Krokus 4. The system’s nexus of intelligent life. Who are the Krokans? Who are the Orau? Are there any good guys to protect? It’s a dog’s breakfast from the word go. Reynolds is positioned to keep the sides from killing each other while he and the crew try to figure out what is going on. With a healthy dose of skepticism, they dig deep trying to find the truth. Underwater. In the vacuum of space. On another planet. Clues and answers can be found by only the most diligent. All while fighting for their lives. It’s business as usual for the superdreadnought and his crew.
Unlike the first two books this started on stronger footing. Character development more solid but around the halfway point, when the major action started, plot and story got a little shaky. Not bad, but just not as engaging for me. I like the concept of this team going to new planets but finding little interest in the interactions with the “natives”.
This book is better than the last, and that wasn't to be sneezed at!
I have to be honest, but I wasn't quite sure about book one. I'd enjoyed it, but it didn't hold me as much as I thought it would.
Then I read book two and, suddenly, the characters became real to me, especially Reynolds, the AI who WAS the Superdreadnought.
And now we reach book three, and it's as though I've known Reynolds and his crew for years!
There was lots of action, plenty of derring-do, and a touch of mystery involved - plus the rescue of a whole planet of people, who had been enslaved, and needed rescuing - so what is an AI, trained in the ways of Bethany Anne to do, except grab his crew, and do their best to free the slaves, solve the mystery, and depose the ruler of the planet they we're visiting!
Poor Reynolds isn't getting as far as he'd like, in his search for the clan of seven Kurtherian, but he knows that freeing people from slavery, and rescuing children from harm, would always be the top priority to his Queen - and who was he to gainsay her!
It always saddens me to reach the end of a book that I'm enjoying, and this was no different - but I'm happy to know that this isn't the end of the story, and there are more books in the series for me to read!
So, as usual, I look at my reading list, to see what's next, and I see that I'm to read book eight of the Ascension Myths: Bourne!
This, once again, makes me so happy, and I know that I'll enjoy this, as much as I have all the previous books of the series - and I see that, after this, I'm back here, with the Superdreadnought, Reynolds, again - what fun! Lol
The Superdreadnought of the title is a starship, captained by S.D Reynolds, an AI, who with his crew is acting for the Federation in seeking out Kurtherians throughout the Universe, in C.H Gideon's excellent third book of the series.
Their mission is to act as a kind of referee between the warring factions of the Krokans and the Orau. As the book develops this leads to Reynolds and his crew - Asya his First Officer, Tactical - aka Takal an engineer Ria a pilot and navigator Jiya. They end up traveling underwater, in deepest space and on more than one planet in an attempt to liaise with leaders of planets they visit in order to further their mission; the multiple POV narrative gives a sense of the scale of the task and the issues that will have to be overcome to ensure a lasting peace.
What secret is President Jaen Pon hiding? What does he promise Reynolds and the crew? What will they have to do in return? How does General Maddox play his part on Krokus 4? Who are the people living there? What is the connection with the acolytes and Ter Vil?
With intrigue, lies and betrayals countered with mystery, loyalty and teamwork C.H Gideon has found a totally engaging set of characters whose story continues to infinity and beyond - in this case to a watery citadel fighting for survival against their alien invaders and masters. A definite winner of an addition to the Superdreadnought series, of which this is book 3...more please C.H!
Without the Prime Directive rule Kirk could have been Intergalactic Superman and Corrector of Injustice. - with a crew of armed soldiers! Here we have an artificial intelligence (Superman) looking for ultimate justice for an undefined wrong while correcting planetary injustice with force ace the a d the crew follow interplanetary leads across the universe. The best part is that they can solve these planetary problems within a few days or weeks. Most often by military force. I guess sometimes the way to get everyone to agree with is to get rid of them ones who don't! Still, it's a novel concept and I've always said one must have a lot of literary flexibility to read SciFi. So, enjoy the adventure as the AI and crew of the Superdreadnaught make the universe a better place.
Programs, programs get your programs here. You can't tell the players without a program. Jumping into a system and into a battle, who is the enemy? Who do you shoot at? The characters develop further as they grow into their roles. I like the action and humor. Will Reynolds finely terminate the cruiser that has been tailing them. I look forward to the next book.
The good guys of Superdreadnought Reynolds, green and untrained as they are, charge ahead to take out the bad guys on a new planet. The problem is: who are the bad guys? After dropping into a battle with no scorecard, it only gets tougher to sort them out. This series has plenty of action and good character development to go with its multiple personality disorder commander. I think you're going to like it.
If you haven't started this series yet you really need to do so. Well written with excellent characters that continue to evolve and grow. Reynolds is more " human" in his growth as an A.I., making him easy to root for. The crew is also growing together, giving you reasons to cheer for their successes and disappointment in their setbacks. Overall an excellent book and series a a whole.
The first two books were done within a few days just finished this one enjoyable and the stories are well put enough together they could stand on their own but are tight enough to each other that you want to read them all. Character development is on point and you know what to expect from the characters as the books go into each adventure thank you again Craig Martelle,. And I shouldn't forget to thank CH Gideon as well
I really like this series I enjoy space offers for what I like about this one is it's not just space fights or starships it's the interpersonal relationships between the crew and the planets that they visit as they try to enhance the living conditions and the socioeconomic realities of the people they meet it gives me hope for ourselves knowing that the Lord will take care of us all
Reynolds and his crew continue their journey to rout out the Kurtherians, and end up in the middle of another war (not a surprise!). We see the characters growing and maturing, making new friends, getting to the bottom of evil plots, and taking out the garbage.
In other words, just as awesome as the first books, and I can’t wait for the next one!

I'm really enjoying this series very much. The cast of characters are fun to get to know and their sense of humanity and loyalty is admirable. I like the fact that there are lots of strong female characters portrayed in the story and that there is a great sense of family with the members of the crew. Great work.
I am not of a scifi-opera fan so I started listening to this series and a little worry. But the story pulled me in and the movie references kill me from tactical. The John-Cab lol. But the story kept evolving in each book with new characters coming in all the time. The SD Reynolds was and steam rolling death machine that issues made the stories all that more enjoyable.
CH and Craig have created such a superb set of characters that it's easy to fall in love with all of them. Their growth as they meld into a cohesive unit is fascinating. The adventures they go through just brings them closer to being who they were always meant to be. Enjoy!
The same but different but still a dam good read. If you have read the previous books then you can work the general story but tweaked. Still you want to read to find what they get up to and how oooppss started to give the story away, but buy, download, borrow, or even steal of your partner whatever you do just get it and read you won't be disappointed.
I am really enjoying this series and how it is developing, the only thing I would like to see is the key characters being enhanced in the pod doc. They have proven themselves in several events and it is time!! Before someone dies, please!
Continue the series please. I have enjoyed the first three books and anxiously awaiting for the fourth. Light humor mixed with a good plot and a little action, hits the spot.
These books are great. They have lots of action and humor in them and I love all of the characters. The crew is meshing together very well and learning as they go. I am very much looking forward to the next in the series.
The Reynolds jumps into a battle between 2 new species and they are pushed to the max to hold their own. Great interaction between the crew and Reynolds AI keeps it fun and a great paced story. I await the next story with anticipation.
The stories keep getting better, even the swearing and cursing gets cranked up . Pity more sci -fi tales don't think about using it , makes a more interesting and lively story stand out
Reynolds and crew come through again on the side of right and trailing the enemy's of our favorite emperess. Well worth the time spent reading this book, looking forward to the next one in the series.
How the he'll are they ever going to find their enemy of they keep jumping into other people's wars. But that's what they get again. Helping the people of one world only to find out they are the same skunks, they're being rescued from.
I really liked this one, crazy underwater city, space battles, and Reynolds getting shot in the chest. Good times. Still lots of unanswered questions I hope more is revealed soon as there's only two more books left.
The series started out pretty good and keeps getting better. A bit different concept that I think will sparks some similar work. Keep up the good work!
I really like this series. It's entertaining , full of amazing action , characters ,and a little humor. Definitely awaiting the next book. Thanks for a fun read .
