If you had a second chance with your childhood crush, would you throw caution to the wind and try again...or take a step back and forget about your brother's best friend?

Ari: When your good friend asks you to be the ambassador for her new food truck, what do you do? You say yes! At least that's what I did--and then I found out my co-worker is my high school crush who is also my older brother's best friend. Never mind the kiss we shared years ago...we're in an enclosed space and there's nowhere to go.

Carter: Moving back to Lake Lorelei, I hoped Ari was still around. I've known her forever as my best friend's little sister, but she's always intrigued me. I even had a crush on her in high school and we kissed once, but we were young and her brother didn't want me anywhere near her. Now, we're in a food truck together and it's just like old times...

The Sweet Spot is a friend to lovers, brother's best friend rom com set in the fictional town of Lake Lorelei. This closed door romantic comedy has plenty of chemistry and swoony kisses and will have you laughing out loud. Fall in love with the residents of Lake Lorelei today.

The Sweet Spot is a second chance, brother's bestfriend novella.
I was laughing from the first page and loved the story line, the characters and not to mention all the food mentions. I was quite shocked by Ari's brother's reaction to the news but other than that it was a sweet, swoony romance.
Looking forward to reading the other novellas in this series

Once more, Anne Kemp has whipped up a batch of flirty, comedic gold, and Ari and Carter were just *chefs kiss*

This fun little Novella had it all! Sibling jests and backstreet boys throwbacks, the brother’s best friend and a clumsy heroine, a delightful sprinkling of friends turned lovers, a humorous toilet re-meet-cute, and so many delicious treats! The Sweet Spot is hitting all the spots, and I am buzzing for another serving of what Kemp’s cooking up! 😋

The chemistry and the tenderness between Ari and Carter was so sweet to read, and I loved the balance of humor, reflection, and attraction that was worked into every moment leading to that satisfying conclusion. I would happily read more about these two, and it still wouldn’t be enough.

And the laughs! Kemp just gets comedy in a fashion that is natural and humorous without falling flat or disrupting the rest of the story beats, and I love it. Not to mention the dialogue which may just be my favourite thing about Kemp’s writing. I felt as though I sat in the same room eavesdropping on these conversations between friends, their words teasing and possessing a natural rhythm in the way they spoke. Through each word their personalities and relationships shone, and I wanted to be a part of it in this place that feels just like home. I cannot wait to see what other stories Lake Lorelei will bring.

Thank you to the author for an ARC copy of The Sweet Spot, and for the incredible privilege to be part of their Beta team. I am leaving my honest review voluntarily. 4.5⭐️

5 stars.

Release date: May 1, 2022

🍩 Highlights:
- dual POV
- Novella
- Brother’s best friend
- Highschool crush

🍩 summary:
Ari - newspaper journalist and Instagram foodie influencer. Carter- chef, photograher, and part time firefighter. Carter is Ari’s brothers best friend throughout childhood to adulthood and Carter has been warned to not go there with Ari. When Carter and Ari are both assigned to work together for a food truck grand opening, they are forced to (literally) come face-to-face with their feelings for each other and figure out if the timing is finally right.

🍩 My thoughts:
Anne Kemp does it again, folks. When I saw that Anne was releasing a novella called The Sweet Spot- I instantly jumped at the opportunity to receive an ARC. I read her novella “Sweet Summer Nights” last month and LOVED IT. Easy 5 star read- which says a lot because novellas can be so hard to fully lay out characters and a fulfilling story. Well Anne has done it again with The Sweet Spot. Ari and Carter instantly hooked me into their story, and I couldn’t put this book down. The chemistry is there. The backstory is there. The humor is there. I cannot recommend Anne Kemp’s novellas enough. My only complaint is that I always want more because it’s so good. I plan to get my hands on the rest of her backlist because her writing clearly checks all the boxes for me.

🔥 kissing only

Thank you so much, Anne, for providing me with this ARC to read and review. It was a pleasure.

This is my first ARC read of any book/novella and let me just say I was honored to read The Sweet Spot by Anne Kemp.
Fell in love with The Sweet Spot especially with Ari and her banter with her brother Reid. You are gonna fall in love with Carter how he knows all of her tells. There is a scene that broke my heart but love that there is still kindness in this world.

From the sec I started this book I was laughing. It was so good and it had a lot of tropes. Brothers Best friend, second chance romance, one bed, childhood friends to lovers. If you like novellas this one is for you. First book I managed to read in a day. Also can we talk about how cute they are together?🥹 He called her sunshine😩
It might be a novella but the characters were portrayed really well. I’m definitely buying it once it’s out.

Anne Kemp has done it again. Wonderful dialogue and just enough snark to keep you going. From page one, paragraph one, she will have you laughing out loud. I love how believable and realistic all of her characters again. This book is just what it’s title says “The Sweet Spot” of what I like to call cozy, comedic, romance.

this was originally In the limited edition Fall Into Love romantic comedy collection

Reader’s Notes:

– this is told from Ari and Carter’s points of view

– this is a part of Anne Kemp’s Lake Lorelei series, but can be read as a stand-alone

Review:

I love how Anne Kemp started this story off 😂. I’ll just call it the toilet incident to not give too much away 🤫. Ari was so adorable and had so many different things go wrong for her, and in front of Carter no less. But despite all of that (and a looming protective older brother), Ari still got her happily ever after with Carter 😍. I loved that Carter knew her so well with how much time he spent with their family as a kid. Just knowing her taps was adorable, but he knew so much that she didn’t realize. So good!

Ari works at her local newspaper tasting and reviewing different foods and restaurants in the area. Until she gets the news that there will no longer be a newspaper for Lake Lorelei. Though she is upset about it, Ari is relieved to be asked to help with the local diner’s opening of a food truck so soon after getting the news. What she doesn’t know at first is that she’ll be working with her brother’s best friend…and that the opening events will take a couple of days without traveling back home in between.

Carter is happy to be back in Lake Lorelei. He went off to culinary school after graduating, and now he is back in town working part-time as a fireman and the cook for the food truck. He is glad to be back with the people he considers family and the atmosphere of small town life. Carter is also glad to be able to see the girl he once made the mistake of kissing and calling it a mistake. He hurt Ari and hopes to make things right with her, but he also worries about how his best friend will feel about Carter dating his little sister.

Will Ari and Carter be able to catch their second chance at love or will something cause it to fall once again?

Hello!! First I wanna say TYSM to Anne Kemp for providing me an eARC in exchange for an honest review

My rating: 5/5

SOOO, I was so exited once this book was in my hands, I read an ARC for “Sweet summer nights” and loved it! So coming back to this world was such a treat. I love Anne’s writing style, is easy going yet intense and we can’t forget about the laughs her books make me have.
If you want to read a light rom com, READ HER BOOKS <3

Now, let’s talk a little more about the book and CHARACTERS! This take place in Lake Lorelai, lets me tall you beforehand this story has many many tropes that I absolutely LOVE, some of them are brothers best friend, second chance romance, childhood friends to lovers AND ONE BED TROPE?!?! Ugh in love.

CHARACTERS, it follows Ari, our female mc and Carter, our male mc. Ari is a food influencer and a journalist, Carter is a chef, part time firefighter and A PHOTOGRAPHER, he does it all and I’m here for it. Adore them both.

Their banter?! Gosh I love how Anne’s banters are written, I’m a sucker when the characters are (literally) obligated to come face to face. (Yes!, this happens in. The book and I was dying)

Overall a lovely story and can’t wait to get more books following new couples and stories! <3

If you like:
- Brothers best friend
- Second chance romance
- Childhood crush to lovers
- One bed trope
- Romcom
- Banter!
This book is for you!

**I received an ARC of The Sweet Spot and this is my honest review.**

The Sweet Spot is a second chance, brother's best friend, sweet romance novella. Right away I was drawn in as we meet Ari, with her hand stuck in her toilet and on an embarrassing call with the 911 operator (who in a small town of course knows Ari personally). She soon finds out that her brother's best friend (and high school crush) Carter is back in town when he is one of the fireman who shows up to extract her. Hilarity, sweetness, and a roadtrip ensue.

If you want a quick, fluffy, feel-good, low spice read, this is the perfect story. The content level is just a few kisses worth, but the banter and chemistry between the characters is fantastic. There is no huge 3rd act breakup or angst to make you want to swear at any of the characters. Just overall a wonderful, light-hearted romantic read where we get great fleshed out characters and relationships in a tiny bundle for our enjoyment.
The author's style of writing was a little different than I was used to as it sometimes seems like the characters are making off-hand comments to the reader (such as "hey don't judge me.") but I liked the style. It made the characters seem like close friends who were letting me share in their story.

I look forward to reading more from this author and this series.

This book is soooo cute! I absolutely love Anne Kemps work! This is the second book I have read from her.

I had been laughing since I started this book. It is the perfect light hearted read to get u out of a reading slump or a not so wonderful day! I absolutely LOVE the characters from lake Lorelai I hope to get more from them in the future!!

Ari is a newspaper writer on all things food. Things start to crash and burn around her when the editor in chief and owner of the newsroom states he is retiring.

Masiey the Red Bird cafe owner has an idea to open a food truck. That's not her only plan though ;). Masiey has a trick or two up her sleeve to push to people together who just need the right shove to get them goin.

Carter is a temporary fireman who saves the day for the most embrassing time of Aris life. He has traveled and has become a great chef and pastry maker. Being back home and close to her again stirs things up. He gets the opportunity of a LIFE time. Does it take it or follow his heart.

"The Sweet Spot" is an adult romance following Ari and Carter. The book had quite short chapters and is easy to read, as well as the book not being to long.

While getting ready in the moring, Ari accidentally drops her bracelett in her toilet and accidentally gets stuck as she tries to grab it. After having called 911 for help, she would never have imagioned to see her childhood crush, Carter, walking in to recuse her from a toilet, but there he is. Just when she thought her life couldn't get worse, Carter mentions "The sweet spot" project and she realises that she has to spend the next few days with Carter. But she doesn't have a crush on him anymore... Right?

This book was a nice read. I really liked Ari and Carter as characters, and their chemestry and dynamic was really good.

However, even though the characters was really good, I found the story a bit boring and very slow. There wasn't a lot happening except for their relationship, which is nice, but when the story isn't as developed, it kind of takes away from the story.

Regardless, this story is a really fun and nice read. I definately would recommend this to people looking for a new rom-com story.

I thought that Ari the main female lead was funny and quirky which I like in the lead characters and carter the male main lead is heroic but also has a hard upbringing which is why he strives for perfection when he is an adult.

I think the build-up of tension was great and the pacing in the novel was really well done, I also loved that in such a short book this covered so many tropes from the one-bed trope, brother best friend and second chance lovers. I liked that there was an open end to the book for other characters to have their own romantic relations off of this book. This was funny and witty, sometimes cheesy but overall I did very much enjoy this book a lot. I think I would defiantly read more from Anne Kemp in the future as this was such a great pick me up when I was in a reading slump and in a bad place, this story just lifts your mood right up with the fun banter, loving characters and sweet romance.

I hope there is a book for Ari's brother in the future as he seems like a guarded but loving guy and I would love to see that in the future and see how that pans out for him and Dylan.

“It’s true what they say. Love is like a puzzle: you find your other half and it fits. It just takes time for some of us to get there.”

Firstly I want to thank Anne Kemp for sending me the arc of her new amazing novella! I really enjoyed it.

This romantic comedy novella was super cute and fun! It made me laugh a lot. Just from the start I was already smiling.
The characters in this book were developed really well for a novella! They all had a background and were enjoyable to read about.
I also loved the fact this book was mainly set in a food truck! How cool is that?
I highlighted a lot of amazing quotes and cute/funny moments in this novella.
I was happy with the ending as it all worked out and because Ari’s brother is super supportive of their relationship!!
The epilogue was also very cute.

Overall I definitely recommend this novella! It is a great short read. And it has tropes such as: brothers best friend, childhood friends to lovers, one bed trope and second chance. So if you like those tropes there is no doubt you will enjoy this book!

“The Sweet Spot” by Anne Kemp is a great read! This novella is a brothers best friend, second chance, childhood friends to lovers romance, that is defiantly worth the read! This novella is light hearted and will definitely have you laughing. Anne Kemp’s writing is wonderful and allows you to picture everything she has put into writing. This is the second book in the Lake Lorelei Series and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

“The Sweet Spot” follows Ari, who is a journalist for the town newspaper. When Ari gets her hand stuck in the toilet, she gets helped out by firefighters. Only the firefighters that come to her rescue happen to be her brother, who will never let her hear the end of it, and Carter, who was her childhood crush and also happens to be her brothers best friend. When Carter and Ari get put on a job together to help out a friend, they find themselves facing old feelings and reliving memories. Will the timing finally be right for them? Is love in the cards? Find out in “The Sweet Spot”.

This is the first book I've read by Anne Kemp and I was not disappointed. When I first heard about this book and what it entailed, I just knew I needed to read it so I didn't hesitate when asking for an arc of it!! I was laughing from the first page and that didn't stop there was so many funny moments throughout.

Sometimes I feel with novellas I end it feeling I needed more, but I don't feel like that with this one it ended perfectly and I didn't feel like there was anything missing. It was such an enjoyable, fun read and it just flowed so nicely throughout. There were so many tropes that I absolutely love, brothers best friend, second chance romance, friends to lovers, just incredible.

I was lucky enough to read it as an arc so thank you for that. Already I'm looking at other books that I can read by this author and can't wait to get dug in.

This book is out on the 1st of May and I definitely recommend everyone go read this when it comes out!!

The first thing I noticed, reading this novella was the humour and also the diverse references to our modern days. This book has a light tone and was easy to read. Even though, throughout out the book, there still is a lot of reflection about love and life that are quite relatable.

Reading a novella, I always fear the construction of the characters, but also the construction of the story. I was astonished by the quality of construction that novella has. The characters are relatable, they have a backstory that was very interesting to discover. We can easily recognize ourselves in these characters and in these situations. There were also a lot of tropes that I honestly love as the brother's best friend, one bed, second chance and more. So, if you want a cute, fun and light book to read, this one is for you.

Also thank you Ann Kemp for giving me the chance to be your ARC reader.

This book gave all of the small town love I was looking for. The book is split up between Ari & Carter’s perspectives and I just loved how sweet Carter really was. I don’t know if it’s because the town is called Lake Lorelei… but it was giving me Gilmore Girl vibes and I love that show. In this book, all of the stars align perfectly for each situation which isn’t usually my jam but I really appreciated it in this book because of all of the comedic relief thrown in. I learned that this book is part of a series called Love in Lake Lorelei which is just a genius idea, there are more books about people in the town! I hope this becomes a TV show one day with all of these characters in Lake Lorelei!

I was lucky to receive an arc of this sweet novella (after also getting to arc read another of her novellas “Sweet Summer Nights” which I also recommended you check out!) Brothers best friend trope, one bed trope, second chance romance and dual POV?! I’m a sucker for a good romcom and this story had me laughing right from the first chapter, Ari and Carter are absolutely adorable together, and he calls her sunshine?!!🥺 even though it’s a shorter story I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, or trying to fill in any plot holes. I devoured this romcom in a matter of a couple hours, with a smile on my face the entire time, no doubt about it! Anne Kemp’s novellas are easily becoming some of my favorites, and I can’t wait to read more of the people from Lake Lorelei!!!

I want to first say thank you to Anne Kemp for my EARC in exchange for a review. I appreciate this opportunity so much and hope I can do this for you again in the future.

This book was so cute. Ali and Carters banter was everything and kept me so intrigued I read this book in one day. It reminded me of one of those cute ROM-COM movies or shows. (Young and Hungry is hands down one of my favorites and this was comparable in book form.) I mean come on who doesn't love a good love story with some sweet treats thrown in. The tropes in this story were to die for.
Second Chance
One that got away
Brothers Best Friend
ONE BED
Dual POVs

This story was so beautifully written, my only complaint is it left me craving more (and some doughnuts haha)

This was such a sweet read!
This was a short read, but it was so well done. I loved the characters, and the romance, and the sweet treats that made me want donuts! I’m a sucker for a good romance!
My only complaint would be that it was too short, and I just wanted more. It was a sweet read, that was straight to the point, but I personally would have loved to have seen more of a build up to the romance.
This is my first book from Anne Kemp, and I’m so glad I came across her. I can’t wait to see what else she’s written!

I've come to find that Anne Kemp is one of my favourite short story authors! I love her novellas and I'm definitely invested in her characters!

This was quite a cheesy short story but I loved it! I needed something to help get me out of my funk and this was such an easy read that I was able to do that!

Ari and Carter were so funny to read about and you know when a book starts with the female leads hand stuck in the toilet that it's going ti have you laughing for the rest of the book and that it did!

Honestly I'm just invested now in all the characters storylines and I can't wait to read more of them!!!

Thank you to Anne Kemp because I was lucky enough to be beta reader for this book.

Brothers best friend, firefighter, donuts! Umm yes! I absolutely loved this! Ari was so relatable in many ways. Carter was the perfect male main character. Their banter back and forth made me laugh out loud.

I loved that we got to see some of the characters from Sweet Summer Nights. There were parts where I felt like I was sitting there with the characters listening to their conversation.

And the cover! Have you seen it?! I absolutely love it! I definitely recommend this to everyone!

Okay… let me start off by saying this book was SO CUTE! Not to mention it really made me want a doughnut. 🍩This is the first Anne Kemp book that I have read, and it will not be my last! The tropes in this book were fire 🔥 best friend’s sister, second chance love, high school crush😍 I think I was smiling the entire time I was reading this novella. Not only that, but I’m a sucker for a dual POV. Ms. Kemp thank you so much for allowing me to be an ARC reader, this was a chef’s kiss experience for sure! It releases May 1st, run to get this one!
