I enjoyed this book. While it told the story of a small unit and the events that were at the center of historic events in OIF 1, I also enjoyed learning about the force design and employment aspects for how a Brigade Recon Troop enabled Brigade and Battalion level operations and special missions. Additionally, the chapters on redeployment and recovery are helpful for civilian readers to understand what units went through after a combat deployment and also helpful to Veterans to read how others units and soldiers coped with challenges and emotions. The chapter on trying to replicate the ‘secret sauce’ and lessons learned from each chapter are informative for leaders at all echelons and can be applied to work on future concepts.

This book was not within my normal realm of reading, but knowing one involved in this story and unit I had to read it. What a great story of bravery, loss and brotherhood.

A must read for any Leader.

I served under this man and it was an absolute honor. This book gives a glimpse in the chaotic world of being a combat Leader.
