The exhilaration of being wanted all the time, the safe danger, and even the fights can be intoxicating. But the fun fades when romance twists into possessiveness and jealousy. Trusting your fear and cutting your losses is the hard part.
If the man you loved was dangerous, could you leave him?
Brooke Dell is the oldest of three sisters and she knows all about dating a controlling man. She wants nothing more than to put it behind her, but when her younger sister starts having an affair, her past is brought to light. Will she be able to close that door forever or has this old wound cut too deep?
From Ashes features some strong language and sex scenes as well as scenes involving possessive and threatening behavior and miscarriage that can be upsetting or triggering to some.
For the record, I received a copy of this book in exchage for an honest review. Having just read the first in the series, Like Crazy, it was evident how much the author's writing improved from the first to the second book. I really wanted to give this 5 stars, but it was the editing that held me back. I felt like were several times the wrong name was written and I would go back and re-read to make sure I didn't miss anything. So 4.5 stars it is! There are so many things I loved about this book. The first being Jake. He has officially moved towards the top of my Book Boyfriend List. Personally, Brooke was much more relatable and likable than Allie was. We obviously know a bit about their relationship from the first book, but not their history, so I really enjoyed that aspect. From Ashes is one of those books that every woman needs to read. There is some serious life lessons to be learned about regarding unhealthy relationships: recognizing the signs and knowing when to walk away. Read this. You won't be disappointed.
Loved Brooke's story and the parallels to Allie's. You never do forget your first love no matter how unhealthy it was. This book illustrated those feelings and worries for her sister. Makes me wish I had sisters!
Excellent sequel. I enjoyed the plot and "lesson" of this story. There was a particular point where the main character Brooke, realizes what she needs to do that resonated with me and hopefully other women will read and understand when it's time to walk away from something... you actually need to fricken run! It was a heartwarming tale of the love of family, sisters and finding the right person to be with.
