A lovely little story and a quick hit of festive joy! Filled with magic, Christmas spirit and happiness.
It was a wonderful little tale, with a young boy determined to save his families struggling bookshop and takes it upon himself to try and attract more people to the store and entice them to stop by. With the threat of having to close in the new year, perhaps a little help from a friendly Christmas reindeer could be just what’s needed…
It was a heartwarming story and a great read for young kids. I had the audiobook which was great but I can imagine the physical copy with what looks like, absolutely gorgeous illustrations would be worthwhile! A beauty on the shelf I can imagine!

A few beautiful moments within this picture book for me. Firstly, I love the name of the family bookshop - Words of Wonder. Just beautiful, and then a little snippet of what books mean for this author/family reminding us of the pleasure, escapism, usefulness that books can offer. A lovely opportunity to chat about what books you enjoy and words you might choose to describe your favourite book, or name a book shop.
The story reflects the struggles of lots of bookshops, the decline in footfall and how to increase it. Williams idea of the Christmas window display is great and I love that he creates it himself from collecting things in nature, and from a craft box. Again, another lovely chatting point.
And then the magical moment we all dream at Christmas, that bit of adventure offering a touch of what the community could do together. But, sadly I think this is missed in the book. But I do like the shiniest words idea, great for developing vocabulary for younger children.
Overall it’s a lovely book and I would give it 3.5*’s. A little missed bit about community coming together with the lights, more titles/themes visible in the otherwise beautiful and detailed illustrations and larger font for the text please.

Rezension zu der Zauber der Worte von Helen Mortimer & Rachael Dean
In dem Kinderbuch Zauber der Worte von Helen Mortimer & Rachael Dean geht es um William, der mit seinen Eltern über dem Buchladen der Familie wohnt.
Die Buchhandlung Wortewunderland muss bald schließen, weil nicht mehr so viele Kunden in den Laden kommen, um etwas zu kaufen. Um mehr Kunden anzulocken, bastelt William ein Rentier für das Schaufenster.
In der nächsten Nacht erwacht das Rentier, das William gebaut hat, zum Leben.
Es nimmt William mit auf einen Flug über die Stadt.
Hoch in der Luft rufen sie schöne Worte und schaffen so ein Weihnachtswunder...
Persönliche Meinung:
Ich habe schon lange kein so gutes Kinderbuch mehr gelesen, in dem mit einfachen Worten das Wunder von Weihnachten erklärt wird. Die Seiten sind sehr schön gestaltet und illustriert.
Ich fand die Geschichte spannend geschrieben, nicht zu kurz aber auch nicht zu lang.
Ein gutes Vorlesebuch für die KITA Gruppe, ich würde es für Kinder ab drei Jahren empfehlen.
Fazit
Ein tolles Weihnachtsbuch, das ich jedem empfehlen kann, der noch auf der Suche nach einer einfachen, liebevoll gestalteten Geschichte ist.
Das Buch bekommt von mir fünf Sterne.

Charming, and well-done, if feeling to an adult to be short a little logic, this has a boy try to save his parents' small bookshop. He starts with the window display – but that's all the plot I dare divulge. As I say it's quite winning, but you are left with questions about why the lights needed to be spread across the town, and quite why the lad's ideas worked so well. I know, I know, it's magic – but again, this wasn't quite the most logical application of it. Three and a half stars.

Although the narrative feels like it misses a few steps Mortimer delivers a charming story, beautifully illustrated by Dean (the bookshop scenes in particular are most enchanting); worthy of a regular place in most young children's yuletide reads.

Rezension zu „Der Zauber der Worte“ von Helen Mortimer und Rachael Dean, Übersetzung von Nina George.
Wie schön kann ein Buch bitte sein? Sowohl inhaltlich, als auch von den Bildern. „Der Zauber der Worte“ hat sich ganz tief in mein Herz gebrannt. Es ist eine schöne, niedliche Geschichte. Sie spielt um Weihnachten und hält einige Überraschungen bereit.
Die Illustrationen sind unfassbar gut und liebevoll gestaltet.
Von mir gibt’s sowohl für klein als auch groß eine dicke Leseempfehlung.

Der sechsjährige William lebt mit seinen Eltern und Familienhund Racker in der winzigen Wohnung über ihrer Buchhandlung, dem Wortewunderland. William liebt den kleinen Laden mit seinen deckenhohen Regalen voller Büchern und dem gemütlichen Lesesofa über alles, für ihn ist es der schönste Buchladen der Welt. Als William kurz vor Weihnachten mitbekommt, dass seine Eltern sein geliebtes Wortewunderland sehr wahrscheinlich bald schließen müssen, weil immer weniger Kund*innen zu ihnen kommen, ist er entsetzt. Das kann er auf gar keinen Fall zulassen! Um mehr Leute anzulocken und das Geschäft zu retten, bastelt er ein großes Rentier mit einem bunt bemalten Weihnachtsschlitten und macht damit das Schaufenster zu einem funkel-glitzer-strahlenden Winterwunderfenster. In der darauffolgenden Nacht passiert etwas ganz Unglaubliches: Das Rentier erwacht zum Leben und nimmt William in seinem Schlitten auf einen Flug durch die Nacht mit. Zusammen sausen sie unter den Sternen und über die Stadt dahin und rufen dabei die allerleuchtendsten Worte, damit die Menschen in Festtagsstimmung kommen, und bewirken damit ein magisches Weihnachtswunder.
Bei diesem Schätzchen war es bei mir nicht nur Coverliebe auf den ersten Blick, auch von dem, was zwischen den Buchdeckeln schlummert, war ich sofort ganz verzückt.
„Der Zauber der Worte“ ist ein wundervolles und herzerwärmendes Abenteuer voller Weihnachtszauber, Bücherliebe und Magie. Eine traumhaft illustrierte Geschichte für Kinder ab 4 Jahren, die einen trotz ernster Themen wie Existenzängste und Geldsorgen in eine winterlich-weihnachtliche Stimmung versetzt und sich perfekt zum kuscheligen Vorlesen in der Adventszeit eignet. Man fühlt sich einfach direkt wohl beim Lesen und würde es sich am liebsten selbst mal auf dem Lesesofa im urigen Wortewunderland gemütlich machen, ausgiebig in Büchern schmökern und dabei leckeren Lebkuchen knabbern.
Auch die Charaktere werden liebevoll beschrieben, allen voran der kleine buchverrückte William. Er ist ein total süßer, aufgeweckter und sympathischer Junge, den man sofort ins Herz schließt und nur zu gerne begleitet.
Die farbenfrohen Illustrationen von Rachael Dean untermalen Helen Mortimers Text gekonnt. Ihre stimmungsvollen und detailverliebten Bilder verströmen eine wohlig-warme, heimelige Weihnachtsatmosphäre und laden zum Verweilen und Bestaunen ein.
Fazit: „Der Zauber der Worte“ ist eine warmherzige, fantasievolle und magische Weihnachtsgeschichte, die an die wahren Werte von Weihnachten erinnert und zeigt, was für herrliche Orte kleine Buchläden sind. Ein zauberhafter Bilderbuchschatz mit wunderschönen Illustrationen. Für alle, die Bücher und Buchhandlungen lieben und an Weihnachtswunder glauben.
