CAMPUS GOOD GIRL features a curvy good girl who isn't used to being noticed and the basketball player whose obsession for her has never faded. A short & steamy romance for those who've wondered What if...?
TROPES INCLUDED: Instalove, Good Girl/Bad Boy, Forced Proximity, Pining Hero, Secret Crush, & Curvy Heroine
Hallie prefers steamy, insta-love stories where the curvy girl finds love with a filthy-talking hero. And when she ran out of reading material, she decided to write her own stories. If you want a quick, hot read, she's your girl!
This is a sweet second-chance novella. Logan, a basketball playing jock, had a secret crush on Emily, the sweet nerd, all senior year in college. And now it’s their ten-year reunion, and he’s not going to let her slip away again! It’s super cute and sweet, and I do wish that it had been a bit longer. The author introduces some intriguing obstacles (ex. Emily’s family and money troubles), but it’s just wiped away far too easily, which I guess makes sense because the book is so short! Definitely check this book if you’re looking for a sweet, short read. It’s a great pick-me-up! :)
Campus Good Girl by Hallie Bennett is a short story about Emily, the quiet girl of campus, who is plagued with family issues that keep her awake at night. Landon is the popular basketball player who has a crush on the quiet Curvy girl much to amusement of his friends. Fast forward 10 years when they meet again at the Collage reunion, does he still feel the same?
I have to start by saying that this book just wasn't for me. I know it was a short story but everything about the plot just seemed over rushed, not one part of it was ever actually explored in any depth so even Emily and Landons relationship was purely surface level stuff. There was nothing memorable about this book and it seems that as soon as you read the last page you forget everything that happened in it.
Emily, as a character, wasn't too bad though she is a little bland, very naive and could do with growing a backbone. As it's a short story you don't go too deep into their lives which wasn't a problem, what I did have an issue with was Landon himself. I did not like his character at all, he's very possessive and domineering with Emily despite having only spoken to her twice in 10 years.
Their whole "relationship' didn't sit well with me either. They jump straight into a sexual insta love relationship all over the course of one day because Landon "claimed her" and apparently that's all it takes in this book to know someone has genuine feelings for you. There's nothing cute or romantic in this story, no taking about feelings or anything it's just Landon making desisions and crude sexual remarks and Emily excepting everything thinking it means love. He is definitely on the boarder line of being controlling which I didn't like and not something to base a relationship on.
I can't honestly think of anything positive to say about this book, it isn't anywhere near as good as the plot makes it sound so I don't recommend reading it.
This is a quick read. I listened to the audible in about an hour on 2x.
Landon and Emily met in college, had one interaction, then continued on with their lives. Landon held a crush on her for 10 years after graduating. When they end up face to face at their reunion, Landon decides it's time to come clean and tell Emily how much he has wanted her over the years. She's the one that got away.
Emily has some family drama that is discussed briefly, but you get the idea of what is going on. She finds it hard to believe Landon could be interested in here. But he is on a mission to prove to her that he's ready to commit.
Overall, it was a decent read. It is written to be a quick paced steamy read, and the author did just that. There is not a whole lot of depth to the story, no real connections with the characters formed. But it's enjoyable and spicy.
The audible irritated me because the narrators kept using the wrong tense of words for the sentences and said pronounced "come" like it rhymed with tomb. It's hard to stay in the story when the words don't match the scene. At one point the author mentioned the word read. It should have been pronounced read in past tense, but they she said "reed." It was just odd.
For the story 3.5 stars. Spice 3.5. Audible experience 3.
A sweet story of a long-time coming romance. The H was having regret for not pursuing h way back when they were in college. Met again during the reunion, he felt that this was his last shot at getting the One. Unbeknownst, to him, our h was down her luck. Maybe this time with love coming her way, she could be an optimist again.
I always liked a long-time-crush-came-true kinda story. It was uplifting and gave an overall positive vibe for all hopeless romantics in the world; especially when the one who did the crushing was the jock and the popular guy. The h was your typical unassuming nerdy girl who never realized that she was special. She was sweet and tough, but even the toughest one need a shoulder to cry on. See, this story had a good premise already. It was an uplifting kinda story with a sprinkle of instalove. Though I had to say it's kinda short. I kinda wanna know the dynamic between MCs after the reunion. There's an epilogue, but it's not enough for me.
Virgin h Dual PoV, 1st person No drama/angst No cheating, No OW/OM Separation after graduation No kinks Safe read, HEA, epilogue Overall score: 4 reunited stars.
It was okay. He harbored a crush on the shy good girl. His nerves got the better of him and he let her go for 10 years. She never expected the popular basketball player to like her. So, 10 years later when he finally gets the courage to tell her, she doesn't know how to react.
Spicy and short. I got this as a free audio book and the narration was good. I liked how the listener was treated to both male and female voices when the point of view changed. It’s a cute story about a missed opportunity and a reconnection. Short easy lighthearted read.
Although a short one, the author did try to have a better balance between plot to spice by adding in the family drama. The audiobook narration was done as duet but it was monotone so I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
I’m a new reader to Hallie Bennett and I’ve fallen in love with these characters. Landon Greer is everything I wanted in college. Emily is who I was in college. I didn’t have an HEA, but these two are life goals!
Very Short, sweet and to the point. After reading this I find myself not to be too much of a college reunion reader. Wished it was a bit more fleshed out, but I understand why it wasn't (just novella things). I wanted more from Landon, he was too one dimensional for my taste.
