quigley.

ASHES TO ASHES, CRUST TO CRUST by Mindy Quigley is a cozy mystery novel set in a picturesque Wisconsin resort town. Pizzeria owner Delilah O'Leary is participating in the annual Taste of Wisconsin culinary contest to win the hefty cash prize. However, her plans are jeopardized when her ex-fiancé cozies up with her contest rival and one of the rival's customers is poisoned by a tainted smoothie. Delilah finds herself at the center of a murder investigation with suspects and accusations flying around. The story is filled with humor, witty banter, and plenty of food references that will make your mouth water. Mindy Quigley skillfully weaves together a compelling and fun mystery plot with relatable characters and small-town charm that will keep you turning the pages. Recipes mentioned in the story are available at the end of the book. Yummy!

This is a fun second installment in the deep dish pizza series by Mindy Quigley.
This is fast paced story about two friends who open their own pizza place. They each bring unique qualities to their establishment, however, Delilah has her own unique quality, which involves getting caught up in murder investigations.
The dynamic duo will make you laugh as they navigate life, both personal and business.
Butterball has to be my favorite cat, I love his personality.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.

I am desperate to find a good Bratwurst pizza so I know, to an extent, how Delilah feels (I’ll be trying the recipe in the back). I loved this visit to Geneva Bay and the pizza shop. The mystery was well-paced and I had no idea who the killer was until the big reveal. I need to spend some time with Butterball and the rest of the gang. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Ashes To Ashes, Crust To Crust is a great title for a great cozy mystery. The second entry in the Deep Dish Mystery series by Mindy Quigley picks up where Delilah & friends left off three months ago. The profitable Summer season is coming to a close. Will Delilah & Son be able to make it through Winter? A $10000 prize in the Taste of Wisconsin Cook Off would help. Then Biz begins acting strangely, some sausage goes missing, and a customer dies from drinking a poisoned smoothie at Juice Revolution. Delilah's biggest problem isn't coming up with a new recipe or dealing with her ex's new girlfriend. Can she solve the mystery before everything falls apart?

I absolutely loved this! Everything is perfect. The side characters are wonderful (again), including some new ones. They are all so different and feel like real people. Butterball is a delight and I enjoy seeing how much Delilah loves him. There are a lot of cat antics! A special moment between Capone and Delilah rivals any scene in a romance. There are a lot of perfect, heartwarming moments and the writing is fantastic.

I could go on and on, but let's not forget about the mystery. I love it when different things are going on so you're not sure what is connected or really happening. I love how Delilah doesn't keep information from Capone. She is smart and observant. Those skills make for a great sleuth and her involvement in solving the crime feels very natural. The mystery is perfectly plotted. I did not figure things out. The suspect did cross my mind, but like Delilah, I got distracted. It is well done.

One thing I did have an idea about is the ending. There is more to wrap up than just the killer! From first bite to last, Ashes To Ashes, Crust To Crust is a cozy, funny delight. It is one of my top reads of the year and I am super excited to read the third one which comes out in December!

This is the second book in the Deep Dish mystery series, and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite cozies. I really enjoy Delilah and all of the supporting characters centering around her pizzeria in Geneva, Bay Wisconsin. with all of the eateries gearing up for a big competition, with a famous chef, as a judge, everything is turned upside down when there is a death in Sam’s ex fiancé‘s smoothie restaurant. was it a freak accident or was it murder? Delilah was present at the smoothie shop when the man died, and she noticed a few things that seemed odd to her. Delilah had been so busy creating a new recipe for the competition that when her own pizzeria was broken into she assumed it was just teenagers up to no good, but as time goes on, it’s clear to her that things are not what they seem. This is a cleverly, plotted multi layered story that moves along quickly. This installment isn’t as funny as the first one, but still had the clever wit that I enjoyed in the previous book. this was such a fun and quick read that was totally entertaining and I also like the recipes that are in the back of the book. There is so much to like about this series, and it has so much potential for new stories to come, and I will definitely be along for the ride. I’d like to think Mindy Quigley, the publisher, and #netgalley for my digital copy for review.

Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust is the second book in Mindy Quigley’s series, Deep Dish Mysteries. It can be read as a standalone. The first book was amazing; this one is even better. Detailed descriptions bring the setting of Geneva Bay to life. Characters have unique personalities and are very well developed, with their own story lines. Plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, mostly coming from the protagonist, Delilah. Delilah’s sarcastic personality makes her my favorite character, with her Aunt Biz being a very close second. The murder mystery is expertly crafted, and kept me guessing almost to the end. But the murder isn’t the only mystery, a few of the characters have some secrets of their own. Butterball, Delilah’s cat, is a clever little guy, his antics are hilarious. Lots of action made this a very fast paced read that I couldn’t put down. There’s a bit of a surprise at the end that has me anxious to see how it plays out in book 3.

I totally love Mindy Quigleys writing style and I love this series. The second installment made me LOL at several parts. There was a few parts of the mystery I did guess. The mystery had a string of events happening so I didn't guess them all. I adore the location and cast of characters.

This book is the second book in a series centered around a pizzeria in Geneva Bay, Wisconsin. Two best friends are partners in the business. To help boost their income during the off-season for tourism, the pizzaria will be participating in a Taste of Wisconsin cook-off. I love that there is a culinary contest as part of the plot. The preparations were interesting to read about, but I wish more time could have been spent during the actual competition.

I enjoyed the book overall, but I think I would have liked it more if I had read the first book in the series. There are a lot of characters and it took me quite a while to figure out who everyone was, which took away from my enjoyment of the book. I was sometimes confused by why characters were acting in a certain way because I didn't know their background. I liked the friendship between Delilah and Sonya and the banter between them. I think Delilah's adorable cat Butterball is my favorite character of the story. I didn't care for some of the judgmental comments made about a few of the characters and it put me off at first (such as making fun of Jarka's accent). The murder investigation ends up being more complex than it first looked and I liked the way things turned out. The ending helps make up for the slow start and it sets up a very interesting development for future books. Fans of this popular series will enjoy this latest installment. (3.5/3.75 stars rounded up to 4)

I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust by Mindy Quigley

Here we are back in Geneva Bay, Wisconsin as Delilah O’Leary is working on her entry for the annual “Taste of Wisconsin” culinary contest. She is trying to find the perfect recipe for a Deep-Dish Bratwurst Pizza with a pretzel crust. Delilah’s ex-boyfriend has a new women named Jordan Watts owner of the local juice bar. Jordan is also working on her entry for the contest.

Delilah shares custody of the large lovable feisty cat Butterball with her ex-Sam. Sam has put Butterball on a diet and that makes for a very hungry and unhappy kitty. Delilah agrees to meet Sam at Jordan’s juice bar to give him Butterball. While their chaos ensues when a customer is poisoned and dies after drinking a smoothie. Was the victim the real target? How did the poison get in the smoothie? Are other people in danger? Delilah and Detective Calvin Capone are reunited as she finds herself deep in the middle of another murder investigation and on his suspect list.

In book 2 of the Deep Dish Mysteries, we follow Delilah and Sonya navigating the restaurant business and personal life stuff. Along with them is Delilah's Aunt Biz, Butterball on-a diet cat, ex-boyfriend Sam, new-love-interest detective Cal Capone, and the rest of the staff at Delilah and Son's gourmet deep-dish pizza place.

There are a few new residents of Geneva Bay: Melody's cousin Mac, the owner of the local "juicery" Jordan Watts, an excitable chamber of tourism employee named Harold and a Bulgarian transplant/doctor/waitress/smoothie maker named Jarka.

The mystery was easy to follow along, and it still was enjoyable to read as a fast-paced cozy mystery. It had everything I like in a cozy mystery which is why I recommend this book to all cozy mystery lovers this is a really good series so far. I am looking forward to what happens next in the series.

4.5/5 stars - actually liked this one better than the first book in the series!

I’m such a fan of cozy mysteries and this series checks all my boxes! This book (like the first in the series) got to the action fast, has the most adorable side character, and has the fun setting of being a deep dish pizza restaurant! I’m all about it and the recipes at the end are always fun!

If you’re looking for a cozy mystery series to jump into during the fall this would be a good one!

(Side note - there are a LOT of comments about weight in these books. It’s something to take note of.)

Before I say anything else, I'm just going to proclaim that if there were a contest for best ex-boyfriend ever, Sam wins. Hands down. No contest.

Nope, not telling you why. You're just going to have to read the book. You won't be sorry. I am in love with this series, all the more impressive since this is only the second book. Author Mindy Quigley has done a superb job of investing each character with a unique, relatable personality, right down to Butterball the cat, while weaving it around a murder. True, main character Delilah O'Leary still has her control-freak side, right down to annoying friends with her quest for perfectionism and can't seem to help sticking her nose into the investigation. That somehow seems to work for her, however, as she's also remarkably smart, caring, and fiercely independent. I like her, even though I'm sure she'd get on my own more laid-back nerves at times.

The plot moves along quickly with lots of talk about food and amazing drink mixes in-between trying to figure out the clever murderer. The characters we met in the first book are emerging as interesting, unique people in their own right, too. There are some new characters, too, including most intriguingly, Jarka, a woman of many talents who takes a job working for Delilah. Let's just say, whether you're in desperate need of a doctor or tasty smoothie, she's your go-to person. I'm definitely looking forward to where her story and potential new romance will take her. The mystery is intriguing and kept me guessing but it's the characters that hooked me.

I've barely touched the surface of all that is going on in this delightful book. Did I mention the hunky detective who is related to Al Capone? Or Biz's ability to make sense of numbers that might appear a jumble to most of us? Or why Sonya is avoiding the public area of the restaurant? Or Butterball "the I-hate-diets" cat's secret? Or.... well, you get my drift. Great, diverse characters you'll like, recipes shared in the voices of the characters(Love Biz's for the tomato sandwich), and a touch of romance. I mean, come on, Delilah. He ever waits tables when he isn't investigating crimes.

Bottom line, this book is a winner. Read it. Go back and read the first book, too, if you missed it. Thank you #NetGalley, #StMartinsPress, and author #MindyQuigley for letting me spend some time in Delilah's world. I think I may skip the Pretzel Crust Deep-Dish Bratwurst Pizza, though. Well, maybe not.

My brain has been filled with paranormal fantasy lately, which is awesome, but I was in the mood for a little break. So this came at exactly the right time. When I'm looking for a cozy mystery, this is the kind I like! There's food, interesting characters, small-town living (but near a big city), and a murder mystery that I can sometimes figure out (I did this time). If I met these people in person, I might not like Delilah upon first meeting her, but over the first two books, I've warmed up to her and I really want her and her family of misfits to succeed.

In this book, it's been a few months since the first book, and after Sam and Delilah officially break up, you know she's struggling to keep her restaurant afloat. Delilah and her aunt are both super stubborn, much to the chagrin of those who care about them, but I do like that despite the friction between them because they are exactly alike, they KNOW that the other loves them and that's part of what I love about this book. With every family, there are going to be tough times, but the bottom line is that you would do anything for your loved one. Delilah and her restaurant staff have become a family and I love that her restaurant has such a diverse group of characters. Janka was a fun addition to this story and I look forward to learning more about her in future books.

On paper, Sam is the best boyfriend in the world, and one might close this book and be reinforced in that opinion. Still, he also has his faults, something he freely admits in the end, and I have to respect that. That said, I love Detective Capone and I look forward to more possibilities between him and Delilah in future books.

I received an advance review copy for free from the publisher and NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This second book in Deep Dish Mysteries has Delilah getting ready to enter a town food contest, while she also deals with finances, her ex-fiancée finding a new girlfriend, cat custody, and (of course) murder. I really like Delilah's friendship with Sophie, her love of Butterball, and her kind but independent personality. The mystery in this book was pretty good - although I figured out some of it, I didn't guess everything.

I'd recommend this to lovers of cozy mysteries - especially if you are hungry :)

Another visit to Geneva Bay around Labor Day was pretty exciting and not just because of the festival and local vendor food tasting contest. The place was rich in mobster history, and Delilah worried that maybe one was back to find something he lost while in prison. Auntie Biz was a little grouchier than usual and it turned out she had a good reason.

Delilah's a great main character and I admire her strength but dang it, girl, can't you just let people be nice and do stuff for you? LOL, she might be working on that. Lots of little side mysteries were going on but everything wrapped up nicely at the end. For a while though I was worried there was one part that wasn't gonna be solved, but no worries! The ending was a little odd but I'm betting Delilah did the best thing for everyone concerned. Can't let out too much, you'll just have to grab this when it's available Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by St. Martin Paperbacks via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

Mindy Quigley, who has won several awards for her short stories, including the 2013 Bloody Scotland award and the 2018 Lightbringer award. "Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust" is her newest release. Delilah O'Leary, the owner of a pizza place in the beautiful Wisconsin resort town of Geneva Bay, is now single and determined to keep her business going through the off-season. Unfortunately, due to Delilah's well-intended but naive decision to turn down her ex-husband's offer of financial support to see the restaurant through its first year, there needs to be more money. She plans to successfully navigate the first year of her new business with hard work and a top-notch staff. She set her sights on taking home the $10,000 cash prize in the community's yearly "Taste of Wisconsin" cooking competition to increase her bottom line. She opened the oven door to remove a test pizza, releasing a delicious aroma, including an unexpected burst of bold and smoky scent emanating from the custom sausage mix she was testing for her planned entrance in the village contest. Her cooking brought out all the many flavors. But she still hadn’t found exactly the right balance of flavors.
However, money isn't her biggest problem. Now, adversity steps in and increases Delilah's challenges. Until recently, it had been three years since there’d been a murder in Geneva Bay. There were plenty of lesser crimes. But Geneva Bay hadn't had a murder in three years. Ronnie Wong, the owner of the neighborhood smoothie shop, was poisoned to death in front of Delilah, and a well-known Chicago chef was killed. Something’s going on with that.
Delilah's not alone in her struggle. Some of her friends and family were pulled into the investigation through no fault of their own. She had met the dashing police detective Calvin Capone a few months earlier. Capone, the great-grandson of the infamous Chicago gangster, helped her at first but gradually began to tire of her interference in his investigation, even suggesting she was not off the suspect list.
Her independent, gravitationally challenged cat, Butterball, is in her corner. Butterball was a supporting character because he helped investigate the most critical case in the area at the time.
Her great-aunt, the cantankerous octogenarian Elizabeth "Biz" O'Leary, was known to most residents from her years spent teaching accounting and personal finance at the high school. Biz is my favorite character. Full of old-time wisdom and loyalty, she took care of her own problems.
This novel has what I value in an easy-reading book. The setting was detailed, the characters were fleshed out, and there were twists and red herrings. The author met my expectations with humor and wit. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I highly recommend "Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust" to fans of cozy cuisine murder mysteries who will especially value the full recipes for the popular items sold at Delilah's pizzeria. This novel is an excellent place to start if you have yet to try a cozy mystery.

In this second book of the series, Delilah O’Leary, gourmet pizza shop owner, is working on a new recipe for the town’s annual Taste of Wisconsin contest. She’s sidetracked with two murders, Aunt Bizzy acting strangely, Sam’s new girlfriend and poor Butterball who isn’t adjusting to spending time at both her and Sam’s house.

This book may be even better than the first and the first one was amazing. The cast of characters are written so well. The mystery is never cut and dry and makes you keep guessing. I’m really enjoying this series and can’t wait for the next book.

Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust is a sequel to Six Feet Deep Dish, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This book follows the vibrant cast of characters with judicious servings of pizza, Butterball (the cat), Sam (the ex-fiance), Biz (the cantankerous ant), and of yes, murder. Ms. Quigley even manages to wrap in Chicago mob references. The plot takes twists and turns through ad infinitum prep for the annual Labor Day Taste of Wisconsin festival along with the occasional murder. Once again, you won't want to put this book down. And when you do, you'll be anxiously awaiting the next installment in the Deep Dish Mystery series.

Ashes to Ashes, Crust to Crust is the 2nd wonderful book in the Deep Dish mystery series. The characters are likable and the mystery kept me guessing especially because there were a few things going on. Delilah owns a deep dish pizza restaurant and lives in the apartment upstairs. Her Aunt Biz helps out along with her BFF Sonya, Melody and Daniel. They are competing in a local food tasting event. .A celebrity is going to be the Taste Tester for the event which is bad news because he has a history with Delilah and Sonya. Delilah's ex-fiancee Sam is now dating Jordan who is a competitor in the contest. Delilah likes Detective Capone but he is usually busy with his cases and she is usually involved which makes it awkward. Someone dies at Jordan's Juice Bar. A visitor is seen around town and he seems like he knows something about the murder. Delilah and Sam's cat Butterball isn't happy and Aunt Biz is keeping a secret. It all keeps Delilah very busy! I like Delilah, Sam and Capone but the other characters are not as interesting or relatable. This book has a good pace and enough going on to keep it interesting. This is a very enjoyable cozy mystery. I received an advance copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily. #AshesToAshesCrustToCrust #NetGalley

Delilah is focused on trying to keep her business running through the upcoming winter off season. So she’s determined to win the cookout at the upcoming town festival to help shore up the coffers. No stress. Then she finds that ex fiancé Sam has moved on and is dating another woman. A bit of a blow, but it was to be expected. Add in that Aunt Biz is acting odder than usual and the stress is actually starting to set in.

When A customer drops dead in front of her at the local smoothie shop, then a famous chef from Chicago is murdered, Delilah finds herself trying to find out who is behind it all. Hopefully Delilah can figure out what’s just out of reach in her mind to help Capone solve the case. Unless she attracts the attention of the murder first. Then there’s no need to save her business at all.

Another solid entry in this series and it’s another good one! I really enjoy the mention of historical figures that had spent time in the area and how they are linked to the present. I have tp say Butterball is a favorite…the poor guy being put on a diet. Best of all, in this one, we get some answers on the building Delilah and Son is located in…finally! That was a fun little mystery in and of itself. A great series to add to your reading list…and don’t forget the recipes that are included…it keeps the deliciousness coming long after you finish the book.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend. I haven't read the first book in the series (but it's moved up to the top of my TBR) and had no difficulties. I'm from Wisconsin and very familiar with Lake Geneva which serves as the setting for this mystery-even though it's called Geneva Bay here.

Delilah and her partner Sonya have opened a pizza restaurant and have done well but with summer winding down are headed into the lean period when tourism dies down. Geneva Bay is holding a Taste of Wisconsin cook off on Labor Day weekend and the $10,000 prize is just what they need to help tide them over and provide additional publicity.

They are in for a big surprise when they discover the celebrity judge is someone from their past-a vindictive man who ran Sonya out of Chicago when he discovered she was having an affair with his wife.

But before that can happen, a tourist dies at the new Healthy drink store that is owned by Delilah's ex-fiancee's new girlfriend. How and why his smoothie is poisoned is a mystery and does it have anything to do with the new found wealth of one of the smoothie bar's workers. Then, another poisoning happens and the another person is found murdered.

Are the poisoning and murders related? Lots of twists and turns!

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley but that did not influence my review and the opinion expressed is my own.

This second book in Mindy Quigley’s Deep Dish Mystery is such a palate cleanser after drowning in another genre! The story continues to follow head chef, Delilah O’Leary and her friend Sonya as they continue to run their restaurant “Delilah & Son”. Things have changed a bit since book one, but the one constant is Delilah’s need for perfection which sometimes drives her friends and family crazy. Even more so, her nosey, but helpful pseudo-detective skill sometimes pushes the handsome Det. Calvin Capone to warn her from cases. True to form, another murder pops up when Delilah is on the scene. This time it happens at the newly opened juice bar owned by her ex-boyfriend Sam’s new girlfriend.
It was a delight to follow Delilah again on this adventure wrought with amateur sleuths. On the journey with her is her fierce aunt Biz, her staff, friends, and her equally stubborn but lovable cat, Butterball. Of course, a major part of this book is the delicious recipes that Delilah and her friends come out with, which are printed at the end of the book for readers to try.
I recommend the fun and adventurous murder mystery filled with friendship, hijinks, and sprinkles of romance throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this Arc.
